My jogging stroller had a flat and my mommy friends had referred me to the city... That's an awfully long drive for a wheel that needs to be fixed, so I was excited to hear that the local bike shop did jogging strollers, too! I was able to have it repaired in 10 minutes and even got some good recommendations on cycling shoes for my spin class- even though they directed me outside of their store. The staff helped me carry out my stroller and load in my car, since I had the baby with me; the only reason I wouldn't give this place 5 was because it was a little pricier than I was hoping for. read more

Apparently the policy of this place is that if you want to get a tune-up, you leave your bike there until they can get around to it, which today they projected to be about three weeks from now. You can't just bring your bike in on the day that they have an opening to fix it because "they've had too many people make reservations and then not show up". I bought a bike from this shop this year that was advertised as coming with a free tune-up within the first year, but since I commute to work via bike and don't want to be without it for three weeks, this is completely useless to me. No one I've talked to there seems to have any interest at all in coming up with a solution for this, and it has left me extremely frustrated. I work right down the road from them and could easily bring my bike in at any time, but their crazy policy would require me to give up riding for weeks for no reason. I had a fine experience buying this bike from them but I don't think I'll be doing any more business here. read more

Giving this place a 3 star and they should go to a young mechanic by the name of Mariano. First staff member I ran into is Tim. Seemed rude and off putting. I asked questions and he kept it short and simple. No follow up or suggestion to my needs. Came back because I was in Sunnyvale for a week long sales convention and like supporting Local bike shops. Next day i brought my bike in for a flat the Kid who was working on my bike put the rear wheel on crooked and rim kept hitting brakes. They called over for Mariano. Mariano walked over readjusted everything and went back to his work station. Been here a few times while I'm in the city and always hear Marianos name tossed around. "Mariano will be with you in just a sec" "I'm not too sure let me ask Mariano" "Mariano will know what to do". Place should be name Marianos. read more

I usually can't be bothered to leave reviews, but I had such a great experience with Bill and Mariano that I wanted to give them a shoutout. I'm new to biking and had recently bought a used bike that clicked while riding and also had a lopsided bumping motion. I took it to Walt's to get it checked out. Bill and Mariano took the time to explain what was wrong and had it fixed in less than half an hour! They said that they would try to tighten the bottom bracket to see if it would solve the clicking sound; if not, it would need to be replaced (~4x the cost of tightening). Even though I clearly knew nothing about bikes, they didn't try to upsell me by insisting on a replacement, which I appreciated. The bumping motion was caused by a flat+offset tire. They fixed that for me at no additional charge. Thanks for the great service :) This is now my go-to bike shop and I will definitely be back in the future. read more

Not as local to me as other LBS's I've frequented over the years, but this is a pretty special shop. Staffed by the family who owns it, and other long-time staff, rather than younger, more temporal staff who don't know as much and don't have as much invested in the shop. One thing that really blows me away about Walt's is their selection of products and parts that are not high-volume sellers. Apparently because they just simply want to stock a wider variety of things, and options. There are some things I normally see in bike shops that Walt's doesn't sell, but all that stuff is easy to source. What I find amazing about Walt's is the selection of stuff that one can't count on finding in a bike shop, much less with the sort of variety that Walt's offers. Not just brick-and-mortar bike shops, but even many online bike "stores" don't have the selection Walt's has on some things. Rear-view mirrors, for example, are contained in a small area of rack space but Walt's has at least a dozen different options for bar-end mirrors. And maybe half a dozen helmet-mount options. Looking at kickstands, I found something like a dozen+ different options. They also have a lot of choices in fenders, racks, grips, handlebars, bike storage. All sorts of stuff. One of the few bike shops still around where it's a real pleasure to browse around. Just a little dangerous on the wallet, because you're pretty much guaranteed to come across various things that you didn't know you wanted, or needed, until you saw them. I originally stopped by to pick up a new helmet for my son, and ended up with a big pile of other stuff: new grips, a replacement 9-speed Shimano road chain, a double kickstand, a new bottle cage for one of my bikes in a specific color, a little baggie of cable ferrule caps, and a couple of safety flags. And also came away with some good advice on how to set up brakes on my son's bike. Looking forward to having an excuse to visit again. read more

