Non-perishable Kosher section was abysmal (laughable) as is typical. BUT while browsing the frozen section for a delicious kosher treat I was pleasantly surprised to stumble upon something I was convinced to be an Ikea exclusive, the almond chocolate caramel daim cake! That cake is delicious and at only $6 an amazing deal. The prices at lidl are very affordable, only one employee in the entire store that I saw last night at around 8pm. Shout out to that employee hustling to check everyone out while also monitoring the self check out, you deserve a raise sir. read more

I stopped into the Union Lidl for a few groceries recently. I usually shop at a different location, but was already on Route 22 running errands. My experience was pretty good. I found what I needed, and the produce was in good shape and was fresh. I also found some deals in the Lidl Middle aisle - cute, reusable handwarmers and food containers. Reading other Yelp reviews, I suspect there may be a difference in the experience for shoppers in the morning and those at night. I was there in the AM, probably within the first hour it was open. This Lidl closes early regularly despite posted hours to 9 pm. They just rejected a customer who entered at 8:53 pm. I went in at 8:40pm and all of the bread in the bakery had been removed from the shelves. Workers were unfriendly and visually upset at shoppers who were in the store when I went in. Someone needs to report this breach of service to their German masters. I'm sure they would address it accordingly.... read more

So I finally decided to check out Lidl. And unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed in my experience. When you first enter, you are greeted by beautiful flowers. I really enjoyed the floral section and the flowers are pretty affordable. That was certainly a plus. The overall layout of the store is a bit confusing. The produce area is messy and dirty. There were so many things on the ground, and it should have been swept up and kept neat. The bakery section had a variety of baked goods, but most of the items seem to be sold out or they look like they've been sitting there for a while. Most of the items are private label but you can find some national brand items there. The store overall is huge with plenty of space, it feels like a bougie Aldi. Would I go back here? Lidl is bomb! I've been looking to save $ at the grocery store as I'm sure we all are and decided to look into Lidl. The flyer sold me because prices were great but the in store experience sealed the deal. Everything is clean, organized, and there is a great selection of items. They even have their own little aisle of shame (IYKYK) with some great personal and household items. I like that they have a few more name brands that I use for a lower price. Initially I started with grocery items like eggs, snacks etc to see if they were good, then tried produce and meat. I have to say I am impressed, especially the meat. It is a little cheaper than the regular grocery stores and good quality. I have been able to get a nice amount of groceries for our family of 2 for under $100. The workers fine, they are present but not on top of you. Although I still need to go to other grocery stores, Lidl is now in the top 3 rotation. read more

Reminds me of an Ikea. They keep costs low with less packing, less inventory, and wide aisles and covers on the freezers. But they were out of the sale items, no wateelons when I arrived and carts all over the parking lot. While somewhat cheaper on some items, brand name items were about the same. If you're used to the European Lidl, don't come here. This place is like a knock-off Aldi but arranged even worse. All the products in the aisles were just thrown around, nothing was arranged nicely. I went in around lunchtime and I think it was me and two other people in the whole store. The prices aren't anything special, I honestly walked out without buying anything. I would skip this place. It's a shame because it's a huge space and it could be better with a huge makeover. The only pro is their bakery section looked really nice. It's on your right as soon as you walk in. On a recent visit, purchased a loaf of white bread with my groceries to feed sparrows as global warming has caused birds to face harsh weather conditions. After loading the car, proceeded to break the white bread into small pieces to put under bushes in the Lidl's Route 22 parking lot as that is where sparrows hide in adverse weather conditions. A German store employee approached and said that they prohibit it as the bread would attract rats. Are they serious ??? So they are saying that Lidl's Union location has a rat problem !!! Went on Friday around 12. Waited on line for 20minutes to get in. Still was a decent amount of people inside so was glad to see they were limiting customers. They were out of some things but fully stocked with essentials like eggs, Mille, orange juice, bread. Many of the special items were out. When I first visited Lidl when it opened I was not impressed. However, the store has been improving every since it opened. They now have a sizable section of organic produce and organic dry goods at great prices. They often run sales. You can find grass fed beef and organic chicken and wild caught fish here. They also sell organic eggs for $3.29 and a gallon of organic milk for less than $6. I am hoping they can add grass fed dairy to their repertoire as well. It would save me a trip to Whole Foods or Trader joe. If you read labels to find healthy products you will love Lidl. Many of their products have simple and healthy ingredients, ones you can pronounce. For example they often use turmeric instead of yellow coloring. They have a nice selection of frozen foods including frozen fruits and veggies. Lots of cheap and tasty pizzas too for those nights you don't want to cook from scratch. You can get canned goods and pasta for less than a $1. Their prices are low, they have many European options and their store is never too crowded. Happy to have this store in our area. Also in my opinion this store is way better than Aldi. read more

