Schuylkill River Park is a nice spot to get some fresh air and has plenty of grassy areas that are perfect for a picnic. I came here with some friends to have a picnic and watch the sunset, and it was a really nice place for it. You get great views of the Schuylkill River along with the Philly skyline, and the sunset was beautiful from here. There's also a basketball court and easy access to the riverwalk, which is perfect for biking, running, or just taking a walk along the water. Overall, it's a nice little outdoor spot in the city to relax, hang out with friends, or enjoy the views. read more

Schuylkill River Trail offers Philadelphia residents and visitors spectacular waterfront views without entrance fees or dining requirements. Whenever I'm in Philly, my running route is from Queen Village to the Schuylkill River Park. I always break stride of my elite 9 minute mile pace, pause the Watch the Throne album blasting in my ears, and walk through this park. It is a great moment to just take in the peaceful energy. I love this place and parks like it in general. Everyone is just out enjoying life: Kids playing basketball, friends having picnics, people playing tennis, others reading a book or taking a calm walk with their airpods in, dogs running around the dog park while their owners watch from the sidelines, etc. The kids playing basketball always gets me a little emotional because that used to be me and my friends before the responsibilities of adulthood caused my cortisol levels to go through the roof. All we cared about was playing basketball and having fun. It's like a little time portal to the past. The FMC tower watches over the park, reflecting the sky. I always get fascinated with buildings like this and it makes me appreciate human beings. Like we just built that thing no problem. Wild. I can't close out this review without shouting out running. I could be spiraling into the abyss of negative thoughts and force myself to go for a run, and it completely alters my brain chemistry. I feel like I can do anything after a run. I love walking along the Schuylkill River trail. It's nice to take a leisurely stroll up and down the path, especially on a nice day. It's a great opportunity to people watch as well. There are many stops along the path to sit at a bench, but I generally enjoy a continuous walk. read more

The area offered a diverse mix of sports, playground, and places to sit, but no open restrooms or water fountains, so I guess you aren't meant to hang around very long. Train tracks run by, but a bridge to the riverside awaits, with a boardwalk running through the water where you can watch the boaters and such. It seems a lot of cities are now building these Riverwalks, aren't they? This is no exception. Even though the city is still working on this park it is a fantastic green space area to bring your dog or recreate for yourself. The park's proximity to Center City does not hurt either. I enjoyed the serene views of the river, and it really brings out Philadelphia's personality and charm. Passing alongside industry, the Art Museum, 30th St. station, all with terrific glimpses of the city's underrated skyline makes for a fine new addition to a city that so badly needs one. What a great park and running trail! I did a 5K from the dog park (start of the river park) up to the MoMA / Rocky Steps! Views along the river made for a spectacular run! It's nice that the trail is clean and safe! I felt safe even during times when no one else was in sight. The paved running trail is free of potholes and is a fast, flat run. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea culpa. I give Philly a hard time, I know. But every time I come here, it wins me over a little bit more. And it does it with places like this park. This is a gem of a park along the Schuylkill River and it must extend pretty far, although I've only run it from the dog park near Spruce Street up as far as Girard. There are so many beautiful views along the river...the boathouses, the dam, the Art Museum, bridges, etc. There are plenty of places to sit and enjoy nature, there's the giant dog park that looks like a lot of fun for dogs and plenty of space to enjoy being outside. One thing I really like is that the bicyclists here are more respectful than the ones on the Hudson Greenway up in NYC. They seem to realize they're on a narrow recreational path and not participating in the Tour De France so I really enjoyed seeing how everyone (runners, walkers, bikers) shared the path. I'm glad it's not terribly crowded because it's so nice but seriously, everyone in all of Philadelphia should be here every weekend to enjoy this gem you have in the heart of your dirty little city. read more

I love coming here to clear my head. There's also plenty of space if you have a kid(s). When it gets dark out the lights from the bridge and buildings are nice to look at against the water. I've never been in the bathrooms but I believe they're closed after a certain time. If your like me and like to come at night, that can be a inconvenience. read more

So lucky to have this amazing park and trail right in Philadelphia! There are a number of different entrance/exit points, including South Street (pictured), Walnut Street, and Race Street. The path runs right along the Schuylkill River and along the iconic Boathouse Row. The path is so well-maintained with trash cans along the way. It doesn't get overly crowded, and there is plenty of room for runners, bikers, walkers, and rollerbladers. There are plenty of benches to rest or picnic. My absolute favorite spot on the city to run. There is a paved path with different access points to and enter and exit from center city all with amazing views of West Philadelphia and the Schuylkill River. This place is well lit at night and is always a safe place to traverse. During the summer, this place is especially busy with lots of runners, walkers, and bikers. You can walk your dogs here and go for a stroll with your kids or family. There are lots of green areas to stop by if you want to sit on the grass and a sitting benches all along the path. People also come here to fish at various points. If you skate, there is a skate park along the path as well. Many folks use this area to commute to work and to exercise. There is a parking lot but if can often get full. You can also park along Kelly Drive if you need to drive over. What is most notable is the views of the dam and the area around Waterworks restaurant. This is located directly across from the Art Museum sculpture garden. Many wedding photos take place in this area. I will update this review with pictures of the area when the weather gets nicer and the true colors really shine. read more

