Had a set of wheels I kept saying I would replace the spoke nipples on (two broke on their own...sigh). Got a rebuild quote for the pair for around $250, couldn't pass it up. A couple weeks later, got them back good as new. Hard to complain when proper tools alone are more than this, and it takes several hours to true.

Interior: short wait while Andy installs the new seat

I've got over a half-century cycling experience (both commuting & touring) and have learned that, while I can make repairs on the road, the best work is by those people behind the counter as they have the right tools and knowledge about virtually anything on two wheels (or three, if a Tryke!), especially if they carry your specific make. I have had the opportunity to become acquainted with various techs over the years, and will always seek out their expertise with aspects that are my weakness (e.g., rebuilding/respoking/truing/balancing wheels). Since reTIREDment 31DEC2017, I've continued my World (bike) tour, regularly renting bikes in different countries, but COVID has forced me to stay domestic (Including the two great countries immediately South (¡MAGNIFICENT MEXICO!) and North (¡MAGNIFICENT CANADA!) and within the past ~year, relocating from my El PasoTX-USA home to be close to grandchildren. After a year in HoustonTX-USA, they returned to the Bay Area a fortnight ago, and we now live about three blocks away. I spilled so much information to explain my biking philosophy/strategy. Whether in El Paso/Houston/or Mountain ViewCA-USA, one of the first things I do is find a reliable shop with knowledgeable staff. I've been extremely fortunate to find such a shop within a half-hour's cycle: WALT'S CYCLES [116 Carroll Street, SunnyvaleCA 94986 USA; 408.739.4287;waltscycle.com] My first clue at how great this shop is is the name; Walt's Cycles. That is the same name of the high quality bike shop that catered to me in ColumbiaMO-USA, where I finished up my undergraduate degree over 40 years ago! So, a few days ago, I was out cycling around the area and ventured into this shop while in adjacent Sunnyvale. I was agog at the multitude of bikes & related material! Head honcho Gilbert oriented me on some specific items (replacement seat/covers for my much better half's Haro), but I knew she needed to decide--it has taken decades together for me to learn that my decision would be wrong, regardless of intention! The following day, both of us cycled there, following one of my "creative routes" (guaranteed to upset anybody who prefers strictly point A to point B, particularly if google maps-directed), but Andy quickly calmed her anxieties with a perfect sales pitch, fantastically quick service, and a price that couldn't be beat! We made excellent time back to Mountain View on the superbly smooth (97%) Evelyn Road. So this morning, for the third consecutive day, I mentioned the need to get a cable cut but not having the right precision clipper to do it. However, I knew WALT'S CYCLE had the perfect cable cutter and, as long as I wasn't TOO creative, we made good time. I (gimp)walked in, pushing my "FrankenBike", and met tech ANGELINA, who made very quick work of isolating the excess brake cable. I am so happy to have had the good fortune of finding a top-notch cycle shop so quickly upon establishing a temporary home here by the bay. Sometimes it takes trial-and-error, but not this time; I definitely recommend WALT'S CYCLE, and it certainly has my coveted "¡Wheel of Approval!"

Pricier than most bike places around, go here if you agree to pay more (and hear everything they have to say to convince you).

Do you buy used bike parts in good/acceptable condition?

Sorry, we do not. I can't think of a place that does besides eBay.

Hello, may I ask do you guys do tire replacement for a Jetson Electronic bike with size 14x2.125? If so, how much is the service? Thank you so much for answering!

Xiaokai, Yes we can change your tube for you. Just bring the bike in and we can set a time up for you.…

Does this location offer bike rentals?

