Graeme Park is a tough one. As much as I'm a sucker for anything historical in nature especially colonial history, Jeanne P to me is far more on point with her three star assessment of things versus Dan F's review which makes things out to be far more interesting here than they really are. Let me start by saying that the grounds themselves are beautiful. The house and the barn are indeed set far enough off the main thoroughfare that you can't hear any nearby traffic or noise. I get why this place must do very well as a wedding venue which at this point in time I would imagine is the site's main purpose/money maker/reason for being. Permanent tent set up behind the barn. Portable toilet set up also behind the barn. A large field or two which is perfect for overflow parking for the guests. With that said, we weren't here for that. As part of PA's Trails of History we were here for a tour of the 1722 Keith House. The tour started in the summer kitchen which is next to the Keith House. The kitchen is not original but was supposedly constructed on top of the foundation of the original. They still use it on occasion for programs and you can see/smell that as soon as you walk in. After that you led into the Keith House. The rooms you are shown are either unfurnished or sparingly furnished with period pieces as nothing is original past a few tiles which are on the ground inside one of the fireplaces. Arguably the most interesting part of the house is that a few of the rooms have original molding, paneling and paint from the 18th century. Let me pivot and mention that while Dan F. brings up the best parts of the house's history (aside of that brief period of time the house either sat abandoned for large periods of time, is occupied by squatting farmers who deface the building with graffiti like the name/words that are carved into the one fireplace mantel and partially painted over from the late 19th century or is neglected which is why it's eventually given to the PHMC by the Strawbridge family who owned it in the 1950's) in his review, for us none of that is mentioned on our tour. While in the barn before the tour we watched a short video about the history of the house and we learned most of what he mentioned there. On the tour our guide was quite honestly very flat. She for the most part did not connect any of the dots past leading us into a room and saying this would have been the XX room and then just stood there unless I asked about something to try and learn more or simply to end the awkward silence. Not terribly thrilling to be honest. A great place for some unique pictures? Sure Maybe even a little bit of trail walking? Certainly A nice picnic area since visiting the grounds are free? You bet A solid tour about colonial history? Not so much. It was more like Ben Stein on a bottle of NyQuil reading the phone book. One and done. If you go: The website lists their hours as Friday-Saturday 10am to 4pm with the last tour starting at 3pm and Sunday Noon to 4pm with the last tour starting at 3pm. That would imply hourly tours but nowhere does it say that specifically on their website nor at the actual site itself. They do accept cash or credit for the tour cost or if you decide to buy anything in their small gift shop inside the barn. Our tour lasted a little more than thirty minutes. You are taken inside the summer kitchen which is not original and then inside the Keith House. Regular Admission - $6 Senior (65+) - $5 Ages 3-11 - $3 Ages 2 and under - FREE Also worth mentioning is that when we got there we had no idea what to do. The barn area where tours start was deserted without any kind of signage mentioning something like "Back in Five" or "Out on a Tour in the House", etc for almost thirty minutes. Eventually we put two and two together that one person there was showing a wedding couple around and the other person was out doing a tour of the house.

What was great; 1.) the grounds are beautifully landscaped with huge trees and flowering bushes, 2.) there are numerous porches, patios, and benches all around for impromptu gatherings, 3.) the luncheon menu had very good choices and the prices were not too expensive, 4.) the waitresses were kind and hard working, 5.) the decor is Williamsburg, colonial, and charming What was not great; 1.) the website says full country breakfast, but that is not true- things have changed-but the website did not get updated. There is only breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays in the hotel restaurant, not during the week. 2.) the website mentions various room types- queen, 2 queens, king, 2 queen deluxe, etc etc. I booked a 2 queen deluxe room, directly through the hotel, but somehow I ended up with just one queen bed. The lady in the registration office was very nice, but there were no 2-queen rooms available. And also, the queen bed in our room was saggy. 3.) there is no refrigerator or microwave or coffee machine in the room, also the restaurant was not open, and so we had trouble finding coffee in the morning. We went to the registration office, and that is when we found out there is no free "full country breakfast" as advertised. Instead, they had "grab and go" snacks, and the restaurant does not open until lunch. Also the coffee machine in the office was out of order. We had to search for a breakfast place nearby and since we are not familiar with the area, this took a while. Even though there were some problems with the bed and getting breakfast, overall this IS a place you should go to because it is truly a park-like setting, and the decor is charming. I would recommend that you bring a small coffee maker and a cooler for your room.

