Came in here knowing my friends and family have always been customers. For our first times, my friend tried one of their flavored drinks and a sausage, egg and cheese on wheat bread. I had a cinnamon raisin bagel toasted with plain cream cheese. We both felt like our orders were not anything special. If anything, I felt like my bagel was stale from the first bite. Was excited to stop by and meet up with a friend. I arrived around 8:15pm and asked what time they were open till. The girl said 10pm. No hi, no nothing. Ordered a small hibiscus tea since the worker said they didn't offer any other drinks besides tea and plain coffee. The tea was good, nothing special. All she did was add hot water to a tea bag. People came and went but the whole time I was there, I felt uncomfortable. Definitely didn't feel welcomed... glad this isn't close to me or it isn't my coffee spot. read more

Me and my 2 other friends got to the cafe, for the first time too! one of my friends had Dunkin' Donuts coffee in her hand because why not? She likes Dunkin's donuts and it's her birthday? The owner yells at us to take the Dunkin' Donuts outside the cafe because "it's not allowed" in the store. And that is perfectly fine.. but he just kept yelling at her to get out and we just wanted to understand what was going on. He was yelling like we were being disrespectful as soon as we entered. This is honestly an okay place that I would still frequent. If you're into flavored coffee, this is a place for you! They don't have the flavors openly listed so you'll have to ask the people at the counter if you're unfamiliar. I'm a fan of s'mores and strawberry shortcake. You really taste more cream, sugar, and flavor than you do coffee but boy does that satisfy my sweets craving! I don't know if I'd really say this is quality coffee but I drank one yesterday at 2pm and was wired for 12 hours. It's pretty decently priced, a large was less than $3. read more

Literally the worst place I've ever been to. I online ordered hot chocolate while I was getting ready to go out so that it wouldn't be scorching hot when I got it. Upon arrival, the man who made my order was already very rude. He then told me "It's made when you arrive otherwise it defeats the purpose of hot chocolate." I couldn't even drink it cause it was too hot for a whole hour. I ordered way ahead so I'd give it time to cool down and be able to drink it when I got it, but the man who I believe was the owner, decided to do things based on his own preference and not the customer. read more

I have been visiting this establishment for 10 months or so, and i've been here at least a dozen times. Today was special, because it was the first time I met the owner. I always noticed the girls who work here seem to have anxiety, whether or not it's busy (it usually is). Now I realize it's because they work for this jerk. And some of the customers they have, you can tell they're from the community, and they must feel pressured to give good service to sketchy, disrespectful thieves who've been coming there for some time. I usually order breakfast sandwiches, muffins, and iced coffee. My friend brought me here once for their awesome flavored iced coffee flavors. I prefer the flavors over Dunkins, as well as the food, even though it always takes a long time. I like to support small, good businesses but unfortunately, this is not one. I waited in a long line to get to the girl who makes the food. I've been here enough to know the work flow--when it gets busy, one girl does only food and the other two will do coffees. So after I order my food, she takes the rest of the lines orders for food (about 5 more orders out of the 10 people in line) and heads to the back. The owner, Jim, and another girl finish making coffees, then Jim asks me if I ordered. I said, "Well yeah i ordered my food but not my coffee," where he turns, ignores me, and asks the next girl for her coffee order for 4 coffees. I said, "Excuse me, i ordered my food but not my coffees," to which he replied condescendingly, "you've been taken care of by someone, right? She will finish your order," which is wrong because obviously if she's making 6 sandwiches and as long as it takes to do so, she's not going to be able to make my coffee. Again i know the work flow. I couldn't believe the way he treated me, and how does he not know how his staff work? So he continues to take the next girls 4 coffees and another customer, and yet another customer! Addressing them all by name and asking how their family was. And continued to ignore me! The blonde girl doing coffees asked my coffee order after she realized he was not filling my order and was fast and polite. I don't know what world you live in, but all of your customers are important, not just the ones you know by name! One of the last times I was here, I waited in another long line to the door. I was behind a woman who seemed to be known there as a regular, and she had been turning around and very paranoid. I paid no mind to her and was having a conversation with my friend, when she turns around and yells at me that she knows i'm talking about her because I was just laughing, and how she has mental illness, and I'm making fun of her, and all these other delusions until I said I wasn't talking about you at all. Then she turns around, orders food, doesn't have enough money, orders a drink, grabs someone else's food (a few sandwiches) and walks out. After i finally get my order after they remake all of the food she took, I walk outside to my car and she's walking along the sidewalk super happy. I was a decoy! I bet she does that all the time because they seem to give certain people special treatment and they don't realize it because of their excuse. I know a lot about different mental and psychological conditions, and she furthers a bad stigma on a lot of people who really suffer. Maybe it's another reflection of the poor ownership of this place. The girls here are nice but I hope they all find new jobs, for their sanity. The cafe is small and outdated with a huge ugly couch in front. I've only ever gotten takeout here because i don't know if the tables are cleaned. The sandwiches are okay, nothing special. I'll have to find another breakfast spot because I don't want to support this type of man, or his business. He needs to learn how to treat people and there's a lot of improvements needed if he wants to stay in business. Support local but not here. Visited this place last week while I was in town visiting family. This place is super cool looking on the inside and the smell is indescribable!! The aroma is reminiscent of years of decadent coffee blended together that incites the most wonderful feeling. We visited on a Tuesday morning and it was not busy at all, which was nice for us because it was quiet. My cousin has been coming here for years and we chatted up the staff while we ordered and ate. The breakfast sandwich I ordered was fulfilling. I couldn't help but notice their incredible coffee flavors with super dope names, which I took a photo of. The serving sizes are gray for the price. I heard they've been doing open mic nights for years and my cousin reminisced about the times he would attend when he was in high school. Looked like they also serve wine and have other events periodically. Next time I'm back in Lynn, this place is high up on my list to visit again!! read more

