We have been going to Walter's for 40 years. We have taken it off our list of favorite places. They have gone steadily downhill the past few years. Absolutely worst service ever tonight and it's not because they were busy. We waited an Hour for dinner because they got one of our orders wrong and had to remake it When it finally came out, the other order was cold No apology from the waitress and the waitress never came back to ask if we wanted another drink We got a " sorry for your long wait" from the manager while we were waiting No comp on drink or anything. We visited Walter's for the first time. It is old school inside, with a lot of dark decor and furnishings. The staff is very friendly. We started with strawberry prosecco, which was described on the menu as garnished with strawberries. We had several, and none were garnished. We ordered the pork belly appetizer but it was not pork belly. It was just a slice of pork sitting on naan bread and it was very chewy. We ordered the Filet Edmund which was supposed to be filet mignonettes with crab meat and bearnaise sauce, and the Delmonico. The salads that came with the meals were mediocre. The tomatoes on my tomato and mozzarella salad were grocery-store tomatoes and not very good ones. The Caesar salad was just a plate of romaine. I expected the mignonettes to be 2 small filets, not chunks of filet, so they were overcooked and the bearnaise was just gravy. The crabmeat on the Filet Edmund was fantastic but not with gravy. The Delmonico was tasty but had some fat. None of it was bad, it was all just ok. We paid way too much for a just-ok steak dinner where several things weren't even what was described on the menu. read more

Went here for the first time on Christmas Eve! We were seated in the back, by the kitchen and had a server who only started a week ago so it wasn't a bad experience, just not what we expected for Christmas Eve. The server ended up being friendly and giving us time to enjoy our meals but initially, she kept asking us to order every 2-3 minutes and we were starting to feel rushed. Also, as soon as we sat down, the waitress let us know that they were out of baked potatoes, Mac and cheese, and French fries - which we found odd considering it was only 5:30 pm. All of the cocktails that we tried were very good! The Christmas mojito was our favorite - it didn't have muddled mint leaves in it which was so nice because sometime they get stuck in the straw! The espresso martini was also very good! For food, we started with the cheesesteak egg rolls and did not enjoy them. The meat tasted strange and the breading was way to thick to be an egg roll. The bread & salads were good - very fresh! We all had the 6 oz filet for our meals and enjoyed them. The cut of meat was high quality and all 3 of our steaks were cooked to the perfect temperature. The twice baked potatoes were a bit dry and lacked flavor. As for dessert, we tried the banana foster! It was okay, it didn't have much going on and the bananas tasted raw. Great spot in Wilmington. Cool old school feel in this place and it was located in a neighborhood with restaurants and pubs. I saw the pics of the prime rib and decided it was worth a shot. Different cheesesteak #1112 in the last five years. Monday night special $12 Prime Rib Sandwich. I paid the $1 for cheese and $2.99 for the twice baked potato. Summer Shandy drafts were $5. Walter's has a great old Steak House vibe. The prime rib was pretty darn close to melting in my mouth. The horseradish sauce added great flavor to everything it touched. $17 ($22 if you get 2 drafts) for a very good meal in a very nice place. Winner, winner, prime rib dinner. We have been to Walter's almost every weekend after Thanksgiving for the past five or six years. Walter has never let us down. I am not sure what happened, this last visit was so bad that I had to review. Sea Bass - rubber! Seriously, they served a fish smelling piece of rubber. I tasted it and could not even place the flavor. Horrible and uneditable, possibly the worst fish dish I have ever had. Delmonico - seriously overcooked thin piece of steak. How are they even calling this a Delmonico? Really, really epic fail. Our other family members got Prime Rib. Just overpriced average. In the past, the Prime Rib has been outstanding. I am not sure what is the deal, but this was a serious swing and miss. Oh well, win some - lose some. Walter's Steakhouse is a darkly paneled, old school steakhouse. I was home alone on Father's Day, so I thought I'd cheer myself by treating myself to a good steak dinner. Our Outback Steakhouse is a lousy restaurant and I'd had a good meal at Walter's last year. Seemed a safe bet I sat at the bar but had no view of the tv, I started scrolling through my phone. A Karen was sitting next to me and somehow through the din of the noisy bar could hear the audio of some reels as I rolled past them. She reprimanded me and turned away. Eventually a bartender got around to taking my