If you live locally it may be worthwhile but the drive for me was such a waste of my time for what this was. Ready? It's a: Big Wooden Castle Yep, that's it, folks. A gigantic version of that swingset-clubhouse combo you bought at Costco only to rot in your backyard because spiders and rain made it so unpleasant for kids that they refuse to use it. It's that creepy clubhouse times 30! It's pretty much a regular playground with most kids swarming the swings and other play features with a few venturing into the old wood play structure. They go in once and don't go back in again. My son was cursed at by older boys who appeared beyond the age guidelines (and I was surprised to see them still interested in a playground). In the myopic darkness of the castle, my son banged his head when inside the dank structure there was suddenly an unmarked (unlit) drastic change in ceiling height. Needless to say this experience was a turn off. Most kids really preferred being out in daylight because the castle felt more like a dungeon. It was fun to see friends and we enjoyed the togetherness of the play date but unless I'm in the area and desperate for a kid distraction, I won't be back.

It's padded so kids can run around and trip/fall without getting too injured and without being covered in grass and dirt. A definite plus! For hot days, there is a spray area that kids can use to cool off. Ice cream trucks usually hang out in the parking lot in the summer as well, so bring cash and prepare to hear "I want a spongebob pop" 9000000000000 times until you give in. There's a great variety of equipment and a section just for smaller kiddos, so if you're bringing multiple age ranges, everyone can enjoy. There's even a Little Free Library on the premise which often has a nice selection of books for both kids and adults. Lukens Park has pavilions right next to the playground that are available to rent for a small fee. We've had parties here in the past and everyone had a great time. Parents hung out and enjoyed the shade while the kids ran around playing. Last, but absolutely not least, this park is made accessible, so it really is for everybody. Basketball hoops can be lowered for wheelchair play, there are special swings, ramps and accessible equipment. I love this playground and am so glad it's so close to where I live.

I love the fact that the restrooms use hand dryers instead of paper towels considering the fact that this is a park. I just wish all those trees weren't cut down to build a bigger parking lot, because before they were, the playground was much more shady.

The kids really enjoy running around and playing on the different playground structures, including the spinning jungle gym thing and the huge swing! In addition to that great playground, they also have a nice long trail to walk around the whole park, lots of open space to use otherwise (I've seen people playing volleyball before), other sports courts such as basketball right near the playground, and one of my favorites, the fitness court! That's a great place to do some exercises that I've sometimes seen folks do on a playground, but this one is customized for exercise. Weather's still not fully there yet, but I may get back out there soon to use that equipment again!

At that birdwatching station, they have an area full of birdbaths and other things to attract birds, so there were quite a variety of birds there. There's disc golf and a few areas for hiking as well, so it could be a nice place to continue exploring, especially since it's so close to home!

In addition to the playground, there are clean restrooms (open now), water fountains, trash receptacles for both landfill and recycling, easy parking, wooded trails, spacious fields and the most inviting Little Free Library I've seen in any setting. It matches the playground! The crowd today is super chill, very friendly, and clearly not obsessed with pandemics. Children and parents are playing, picnicking, making new friends, laughing and socializing and having a wonderful day. It feels just like the before times. WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK FOR?!? Its completely free and is a lot of fun for younger kids. Half of it is a water spray park with various different forms of sprinklers and sprayers for kids to run through. The other half is a very modern playground with interesting new versions of the traditional rides. It just opened in summer '16 so everything is the latest models in great condition. The playground is attached to the Rec Center which has a basketball court, ping pong tables and other games. But the center would be a separate review. Theres also private rooms to rent out for birthday parties or other events. Clean bathrooms and plenty of parking is a bonus.
