Overcrowded and unfriendly atmosphere from the "staff" got 1 single beer and waited 20+ minutes to close out while my group was harassed by someone claiming to be "security" who was profusely Drunk , singing karaoke, and sitting on a pool table for well over an hour, asked for my name, to which - I refused to give a random stranger so he told me he could have me "86'd" all while my quite group sat a single table waiting for a pool table to open up- because "he didn't like the looks we were giving" would not recommend coming here unless you're alone in the holidays and have no where else to go. We have been going exclusively to Wan Q for our Chinese takeout, since we moved here, several years ago. Anywhere we move, we try out a few of the most popular/well-liked local Chinese takeout places, until we find a favorite. Wan Q quickly became our favorite, here in Beaverton (& just down Cornell from our favorite bakery/sourdough & tuna melt suppler, Grand Central Bakery- just get there before 4). A few of the dishes we enjoy from Wan Q's: Mar Far chicken, chicken fried rice, veggie lo mein, spring rolls, and sweet and sour chicken. At my last visit, I tried the crab puffs. Delicious, with just a hint of spicy, but delicate enough that I could still taste the crab, and the cream cheese. (I tend to be pretty sensitive to anything spicy, anyone else likely wouldn't use that descriptor for the crab puffs, they might just register it as part of the flavor.) We've never had a bad or disappointing dish, and the chicken that goes into, for example, the sweet and sour chicken dish, tastes fresh, and definitely hits the spot. I discovered this the first time it was my turn to pick the food up, as I was hungry, and the 15 minute drive home got a little too tempting, with all the yummy smells filling my car. The sweet and sour chicken comes with the sauce on the side, so I tasted one of the pieces of chicken, while at a stoplight. Even without the sauce, it was so good, plenty hot, and super fresh. I could really taste the chicken, and of course, the flavor of their yummy breading. Everything from Wan Q's has been fresh, and the batter and oil are perfect, it never tastes stale, or like it's been reused too many times. The adults in my family, we have both worked food service, so we know what shortcuts to look for. When you're making food, especially if something is fried or has a sweet or spicy sauce, you may be able get away with using lower quality ingredients, but that is not the case at Wan Q's. One sign you can look out for, of lesser quality ingredients, you may notice you're ONLY tasting the oil or the sauce. With something like the kind of Chinese food most Americans enjoy, lots of oil, some fried, lots of flavorful sauces, if you can still taste the chicken, itself, and the texture and flavor of the chicken are fresh and on point, THAT is what you're looking for, and that's what you will find, at Wan Q's. They're located in an accessible parking lot, on Cornell. We pick it up during dinner time, which is also rush-hour, but I have never had a problem finding a parking space, right in front of the restaurant. We always get several dishes, and rather than a bag, they use a med/smallish box. It's very convenient, because I can put it in my passenger seat, on the ride home, no oil leaks through to my car upholstery, and I don't have to worry about the bag of food tipping over or spilling, on the drive home. Everyone has been friendly, in fact, the last time I went to Wan Q's (less than a week ago), I was chatting with the person ringing me up, and they were telling me about their karaoke nights, I think it was Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, at the bar. I have seen people dining there, when I come to get our takeout, it's a nice, casual ambience. Going by how good their food is, I would expect the same quality and attention to detail from anything else at Wan Q's. I think their bar, and dine in/take out area, may have different hours, a couple of days a week, so I would suggest double checking, before making those plans. That's about it, there aren't any negatives to cover. Great food, that's always fresh. Clean, casual, friendly environment. Easily accessible parking. Their prices are typical for Chinese takeout in the area, though I would say you get a better value at Wan Q, in terms of quality, and amount of food. Sometimes I forget to check the order, before driving home, but it's always been correct, they've never left anything out of our order, etc. If anything changes, I will update this review. read more

I have not found this place open much, I had not been here for years. They now have very limited hours in the restaurant. The sad thing is I used to go there all the time. I'd eat there, and Karaoke there.The food was good, and I was friendly to the owner and his wife. For some reason the owner's wife turned rude and disrespectful. Many years ago she had my Mom wait for a long time to get served. We stopped going because of the negative attitude from her. I went in last night to say hi to my frien who used to work there as as the KJ but I was informed he no longer was there. The owner's wife was still rude to me, frowned and had an attitude. She was the only bartender there that night. The owner is one of the chefs and has always been kind to me. But unfortunately his wife has pushed us away. I will never go there again due to poor service from the wife! I will say I was surprised they updated the dive it used to be, with paper lanterns, and paper umbrellas hanging from the ceiling. read more