every single time i go here i get sick??? do they literally ever clean????? it's also so crowded (partially why i think it always gets me sick) and it feels like entire building is covered in a layer of filth. you can barely move around and the bathroom is actually horrendous. decent place in concept (cute for open mics) but they need to remove at least half of the seating and deep clean the entire building. also get rid of that godawful couch that probably has a disease deep in the cushions somewhere. read more

I like supporting little mom and pop type places over chains. This is a tiny cafe that you'd almost miss if you weren't looking for it. However, their drip coffee is the worst I've had in a really long time. I ordered a drip coffee with some cream. Normally, the person behind the counter lets you fix your coffee the way you like, but not here. She put the cream in the cup first, then the coffee. The result was a cup full of cream with very little coffee. Also, it's filled right up to the rim, so be forewarned if take the lid off in your car. you'll end up with half of it in your lap. I asked for her to remake it with less cream. I said I could barely taste the coffee. Instead of pouring the whole thing out they just poured a quarter of it and then added more coffee, so it's still way too weak and doesn't taste like anything. if I didn't know better I would say that they never drink coffee themselves otherwise they would know better than to serve coffee like this. read more

I don't understand the hype. It is the go-to coffee shop for many of my co-workers and about once a year I'll stop in thinking "I must be wrong thinking that this place is nothing special". Most coffee places in my area don't stay open very late into the day so I was pretty excited to see the open sign and open door as we passed by Walnut Street Cafe after 6pm on a Monday. We quickly found parking and were greeted by a very cheery woman who said for sure they were making food still and that they had a huge list of brewed (not syrup) coffees. Fantastic! The list of Green Mountain brewed coffees was indeed huge. I saw several that I wanted to try and we settled on a blueberry (you can never go wrong with blueberry coffee) and a chocolate brew. They were done perfectly with extra cream in no time and for only about $5.50 we were on our way with coffee on a Monday evening. Miracles do happen! The coffee tasted great, no complaints. I think we've found our new evening coffee spot for sure! They also had a nice selection of bagels, sandwiches and cream cheese spreads which we'll try on the next visit - that Cajun flavored bagel is calling to me! read more

I am new to the Lynn neighbourhood and live only a few minutes from here. I drive by this place every morning and have been wanting to give it a shot. I was excited to visit based in all the good reviews on here. I decided to go last week and try a coffee and my husband ordered a hot chocolate. First: atmosphere. It was cute and quaint but chairs and tables were practically on top of each other in an already small space due to the stage they had. In a very visible corner, there was a table and a man (whom I assumed was the owner) with piles and piles of paper and books on the desk...it just look too...messy and cluttered for my liking. The coffee which was decently priced at $2.50 wasn't anything to be thrilled about but decent. I'd much rather support a local shop than a chain like DDs. However, they charged the same price for my husband's hot chocolate. The woman at the counter literally took out the can of Swiss miss right in front of me and put in two scoops, swirled it around with hot water and that's it...$2.50!!! It was watery and a major rip off. They didn't even ask if I'd like to have it made with hot water or milk. Anyway, I hate to say it but I won't be back. read more