Stopped by this morning to get a helmet for myself. Not only did I walk out with a helmet, but I also learned a ton! An older gentleman helped me find a helmet that fit my head, and offered explications on what type of protection each one offered. He was also kind enough to fit it to my head to make sure I was properly wearing it. When we were leaving he was so nice and grabbed some stickers for my kiddos (who weren't the quietest of customers). I will 100% be back for all future bike needs. read more

Awesome place! Found what we wanted quick and Mark helped us from beginning to end. He's also a charming and endearing gentleman. He had many stories and he made my husband and I smile and laugh the whole time. Mark gets 10 stars!!! Minus the one star for the overall atmosphere and dynamic of the employees with one another while us and other customers were there. They were all screaming at each other in front of customers and it made it awkward, Haha. They were focused on each customer, it's just kinda sad they yell each other while people are around. Mark was a sweetie though! Silly guy. Decent prices. Quality bikes. Small parking space, but never crowded. Helpful as soon as you walk into the door. Lots of inventory. I try this place once every couple years in the hopes that they've improved because it's close. They haven't. I find the salesmen a bit derogatory. The mechanics also seem offputting, if they even talk to you. I try to be open and let them also know I'm not a noob. I've probably walked out of this place 4 out of 5 times because the staff doesn't seem interested. I usually end up driving to Cardinal or Bike Connection. Most recently went in to fix something simple in my daughters bike. They looked at it briefly and said I should buy her a new bike. They had one for $300. Within 5 minutes of talking. My daughter was still on training wheels at the time. I pushed back for more information about repair, and sales quoted $100. Further pushing they guy explained it was $20 part and $80 labor. I could work with that, it was a start, though took pulling teeth to get there. I pushed for more info, what the part was specifically (I had looked online but didn't find it hence going to this shop). He told me it would take him 2 weeks just to find it. Ok. That's usually shop speak for "I don't want your business." I ping my buddy who used to be a bike mechanic. Confirmed BS, the part should be standard and in the catalog every bike shop has. I walk out of Cardinal 45 min later (a 30min drive) with her bike fixed for $10. The guy fixed the existing part in an ingenious way. I tried to pay him more, but they wouldn't take it. No tips, just new pedals. I ended up buying a few more add-ins just to give them money. I'm always terrified they'll go out of business. Maybe that's why Walt's wants to sell you $300 bikes instead of doing the $10 fix. And my daughter was off the training wheels that very weekend since I got it fixed. I've come into the store 3 times in the last two weeks for various reasons. Most recently I came in to purchase a new bike since my old bike was stolen. I felt silly and upset that had happened to me, but when I told the staff they were understanding and sympathetic to the situation. They helped me find a new and better bike and outfit it with all the bells and whistles that I had on my old bike. They gave me tips and advice to make sure that wouldn't happen to me again. They turned my nightmare situation into a true blessing and it really made my day. The staff here is so knowledgeable and willing to help me find exactly what I was looking for. He racked the bike and started looking at it, i thought he would be fixing it in the spot. He tightened a screw on the front. Then he told us we would need to come back the next day, so i explained that kids wanted to bike today and that we would need the bikes. I ventured in here about a decade ago because they carried Trek mountain bikes, my preferred brand. Also because my cousin referred me to this place and my brother purchased a bike from them. After that first visit, I've been coming back periodically for obvious reasons... They carry almost everything bike-related...even some accessories that you cannot find at chain sporting goods stores. Prices have always been reasonable. I recently took advantage of one of their rare deals, saving hundreds of dollars. Throughout the years, I've learned how much more reliable and helpful this local bike shop is compared to others. Staff are knowledgeable, catering to any question I have about a new bike, bike parts, or services. I'm glad they still carry Trek mountain bikes, and the new ones make me giddy. So tempted to upgrade, but dreaming is fine for now. I've been interested in road bikes for a while, and I'm thankful the guys at Walt's introduced me to their line of Raleigh bikes. With their expertise, the aforementioned deal, and a carbon frame, the decision to purchase was a no-brainer. When shopping for bikes, do your homework...visit a handful of bike shops and sporting goods stores for more information, pricing, and test rides. Walt's should be on that list of bike shops. I really wanted to support my local community during these pandemic times and went today to buy a support bike for my toddler, however, the young blonde girl helping us had such a bad attitude, that we literally walked out with very mixed feelings. I'm not expecting any over-the-top treatment, but the support staff should at the very minimum answer questions with more than a yes/no response. I still support Walt's cycles, and will look to them for my future needs, but will not going back to that saleswomen. For now, Amazon won my business for my toddler's bike :( read more