I had a little bit of everything, steak, chicken, salmon, ravioli and ziti. Worst first, the steak was tough but tasty, ravioli was not good , very dry, chicken was pretty good and the salmon was excellent. Deserts weren't quite up to expectations either. Small bites were just ok , cannoli's were also just ok and the cheesecake was very good. Service was great but overall I feel it wasn't as good as past dinner parties. It is still very good and I can't wait to go back to the pub and hopefully the dinner service is as good as in the past.

It is very attractive and well maintained. The room held our 300+ people comfortably. Tables of 12 filled the space with walking and chatting easily accomplished. Service was efficient and unobtrusive. The evening was designed for an abundance of public speaking (some would say too much, but what do you expect from a room full of pols?) The buffet spread was more than adequate from salad through dessert. Yet, such events are seldom about the food and much more about jazzing people up to work hard the next three weeks to get our slate of candidates elected on November 5th, and Keeping Bucks Blue and supporting the national ticket. The grub was better than rubber chicken, but I forget exactly what was on my plate. As you would expect the speakers did their jobs well. Three congresspeople started off the festivities, followed by the Governors of Delaware and Rhode Island. Our Lieutenant Governor also lit us up, as did an Under Secretary of the Army (a former congressman) and a couple of local pols with our State Senator as master of ceremonies. We were up out of our seats in shouted ovation multiple times. The Warrington held up well with minimal acoustic issues. We managed to party like it was already November 6. We knew that the Vice President had been in the neighborhood earlier in the day speaking at Washington Crossing Historic Park, and hoped she might make a surprise guest appearance to send us over the moon, but learned she had a date with Fox News for an interview. No doubt she would have had more fun with us. This was a pep rally in spades and white linen.

There was no covering, so the sun was beating down on us, but thank goodness the day wasn't too hot, so it worked out. The service was great. The staff was very helpful. The steak was a no-go. Overall, this place is a great place to have an event.

Fonthill Castle was the home of archeologist and tile maker Henry Chapman Mercer. (Also in Doylestown are two more Mercer buildings you can tour - the Mercer Museum and the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works building, the business Mercer ran and where most of the tiles in the castle were produced.) Henry Mercer seems like he was an interesting guy, and you can see that in his home - 44 rooms, 18 fireplaces, 200 windows, who knows how many staircases...! And designed and decorated in a way I've never seen anywhere else. The castle is an early example of poured-in-place concrete building and is a mix of Medieval, Gothic, and Byzantine architectural styles. And there are, of course, Moravia tiles (and some historic and international tiles that he collected during his life) throughout the house - almost more than you could imagine. We visited last Saturday to experience their "Fonthill Castle Holiday Lights Meander Experience," which allows you to visit the castle through a self-guided experience (there were staff in various rooms who were happy to answer questions) and enjoy a series of Christmas trees on display throughout the home. I definitely enjoyed the experience but am definitely planning a return visit to see the castle in better light (not at night in the dark - which was perfect for the Christmas tree experience) - they offer 60-minute guided tours though the house for most of the year! The castle is pretty wild, and I look forward to visiting it again and experiencing it in a new way. If you are interested in architecture, art, crafts, the Arts and Crafts design movement, or just quirky, unusual places, definitely add Fonthill to your list and check it out!

I pass this course quite often, played there years ago and was disappointed that I couldn't golf. I forget about this course actually. Anyway, as my group finished golf and arrived for lunch most said the grounds were as hard as a rock, not in good shape and I should be glad not to have golfed that day. Hmm. They all said no more golf outings there. In all fairness, it is the first week of Spring and maybe it just needs more time since the season is just starting. Nonetheless...they were very disappointed. On a good note, the 20 of us sat on the outside covered patio and had a really good lunch. I wasn't expecting much based on the bad reviews of the course therefore I was quite surprised just how good the food was at their restaurant. My burger and fries were delicious. Cooked exactly as requested. The chicken cheesesteak was a huge sandwich and filled with a generous amount of chicken. Two could easily share that. Everyone enjoyed their food and drinks. Only one mishap...they ran out of fries! Substituted onion rings. Normally, that would be a good thing however, the onion rings looked awful. Skinny and overdone, more fried breading then onion...not the good kind of onion rings. Glad I was last to get the fries otherwise my review would be less stars. The quesadilla, salads and other meals also looked very good and generous portions. Our service was friendly and timly. I can see going back for lunch at some point to dine outside on a nice day. Not sure about the golf? I was fluctuating between 3 and 4 stars bc 3.5 would be my pick however, I just can't do 4 stars...hopefully next time. And I will try the restaurant again...probably one of the better restaurants in that area.