I live 4 houses away. This place is a gold mine. The owner Jim good guy.. Coffee is great better than Dunks and Starbucks. The ONE thing I am upset about is the STAFF other than Red the rest of the staff is very unfreindly and very rude. The worst one is the short stout girl with glasses. VERY RUDE... Now it's a game I play I am EXTRA nice and friendly to her to forse her to respond with kindness. Still NOTHING. Whenever I get a coffee at Walnut Street Cafe I'm always reminded of the endless amount of hours I spent hanging out with my friends here after high school, waiting for Meag to finish her shift, playing darts and board games, drinking iced coffees and eating bagel sandwiches with a movie or the news on in the background. I started coming to the place because my best friend used to work here, but I still find myself coming back for coffee long after her employment there because I love their iced coffee and it's a great place to stop into. Over the year a few things have changed: the cafe has turned into a semi-sorta-venue for local musicians and poets looking to sing or read in close proximity to a crowd that has figured out that, along with coffee and tea, the cafe also serves a quite decent selection of wine and beer. Also, the addition of the enclosed patio on the side of the building (fire pit and all!) has offered a new space for smokers looking to enjoy a cigarette with whatever they're drinking. All of this change is for the better, but the classic things about the coffee shop that made it great in the first place have remained the same: 1) the coffee is most definitely the best in the city, 2) as I mentioned before: they serve booze, and 3) the atmosphere - couches for seats, family pictures on the walls, books and games on shelves all over the place, the slightly dark lighting and the fireplace, and the employees and regulars offering a bit of local flavor, all add up to a place that definitely feels home-y. Owner Jim was very disrespectful to 4 little 11 year old girls that were visiting daily during vacation . One little girl brought in a bag of chips from richdale ( kids don't know that they can't bring in outside food to another establishment) the owner scolded the girls and told them to throw it away and get out. I was told by the staff that all the girls were very respectful and well behaved every time they visited . Went to talk to the owner about the way it was handled he could have nicely explained to them outside food was not allowed into the coffee shop and immediately got an attitude and was told to not tell him how to run his business !! read more

I have never had a coffee or sandwich from this place that I didn't like. The atmosphere (indoor & out) is brilliant and cozy. The events that they host are friendly and unique to not only the area but also uncommon to find in today's fast paced society. It pains me to only rate it 3 stars. They (various staff) are incredibly rude to some customers, while unprecedentedly friendly to others. One of my very close friends calls this place "Mean People Cafe." Literally. The first time she sent me a text reading "Do you want me to stop at Mean Ppl Cafe for you?" I knew immediately to which establishment she was referring. I would also like to note (Don't say I didn't warn you!!) that they apparently have an unwritten policy that food orders must be placed before drink orders. My experience has been that when I go to any restaurant, they take my drink order first. It has also been my experience when I go to a competitor cafe, that I place my order for my drinks first. It is a pleasant experience to sip on, and savor, my beverage while waiting for my food order to be completed. Unfortunately at Mean Ppl Cafe, I instead find myself with a much less pleasant experience - that of being scolded (quite sternly) for not ordering my food prior to ordering my beverage. read more

The place seems awfully disorganized (I know it's really the charm of the lounge to be disorganized, but I'm talking about the kitchen.) Most of their coffee comes tasting pretty flavored. My mom ordered a regular coffee once and it came out tasting like remnants of old hazelnut syrup. They regularly offer entertainment. In the recent year they have stopped booking younger, rowdier acts. (Violating noise restrictions...no bueno, this is basically a cafe wedged in a thickly settled area.) Yesterday I came in with my 2 friends to this café and for me, it was my first time being there. I brought in a cranberry-apple juice that I recently bought from Dunkin Dounts to this café until the owner comes in and starts yelling and accusing me for bringing a beverage that contains alcohol. At first I thought it was a prank until he starts swearing at the me and I quote,"Throw that s**t away". One of my friends asked him if he wanted to smell the beverage if it contained alcohol and the owner responded and I quote again,"Frankly I don't give a s**t". I love this little local gem! Definitely a lounge" atmosphere fitting for day or night. I don't regularly drink coffee, but they do have quite a variety on hand. My favorite thing to get is a bagel with cream cheese. They don't skimp on the cream cheese at all and their bagels are perfectly fresh every time. You have to get there early to get the kind you want though as they can run out early. Most if the time I go and just ask what they have left. Night time they often have local bands/performances and serve beer and wine which is pretty neat. read more

I feel like the staff & owner should all take a field trip to the nearest Dunkin' Donuts & taste coffee. Their coffees are always watered down, they usually add more cream & ice than anything soo you're really just ordering a cream drink, extra ice & a splash of coffee, (or water since you can't taste the coffee). & let's not get started on STAFF & their LACK OF customer service. Don't get me wrong, on a good day you'll get an awesome employee but then you'll get the employees that won't greet you, don't have manners & will treat the customers like shit. I had a girl today, had chronic bitch face, kept rolling her eyes & gave me my coffee cups all dirty, still wet from the coffee & it was overflowing.
