People along the path are friendly and just enjoying the day. It's a perfect path to practice for the Broad Street Run if you are local. A pleasant surprise if an eatery around Bryn Mawr I believe that offers food & drinks if you need to take a break. It's so easy that in an hours time you realize you have walked 4 miles. Very clean & well taken care of. Highly recommend!

My friend and I…read morevisited on a Sunday afternoon and it basically looked like a Rockwell painting out there...older couples strolling, families riding bikes, kids with fishing rods, etc. Everyone is super friendly and the vibe is just wonderful. The trail is great for the novice bike rider like myself. It is paved which is good for my ridiculously impractical cruiser three speed bike. Mile markers as well as historical little signs help you keep your bearings and learn a thing or two along the way. There is plenty of parking, which makes it easier to come out and enjoy the outdoors!

Mallards, hawks, and swans O my!…read more I visited the Wissahickon Waterfowl Preserve this weekend which is connected to the Green Ribbon Trail (0.06 miles away) and it is a wonderful spot to observe birds and ducks by a freestanding island. There is even a pier where you can set up a scope or use binoculars and get magnificent visuals on these majestic creatures. Interesting tidbit which I observed this weekend, predator birds like hawks are actually chased away by non-predator birds, like the red winged black bird, as non-predator birds do like predator birds hunting on their land! I witnessed this myself and was instructed by our birding tour guide this happens with birds unlike land animals. The tour guide further explained not all predator birds eat other birds hence this behavior exists in nature. There is free street parking right next to the Wissahickon Waterfowl Preserve and the lovely town of Ambler can be explored after you are done with your biridng. As always people SYOY!!!

Full disclosure: I didn't know that the organization called Natural Lands existed until I visited…read morethis site, so I didn't go in with any expectations shaped by that. My parents live nearby (and I grew up there), my girlfriend and I were visiting, we wanted to take an outdoor stroll and chose to take it at the Gwynedd Preserve. It served our purposes well. It had clean walking trails. The back part is near power lines, like the trail at Wentz Run Park, but it's otherwise clear/natural space. There are a few spots with especially nice views. Since I'm drawing some of the details from their own educational signs, I might be drinking their Kool Aid, but it looks like they're doing a good job preserving some local wetlands and keeping local drainage working in the process. From a practical recommendation standpoint, I don't know how one should choose among here, the Farm Park, the trail behind Wentz, etc., as places to visit. But, it's a pretty good place to walk.

Gwynedd Preserve was my 15th Natural Lands preserve of the 20 I've now visited. Of all the…read morepreserves, I have to say this one was by far the dirtiest with dog poo. Natural Lands provides a receptacle for dog droppings, AND bags to collect them. WHY would anyone have a reason not to clean up after their dog? Not only that, but I found FOUR PILES within the first twenty yards of the parking lot where all the dog poo stuff is located. This preserve is located in a very opulent and showy part of North Wales. The other visitors I saw were in flashy cars, and dressed like Martha Stewart. I didn't witness who exactly didn't pick up their dog poo, but I saw people with dogs, and the poo was fresh. It seems like the frequent visitors here believe themselves to be above abiding preserve rules to clean up after pets, which makes the preserve pretty disgusting for others. One dog crapped something white, green and blue, and it was extremely foul. It is a shame because Natural Lands doesn't condone this behavior, has rules against it, and needs to work on enforcement. It really put a damper on my experience because I do pick up after my dogs, and I don't like having to worry about stepping in someone else's mess when I am there to enjoy the day with my own pets and young child. Grossness aside, this preserve is a vast meadow, with some very pretty views. Log slab benches have been added with donor names credited, and little Martha Stewart-esque message boxes where you can write inspirational thoughts for the next visitor. There is a windmill in one meadow, just for show, which was interesting, however inauthentic. I had a good vibe here, overall. I don't know the history of the land, but it felt horse farm-y, like a lot of horses had lived good lives there. I normally always give greenspace a minimum of 4 stars for the fact of its existence. And I love to give greenspace 5 stars! In this case, the poo was so offensive, I can't give more than 3. It's not NL's fault, it's the gross visitors. But it mars the experience nonetheless. Hope the local peeps will want to clean up their preserve and do it proud so it can keep on par with all the rest!!!