However, I found out it is not the same as the official website specs when I get home and check the details. I found this place from Yelp of course and was eager to find my bike! I'm eagerly wanting to bike to and from work but hopefully this rain will subside. Plenty of parking outfit- near downtown Sunnyvale. I was happily greeted by a young lady asking what I was looking for. I have an idea of what type of bike I want, what features I need, and the price range. Unfortunately the bike she showed me was not what I wanted to spend so she offered the used bike option which was great. There was a cute pink mountain bike for 150 bucks and they let me sit on it to see how comfortable and let me know that used bikes were final sale but if there is anything wrong with it I could bring it back so they can check it out. The bike was 6 or 7 years old. I eventually found out the young ladies name is Michelle and someone else that answered a few of my bike questions was named Jim. They have everything you need about bikes- lots of baskets, bells, lights, gear, etc. Its all on the pricey side to me. The used bike was 150 to 180 and the new ones were about 300 and up. The ones that I liked anyway. I will be back for accessories or tune ups but most likely buy my bike somewhere else just because I only need it to go from point A to point B and not anything super crazy. I had good vibes about this place the minute I walked in with my son. I was in the market looking for a bike that my son can grow into, as well as upgraded bikes for my daughters and for myself as well. Michelle Poole was our saleslady and she was able to find us the right bike for what we needed them for. She pointed us to a nice Trek MT-200 that my son absolutely fell in love with almost instantly. I thought the bike would be a little big for him, but the rule of thumb is that if your tippy-toes can reach the ground while sitting on your seat, it's the right sized bike for you. My daughters were not with me at the time, but I told her that we would be doing some trail riding and she recommended the Raleigh Women's Venture Comfort bikes. I told Michelle we would be back to the store the next day and she was cool with that. The next day, we returned with all the kids this time. Michelle was very patient with my kids and allowed all of us to test ride the bicycles one at a time in their parking lot. My son and daughters absolutely loved the bikes Michelle recommended and we decided to purchase them. Now came the ultimate test- Daddy's bike- Trek FX. Michelle recommended me to test ride the 7.1 & 7.5 FX's. The 7.5 had higher-quality shifters and pedals and was more for the serious rider. It was nice, super-light, but out of my price range. The 7.1 was a little too novice for me. After pondering around the store and thinking about it some time, I came across a really nice Blue 7.2FX up in the racks. It was on sale for $50 less than retail. After the test ride, I immediately knew this was the bike for me. Overall experience was awesome!!. The price was within my budget for the quality bikes I paid for. The kids felt at home and no one seemed to mind while they played around with the horns and bells, trying out the 3 wheeled bikes and getting themselves acquainted with the store. Michelle also helped the kids pick out the correct sized helmets and colors they wanted. The transaction was smooth and I learned a lot of things from Michelle, who was very knowledgeable and sharing info about the bikes we purchased and to remember to bring them back for their yearly tune-up. She even threw-in free water cages for all the bikes as well as the matching water bottles as well. I felt like a kid in a candy store all over again. It was my first time back in a bike store since I was 10-12 years old. I'm hoping the kids will remember this experience the same way I did when my dad first brought me in for my BMX Peugeot. We took the bikes to Shoreline and the round-trip through the Stevens Creek Trail was 7.6 miles. No problems on the bikes except all of us had sore butts from new seats. LOL!! My love for riding bikes have been renewed once again and I'm hoping the kids can appreciate and take care of their new bikes as well. I recently bought a bicycle and started commuting with it, and the folks at Walt's have been so helpful. I've been in and out of there at least a dozen times in the process of gearing up, usually buying nothing but asking a lot of questions, and they've been exceptionally helpful. They carry a great array of products to recommend, and it's well worth paying a couple bucks extra to get the benefit of their expertise and the chance to see the hardware in person. They're not pushy, which is a pleasure for someone like me who needs to chew on a decision for a few days. And, if you buy new bike gear they'll help install it and make sure everything is set. I recommend going during the workweek if possible, since they have more time then and you won't have to compete with the crowds. read more