I am so excited there is a Lidl near us! As a German, this place is our grocery store. To best describe your experience here, think of how Costco operates and shove it inside a half supermarket? They don't really stock shelves, they just have boxes and they open them up... Lidl is 2-3 times the size of Aldi! They also have considerably more products (of course). They also have a great number of special buys every week! The location isn't the best, its on 22 and either people are driving 2 mph or 90.... The store is super clean! I am disappointed that they don't charge for carts, because they are all over the parking lot... I really don't mind sticking in a quarter and then getting it back when I return them. The shopping carts are very elegant! Very clean and super easy to push compared to other carts. When I returned the cart at the end of shopping, one of the employees came up to me and said I want to thank you for doing this. You are the first person today to return the cart! This location has a nice little bakery. They have about 30-40 ish baked good options from pretzels to pastries and rolls and loaves. Their produce section is also pretty varied as well as their meats. When we were there, the fresh beef looked a little gray... The had an amazing frozen section! I found my bee sting cake! I will try it out soon. They had sold out of whole milk gallon and half gallon when we went. This isn't a ShopRite or stop and shop, its all the essentials you need. There are no frills! They sell a lot of store brands. I've never had any issue with any of their store brands. Everything here is super affordable and 30% cheaper than other supermarkets. The only thing I can say is the lines were decently long, they could have opened up a few more check out lanes. We were backed up about 6-7 carts and there were 2 lanes opened. Some people only had 3-4 items but some spent 200+ so checkout took about 10-15 minutes. All in all, super excited to have this place finally here! Great variety of sawing craft, very good priced drinking water, not all produce is priced at a low price, but for most of the regular products are at the same price as other grocers. A little sloppy merchandise on the non grocery area, I guess too much traffic. Good verify of house hold items. Great bakery bakery, lots of selection. It's recomendable but not the best of all, I till think in my opinion that you have to buy wisely from the different stores to get the best prices. Definitely not a 3-star establishment! I think the reviews are a bit jaded. I came here during Covid-19 madness and the place was totally tame. Yes, there were sold out of a few items and a lot of frozen food items, but it's a pandemic and people are vultures stocking up on everything! Upon entering, the store was clean and all produce appeared fresh. I picked up a cute organic basil plant here and a ton of spices for my spice rack. Really amazing prices, easy to navigate, great quality shopping carts and a decent if not way above average inventory. They were out of non-organic garbanzo beans, so I opted for the organic ones, other than that- everything I came for, they had in stock! People had their carts topping over with ice cream, pizza, fries, frozen everything- so that's why there's nothing left! The workers were all much friendlier than any grocery chain I've visited. Picked up some Belgian chocolates, organic spices, lemonade iced tea, and disinfectant spray which pretty much explains a 5-star review. Some very healthy products I wasn't expecting, but not a destination for a vegan besides tofu and veggies- I did notice Beyond Meat crumbles, but that's it! It's somewhat of a cross between Trader Joe's and Aldi. However, the place is disorganized, poorly stocked, somewhat dirty and carts strewn all over the parking lot. They carry a mix of their own and national brands. Their own brands are well priced, otherwise it's not inexpensive. I wouldn't rush back. I think Aldi has better prices and is better stocked. I purchased three premium quality steaks (Steakhouse Naturals® 100% grass fed Angus beef ribeye) at Lidl. When I got home and open them up they smelled rancid like they had been packed with manure. I tried to return them to the store but the store manager refused to take them. (Covid was the excuse, as if they were going to restock spoiled food?) I was instructed to contact the consumer support line. Initially they were very sympathetic so I provided them with detailed information about lot numbers and several high resolution pictures. They said they would refund my purchase amount. At first they said they mailed a gift card. Nothing. When I asked, they said the card was still "in route". One month later, nothing. Generally the store offers great savings but, after this experience, I would never buy any fresh meat (poultry or beef) from them again. read more

