I only put a rating in because I had to. I haven't been to this park in about five years where I…read morehad both good experiences and bad experiences. My dog is fine once she gets into the open area but can be leash aggressive when on the leash. Which the one time we were going, two dog owners were coming (one to and one from) the park where their dogs were OFF LEASH on the path outside of the dog park., on way to parking lot. One came towards my pup very aggressively. My neighbor hasn't been there for a few years either because his gentle dog was viciously attacked (as in grabbing her by neck//throught, standing over, shaking her, and her owner did nothing, until others yelled at said owner,, who picked her dog up and just left without making sure his dog was okay, or apologize. After owner left, friend said he picked his dog and rushed her to the vet, Another time, my first time there, I took my two to the smaller side, and my beagle was doing well until a gentleman arrived with his small dog who immediately went after my beagle in a very aggressive way and he said "just let them work it out." Thankfully the others there said "No. you don't do that with someone's first time experience bringing their dog to a dog park," which felt good to be supported in that way Finally, one other time, it was a pleasant experience, the people welcomed us in, asked about our dog, helped if either of our dogs seemed overwhelmed, etc. As a result, it is hard for me to say whether or not I would recommend this park since I have not been there for five years.

My dog loved this park. It's not too far from where I live so I will definitely be returning…read more Pretty atmosphere

Verterans Park is a nice sized park that's easily accessible from multiple points. The park is…read morewell equipped with various sporting facilities, including tennis courts, volleyball nets and even a small, ver basic, skate park. There's even a location for roller hockey. There are play areas for kids, and picnic tables (including covered picnic locations) for families looking to spend some time out of doors. It can be very crowded on a nice weekend, which is both good and bad, as I'm glad that they park is being used by the Township's citizens, but at the same time, you always want the nice places all for yourself. There are parking areas on different sides of the park, and I prefer to park on the Hamilton/Whitehorse Road side, but that spot is pretty small, is popular with runners, and fills up especially fast on weekends. To make matters worse, for some reason the City recently installed E-Car charging stations there (sure, pick the smallest lot--nice work, Hamilton), so parking in those four spaces is no longer available for anyone, as the even the e-cars must leave after charging. There are well paved paths that lead through the park, and there are park maps located in a few places along the main paved paths. There are also dirt trails that lead through the more wooded areas in the park, but sadly, they are very poorly marked--meaning almost not at all, and it's up to you to figure them out. However, the park isn't so big that you can really get lost, so...go out and try to get lost, and you'll figure out the dirt trails soon enough. They aren't nearly as popular as the paved trails, so they should be your destination if the sensation of having the park to yourself is a goal. There's a dog park located by the Kuser Road entrance. There's a fenced in area for large and smaller dogs, but to be brutally honest, both areas are tiny compared to the expansive dog park located at Rosedale Park in nearby Pennington. That said, if you just want to bring your dog to a place where they can socialize and you're not worried about them having a place to run, it's fine. Just make sure you walk them through the main park itself before or after so that they can get some exercise. On the negative side, other than the poorly marked dirt trails and the underwhelming size of the dog park, the main problem in Veterans Park, which is pretty much the main problem in every park in the county. The city recently put up signs saying there will be improvements made to the paths that include separate bike lanes. It's a good idea, and a necessary one , but I'll be surprised if the people on feet respect the bike lines. Prove me wrong, Hamilton!

There is a water fountain and often bowls and jugs available for dogs. Additionally on some Saturdays there is a Friends of Curtis Park clean up crew that beautifies the area. The area is also part of a watershed thus there are small views of water around the area as well. I took away 1 star only bc there are not any toys for dogs here but that may be best for germ reasons anyway

It's free to enter and looks as though it's well kept. One complaint I have about free dog parks is that your not able to feel confident about the other dogs inside the park. I've been a member of other dog parks which required a small yearly fee but it verified every dog was up to date on shots and is not aggressive. Outside of the park is a water fountain which is nice for the warmer weather when you bring your dog to run around. Both times I came we entered the large dog park area and were only people in there. The first time someone came in after us. The first red flag on their dog was when they kept repeating "be nice " over and over as they entered the park. The dog quickly become aggressive and we left. I enjoy going to dog parks with smaller crowds so my personal opinion would be to not enter this one (that's not monitoring who is coming + going) when there is a huge crowd.
