I ate my across Nantucket, one lobster roll at a time. This one was my favorite! Forget "best of" lists. So many of those are paid anymore... I tried the "top ranked" ones and they fell short to good ol' Walter's roll. Doughy bread, mayo tang, juicy briny lobster. You won't get a white tablecloth, or any table cloth for that matter. But it is truly legit. I even had one for breakfast.

We had a small mix-up with our order regarding the quantity and temperature, but the staff was helpful in clearing it up. Once we got back to our hotel and dug into the lobster roll, all was forgiven. I waited in line around 10 minutes to place my order on a Tuesday at 11:30. My order was ready in 5 minutes. I ordered the chicken pesto panini and expected green pesto, but it only had a tomato sauce on it. Plus the chicken breast was breaded. It was served hot with melted cheese. It was made with quality ingredients and tasted delicious. This is counter service and no where to sit.

The deli is really just a counter, so you order and give the server your name and they call you when it's done. There's no seating but there are plenty of benches around The lobster roll is mayo-based lobster salad on a buttered, toasted roll. I've been along the New England states on my quest for the perfect lobster roll. Most rolls have an abundance portion of lobster with either cold (mayo) or hot (butter) on a typical hot dog bun. Walter's in Nantucket was a special find for the three of us. We typically share what we like and do not like about our meals. All three of us agreed that Walter's lobster roll was (hands down) our favorite. It was distinctive from other rolls as it was prepared with a bit of a citrus forward zest and - served on romaine on soft, buttered potato bread. We loved it so much we ordered two more for our trip back on the ferry. Light, savory, with a balance of citron and softness. We enjoyed this game in Nantucket! Thank you for a memorable experience! I got the eggplant parm sub and it was average. The bread was not very good. Tasted like my school library's eggplant parm sub. It wasn't cheap either. There's so many restaurants on that street so I'd just choose another if youre vegetarian.

Oh yeah, if you are trekking on island, and are in Town, Walter's Deli is a darn good spot to stop and grab a hot dog to take the hairy edge off! Virtually no parking, hey, you are on Broad Street where the bike and car rentals are located. It is a grab and go, but the dogs are worth the brief wait; oh the smell of the fresh salt air while knoshing makes the experience worth the 250 Calories - hey, let's be honest, you'll walk it off! Ask them to fill up your bottle, and leave a generous tip. The water quality on Nantucket, from all seven wells is internationally known for being pure, clean, and not clorinated. read more

Love this place! It's a cute deli with tons of options that you can grab to go. We grabbed lunch here today and the prices are reasonable, staff are friendly, and the food is delicious! $35 for a lobster roll is a good price. Got the hot and while yes it was hot there was way too much butter on this. Between 2 of us we couldn't even finish because the butter oil just soaked the bread. It was very well stuffed, would definitely try it again just maybe the cold roll or if lots of extra butter is your vibe give it a go! read more

A small very small walk up counter . Lobster roll $34.00. So worth it. No tables . Had to find a place to sit In this small town . The Roll was very good not cheap on the lobster. Excellent. Biggest lobster roll between Sayles, and raw fish market. 10" perfectly grilled brioch frankfurter roll with easily 6oz of lobster meat in chunks the way it should be. Best value of the three for price and quantity, Raw Fish Market was a bit tastier have to say. read more

We had Walter's after a wedding that went into the wee hours of the morning and boy was I grateful. The bread used on the panini was absolutely delicious and the caprese featured thick cut mozzarella. Sandwiches with meat seemed to be a mile high! When they say the best spots are the little hole in the wall...this place is it! It's a small corner shop not far from the dock. There is no seating but just a counter that you can order from. I ordered the lobster roll and my hubby got the chicken cutlet sandwich. WOW!! The lobster roll blown me away and definitely the best I have ever had!! The meat tasted fresh on a bed of lettuce and the softest roll. I had a bite of my hubby's chicken sandwich and it was so good! Thick chicken breast and the sandwich was about 12 inches. It was a nice place to visit..i ordered a chicken parm sandwich and it was fine..along with a bowl of soup..now it was all fine, and we ate it at a park bench outside and the sun was warming us just enough to make it comfortable..no issues or probs making a nice afternoon..no regrets about visiting a great place to get a lunch..simple and good..no regrets about visiting..they delivered on promise to make a good sandwich and soup..and learned more about the place i was visiting.....and think a lot of people felt the same..good move!.. read more

Got the chicken cutlet roll and was around 15 dollars after tax. It was a big sandwich and tasted fresh. I did wish the chicken breading was a little thicker and crispier but otherwise tasted good! read more

We came to Nantucket for our honeymoon and I read up on some of the better places to get lobster rolls. This is the place. The warm, buttery bread and mayo-based chunks of lobster is chef's kiss. Not overly expensive as some other places and is a great grab-and-go spot. read more

Went to NE. Did a touristy thing. Tried lobsters rolls here, pauli's (Boston), and alive & kicking (Cambridge). This was definitely the best out of those. Still thinking about it. Roll is warm with cold lobster salad. yum. My fiancée was able to get a veggie sandwich without cheese just fine and she liked it. read more

I did order one appetizer that was really good and that was the scallop with caviar over a pea sauce.. I feel like this is a place where you pay for the experience, not necessarily the food. Although it also may depend on what you get. My husband did not like his salad or the white asparagus, and my son didn't like his pasta either. Although to be fair my son is super picky. It did taste as though it had a sauce on it that was maybe cheese and not just butter, and the blue fish pate was super salty. I think overall my expectations were too high because of the prices despite the reviews but just because something costs more, doesn't always make it better. Extra points because the staff do go up and beyond to try to make it a special experience, so they do understand that part of the assignment at least.

We took the ferry over from White Elephant where we were staying, which can be booked with the hotel front desk or by calling the restaurant. You can order drinks on the ferry (they don't allow kids). They looked fully booked on resy but when we called, they had plenty of availability and were able to get a same day reservation for a party of 6. They also have a shuttle which takes 25 min that takes you back to white elephant every hour on the half hour (and the ferry which takes 50 min every hour on the hour). Overall, we had a great experience here!