order. I didn't mind the wait, but sitting next to this rude woman to whom I had failed to make a retort, made slow service interminable. Worst of all, the had filthy mouths and I had to sit there listening to them dropping the F bomb over and over again. They seemed to be regulars, asthe bartender didn't seem to mind their loud swearing nor did the owner who was nearby. I ordered onion soup which forever to be served. The bartender eventually explained that there was a backup. When it arrived it was barely warm, the onions were crunchy, and the cheese clearly hadn't seen the broiler. When my steak arrived it was over cooked, but I accepted it as I didn't war to wait for another. The twice-baked potato tasted old, and the béarnaise sauce for which I was charged $4 tasted thin and watery, like it was made from a mix powder. I get it that they were understaffed, but I find it really annoying when wait staff talk at me while walking past me without stopping to talk TO ME. This happened over and over ago again. Meanwhile the other bartender was fawning continuously over Karen and her vulgar husband. It's too bad, because Walter's seemed upon my first visit to be a reasonably priced local restaurant. I guess they deserve another chance. We'll see. I know $60 isn't much for a steak dinner, but I went out to feel better about being alone on my Father's Day, after spending the money I feel worse than if I'd just spent $10 at McDonald's. read more

Upon entering, it is dark and roomy. I was immediately seated and provided with a paper menu. I ordered a dirty martini, and it was delicious. I got the crab dip appetizer, and it was also good. The waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. The main course was the prime rib with crab imperial. Wow!! I know this is what Walters is known for, and boy was it good!! The ambiance, food, and drinks were top-notch. I am sorry I have not patronized this establishment a lot sooner. And to think of how long this excellent steakhouse has been in Wilmington! Walters is a very good steak and seafood restaurant in the Little Italy section of Wilmington. With the decline of so many of my favorite restaurants, we started going here in the last few years every so often and have not been disappointed. The service is always excellent whether we sit at the bar or at a table. I usually order the lobster tails which are always beautifully prepared. The twice baked potatoes are ridiculously sinful. The Chesapeake crab dip is delicious and light. The crostinis that accompany the dip are perfect. I try to avoid bread but whatever the bread they give here is so freaking good that I house it every time. My husband is very picky about his steak but he really does enjoy it here. There's not many places he will order a steak and pay good money for but here it is a no-brainer. I also love that entrees come with a decent size salad. You have a choice between a garden and a Caesar and both are very generous. Other restaurants you would need to pay $8 which is just obnoxious. I only gave this four stars because they need a good paint job. Where I sat, I was against the wall and it was dingy and dirty. Not dirty where I felt gross eating there but just old. They need to fix that. The place itself is very old school looking inside, but I think that adds to the character of a good old fashioned steakhouse. Just paint your walls please. One thing that offended me that had nothing to do with the restaurant was the way some of the customers were dressed. There was a table next to us and some were dressed like homeless people. I don't expect people to wear their Sunday best, but don't come into a restaurant dress like you just rolled out of bed. This I've been seeing more and more too. Please, show some respect. Our visit for Father's Day lacked luster, the server, never smiled until we tipped her, acted like we were a bother at times. When ordered our steaks, she cringed when I asked for my steak well done. It doesn't matter what you think, I'm the customer, I'm eating it and it's our $$$. The mashed potatoes with garlic, were weak, watery almost would say they were boxed. the portion size was minimal. The steak was prepared exactly to our liking, the broccoli was prepared just right. I wish I had taken photos. Walters is an institution. The ambience is 100% steakhouse. The food is 100% buffet. We had the stuffed mushrooms (3) that were flavorless. We ordered the porterhouse plus extra sides for me, as I'd just have a few pieces of his steak. The steak was cooked to the proper med-rare temp, but there was no crust on the outside and big pieces of fat (not rendered). The creamed spinach was cold and the baked potato were minuscule. PLUS the bathrooms had caked on dirt and grime. I can only imagine how gross the kitchen must be. The best part of the experience was our server. My husband took me to Walter's for our anniversary. I was extremely disappointed from the moment I walked inside. The place is