We ordered takeout through Yelp and delivered via Grubhub. Everything was over the top delicious. I was concerned about the times quoted: 50-70 min by Grubhub and 2 hours + by Yelp. The food was at our door in 60 min and perfect. It was Friday night so maybe a busy delivery time, but so worth it. Recommended by my brother to try this place out. I was disappointed an old hole in a wall place and a disgusting bathroom. Besides that tried their rolls and sashimi and taste like those cheap chinese $1 sushi joints. They use cheap grade of salmon and the rolls are plain disgusting. My wife and I hurried and get out. We lost our appetite and yelled at my brother for recommending us a bad place. He likes it and orders from there often. I don't have high standards but Kombu is much better. Try that place and compare to this place. They use high grade salmon not cheap $1 hard salmon. read more

Went by myself to try the sashimi. Thought I'd give them a shot instead of going to Nemo in Keyport. Was informed that they had Blue Point oysters as a special so I ordered the oysters, also. I sat at the counter. 2 Stars might be on the generous side. The oysters were served first. They were dry in the shell obviously shucked well (hours) in advance. I tried one to be generous... had to pry the oyster off the shell as they were dried on... without any liquor in the shell they weren't worth eating and after the first I wasn't confident they were even still alive. A bad sign for a restaurant that is supposed to be all about freshness. The owner was visibly annoyed and treated me coldly when I returned the plate. The sashimi was watery... not sure if they thawed the fish properly or what... but it was truely mediocre. I will stick with Nemo for sushi/sashimi as their quality is far superior in my opinion. read more

This place was just okay. We walked in and the ambiance was strange - decor looked like an old Charlie Brown steakhouse and it kind of smelled. We were seated right away on a Friday night (it wasn't Busy). We ordered a ton of sushi. Everything was just okay. Nothing really blew my mind and there was a coupe rolls I didn't like. Great BYOB sushi place. It is very casual inside, nothing special but the food is delicious! Totally recommend it for tasty sushi at a great price! The service has always been great- very helpful and attentive. I recommend the Kenny roll and the Chilean crunch roll. read more

We loveeee Wasabi House! More importantly we love that they deliver! It's so rare to find a Japanese take out/delivery place and a great one too. We have had their gyoza which is amazing and their hibachi fried rice.. also amazing! The teriyaki chicken is good as well. As for the sushi, I've tried it once and it was good but I wouldn't order it again for delivery because sometimes it does take 30 minutes or so on busy nights and I like my sushi to be on the colder side. I have been coming to this place for some time. I think it should be rated at least 4.5 stars. The food quality and the service are always consistant. In addition, the prices are fairly low compare to other restaurants around the area. btw - it's also, BYOB. So, low pricing with quality and good service, in my book, def get my business. read more

Although I have eaten at Wasabi 34 for a number of years, it was one event in particular that changed my perspective of the restaurant forever. My review for this restaurant will be a bit unorthodox but the following story IS relevant to my opinion of this place so please bear with me. My tale begins on one windy and frigid winter day. I decided that I was in the mood for sushi. Naturally, I called the number for Wasabi and placed an order for me to pick up. I excitedly clambered into the front seat of my car and drove off. I was eager with anticipation, for my taste buds would soon be indulging in the succulent flavors of fresh yellowtail and salmon sashimi. Just as I pulled into the restaurant's parking lot however, my fervent dreams of the piscine were interrupted by a sudden jolt. My car had suddenly stopped! Wondering what was wrong, I stopped the car's engine and stepped outside. Moments later, plumes of smoke began billowing out from under the hood! Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a glint of orange from underneath the car. To my abject horror, I realized that the glint of orange was actually a small flame! After five seconds of gaping at the car in disbelief, I made a call to 911 and informed them of the situation. I continued to watch the unrelenting flames grow and consume the hunk of metal that used to be my car. The heat emanating from the flames was not comforting. It did little to soothe my fears or the biting cold of the -12 degrees celsius temperature. As I stood alone on the parking lot, one profound thought crossed my mind that would single handedly define the entirety of my existence on God's earth: "I sure hope this doesn't mean that I won't get to eat my sushi." Fortunately, the car was far enough away from the restaurant that the fire had made no contact with it. I informed the owners of the situation and all of the customers quickly left the premises. The police and firemen arrived and put out the flames. After they finished interrogating me, they towed the car away and left. The harrowing event had done nothing to spoil my appetite however, and I returned to the restaurant to finally pick up my order. I still felt a twinge of guilt for ruining the customers' dining experiences and causing the restaurant to lose business in the process. I assumed that my return would be met with nothing but disdain. Instead however, the woman at the register expressed concern for my wellbeing and asked if I was ok. She even refused to accept my payment for the order and said that I could take it for free! I was stunned. Here was I, the gluttonous fool who still had the nerve to prance into the establishment that he had almost singlehandedly burned down and still demand service. Yet despite this, the people there were treating me with kindness that I did not deserve. I had never been treated with such compassion in my entire life! Despite my objections, I eventually relented and picked up the plastic bag containing my food, tears streaming down my face as I was overcome with gratitude. I had a relative come and pick me up. Similarly to how the greek hero Odysseus struggled to return to his homeland of Ithaca, I too had faced a journey fraught with arduous challenges and was forced to overcome them before I could gain the satisfaction of returning home and eating my dinner. My dinner was not the most important thing that I took away from the journey however. My experience at Wasabi 34 taught me to never take the benignity of the human heart for granted ever again. We've been going to Wasabi 34 for years and used to love it. However, the last few times, not so much. No more cucumber salad or oshibori. Service as recently as the week was so-so - the servers were polite enough, but I felt like I needed to shoot off a flare to get any attention - both servers were too busy talking to the sushi chefs to offer a 2nd cup of tea or take my payment. Worse, recently we have had trouble with some sushi not tasting as fresh as you should expect with raw fish I'm guessing we'll go back eventually, but we are becoming increasingly disappointed in what was once our go to place for dinner. read more

