Most times, I go here if I am searching for something specific and unable to find it elsewhere. I like the size of the parking lot, there are plenty of spaces to occupy. I've been going to this store for about 2 decades. I've seen it at its worst, and I've seen it at its best. It appears to go in cycles (like the economy). I could really give them a stellar review, or, I could give them a poor review. But, I'll just say, I keep coming back to them, and I don't why. It could be the people who work there. Could be the overall atmosphere of the building itself. Could be the array of items offered (albeit very inconsistent). Could be the small crowd of shoppers. Could be seeing the same faces of shoppers and staff who you become familiar with over time. Could be the convenience because I live fairly close by. Could be the available parking. Or, it could be a number of many other things. However,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I keep coming back. I don't think I'm a glutton for punishment. April 7 about 8:45 AM I was at the location and went to the self checkout to ring my items. I had two bags of produce. I put one on the scale and was looking up the item when a very rude employee came over to me and starts yelling no use barcode no use barcode, then grabs out of my cart the other bag of produce and throws it onto the scale trying to ring them together I said what are you doing and she goes you use barcode on here no look up, Then she voided my transaction and I had to start all over scanning my items. In my quest to find a supermarket out here, I must say this Acme is coming in at #1. It's only a 5 mins drive from where I live. It is clean, stocked, and organized very well and the sales are great. I've seen quite a very $1 and BOGO sales on different items like produce and meat. I definitely recommend downloading the app to take advantage of their sales, coupons, and rewards. I like the variety of items available. I have found the produce to be very fresh and there is a lot of variety. The pick-up option is really great, being able to make an order through the app is very easy and so far I haven't waited too long when picking up an order. They do not provide bags so be sure to bring your own. The associate will even pack the bags for you which I find very generous. My favorite thing about this store is how friendly everyone is. It's very genuine too, they make small talk but not in an annoying way. read more

I was shopping today at ACME store in Kenilworth, NJ and was deeply impressed by the kindness and dedication of one of your employee named Ava who made my shopping experience a very pleasant one. Ava downloaded and installed on my cell phone all the programs and apps that I needed to view and clip digital coupons a task that I could not have done myself. Ava spent a considerable amount time to set my phone up and was multi-tasking at the same time as she was helping other customers while programs were being downloaded/installed on my phone and she did all of that with a smile on her face. I don't really ever feel compelled to write a review for a supermarket. But I am so impressed with the bakery department here, I needed to share. Samantha in the bakery department is AMAZING. I walked in there completely flustered yesterday looking for a pull apart cake (a cake made of cupcakes) for a personal event that I needed that night. Nothing they had out was really appropriate and I asked if they had any plain ones without any art on them. Which they didn't, but she said she'd do it if I could wait a bit. Well.. she went ahead a quickly worked her magic. She wrote the message on the cake and decorated it perfectly. I will absolutely be returning for future events (ideally a little less flustered and with more time). Thanks Samantha! The name may have changed from A&P to Acme, but that's about it. Same understaffed deli department, identical bakery department selection, and sale prices they are more expensive than some of their competitor's regular prices. My sister who lives in the Philly area has always said how Acme is k own for their high prices, and this location certainly delivers on it. When they first opened, they did have some very good bargains, but it looks like that was just to make a good first impression. There's just nothing that really wows me about this store, it's like any run of the mill grocery store with high prices. Still, this is really the only grocery store in the area unless you want to deal with all the traffic on route 22. And it still beats Shop Rite any day of the week. read more

The general Manager this afternoon ( how she introduced herself) said that she will "kick me out" from the store if I continued back in forth with her, witch all my purchases paid ! Ahh and call the cops too ! The reason : I made a mistake during my transaction at the register and I would like to be refund. The problem: it was an Instacart purchase and they don't return any from that app. The reason : because NOT. And when I tried to explain what happened she threatened me, she said that she would insure my purchases and that I couldn't leave with anything! All PAID ! And she asked who I was to do so much arguing at the floor . I simple said : THE CUSTOMER who pays your check and the end of the day and you are stripping front of all your customer and employees! It's an OK supermarket. They carry a decent amount of healthy niche brands which is great for people with specific dietary restrictions, however, they don't really have a good selection of fresh produce. Sometimes they will be out of the most random vegetables, like zucchini or green bell peppers, cilantro or white onions. None of the staff have been willing to check the back for additional stock. They also don't carry tomatillos, period. Anyway, the main reason why they are less than average is that it was 7:40pm on New Year's Eve 2015 - they close at 8:00pm - and they were already turning customers away at the door. Absolutely horrid customer service skills at the Acme in Kenilworth, NJ. I ordered from the app for pick up, they didn't contact me to let me know there were going to be substitutions just made for me. I am on a very restricted diet so the substitutions weren't anything I could have. Thankfully I looked at the receipt before I went to pick up my groceries. I called their store, was transferred to the shipping department and when I asked for a refund I was told "well you're not getting a refund till tomorrow bc I can't do that" I then asked to speak with a manager and was transferred to the Starbucks for some reason. The girl at Starbucks couldn't figure out how to transfer me so she just hung up on me. I called back and asked to speak with a manager. The very unprofessional manager named Brian came on the line and told me "I can see if someone from that department is still here but if not, you're going to have to wait until tomorrow bc I don't know how to do that". Ummmmm, aren't you the manager Brian?!?! He then put me on hold and came back and said that he will personally refund me the money (all of a sudden he knows how to do it?). So far, we haven't seen anything from the bank nor have we gotten anything in writing through email from Acme, that the order was canceled. I am disgusted and thoroughly disappointed in Acme for this! I'll go back and deal with the crowds at shop rite...at least I know my orders will be correct and their customer service skills are on point at all times! DO BETTER ACME! read more