If this park wasn't so close to railroad tracks, and highways overhangs, I'd be surprised that not too many people know about it. but despite it's location Schuylkill River Park might just be the best park in the city. It's huge so huge and very well maintained. There are plenty of park benches and grass for people to sit on, and there's a trail that easily connects everything that the park has to offer. Inside you'll find basketball courts, a great tennis court, and a great playground for kids to play on. But my favorite thing about the park is the serene community garden. Shuylkill River Park is also a paradise for dog's and their owners. they will get a kick out of running along the patches of green. but there's also a good sized dog bowl for them to run around and make some friends in. read more

Whether it's me tanning here during my lunch or coming here on the weekend for a run or a bike ride I consider this trail by far the most sophisticated and most scenic in Philly. Best thing is they KEEP expanding it. Not sure how far it will go but it's close to South Philly already. I am super excited and can't wait to see the completion of the entire project. read more

This was a gem before people and criminals found out about it. Bikes whiz by at high rates of speed clipping or almost clipping people walking, yoga classes and special events trample the once luscious grass, people unsuspectingly and without warning get attacked in broad daylight by others passing on the trail, no police presence or response - BEWARE! read more

What a beautiful place. It seems to have a little something for everyone. It has a community garden (don't get too excited, long wait list), basketball courts, tennis courts, baseball/softball field, a leash-free dog run, a kiddo playground, plenty of benches and it seems to be well-maintained and clean. A real asset to the residents of the area. I like to walk here and take a book to read. Lots of nice spots to sit, both in and out of the sun. It's not as crowded as Rittenhouse Square, so while the people watching may not be as good, the serenity is better. If you live in the area, I highly recommend. read more

I play tennis on the courts here all the time. They are the closest ones to my house. There's only two and they are not in the best shape, but I'll take what I can get. They are super busy on nice days after work or in the afternoon on weekends. The trick is to get there at off-peak times. If you don't mind waiting, just sit in the grass and read a book, or people watch. I like watching the dogs run around the dog park. They are working on a bridge to connect it to the beginning of the river path! read more

I discovered Schuylkill River Park when looking for public tennis courts in the city, so my rating is for the tennis courts although the rest of the park is beautiful and looks really well maintained. The tennis courts are nice quality, well-kept hard courts. There are only two courts (hence my 4-star not 5-star rating) - so while they are free and convenient, there can be a wait to play during peak hours (after work and on weekends). People who play here regularly have a system where they just chill out on the grass to the side of the courts and people are courteous to wait their turn in the order they came. Also, if there's a time that's really busy, people do tend to shorten their play time to allow people waiting to have a chance to play. Overall, the courts and the park feel very safe, seem well-maintained, and sit in the middle of a peaceful and young family-oriented neighborhood that seems great to live in. Final thoughts... for tennis, these are great public courts. Be prepared for a bit of a wait during peak times, but a great location and convenient to park nearby. read more

This park is pretty sweet. It's compact but hey it's in center city! I've taken my baby niece to the toddler play area several times. The equipment is safe and easy for babies to maneuver. This place is sort of a hidden gem to me! I've been running on the Schuylkill but somehow missed this! This has a more renovated looking pier perfect for biking, running and walking. Many people just lay out in the sun and read. In the adjacent park, there is a plentiful amount of things to do - (2) tennis courts (no time limit, no waiting system), dog park, playgrounds. We went to play tennis and also walked along the water. This place is certainly busy and crowded over the weekends, but safe and clean. This is a must stop if your already on your way to look at the boathouses on the River. read more

This park is fantastic enough to make me want to move back to the Rittenhouse/ Graduate Hospital area! Whenever I have a few free hours or want to smile until my cheeks hurt, I bring my handsome mutt here for some fun. I obviously come here for the dog park. There's a big dog area and a small dog area, and I only bring my jack russell to the small dog area. This is a clean, well kept dog park with plenty of benches and even trees for ample shade. Center City Philadelphia has a new garden spot. This place rocks. It puts Rittenhouse Square to shame. I just hope the city maintains it reasonably well. This is a great park located along the Schuylkill River. There is a huge playground for kids and another one for toddlers. I love taking my son here to play, to watch the dogs run around in the dog-walking pen, stroll through the community garden if it's open, or just watch the big guys play basketball or tennis--he loves watching them through the fence! There is also a big, open, grassy area for anything else. I think there is also some kind of building next to the playground that may have restrooms or tables inside--not sure about that one. As far as the train tracks go, whenever a train is going past, all the little one's are facsinated and stop in their tracks (no pun intended) to watch it go by. I went on my first run here last night and loved it. The views are spectacular, the path isn't that crowded and it was nice to see so many people in Philly enjoying the green space. On my run I passed a yoga class in the lawn, skaters at the park and people just lounging in the grass enjoying the night. This will definitely be one of my new routes! read more

Winter, spring, summer, and fall -- I've walked them all. This is the best way to get from here to there on foot, if your "here" and "there" are somewhere along the east bank of the Schuylkill. Just don't get too absorbed by the breathtaking views of the park and the water during rush hour if you're on foot; you're going to need to stay focused to dodge all the runners with headphones, manic bicyclists (sometimes with headphones), and double-wide strollers (do babies wear headphones?) zipping around. read more

A gorgeous park. it has basketball courts and a place for dogs right by the Schuylkill. My wife and I have two small dogs. We brought them here, and it was amazing. There's two different gated areas for the dogs. One for the larger dogs, and one for the smaller. The people there were so nice and the dogs were actually pretty civil (our beagle is way too energetic to be social most of the time.) If you want to remove your dogs leash once in a while downtown...this is the place. read more