If you're looking for a place with good atmosphere, good food, good drinks and great service... keep looking, because this ain't it. The bartender (who's also the owner) either needs to figure out how to hire and KEEP good bar staff, or needs to learn how to actually tend bar. Taking one person's order, one drink at a time, putting that drink into the computer, making it, and then taking their next order might be ok if there were only 2 people in the bar. It doesn't work when there are 20 people, ranged all over the bar, who have been waiting 15 minutes to get a single drink.. or worse, are trying to go home and can't cash out their tab because the bartender is ignoring them. Don't even get me started on the bar fights. When the owner/bartender can't keep an eye on who's drunk and who's angry, there's a problem here. The food might be good if you didn't know what good Chinese food is supposed to taste like. Never, ever, ever again. This place needs to be taken over by someone who knows how to run a bar/restaurant. read more

Sigh. Our attempts at Chinese takeout lately have been pretty miserable. On this day we went to Riteaid and Costco and Trader Joe's and my broken armed teen rejected my sandwich idea because one handed sandwich eating is no fun. Then her dad and I ( he was helping with some things) rejected her sushi or Thai request. Because sometimes we want to eat something else. Chinese, she said. Because dumplings. We called in food to Wan Q. The lady on the phone was brisk. 20 minutes she said. We were there 25 min later. It was not all ready. It was loaded into the bag as it came out of the kitchen.The bottom item leaked everywhere. The carton was sticky and falling apart. For $44 we got: 1) Broccoli chicken. Mushy broccoli, ok carrots, mushy wet slimy chicken. Kid threw it out. Ate the white rice with a packet of soy sauce. 2) Pork chow mein with pan fried noodle. I think I probably should have said lo mein. It was gross. Several varieties of soggy pork bits, wet bean sprouts, celery and water chestnuts which I do not like in a gravy that tasted awful with two mushrooms packaged separately from some greasy cold noodles. It had some green onions on top to try to pretty it up. Just no man. It reminded me of that canned chow mein stuff from the 60s. I ate 2 bites. Nope. 3) A small egg flower soup. Gelatinous with mushroom bits. My kid dumped that too. 4)8 oily potstickers. They were out of the freezer fine, nicely browned on one side. Came on top of cabbage with dipping sauce. 1 star for these. But we could have made them ourselves. 5) the ex got bbq pork with broccoli. He said it was ok. He took it back to his house so I cannot verify this. He did say the broccoli was soft. Since we only got one small rice, he gave that to the teen and ate his with Trader Joe's brown rice that he keeps in his freezer. Second star is for ex's food and getting the items correct. But bah!. $44 down the tube. We have had takeout from Wan Q before and it was better. It has either gone downhill, Sunday at 2 is a bad time to order, or the other two times were a lucky fluke? I don't know. We should have had the sandwiches. I mean the teen could have diced hers up and eaten with a fork, right? Ugh. read more

Went there to see if it was open on 7/04/2023 and of course it said they opened at 4pm and we were there at 4:30. Restaurant was of course closed. We have been there every day but Monday and restaurant is there but never ever never ever open. There is a sign on the door advertising the bar open 4pm to 7pm but the restaurant is dead and gone. Management or the owners need to tell people that this is a bar and no longer a restaurant!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Big fat liars. They back in the day used to have a good restaurant but it seems to be dead and gone. i REALLY wanted to like this place. the location is good, its open late, and i love the space itself. the couch in the lounge is a great idea, but it doesnt have much going for it than that. the bartender is super sweet and has great service but the drinks are very weak and honestly expensive for what they are and for a dive bar. it has always reeked of pee. the music is painfully quiet and even on a saturday night the atmosphere feels awkward, sad, and stale, the music needs to be louder. it almost feels like a library with 2 pool tables. for a lounge connected to a chinese food restaurant, to not serve actual chinese food once the restaurant is closed and its just the lounge open is just a waste. after like 10 or so they only serve microwave corndogs and other really random food, they dont have fries or onion rings or other normal bar foods. its a really odd space that has a TON of potential if it were completely staffed, served stronger drinks, and had chinese food available throughout the night. also open til 2am which is GREAT especially for the area. cant imagine this place will be around longer with how its staffed unfortunately. read more

I have never encountered chow mein like this in my life. First of all, by any definition, noodles fried or sautéed, this is not chow mein. It is horrific and disgusting, and I don't know how they can possibly feel OK presenting it to a customer. It is a few pea pods, a little bit of onion, and a bunch of beans sprouts in a slimy sauce, with a few gross fried noodles on the side. That's it. My kids liked the orange chicken and sautéed broccoli and fried rice, but I can't forgive them for this disgusting chow mein. read more

The soda was good, which is always a plus for me. My friends enjoyed their food. The customer service was pretty good. Absolutely amazing fried rice! The kitchen is only open select hours but the food is well worth it.

