    Penny Pack Park

We entered from the Willow Grove side. Very much enjoyed the trails, easily marked and well maintained. The staff was very helpful, would recommend for a day hike or for a long walk.

I have always loved Pennypack Park ever since I was a little kid. We used to walk through, stop at The falls, jump off and go under the falls. It was always a good time. We used to go down on opening day every year. The fishing is always relaxing. I rode my bike through there all of the time when I was younger. Now my Wife and I just leisurely walk through and check out the nature, very peaceful. If you have never been there I suggest you check it out.

The entrance way is atrocious. The number and size of each pothole continues to increase and the problem didn't just start this year. They've continued to ignore the glaring issue. On my last visit there were city workers "inspecting" the area, truly doing nothing more than talking to one another. I'd say a good majority of this park isn't kept up. About 4-5 miles down the trail you'll come to a bridge which is wrapped on one side with caution tape due to a tree that fell breaking the wooden barrier. Instead of repairing what needs attention, they continue to either disregard the situation or mediate it with some terrible mediocre solution.

I've been coming to penny pack park since I was a kid and it's always been...meh...you know? Just a regular old park. Like what are you supposed to even do? Walk around? Feed the ducks? Avoid awkward conversations with creepy old men? Watch ultra marathoners run through the woods and destroy their bodies? Anywho...I recently went with my siblings, we were shocked to see that they were offering FREE horse rides! My baby brother couldn't even contain himself and literally almost wet himself due to excitement. He HAD to ride one of these bad boys. He tried riding the first horse (pictured below) but there was a real struggle with this one due to its size so we had to recollect ourselves and he tried the second horse. It was majestic and I'm pretty sure it was the best day of my baby brothers life! Look at the smile on his dumb little face!! I know you might be thinking that based on the picture this was just another tiny horse but no....my brother is just freakishly tall. It was pretty random but mostly epic.

The park is so big - depending on where you enter determines your park experience! We enjoy the large field and hiking along the horse trail (beware of horse poop). My dog had a great time swimming in the river too! Perfect, quick trails for the not so outdoorsy folks!

I have been visiting Penny Pack Park since 1985. I love this park, it's great for trails, read a book, fish, connect with nature, spend time with family. It's beautiful. Keep it clean so you may enjoy it with your family forever. :)

PennyPack is one of my favorite places in the world. I frequently walk and ride my bike along the trail.

Everyone is just out enjoying life: Kids playing basketball, friends having picnics, people playing tennis, others reading a book or taking a calm walk with their airpods in, dogs running around the dog park while their owners watch from the sidelines, etc. The kids playing basketball always gets me a little emotional because that used to be me and my friends before the responsibilities of adulthood caused my cortisol levels to go through the roof. All we cared about was playing basketball and having fun. It's like a little time portal to the past. The FMC tower watches over the park, reflecting the sky. Hard to rate an entire park this massive, but all things considered, after 5 years of traversing the trails here, this is an awesome park. Note that I live in U-City, so the fact that such a massive trail system exists in only a ~20 minute drive, depending on which part of the park I start in, is a blessing and keeps my sanity. Friends of Wissahickon does a great job maintaining trails and even expanding the system over the past few years. I don't think I've ever observed an unseemly part of the park. Definitely unseemly times of year like the snow thaw or the time between the trees dying and the snow falling, but otherwise, this park is beautiful all times of year. I've never had a hard time parking, never even had trouble with crowds even around the most popular trails (ex. Forbidden Drive). Even the bikers are friendly and patient here! Would strongly recommend not only visiting but coming back to keep exploring! I'm still finding new gems in this massive trail system.

What I've known about Devil's Pool is that it's been a popular hangout spot, especially for teens and young adults--swimming, drinking, smoking, etc. But I wasn't prepared for how disappointing the trail would be. At nearly every turn, there was trash--plastic bottles, wrappers, and even entire black garbage bags just left behind. The closer I got to Devil's Pool, the worse it got. There are clear signs asking visitors to take their trash with them, yet so many clearly don't. It's really disheartening to see such a beautiful natural space disrespected like that. Instead of feeling peaceful or connected to nature, it honestly felt a bit unsanitary and neglected. Wissahickon Park deserves better. If you visit, please respect the space and take out everything you bring in.

I spent some time walking the trails and made my way around the water too. It's really pretty back there. Lots of flowers in bloom, open space, and quieter areas if you want a break from the crowd. I definitely liked the more shaded, tree-heavy sections the most. Some of the booths were set up fully in the sun and it got a bit intense after a while, so having those cooler, shaded areas made a big difference.