really outdated. The dishes are cheap looking. I order a cocktail and it was okay but not really good. The appetizers portions were very small. The salad was horrible. We both ordered steak and it was cooked perfectly but lacked flavor. The potatoes weren't nothing especial. I ordered desert and told the waitress it was our anniversary, hoping that they would decorate the plate as usually restaurants do. They didn't do anything to it. Our bill was almost $200 and it was definitely not worth it. I never be back to this place. My go to place for prime rib. This is an old school steak house. It isn't sexy, hip, or cool. They play awful elevator Muzak (one feature that could very easily be upgraded at low cost that would make a big difference in ambience!) It's dimly lit. Has a nice little bar area. The service is always very good. On Thursdays and Sundays they feature a complementary seafood bar--oysters on half shell, clams, boiled shrimp, clams casino, mussels, . I get the same thing each time: my favorite wedge salad with delicious chunky blue cheese, and the petite 10 oz prime rib, rare. You have a choice of chuck (Fattier) or sirloin (leaner) cut. I don't like seeing a lot of globby fat on my meat. The sirloin is perfect. Tender and cooked exactly right. Served with a choice of potatoes. There are 4 sizes of meat to get. They have all the usual steak types, and a few seafood dishes. They have a frequent flyer club. When you spend $300, you get a $25 gift certificate. Walter's Steakhouse always delivers! Each time we visit we try something new and this visit was no different. I was not eating red meat at the time so the lobster was a stellar choice. The lobster was absolutely wonderful, it just melts in your mouth. My husband however did enjoy the steak in the form of filet Edmond and he commented more than once on how tender the meat was and how much he enjoyed it. We have been dining at Walter's for over 10 years and not one time have they disappointed. Had to keep looking for our waitress for service as she was over worked. As I received the check I had credit card in hand and she would be right . Than saw her start to take orders for a table of 12. Nothing worse than a waitress that doesn't close the deal timely. We tried to get the hostess to take our check and she said she couldn't . Old school steakhouse. Took my daughter there for her 21st birthday. The attributes here on Yelp say "Classy" and "Dressy" so I was a little disappointed to see people in jeans and sneakers. (There may have even been a t-shirt or two in there.) We, however, dressed for the occasion. My daughter had her first legal drink, which I believe was a Mangotini, which she pronounced delicious. I had an old standby, a Moscow mule. I wanted a diablo. But the waiter said the bar didn't have creme de cassis. (Guys, you have to up your cocktail game.) She ordered the surf and turf, while I had the Delmonico. Everything was delicious and prepared perfectly. They even comped our dessert since it was her birthday. It was bananas foster. I had heard so much about the great Walters steak house. A landmark in Wilmington with amazing seafood and steaks. I couldn't have been more disappointed. This may have been a fine dining establishment 20 years ago but, they haven't seemed to made any improvements since that time. We waited 10 minutes before being greeted by a hostess that looked frazzled and disorganized. quality of our meal. We came when there was the complimentary seafood bar. The quality of the seafood was similar to a Chinese buffet, not high quality. The cocktail shrimp were not deveined and the oysters were the lowest quality you could find with a metallic after taste. The serving dish was broken so it snapped back and startled everyone that opened it. The restaurant boasts about the quality and flavor of the meats. We ordered the top ones with high expectations.My prime rib was barely warm and had absolutely no flavor. The filet mignon was not tender at all. Both the meals came with a Caesar salad that was simply lettuce and croutons, that again, looked like it came from a Chinese buffet. I was feeling like Prime Rib (when don't I feel like Prime Rib?). Walters is on the level of Lawry's from a quality perspective and while most people think it is expensive considering the entree's come with a salad and potato it really is not. I got the 24 oz. King Cut because I wanted a bone in experience :-). I ordered an end cut from the chuck side and they brought me a meaty bone in cut that was medium though the photo makes it look well done. It was amazingly tender. Let me repeat, it was amazingly tender. It came with a nice twice baked potato and I got onion soup instead of the salad. The bone was meaty and I chomped it down before digging into the Prime Rib. I did not bring the bone for the dog because he would want to eat it where he sleeps (in my bed). The worst part about Walter's is the lack of parking and the neighborhood it not the best.