After shopping around and getting some competitive pricing on comparable bikes, and learning about the ins and outs of the bikes, I found that Walts had the best bang for my buck. What a terrible place with poor customer service. I really wanted to like this place since its close and I'm all for supporting small businesses; however, I've about had it with this place after visiting three separate occasions and having a poor experience each time. First of all, there's a no return or no test ride policy as of June 2020. I do not know what the case is outside of pandemic season, but this was a big deal for someone looking to buy a brand new bike. The last time my boyfriend wanted to check out a mountain bike. We were paired with this tall teenager with short hair and glasses. He asks my boyfriend how tall my boyfriend is, then looks at a chart stating, "hes probably an XL." I mean I think anyone with real expertise could tell that someone 6'4 is an XL. They've been very low with stock in the recent months due to increased demand. The kid goes into the back to check for stock and says to us, "Please don't touch anything while I'm gone." Okay sure.. Covid is still existent and thriving, I get it. Weird for you to say that to a customer however. Unsurprisingly, the kid says there's nothing in stock. Then I go on and venture towards accessories for my bike. I find something I was interested in buying. The kid comes up behind me and SNATCHES IT FROM MY HAND. Stating, "Yeah... I would really appreciate if you didn't touch anything, because of covid and all..." Absolutely ridiculous. I understand that we have to take our precautions to prevent the spread of covid, but that's just outright rude-- whether we are in a middle of a pandemic or not. I do not know what kind of business these people are trying to run if they consistently have poor customer service, a severe lack of stock, and an awful return policy. Save yourself a headache and go to a different bike shop. Cupertino Bike Shop, Trailhead Cyclery, and Bike Connection in Palo Alto are better. read more

I felt they had a really good selection at prices and knowledges for people like me that dont know anything about bike components etc. The service was outstanding. We had 2-3 people that greeted us which was amazing! . . The first person that greeted us from the get go as we entered the store was a look alike young Steve Job LOL! Sorry I forgot his name. He was extremely helpful in suggesting and recommending us two style of bicycles for my daughters. He spent so much time with us describing the products, and was enthusiastic the entire time. I shopped around a few bike shops before I came here and this was by far the most down to earth with the best selection. Christine was so helpful & knowledgable and Jim made the adjustments quickly for a great deal. I went in today to pick up a flat tire kit and I overheard him patiently explaining to the nice man that asked him the difference between them and Costco. Even though I've ridden bicycles all my life, mostly beach cruisers, I still consider myself very much an amateur, but I've always purchased from a specialty bike shop. If it were just about getting the lowest price then sure, Costco or Walmart but it's not quality, often not even properly built and unlikely to go the distance. Most people want something that is quality and will last which will create so much more value for you in the long run. At Walt's they have a huge selection, a knowledgable team that will listen to you and help you find something that suits your needs. They will advise you on the size you need, the safety features you need, even where to ride if they aren't too busy. This is a wonderful small business. By purchasing here, you are supporting people in our community not some big corporation. You may not even realize the person helping you or tuning up your bike, is the owner. read more

Showed little interest in helping with bike selection, grilled me on which company I worked at, compared my asking if there are sales to getting a paycheck cut at work, said "this is what you're doing to me".