Lidl Supermarket is conveniently located on Route 22 in Union. I've been coming here since they first opened. I never like to review a supermarket when they first open because they always change down the line. Lidl has proved this phrase correct. When they first opened it was amazing! Their produce, fresh baked bread and goods and store cleanliness were second to none. 5 stars all the way WHEN THEY FIRST OPENED. But, Yesterday I went there looking for produce. I purposely passed right by Aldi since Lidl has always been better for buying produce in my opinion. Unfortunately however, I found some molded strawberries, a parking lot with scattered carts everywhere and plenty of garbage in the carts and the lot. I'd never encountered any of those issues when they first opened. I'm a real stickler for where I shop so perhaps I'm being a bit more critical then the average supermarket shopper. Now onto some important topics to review. Pricing: If you're familiar with Aldi and appreciate that store, you'll like Lidl since it's similar to Aldi but on steroids. It's a much bigger store with a bigger selection of products but unfortunately they don't offer hash browns (Aldi does) and I hope Lidl will sell them in the future. Products: I truly love many of Lidl's products. Makeup wipes, fresh baked cookies, and frozen wild-caught salmon are some of my favorites. Prior to spotting molded strawberries yesterday, produce was also my favorite. I was once told by a store member that they had a specially designated employee that checked the produce every hour making sure it's fresh- perhaps that's no longer the case. Restrooms: the restrooms are gender designated and have always been clean when I used them and stocked with appropriate necessities. Store cleanliness: The store has always been clean from what I've seen. Aside from the parking lot and carts which may be somewhat littered with garbage, I have very little complaints about the inside of the store. Products: Lidl has everything from canned and frozen veggies, a wide range of paper products, boxed cereals, pet food and chocolate, to name a few. Like Aldi, they also have some items like small furniture, children's toys, pajamas, and other items, depending on the weekly specials. According to a recent article published, these products are the best things to buy at Lidl: - Bakery - Charcuterie - Cheeses - Fresh meat, fish and chicken - Nuts - Chocolates - Cookies - Pastas - Packaged Foods And wine which they do not sell at Union Lidl. As I was self checking out I must have hit the need help button. Either way I continued and put my card in. A woman (long braids, long green nails) came rushing over to about 6 inches from me. Fantastic store. Location is a bit unfortunate - smack dab between ShopRite and Costco, although since Lidl has enough to differentiate itself, don't think competition will be much of a problem. The bakery greets you as soon as you walk in the door. It's a must try. We get the hazelnut stuffed croissants and they are out of this world - flaky, buttery, generous filling. Worth every single mouthful. I watch prices like a hawk on the items that i buy regularly - their store brand coffee is like $2.14 per pound. It's a fine brand - not winning any awards, but it gets the job done. Produce is of fine quality. Canned goods are particularly reasonable. I haven't personally explored the novelty items (sous vide machine --Really?) but who knows? At these prices, why not? A big part of the reason I will drive like 10 miles out of my way to visit has to do with the store layout and experience itself. They had small bags of tiny crappy looking golden delicious apples @70c/lb but if you want nicer normal size golden delicious $1.70/lb. Nothing else is 'cheap' or 'cheaper' besides a few items. I expected a groceries store but they also had chinese garbage tool kits, drones and some other useless crap. Tried their ginger bread cookies. Didn't like. There are no plastic bags. Just discovered LIDL recently. I used to go to this store often when I lived in Germany and though I would like to see German products on the shelves, it does have a slight European feel. The breads are authentic. The packages are smaller which I like so you can shop more frequently for fresher food. Even being part of a 4 member family, I find bulk items too...bulky. You can only eat the same thing for so long until you get bored with it. So while nearby Costco has its perks when it comes to non-perishables and things you use up quickly, LIDL is great for things you don't. I also shop at Shoprite regularly but LIDL is much cheaper on a lot of items. I don't know how they can afford it. The baked goods are delicious. I hope they stay open for a long time. They don't seem to attract the kind of foot traffic Costco and Shoprite do. read more

first of all let me start off by saying the first LIDL i shopped at was in Cannes France i understand that it is the biggest grocery chain in all of europe! what a fun fun place to shop for grocery and unique household items fun just like trader joe's which i think is german owned like trader joe's and ALDI. the prices were amazingly cheap less than half as shoprite and quick and simple usually only one choice of brands which even though the packing has different brands they all say made for LIDL LIDL BAKERY deserves its own spectacular review! soon as you walk in the modern bright huge 3 story all glass front is the bakery all you can smell is sweet hot butter. very unique display all plastic doors you bag yourself while the bakers are busy filling the bins. their signature cinnamon swirled iced buns, croissants, warm soft baguettes the front of the stores isles are food items but if you continue down the back half of the isles you find big wire bins filled with $5 generic Birkenstock sandals, joggers, pajama sets men and women's all $5! school supplies unique small household items too many to list! have yourself a fun shopping experience read more

This location opened up in November, it's big and clean. They have a small bakery with limited items but what they have is good. Same thing for the rest of the supermarket, they have some brand names and their own labels with great prices . You might not be able to do all of your food shopping but they have enough to make a meal. When I was in Germany I first found out about lidl. Now I'm glad they brought it here to my area . They many cashiers, the staff is friendly even the voice from the lady that makes announcements sounds nice . (I think it's the same lady you Hearst the airport) same voice . Been here 3 times and so far it's good. It's a different type of store so I don't think there's competition around. I recommend you stop and check it out. read more

The store is an absolute wreck, the shelves are constantly EMPTY. They are out of everything and the few produce items they have are wilted and look second rate. When this store opened in November 2018 it was amazing and I loved going there but for the last 6 months its a dump!! They literally have nothing but bare shelves and nothing in the frozen cases. The constant protestors out front of the store with signs saying to shop UNION are obviously right because this place has gone down the drain. The management is clueless and never around and the check out literally has one lane open at any given time.