Unlike the Banbury/Mopac trail, this is mostly a walk through the woods with a small bridge, and many paths to follow through the woods. It is very peaceful and quiet, and to this day I have not been on all the paths that lead further into the woods yet!! It has a finished parking lot with plenty of parking and leaving to go onto Godshall Road can be a pain at times, but is manageable. So, if your looking for a nice stroll through some scenic woods, this is the place!!

Next, I took the Wetland Meadow Ramble until I reached the double bridge and enjoyed views of the stream. The entire hike took less than an hour, making it a quick adventure. Can't wait to return, probably in the Fall, to experience the spring and the ruins.

Most of our trail was covered by trees, but there were some open places. We observed some wild animals like deer along the way. There was a 12% grade hill (for about 1/4 mile) along the way which gave some of us a little challenge especially our climb was almost towards the end of 6.5 mile walk. We took an advantage of a bench located at the top of the hill. The Perkiomen Trail is a 19-mile-long multi-use trail along the Perkiomen Creek in Pennsylvania. It begins at the junction with the Schuylkill River Trail near the mouth of the Perkiomen and Valley Forge National Historical Park and ends in Green Lane Park. For the most of its length, the "Perky" as it is know by the locals, uses the former rail bed of the Perkiomen Line of the Reading Railroad. Some of our cohorts were terribly bothered by the swarm of cicadas along some part of our route of about 6.5 miles. It seemed it was especially challenging when we crossed over three bridges. I was trying to be kind, but it was particularly hilarious watching them dodge cicadas since some of them landed on their bodies...I had some fun at their expense. It was a very nice walk in the afternoon with some cloud cover and breeze.

Ralph Stover State Park and overlook is quite honestly one of my favorite places on this earth…read more We go every year once the squelching summer heat and humidity leave us and the breezy fall days arrive. The overlook provides acres of hiking lands, scenic overlooks and peaceful vistas, There is a lot to see as you wander the park. Hawks dance in the skies over the Tohickon creek. Rock climbers ascend and repel the massive rock formations. Squirrels and chipmunks scurry about. There are paths but not so much paved trails, but it is easy to roam without fear of loosing your bearings. Fences and rails provide safety if children are afoot, but fear not there are plenty of access to areas to climb and explore for avid hikers seeking a challenge.

The views of the gorge into the river at the beginning are really pretty. The trail we took went down to the river too. I'm not sure we followed an actual trail, but we walked around for 1-2 hours. If you're looking for hiking and very scenic views, this probably isn't your place. It's a good place to get outside and get some fresh air though.

Its nearly 15 acres has a kids playground, ball fields, fishing pond, gazebo and restrooms (currently closed due to Covid-19). It is a pleasant public space designed for family use. On this beautiful Sunday in June it was quiet. Parents with young children were primarily at the playground, while kids old enough to handle a fishing rod were practicing their casting into the pond. Teenagers were seen farther out along the trails congregating in small groups. To each his own. We walked along the paved pathway over Pine Run Creek to be able to reach Old Ironhill Road and the northern approach to the covered bridge. There was some traffic, so we waited until it was clear and safe to walk through the hemlock and pine span to to the end. From there, we walked along Pine Run a bit to see what flora and fauna it had to offer. Didn't see much, but the gurgling stream was relaxing. Completing the circuit, we strolled back into the center of the park where the car was parked. Our plan was to go next to Peace Valley Park, but when we arrived it was so crowded we decided not to stop because it would have been impossible to maintain safe social distancing, and so many there were not wearing masks. Just not worth the risk.