Lily, We are sorry to say that we do not rent bikes at this time. Thank you for thinking about us.…

We booked the bike about a week in advance for a full day for $65, and it was ready for pickup when we arrived. The staff did a safety inspection and let us know that helmets are included with the rental and that we could return the bike to any Sports Basement location. My friend also asked if they could leave their backpack there, and the staff kept it behind the desk, which was really nice. The bike was in good condition! We rode it for 4-5 hours with no issues. A few things I wanted to point out - the seat was pretty narrow and hard, which made it uncomfortable to sit on. It had been a while since I last biked, so I'm not sure if I just need to wear padded shorts or if the seat wasn't the right fit for me. Another thing is that I couldn't sit in the front because the seat was too tall for me to comfortably reach the pedals, and there didn't seem to be an easy way to adjust the height. Lastly, it would've been nice to have a phone mount on the handlebar for navigation. We turned in the bike at the end of the day. Overall, the process was very smooth, the staff were friendly, and the rental was affordable. I would do it again, but I'd wear padded shorts next time :)

Updated review, but same great experience at Sports Basement!…read more I went with my son to purchase a new bicycle and had a great experience. We went not completely sure which bike we wanted or the best fit. The staff working was very informative and spent a lot of time explaining options and tradeoffs. I appreciate they didn't just push us to the most expensive options. Rather, they took the time to understand his preferences and use for the bike and then made a few recommendations. They were very patient the entire time, letting him test ride multiple bikes until he found the perfect one. We had such a great experience that we went back to purchase a second bike later that evening!

Very knowledgeable, cool, and super friendly . . . no weird attitudes, just a shop for riders - by riders. So far as I can tell, this is one of the only shops in the entire Bay Area that specifically caters to trail riders. They also support the trails and do ride events for the community. Plus the demo program . . . top quality, all the way around!! Thank you THC!!!

I've bought most of my protective gear, clothing, shoes, bike accessories, and tools from this shop…read moreover the years. I've always had a great experience shopping here, and the owner has always been very nice, welcoming, and helpful. I've always considered this one of the best mountain bike shops in the Bay Area. Unfortunately, my experience yesterday, 09/13/26, was very disappointing. I was shopping with my 6-year-old son. He is on the autism spectrum and has ADHD, so he can be hyperactive and sometimes loud. As his parent, I understand his behavior and always do my best to manage him. However, the sales manager, Scot, repeatedly kept checking on my son and saying "excuse me" to me in a way that came across as rude, annoyed, and unnecessary. I also noticed him giving my son a hard glare. That really bothered me. He is a 6-year-old child, and I don't think a child should be made to feel unwelcome or uncomfortable simply because he is energetic or behaves differently. What makes this especially disappointing is that I've been a loyal customer for years and have spent a lot of my hard-earned money at this shop. I've always supported this business because I genuinely enjoyed shopping here and had such positive experiences in the past. I hope management takes this feedback seriously. Everyone deserves to be treated with patience and respect, including children with special needs. If my son is not welcome in this store, then I will gladly take my hard-earned money somewhere else. It's unfortunate that one experience has changed the way I feel about a shop I previously had such a high opinion of.

I was headed out to cycle and I noticed my front tire was flat. I called Mike's Bikes to see if…read morethey could fix it. The guy on the phone said to bring it in. I filled the tire with air and rode it half way before I had to stop and fill the tire again. It was just enough to make it there. I walked in and a guy yelled out, "are you the gal with the flat tire", I said, "yes", and he directed me to the repair guy. I was the only one in the shop. I don't know the repair guys name, but I noticed he was tall and handsome. He took my bike and started working on it. As I was waiting I looked around the store. There were a lot of nice clothes, helmets, and bikes there to choose from. I then talked to a guy named Tom. Nice fellow. My bike was done in no time. I wasn't in the shop longer than 10 minutes. The repair guy did a great job and I was on my way. The cost was reasonable. I highly recommend Mike's Bikes for sales and service.

Our intent is to stay in the Mountain ViewCA-USA community, and all of us cycling around this bike-friendly area, specifically to the Google museum and cafe. Unfortunately, there are few places that actually rent bikes, and the Bay Area ceased a bike-share program some time ago because it was too expensive and was abused. Too bad; we had rented the bikes several years ago during a visit, and thought it would be useful again. Oh, well, this issue was finally resolved through my most favorite #1 son volunteered his upright tandem to be used. Anyway, if I lived closer to Mike's Bikes, I'd definitely patronize that obviously wonderful shop!