Okay, so I am kind of a Chinese food snob - but not in the way you think. I like cheap chinese. The greasy, crunchy, sweet and sour encrusted chinese. The kind of stuff you get at the mom and pop place down the street with GIANT portions and people that actually speak Chinese. This place hits it. Since I've moved to the west side, I've only found one other place - way out where Hillsboro meets Cornelius - and Wan Q is wicked close to me. We got a number 10 with sweet and sour chicken instead of mar far chicken (because... sweet and sour!!), and my husband got an order of pork fried rice and safroon noodles. My number 10 was AH-MAZIN. Like the kind of amazing where you can only groan, and not make any words. The sweet and sour chicken was tender, all white mean chicken breast and not overly doused in sauce!! The chicken sub gum chow mein was to DIE for. And I'm snobby about chow men and rice. OMG, the rice. Hands down the best pork fried rice in town. HANDS DOWN PEOPLE. It's been years since I've been to Wan Q and we always loved the food. For this visit though, we were very disappointed in both the food and service. Usually we get large portions served to us in our combo plates, but not this time. The sweet and sour sauce was runny and not that tasty. The restaurant, i give 4 stars. The food is fabulous, though slow to arrive, the service is great, & the drinks are quite tasty. We decided to change it up and go to the lounge (back side), and we wont do that again. It was early, they hadnt been open long, the food took just as long (which is what we were curious about) but the bar was horrible. A loud "regular" who's primary word is the f bomb, the server was nice but brought us a fashionable manhattan when we ordered an old fashioned. No, lemon and lime are not muddled into an old fashioned! Ive been to lots of bars, dive and otherwise... The biggest blech was the drinks. My family ordered dinner tonight via Doordash. I'm not taking in to account the extreme $12 fee, just the quality of food we received. First, we were missing an item - That speaks poorly for Wan Q's quality control. Sucks for us, because we only ordered 3 items. Next, the fried rice that came with the sweet and sour chicken was foul! My wife and I both took a bite, looked oddly at each other and were concerned we'd be sick if we ate more. It went in the trash. The pot stickers were ok, but underdone. The experience was just bad. We ate what we could and were left hungry. Sucks to spend $50 for bad food and have to find something else to fill us for dinner. I do not recommend Wan Q and do not understand the positive reviews. I was a regular at the old location for many, many years. Glad to see them open again. The menu is basically the same. The food is good although not outstanding. Their lunch prices used to be an excellent value but they raised their prices since moving so they are now in the more pricey range. I suppose they know their market but I wish they would resume the ~ $5 lunches again. It's worth a couple of bucks more to see Chi's dimples though :) read more

I am housesitting on other side of town, so checked Doordash for Chinese. Wan Q came up. I ordered the combo #10: pork fried rice, almond chicken subgum, bbq pork, and mar far chicken. Ordered side of fried shrimp. I got a msg from door dash that there was a mixup and the restaurant didnt get my delivery order, but he put it in for me. My food still arrived on time. Ohhhhh how i have missed good Chinese-American food!!! Everything on the other side of Beaverton is just sub-par. And crappy at doing delivery. Not here- all piping hot. I got utensils, napkins, plenty of soy sauce, red sauce and chinese mustard (happens to be left out of the bag alot with other places just being cheap). Better yet, the fry on the shrimp and chicken- fresh and crispy, the oil used you could tell was clean, not old. And dang! To finally have good cooked vegetables in almond chicken subgum again! And plenty of meat and nuts used. And again- yes im raving about simple pork fried rice, but when its cooked right and has egg, green onions, peas, etc and again, is fresh, it makes a difference! My husband and I were in the mood for Chinese, but we are new to the area, so we went directly to Yelp. After reading menus and reviews alike, we decided on Wan Q. I'm so very glad we did. This restaurant reminds me of my favorite Chinese restaurants in my hometown. Our takeout order: Broccoli and BBQ Pork was spot on. The pork was flavorful and didn't taste as processed as the pork I've gotten in many other restaurants. The broccoli was perfectly crisp even after the car ride home. General Tso's Chicken not as crisp as I expected but still very good. Wan Q's version isn't greasy like some other restaurants and the dish had the perfect amount of heat. Chicken Subgum Chow Mein with Pan Fried. oodles was my favorite dish of the order. It reminds me of a style of chow mein I loved eating at a hometown restaurants as a young boy. Subgum is a mixture of meat and vegetables. The chicken was velvety and was mixed with celery, water chestnuts, peas, carrots, onions and mushrooms in a thick sauce. There is a fair amount of celery, but it makes the dish very fresh and light. The noodles were different than I expected but they were delicious anyway. The food was perfectly hot and vegetables wonderfully crisp after 20 minutes. Our order was finished quickly even though the kitchen was working on multiple orders for a party in their back room. This place could be great--awesome bar, and food is delicious when the staff is in good communication with the kitchen. I've worked at a Chinese restaurant before and I do understand there is a language barrier sometimes. But spring rolls don't have meat in them--and that's what I got. Asked for veggie chow mein as a substitute for pork--kitchen couldn't do it; that's fine, but don't serve me the pork chow mein when I didn't want it and then charge me for it. Good customer service would dictate that you knock a drink off my tab or offer another option up. May give it a try in the future? Maybe when we figure out a decent relationship with the staff here and they're a little more attentive. read more
