I will try to not come back. I stopped by just to look for an everyday watch. I was never asked by the sales clerk did I need assistance so I took it upon myself to ask for what I was looking for which was a water resistance water that had a all band with large numbers. Once the lady stopped choking down whatever food product she put in her mouth, she replied in saying you have to read what's on the labels and for me to check a stand full of cheep watches. Absolutely despicable service. Called the manager the person that answer phone calls is speaking with such accent that is not even understandable. Manager is just as nasty as the person working in front. Send those people to charm school. This is not a way to treat a customer just because you really don't know your job. When questioned she turned around and walked away...sorry not acceptable only because they are not capable of doing their jobs and I have to pay for their mistakes. Union, NJ Walmart should be ashamed of their customer services department. I couldn't work or walk that slowly in my sleep. The employees could care less if someone dropped dead in line.The store purposely staffs just two people for returns and the lines are always immeasurably long (next time I will post a picture), often 12-15 people deep. This discourages people from making returns, especially for small items. All done on purpose. I let corporate customer service know but they're across the country and have no eyes in the store. I have been to other Walmarts in higher socioeconomic areas and customers there are not mistreated as they are in the Union, NJ store. It's a sad commentary on today's social environment. Zero stars this Walmart is always messy. Went in yesterday and they were out of bags. Completely out of bags. After spending about an hour and a half in this store I had to leave everything I needed to purchase. I literally only shop here because I live a few miles away. Shelves are rarely ever well stocked, things are always a mess and the lines are always super long with long waits to checkout. On a positive note, their customer service has definitely improved over the past year or so. I've been seeing new faces who are willing to answer a question or help the best they can. The biggest issue all around are the majority of shoppers who frequent this location. Rude, nasty, and messy are understatements. Watchung and Kearny are just too far of a drive for me, so I'm stuck with this place but if I had an option I would never step foot here. read more

This Walmart is one of the scariest and most unfriendly places in the area. The only nice person is the man in the wheel chair that greets you every time you enter. The employees are rude, the store is never ever stocked, and the customers are just plain frightening. The best part is, once when my husband and I adopted a sweet little puppy we took her over to petsmart next door for a few items and then decided to run to Walmart and buy a baby gate for our house. Mind you, she is the calmest puppy and was only about 6 pounds at the time. We walk into Walmart and she's curled up in my husbands arms asleep and the employee at the door says you can't bring that in here! Meanwhile, there's two teenage kids flying by on the handicap scooters laughing behind her and zooming through the store. We wanted to respond "this is Walmart. There are no rules." But my respectful husband waited in the car with our pup while I got the gate. I guess we were the wrong color. I also have noticed some extreme racism when it comes to checking receipts on the way out. It never fails that we are stopped every time, our bags thoroughly checked and receipt matched, yet I've never seen this done to anyone else in there. oh walmart, this is never a joyous trip. I would avoid coming here on the weekend, last time i came here on a weekend was on Easter Sunday. The Easter aisle was DESTROYED, but i shouldn't be complaining as a last minute shopper, the nerve lol. anyway, half of the self check out aisles were broken, it took us almost 20 min to check out which should've only been a 5 min checkout -__- Walmart is definitely cheap and so i have to come here to buy household items, prices are very reasonable and sales are always good. read more

Vision Center Review - great if you're on a serious budget and in no hurry (& have a LOT of patience). I needed glasses with Prisms which needed to be special ordered (not a problem). They ordered the incorrect prescription, didn't call me when it was ready, then they had to re-order the lenses, then those had scratches on them. 1 month later I finally get acceptable lenses. My last pair of glasses from Lenscrafters was done in a few hours but double the price. read more

Customer service is nonexistent here. I've called 4 times (still on hold as I'm writing this) simply trying to ask if a product is in stock. The guy who answered the phone and asked where to transfer me is beyond rude and clearly overwhelmed with his job. He shouted that the store is busy and that's why no one is picking up my call. Earlier in the day I spoke to a lady who was friendly and polite and when she transferred me I actually heard the ringing noise that would indicate my call was sent over. With this guy, there is no ringing. I'm under the impression he just put me on hold for the 11 minutes I've been waiting. Normally I tend to avoid this location at ALL costs simply because they are notorious for neglecting customers and overall poor customer service, but other locations don't have the item I'm looking for and I can't even get an answer from anybody at the Union location. I can't stress enough that people should avoid this place. Only now does it dawn on me that Target might price match their competitor. I think Walmart is a great place because I get good things that lasts a long time at good prices.

