Our intent is to stay in the Mountain ViewCA-USA community, and all of us cycling around this bike-friendly area, specifically to the Google museum and cafe. Unfortunately, there are few places that actually rent bikes, and the Bay Area ceased a bike-share program some time ago because it was too expensive and was abused. Too bad; we had rented the bikes several years ago during a visit, and thought it would be useful again. Oh, well, this issue was finally resolved through my most favorite #1 son volunteered his upright tandem to be used. Anyway, if I lived closer to Mike's Bikes, I'd definitely patronize that obviously wonderful shop!

The manufacturer did not have a replacement wheel ready in time for my trip. They ended up sending a replacement rim to the store instead. The bicycle outfitter guys then built up the wheel and replaced it on my bike for free. This was above and beyond what I was expecting, so many kudos for great service.

It was really easy to order online and pick up from the shop (ready same day). They were really efficient and friendly during pickup and didn't give me a hard time that I was trying to do my own maintenance (yes, some shops are a bit snobby about this). I even joked that they may see me in there for a brake bleeding job if it goes poorly which I appreciated. I ordered a large container given several of us will be bleeding the brakes, but I appreciate the caution he gave me about storing the mineral oil and making sure air didn't get in it. This is a great neighborhood shop, and I'm happy to support them! There's also a ton of parking which makes me like them even more.

My 80-year-old father came here THREE different times for the same flat tire issue. The front staff, especially Wilson, were respectful and tried to take care of him by applying a small $12 courtesy discount for being a returning customer. Then service manager "Dylan" stepped in and removed the discount because the bike "isn't a mountain bike" and this is a "performance shop." Let that sink in. An 80-year-old senior citizen, returning multiple times for the SAME issue, gets treated differently because his bike supposedly isn't good enough for their shop. That tells you everything you need to know about this business. The employees seem decent, but management clearly values squeezing every dollar out of customers more than basic human decency, loyalty, or respect for seniors. If they're willing to embarrass and nickel-and-dime an elderly customer over $12, imagine how they'll treat everyone else once they already have your business. There are plenty of bike shops in the Bay Area that actually appreciate customers. This is not one of them. We will never return and strongly recommend others think twice before spending money here.

I was helped by a very knowledgeable guy named Andy. He put my bike up and had it sorted in 5 minutes. I then remembered I wanted a new side mirror. This review is specifically for the owner Fred. Being a customer of here for almost 10 years I want…read moreto say that this review is not based on a one-time experience. My brother and dad stopped coming to this bike shop many years ago when they both felt that they were being judged when they were looking at the bikes in the store. They insisted that the Asian guy with the ponytail never greeted them when they entered the store and he would just stare at them. I always try to look for the good in people so I brushed it off and proceeded to buy not one, not two, but three bikes from this store over the years. Here is the thing about Fred. He treats you with some sort of decency when he knows you're interested in buying something from his store. However, when there is no money going into his pockets that is when you will see his true colors. To put it plainly, he is condescending when he talks to you because he probably believes he knows more about bikes than 99% of the people that walk into the store. You can also tell that it has been a long time since he has been put in check by the way he talks down on his customers. I bought a Tarmac in 2023 from the website SPECIALIZED.COM because Fred did not have that model in stock. When I asked one of his workers if they could order it, he said they could not because it was not available. The website however did have it in stock. One of their options is to have it delivered to one of the local bike shops that carries Specialized bikes. What Fred does not want people to know is that as a bike shop that sells Specialized bikes, he is obligated to build any bike that is bought from the website and delivered to his store. I also bought carbon rims from the website since they offer 15% off for first time customers. When I came to pick up the bike and the rims, he literally yelled "I am not making any money!" That is when I knew what he was all about. For me, that was the last straw. I will never spend another dollar here. To be honest, this store would be much better if Fred never spoke to the customers directly. For the most part, Tina the manager, the sales staff and the mechanics all do a good job. Even the previous staff with Camacho and the manager Scott knew how to treat the customers. Fred may know more about bikes than his staff but he does not know how to talk to customers. I also heard that the previous staff pre-pandemic were all let go due to missing inventory. I am not saying that stealing is right. However, if you treat customers and your staff poorly, then it will come back to bite you. Karma is real. One last word of advice is to ALWAYS get a second opinion from another bike shop when Fred tells you what your bike needs. I found out what he suggested with my brake lines was not altogether necessary and would have cost me more than double had I followed through with his advice.
