Back Yard BBQ was one of our favorite meals on Nantucket! The lobster roll was absolutely delicious--fresh, flavorful, and generously filled. What really stood out was the value; while many lobster rolls on the island can cost $60 or more, theirs was in the $30 range and well worth it. The burger was equally impressive--juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Service was quick and efficient, making it a great spot for a casual meal without a long wait. Great food, reasonable prices, and friendly service. We'll definitely be stopping by again on our next trip to Nantucket! read more

We fell into the door on the Fourth of July and were able to sit right away. The restaurant kept their door open which made it on the warmer side. It was during the heat wave and I sure was hoping for some AC. The Benedict and tator tots were delicious! Everyone at the table enjoyed their food and had no complaints. There are TVs at the bar area ton if there is something you would like to watch too. Our waiter was friendly and had great suggestions. He is from Jamaica and we all were talking about the World Cup. Was lucky enough to stumble upon this super cute spot on Nantucket last night for an impromptu late night date night, and I am so glad that we did! The restaurant was pretty chill around 9:30pm, even though it is centrally located near the HyLine Ferry port. We saw the evening ferry come in, and had a front row seat to the taxi and luggage chaos outside while we sipped Diet Pepsi and root beer in air conditioning. So nice. The bartender, Chris, was knowledgeable about the menu (thank you for steering us away from the five meat and sides platter- our eyes were surely bigger than our stomachs!) and onto the Selfie, which was two meats and two sides with bread. It was actually perfect to share for a light dinner, and we left happy and full. My boyfriend opted for the Mac n' Cheese (actually very flavorful, and I loved the homemade-tasting pasta!) and the Burnt Ends (sauce was sweet and sticky goodness), and I had the Cornbread (kinda dry but still yummy), and THE BEST FRIED CHICKEN I HAVE EVER HAD. Let me TELL YOU. I have very low expectations for chicken and rarely order it when out for dinner. Too often I've been lead astray by dry and flavorless bird entrees, and it ends up being a waste of time and money. However, after a long day of walking around Nantucket, I was starving and only fried chicken would do. This was truly S-Tier. Flavorful, moist, and cronchy- I almost both ordered another serving AND risked missing the ferry the next day to go back and get more. It's truly that good. There are family with kids dining and the next table are 9 college kids vaping and drinking. The waiter was informed about the vaping situation then he informed the manager. Both of them watched the girls vaping at the table and not a single one approached to ask to stop the vaping. No balls to enforce the illegal activity in their own restaurant. This had to be one of the most disgusting sports bars I have ever been to. There was ketchup all over our seats and the walls, causing my family and I to get ketchup all over our clothes and bags. I met an old friend here for dinner on a Saturday night at 6pm in late Sept. There were plenty of tables open. Nice touch here is that they serve all the local Cisco beers and spirits. I started with a Triple 8 Martini. BBQ can really aggravate my acid reflux - so while I love it - I gotta be careful. I wasn't super hungry - so I ordered the smoked chicken wings (dry rub) and a side of their Mac and cheese. The wings were nice and smokey and very flavorful, and they were nice and meaty. The mac and cheese was super creamy and really hit the spot of decadence. It was nice that they did not rush us at all and we could chat without feeling like we had to free up a table. Saw an IG post about their breakfast and made sure to stop by to grab their smokehouse benedict. They put poached eggs on top of layers of pastrami on top of cornbread with a side of home fries. I maybe got less bearnaise sauce as I had seen in the photo, but I did also take it to go. The poached eggs were done perfectly and I was able to try each of their three bbq sauces throughout. We sat at the bar and were greeted by Gus. He was very attentive and offered us a lot of good suggestions for beer and food. The crab dip was creamy and full of flavor. It was a creamy, crisp, and flavorful side. The burnt ends were very good...not outstanding...but again, we are tough bbq critics. All in all, it was our best meal in Nantucket. Our server, Tony, was exceptional. He was so knowledgeable about the menu, precisely attentive, and just a super nice person. Went in after a double header of hockey and we're waiting for the next ferry. Service was very good. Was greeted at the door by the manager and she let us store our hockey bags by the bar. Sat immediately and server came right over with water and took our drink orders. Drinks came in good time and food order was placed. Two of the adults ordered bbq options and one adult orders the double cheeseburger. One child ordered the Spivey chicken sandwich and the other child ordered the special, chicken bacon ranch sandwich. Food came out in good time and the portions were huge! The chicken sander over lapped the big bun they were on, the burger was nice and juicy covered in cheese. The bbq options were cooked perfectly! One priced but not mad because of its location it's super convenient to eat here before or after a ferry ride. Their dry rub wings are missing something for me but overall decent 7.5/10 in flavor, texture, and doneness of chicken. We came her during Stroll weekend and we were all pleasantly surprised! Somehow, our large group was able to walk right in and get a table (it was a bar type of table that was standing only) but it worked! We were starving and we were happy to even get into a place on such a busy weekend. The place was PACKED but the service was pretty good considering how many people were there. We were able to get our drinks (I got a few pumpkin beers, and others in my party got bloody marys) and everyone was pleased with their drinks. The food was also AMAZING. We got a little of everything, and I have to say, out of that whole weekend, this was my favorite food stop of the trip. I would definitely come back here during my next trip to Nantucket. read more

This place was a nice change from all the seafood I gourged on during my trip to the islands. Items sampled: Did Chili instread of Chowder. Chili was very good - had frito chips around the bowl and those added a nice texture. Chili was a touch sweet than I prefer - I like it more hearty but the barbeque sauces on the table (there are three - hot, mild and something in between I believe) could be used to mix in and so I did that. We got a lb of brisket - chopped and got a salad and made a salad - trying to avoid all the carbs if I can. Brisket was good but not great. Definitely have had better and so just can't give them 5 stars when the BBQ doesn't set itself apart. I mean best you are going to get on Nantucket but that's like saying the fried chicken at the KFC on Wilshire is best in Beverly Hills - I mean no other offerings so if you want BBQ on the Island then BYB is where you are going to go. I'd return - great spot to watch sports and people watch if you sit outside or near window as people go to and from to the ferries. Service was fine - didn't stand out but perfunctory. read more