I'm only reviewing the vision center in Union, not the entire store. Special thanks to employees for doing a good job and one manager Sheila for going out of her way to provide good service. First time went there many years ago, at least seven. Still wear the glasses and the lenses. First time the lab did a good job and made a perfect cut. Next few times wasn't so lucky but eventually the lab got it right. I'll be returning to the vision center. I can't say the same about the rest of the store. Just horrible. I go to Edison or other stores. Something needs to change in this area to make the store better... what could it be.... what needs to change....hmmm. The public, customer service, etc. read more

I'm giving this Walmart a ONE star only because I have no other option. This Walmart for starters has the WORST customer service you can ever get, the employees think they know it all and have the worst attitudes when you ask them questions. It's always overcrowded and the lines are always long! I went here tonight ONLY because I was on Route 22, I wouldn't go here to shop if I had the choice. I did however witness one of the employees (older gentleman) I believe his name was John get harassed by customer because he was a little slow on the register, he's doing his best! I love that Walmart gives employees the opportunity to work no matter the age, but I felt so bad for this man. They were calling him names and telling him to retire. No one should ever get spoken to like that! Walmart should protect their older employees as it seems they're the ones getting picked on. I unfortunately was forced to pick up an order instead of having it shipped. It was the worst experience. I stood in one line by customer service only to be told 15 minutes later that I had to stand in a line at the back of the store. I stood there for thirty minutes before someone took my order number to look for my order. I then sat for another 60 minutes to have someone ask me what my order was again. They couldn't find it and had to go to the floor and see if they could find it to give it to me. There process is so backward. They take the order number of five people at once, then they go to the back where they literally look for shipped boxes that have the customers name on it. The boxes have not even been opened and it seems that the boxes are not even organized...Just randomly thrown in the back. Most places that have store pick up, you may wait in the line but once your order is taken you typically get that in 5 minutes....an hour...COME ON! And I was not the only one. There were some that were back a second day because they were told that there order wasn't even there after doing what I had to do above. I will stick with target. read more

I agree with a previous reviewer that the staff seems unprofessional - inappropriate personal conversations with other staff members when customers (even children) are around, and just not being all that polite and helpful in general. I'm a regular shopper of the Walmart in Ephrata, PA. Clean. Well organized. Efficient. Polite staff. That store made me a regular Walmart shopper, so I figured they all follow that model and gave the Union, NJ store a shot. Holy cow was I wrong. In a nutshell, the food department was disgusting (I can't believe it doesn't get closed for health violations). The staff is uninformed and apathetic on a good day. Rude on a bad day. And the store is dirty and disorganized. I have a very high tolerance for less than pristine conditions, but I felt like I needed a shower after my last visit to this location. read more

The neighborhood is not ghetto but it appears a the majority of the staff are from 'hood' areas. Attitudes are less than desirable having lackluster approach to serve customers. I shop when the doors open at 7 a.m.and get out as quickly as possible. Shelves are well stocked and the store is relatively clean. There are plenty of in- good condition shopping carts. I use the self check-out registers love them. The customer service return line is deplorable with its unacceptable long lines. I hope there are plans to open a Wal-Mart in Irvington and/or Newark hint-hint it just might entice me to spend more time browsing and thus convert my browsing time into money being spent. read more

I don't have high standards for Walmart to begin with. I've been coming to this one since it opened because of the proximity to my house. I feel it officially has hit rock bottom tho. I saw another review that had me laughing about how they hire. Are you friendly? No? Great you're hired! Sums it up perfectly. The employees in this store are some of the most incompetent and unfriendly people I've ever seen under one roof. Sure, there's one or two decent human beings that work here, but I've never seen them. Recently, their customer service is so bad they could literally make a training video on things not to say or do to customers. I'm seriously in disbelief when I shop here. How this store is not on corporate's Radar makes me scratch my head. If Sam Walton was still alive and visited this store, he'd return back to Arkansas, get a truck filled up with dynamite, return, and blow it up and hopefully try to rebuild this mess! read more

