It's a lounge. It's a bar. It's a game room. It's a restaurant. The Silver Birch wears a lot of hats and I guess, depending on your mood, that's a good thing. I'll speak to the lounge/bar part here, which also has several different sides. First, the bar is your standard, modern-looking L-shaped counter, a bunch of stools, etc. it's not quite divey -- seems like it's aspiring to greater heights, though the dimly-lit tables and booths on the other side of the room would beg to differ. There are other tables out in the open, near the big window, better lit and with more of a restaurant vibe. It's all good; you got a nice happy hour, and above- average food for any bar or pub (hence the Kitchen) in the vicinity. The bartenders have all been spot-on, attentive but not pushy and a joy at happy hour. And yep, the chow I've had here to date has been resoundingly tasty, with the cod fish tacos (three) served up nicely slathered with lines of crema and paired with lots of avocado slices. Nice. Hummus plate was a winner too, the fresh hummus working against a nice, robust mix of fresh veggies. Plenty of food here. This is from the regular menu, which also sports a lot of familiar entries --- burgers, wraps, salads, fish and chips, even vegetarian options. Im down with this side of the Silver Birch; the actual kitchen/restaurant looks like it's on the other side of building (separate), so I can't speak to that but I would like to try it sometime. In any case, I like the joint better now than what it used to be, which was a Chinese restaurant; it's airier and lighter and has a better menu. There's karaoke, and the game room has plenty of entertainment. Also, it's located right on a roundabout, so getting into the small on-site parking lot can be a bit tricky. read more

Silver Birch Kitchen Lounge exceeded my expectations. I did not have high hopes for a bar serving breakfast. However, the food had flare! We split an avocado toast and a burrito. The avocado toast had complex flavors with a little kick. The breakfast burrito was hardy, yet not overcomplicated. You can't get a latte here, but I'm sure they could accommodate a boozy brunch. read more

We really enjoyed brunch here! It has tons of space so it's nice not being cramped as is in a lot of places in Portland. We ordered the French toast, avocado toast and sides of eggs, ham and hash browns. The avocado toast was really delicious with their secret birch sauce elevating it to a whole other level. I was so full from the first slice, I couldn't even finish the dish. The eggs were well made and the hash brown could have benefited from some salt but it wasn't anything we couldn't fix. The husband had no complaints for the French toast but he didn't sing any praises either. I don't think we will be ordering this dish a second time but the menu is full of many great options! In conclusion, great food, would definitely visit again. I'm in particular interested in their regular menu as it contains some superb vegan options. read more

Stopped by for late Sunday breakfast. The Eggs Benedict were delish. ( Although we kind of wished the English muffin was toasted a bit more -- but it was still yummy). Great outdoor seating. Nice to have a place to go to for interesting brunch food in the area! The menu is modest in breadth, but they have some interesting dishes. 5 of us came for brunch a week or so ago and had a good experience. Service was good and the ambiance was relaxed, clean and comfortable. It was nice to be able to order an adult beverage with brunch! My wife had the veggie hash (see photo) which she judged excellent. I had the Vito's benedict and I thought the ham was not quite up to par. A nice local neighborhood restaurant in the area. The interior is very spacious with a section for families, a bar area, and outside seating. The place has a few tvs with sports playing, which was nice. We ordered a good amount of items and shared the majority of them. The wings, steak bites, glazed pork belly, Brussel sprouts, nachos, parmesan truffle fries, cheeseburger, and chicken strips were some of the items we ordered. I enjoyed the wings and glazed pork belly the most, followed by the steak bites and wings. The service was friendly and attentive. Overall, a good place to come with a group of people. read more

Cute dinning room and comfy booths - we had the entire dinning room to ourselves and we could hear the live band that was playing in the lounge - which made for a fun experience. We gave this place a try for brunch. It had been heralded as a place with a lot of space. This was not the case. There is large bar area that may have space but the main dining room is an afterthought. That space is mostly occupied by a pool table & shuffleboard table. Food was OK, coffee not so much. I enjoyed the croissant sandwich. Probably great for drinks and bar food, but not trying again for brunch. read more

Really nice fresh re-do of an old divey Chinese restaurant that I still miss. This place passed the leftover test.... my omelet and country potatoes were just as good the next day as the morning it was served fresh! The westside is so starved for a convenient breakfast spot, and this is a new shiny beacon for me. The service was amazing, and I felt like this could be my new neighborhood haunt. The happy hour menu will definitely bring me back. The bar itself has not changed a bit, so if you like things dark and moody with neon beer signs, there you are. The breakfast menu has something for everyone with an American focus, and fresh ingredients. The country potatoes were more flavorful than the country gravy, which is good for the potatoes, but not so much for the gravy. The gravy honestly still tasted of raw flour, so I'm hoping it tastes better later in the morning, as I was there first thing. The interior is such un upgrade on the dining side. I understand the new owner has a tile business, and it shows....except in the bathroom. Hubs visited the men's room and reported back that there are truck stops with much better smelling and looking bathrooms. This is why I take one star away. read more

It's been a long time since I found a restaurant as good as Silver Birch. Three of us ate in the bar by the large windows. We all ordered different dishes which were wonderful. The bartender waited on us. He was attentive and checked in a few times to see if we needed anything. There were two tables for six if you had a large group. The price for food and drinks we very reasonable. As a vegetarian I appreciate that they had a few dishes marked as vegan/vegetarian. I would highly recommend going to Silver Birch. They also have bingo, karaoke, screens for sports events, pool and special events such as comedy acts. read more

This new restaurant/bar is great! The dining room is kid friendly. They do a nice breakfast/brunch menu on Saturdays/Sundays. They have an amazing make your own custom Bloody Mary bar on Sundays. The food is great and the service is super friendly. The restaurant is super clean as well. The new owners have really cleaned it up. The bar area has lots of great TV's for watching sports. They have the NFL ticket package with ALL games playing on Sundays. Do yourself a favor and give them a try. You will not be disappointed. read more

We went in at 4pm on a Friday. We ordered Fish Tacos. The fish was old, very fishy tasting. The fish was bad, but the service was worse. There were two bartenders and a server from the restaurant. They were all talking behind the bar. We waved, raised our hands, we just could not get their attention. The Bar was not that busy. We finally had to go to the bar to settle our bill. The ambience is great! Perfect for all different types of occasions. The bar is great to watch football and have play pool. The outdoor patio is a great place to bring your furry best friend and dinning room is great for families. Food is amazing with many healthy options and it's very reasonable price.
