Julio was amazing, I was pleased that he was so knowledgeable about Neuromuscular Therapy & Advanced Deep Tissue Massage. After running my marathon I was so pleased to be able to find someone who was able to work out my tight muscles. The best massage I've ever had, without a doubt. I would recommend this place to anyone. Other reviewers have pointed out that it's not really a high-end spa. That's true. However, it is very clean, professional and relaxing. I just briefly explained what was bothering me and John did the rest. He knew my bad sleeping habits without asking. My wife and I had a couples massage. She said the same thing about her experience - incredible. He warned me that I would be sore for a few days. I was, but it was that 'good' kind of sore. The last two nights of sleep have been so much better. The first night I slept about 11 straight hours. I never sleep longer than 3-4 hours without waking up. Last night I slept about 6 hours and woke up feeling 10 years younger. I will definitely be back to Wat. read more

I had just finished a hockey tournament and felt pretty beat up and sore so was looking forward to a deep tissue massage. With help from Yelp to find a well regarded local purveyor, my wife and I visited Wat Massage in Adams Morgan. First, I have to say Wat's strongly positive reputation on Yelp is well deserved. Second (and most importantly), my masseuse Mike had an IRON grip that didn't wane over the course of 90 minutes - incredible, and just what I needed! Lastly, the atmosphere in this three story 100 year old townhouse was impeccable - quiet, clean, relaxing, softly lit and nicely appointed, and the individual treatment rooms were comfortably large with high ceilings, individual sound systems and very comfortable beds. I know I risk revealing a gem that might make future appointments tougher to schedule, but this business deserves the praise. I plan to go back (and will call further ahead now!). Enjoy! read more

Ashiatsu massage from August (masseuse) was incredible! This was my first experience with Ashiatsu, August or Wat Massage. I have, however, received many professional deep tissue massages. NOTE 1: Ashiatsu is a massage style applied using the massage technicians' feet. NOTE 2: I am 5'7, about 125lb, athletic but more on the bony side. I do not mind feet. Some reflections on my experience: 1. her feet felt like soft hands only bigger. holding on to bars from the ceiling, she was able to apply broad and fluid, deep strokes that felt especially incredible on my gluts, hamstrings and calf muscles. 2. it's feels so much better than how it looks in the movies/on tv. August did a great job easing me into the experience, starting with her hands and after a few minutes, switching to an elevated chair positioned beyond my head, where she sat and used her heels on my shoulders and mid/upper back. Then, she transitioned to standing on the table where she, to my knowledge, just used one foot on my body at a time. August is larger than me, so this is probably a great way to apply an appropriate amount of pressure on my body type. 3. It was very relaxing. It was fluid and soft, as I mentioned. Honestly, I left feeling better than any other massage I've received. Usually, I walk away feeling a bit off (combo of pain or just having a certain part of my body worked on for a long time) but this time I just felt a bit looser. It was great. Highly recommend ashiatsu at Wat Massage, and specifically, encourage you to pay August a visit! read more

I flew all the way from TX to see Aaron. Thanks for another great session! (I was on business but flew in early enough to get to Wat Massage ASAP) I first found Wat 6 months ago and vowed if I was in DC again I would be back. The second time did not disappoint either. Although he is far from where I live, Aaron is my favorite therapist. I saw him for trigger point / myofascial release therapy, and it is obvious that he takes pride in his work. Aaron took time to educate me, and explained what I could do to minimize the pain I was having. Further, Aaron solicited my feedback throughout the session, applying only the pressure that was needed for a particular area. This makes for a very productive session. I never once worried about the torture of too much pressure on my worst problem areas. Aaron is very intelligent which makes for a great conversation, and he has a great sense of humor so my hour at Wat went by way too fast. I wish I could go to Wat every week. Wat has a quiet and relaxing atmosphere, is clean, and the online booking process works flawlessly. About a week ago I had my first massage at Wat Massage. Immediately upon my entrance I was greeted with uplifting aroma therapy and attentive staff at the front desk. Shortly after my therapist met me in the lobby and showed me to the beautiful treatment room and right away I started to feel more at ease. Krystal was attentive and very comforting during our session, as a fellow massage therapist its not easy to shut your mind off and relax but Krystal just has a way of making you feel at peace with yourself and she was very open to making sure you are enjoying your massage fully. It was my first time having ashiastu done and let's just say I'm a believer! Krystal is a wonderful therapist and the beautiful Buddha statues were a great touch. I have been going to Wat for a few years. Most of the massage therapists are good. However, I went last week and had the best therapeutic massage in years from Julio. I have had upper back pain for several months --the day after my massage from Julio- the pain was gone. To be clear, it was not a relaxing massage but you want a therapeutic massage--he is the man. I have chronic back pain, and have been to several locations around DC looking for a massage therapist to meet my needs. I was having a particularly bad day and called Wat and was amazed to get a same day massage (that never works out!). Julio was my therapist and he was awesome! He gave me the first real deep tissue massage I've had in a long time. Most of the time I end up with a moderate pressure swedish, which is relaxing, but doesn't have much of an impact. He spent lots of time on the areas that were really bothering me, and I felt better for days. He really understands the pressure and technique necessary the help release tension and serious knots. I received a Wat Signature Massage Gift card for my birthday because it was rated #1 on Yelp in DC - let me just say they definitely did not disappoint! If you're looking for a spa with showers, steam room, and sauna this is not your place, but if you're looking for an excellent deep tissue (Wat Signature Massage - 90 minutes) you've got to come here. I arrived 10 minutes early and the front desk staff was very nice and offered me water or tea while I waited for my massage therapist Julio who I booked because he also had great reviews on Yelp. Julio took the time to understand where I wanted him to concentrate and if I had any injuries. This was one of the best deep tissue massages I've ever had! Julio focused on the problem areas I identified and found the areas that were contributing to my problems. Throughout the massage he would check in to ensure the pressure was adequate or not too intense which I think was very helpful as deep tissue massage pressure can get intense at times. Right after the massage I felt rejuvenated albeit a bit sore, but it was a good sore. By the next day I felt like a million bucks! Let me just say that Aaron is a godsend. I hurt/threw out my lower back yesterday morning and went to see Aaron last night for trigger point/myofascial massage therapy. This my second time seeing him - first time I went when I hurt my neck lifting something wrong. Aaron spent an hour poking at different 'trigger points' on my back/neck/legs. It's painful in that good-pain-kind-of-way, and you can tell that whatever he's doing comes from a deep understanding of the human body and nervous system. I left feeling just a little better, still in some pain. BUT today I feel like a new person. I would pay twice as much as I did for this pain relief. I have chronic neck and back pain from the extreme amount of stress watching the bachelor puts on me and it has recently become unbearable. I was supposed to go to class today but then I came to my senses and realized that two hours of learning how to be professionally responsible might just put me over the edge. I called Wat Massage and they were able to accommodate me for a 90 minute massage and I will forever remember that moment as the greatest decision ever made on history. She is a sweet angel who listened to what was bothering me and then used her tricks (I mean illusions) and made me a completely new person. Seriously. Pre-massage: I had the range of motion of the hunchback of Notre Dame. Post-massage: I was like that chick from the Exorcist and my head wouldn't stop doing 360s. Pre-massage: I was 5'10 but carried myself like I was 5'5. Post-massage: I grew 47 feet. Pre-massage: you could bounce quarters off my trapezius. Post-massage: anything that came near my traps would melt into them like butter. The only strange thing that happened is that I'm 900% sure that song from Casper the Friendly ghost was playing.