I asked an associate about an item and she responded by saying "I don't have a clue" . This Walmart needs to have all of their associates retrained. I hate this store...I hate working here...I hate the people who shop here and they should just shut it down...I work hard in this store but the customers do not realize that one person can not do all...I refuse to work hard when people come in rude and disrespectful...to complain that the store is a mess! My concern is with the Optical Dept. They are understaffed and overworked. My husband and I were getting our eye glasses from Sears and decided to return to Walmart for the service. Sad to say, it took almost two weeks for one pair to come back to the store. My original receipt was left at the store and no one there at the Optical dept. could find it. I called to request a copy but their printer is not working and I have to wait until Thursday to get a copy. Very, very poor conditions that these professionals have to endure. A person to just answer the phones and prepare the customer for the visit or just to help with questions must be addressed. This store was just about out of stock of everything. This manager must either be retrained or removed. I've worked in retail for more than 17years and I have never encountered anything like the conditions in this store. The service in this specific store is terrible. I do not expect 5 star service in a Walmart but I think every store should have common courtesy. I used to come here because it was 4 minutes away from my home but after the last trip I had it. One specific trip, the cashier took her cellphone out and placed it on the scale and started going thru her phone, while she was scanning my stuff. The whole time she had one hand on her phone and the second hand she was scanning my stuff. I wanted to complain because I found this completely disrespectful but I decided not to. Another trip I made a different cashier was swearing up a storm out loud. I use the F word once in a while but never at my job and especially not in front of customers. She was complaining about having to do an overnight shift and just kept cussing. I was so upset about her behavior that I was on my way to complain to the manager of the department when I literally started to hear the manager act the same way as her cashier. I could not believe The words that were coming out of her mouth. I just walked away, figuring it was a lost cause. These incidents happened about 2 years ago. I decided to just use self check out but even that became an issue as there is literally 2 registers opened and the self check for about 30-40 customers every single time. I can literally write an easy about this place and it's mediocre service. Many items are not in stock and when you finally manage to find an employee that is willing to help they have no clue what you are talking about. Anyways, I decided to shop at Target in Union, which is about a minute away from this place. They are so much better in every way possible. read more

This has got to be the WORST Walmart in America! I called to check if an item I had purchase online was ready for pick up but I was left on hold for 10 minutes before I got tired & hung up. I called back sever times to the phone there being either busy or it ringing for 5 minute straight with no one answering it at all!! After a few failed attempts at trying to get my question answered over the phone, I decided to just go there in person. When I got to the "Pick up department" it looked like a hospital waiting area! People waiting everywhere for their stuff to be found! I waited about a half an hour to then be told that I had to wait for a text message saying my item was ready for pick up! Something anyone who works at that department could have told me over the phone, if they would have took the time to answer it! That was a week ago and I'm still waiting for the text! they lie about their return policy! multiple times dylan (cust service manager) has told me that if i pay by debit it has to go back on the card instead of cash back...when in fact any other walmart ive been to has given me cash back upon any return and looked at me puzzled when i was suprised by them giving me cash back. unknowledgable about how their own machine to test car batteries work, i had a defective battery and they "tested it", told me it was good when in fact it is not good under a load. so i asked the guy if that battery tester just reads voltage or actually puts a load on the battery. one guy looked lost and dylan just said uhh yes it does, when in fact i know that it doesnt due to the fact that i used the machine in garfield nj's location in the past. after telling dylan that he knows nothing about car batteries and how they work, he proceeded to tell me he was "ASE certified". your not ASE certified working a full time job during regular shop hours at walmart. and if he was it was def not ASE A6(electronics). i did not appreciate being talked to in a manner just to get me out of the store. i have been mecp certified for 7 years in car electronics and i know how a battery works so i was kind of picking his brain. he failed my test. and even told him i was mecp. he claims he never heard of it. i had to go to walmart in watchung nj and they gave me a replacement battery at no charge. read more