This name makes me giggle as I picture Wile E Coyote shopping here to find a trap for the Road Runner. In my neck of the woods, this is a Shaw's brand supermarket. MyMixx rewards even worked here and you could tell by the style of the packaging and brands that it was the same brand. Similar to the Shaw's in my area, including the items and prices on items. They did have some interesting brands that we don't see here. We mainly went to get essentials for the hotel stay but I did somehow end up with some chocolate marshmallow cookies from a new to me brand. Store was a bit messy but overall, not bad. I was surprised they had a Starbucks in the store. Both times we were there the line was too long so we didn't stop but that's nice to have in store for sure. read more

They cleaned this place up since it was a&p, not saying it's clean it's just not looking like an abandoned building inside now. I'm glad they seemed to hire the majority of the a&p employees which is nice. As far as the store goes it's just your average supermarket shoprites cheaper, but way more crowded, although it's about even in wait time because shoprite has every register open and here you are lucky if there are 4 and they removed the self checkout. I'm also a foodie and usually shop at Whole Foods and farmers markets so I guess take my review with a grain of salt. If you are not big on organic foods or high quality produce and ingredients this probably is a great place. read more

I don't do any of my big weekly shopping here because the selection isn't great and the prices are high. This supermarket is located on a direct path home for me so I often have to stop to pick up a couple of staples or something for a recipe. I have many frustrations with this store. 1) There is never anyone behind the fish counter and I often have to walk away. Otherwise, I have to wait several minutes for someone to notice me. 2) there is never enough staff at the deli section. I wait to long. 3) There are no self-checkouts so you have to wait in a corral if you have 10 items or less. Worse yet, they don't enforce the 10 item max limit. This evening, I stood behind a person who had 23 items. My frustration is what caused me to finally write this review. 4) Often there aren't any baskets if you only wanted to pick up a few items. 5) The employees never seem happy. Nobody is happy. The good new is this place is never crowded and there is always plenty of parking. Unfortunately, the place where I do my big shopping is across the other end of town and not conducive for me to stop for a quick item or two on my way home. So with that said, I'll still stop by when I have to. read more

It's clean and usually pretty empty, but that's probably because it is 20-40% more than any other grocery store. This is the Whole Foods of average supermarkets. I literally cannot justify shopping here despite living 3 minutes away. The same products I buy in other stores (name brand or store brand) are substantially more expensive. That being said the Orchid selection is very nice and the floral dept as well as the other staff I've encountered are all very helpful, professional and friendly. The Starbucks was closed one randomly at 12:30 on the weekend, not sure why but it was the only time it happened. No matter what time of the day, there are long lines at the check out. They don't have enough cashiers working there but they sure have plenty of workers gathering around the customer service area have never ending conversations. Look over to the speedy check out lines, all three lines are not any shorter than regular lines, could it be because their friendly cashiers continue the conversations with the customers after transactions are completed? Does ACME believe in efficiency?? Train the managers then train the staffs! read more

One week they have your item, and the next week it's not there anymore! They forget to put your item in the bag! One week it was my Chicken, and the following week it was my paper towels. I had to drive all the way back to the store to collect them! The second time l told the manager I want you to give me those paper towels free! And they did! I hate their buy one get one free! It is true no self check out but they have alot of lanes up on peak hours. Also they have a Starbucks inside! Second time in here not bad. For some reason we don't believe in replenishing items in this store. Every time I come here, I always leave without something I really needed. I live very close to the store so its convienent for me to go to. I dont know why i keep going though..i get angry every time im there. There is never more then 2 registers open..even in peak times. The people at the register are soooo slow and dont even bag your groceries. I have purchased spoiled meat from there atleast 3 times. They have the cheapest bags ever they rip every single time. THIS REVIEW IS FOR THEIR ORDER PICKUP. First time using this...right now all supermarket online ordering is a mess due to virus, that is expected. The problem was with pick up. Received notice order was ready. Parked in pick up spot, notified them, waited ...then was told come into store no one available to bring out. Go to customer service...desk girl says, "oh, go down there to first double doors and tell them." This is the exit doors of the north side of store. No one there. But. There are open shelves with bags on them some had my initials on them. Also other wall has fefrigerators some bags inside them, not all in one though with initials too. There is also a scanner there on the table????? Ask again at service desk, girl says, "we have nothing to do wi that"...WHAT? IT I INSIDE THR ACMES STORE AND WAS ORDERED ON YOUR SITE, WTH. Could get no help, we just took bags with our initials. Could have taken everything nothing supervised or checked, no receipt listing what is in the bags or not. BS SETUP. I was forced to leave a cart with $80 worth of groceries at the service counter last night because i did all my shopping only to find out there wasnt basil in the entire store, which i absolutely needed! Since i had to drive all the way to shoprite just for basil i felt dumb giving acme the money then having to drive to shoprite just for basil. That's what i told the lady at the counter and nobody cared. Not even a bat of an eyelash. So off i went. A&P was alot better at being a supermarket. I love the market, but the bathrooms are disgusting! The woman's room is very dirty, never maintained, 2 out of the 4 stalls have been out of order for months and tonight there was a dirty toilet bowl scrubber on the sink where you are supposed to wash your hands! Not sure how health inspectors pass that part of the store. Makes me wonder about the cleanliness of behind he scenes at the market. read more