My friend and I go out for sushi every Thursday. We had been going to Hunan Gourmet, but they are rude and always try to rush us out, even after giving them repeated business. We switched to Kyoto, which is ok, but I recently ordered dumplings and they tasted like sewer and excrement; needless to say that turned me off. Upon searching for a new place, I saw all the good reviews for WASABI HOUSE. I can whole-heartedly tell you that I was not even the slightest bit disappointed. The soup was delicious and piping hot. I ordered all raw sushi and it was so clean, fresh and tasty. My friend said, "If they have mochi, it's a homerun," and sure enough they did. HOMERUN! I know this isn't NYC or Seattle, but who would've thought Matawan, NJ could become renound for incredible sushi? Give Wasabi House a chance, and YOU WON'T be disappointed. read more

Came here for lunch on a Sunday. A good sushi place, comparable in quality to Midori in Highland Park, for those who have eaten there.

We love wasabi house, food is always fresh and the waiters are friendly and quick. I love their spider roll and have them give us extra spicy mayo. My children love the chicken fried rice and my husband orders a huge sushi platter. We are never disappointed. Their food is amazing, I would have given 5 stars but the ambiance inside could definitely use a makeover. read more

I've visited Wasabi several times now for lunch and it gets better each time! My last visit was on a Sunday for lunch and it wasn't too busy. Past this places a thousand times and I now know why, nothing special. When you walk in, there is wood panel everywhere! That is not a good sign. The chairs were old from a reception hall. So I wasent too impressed when I got there. The house salad dressing was very bland. The miso soup was diluted. I ordered hot tea and never got it. I ordered the sashimi dinner which came with soup and salad, and I was still hungry after eating the meal. I will stick with my usual Nakayama place in Hazlet. Yummy sushi place, but not the best I've ever had. The place is small but inviting. Everyone was really friendly and we also received a free appetizer and dessert. The appetizer was a seaweed salad with pickled vegetables. It was really refreshing. We ordered the gyoza which was pretty good and 3 rolls. The best roll was the Red Dragon. The tuna was really fresh. All I could taste in the Chilean fish tempura roll was the deep fried flavor, but my boyfriend liked it. We also ordered the Mari Gras roll which was crawfish and avocado. It was pretty good, but who knows if the fish was fresh or frozen. Over all a nice evening out for sushi. Probably would go back and order any roll with tuna. read more

We used to be regulars at OSHO in Holmdel. Unfortunately the owner retired and closed the sushi restaurant. One of the OSHO waitresses recommended the Wasabi House. We have been there twice now and found our new regular sushi place. All the item we tried so far were reasonable, good quality and we enjoyed them. The WORST sushi I have ever had. I ordered take out with a co-worker. The menu says it was 3 rolls for around $11.00 however it didn't say you have to eat at the restaurant to get that deal so they are sneaky too. The ginger salad dressing tasted like someone whipped a carrot in a blender and poured it over old sick looking lettuce. They did not give any wasabi or ginger and when I called to tell them we didn't get wasabi, ginger or oyster sauce the woman on the phone got really nasty. This place is just plain NASTY! read more

This place is terrible. Went there months back and never got our food. They apologize because they were short staffed; for that reason we gave them a second chance. We just got back from out almost three hour experience. We ordered and they brought us our drinks and soup right away. We waited 1 hour after that for our food from the sushi bar.
