Tons of fresh produce and meats at affordable prices is the main goal. Non perishables are also in abundance at slightly elevated prices. Given where this market is situated, that's a small price to pay outside a concentrated area with more price competition. The parking lot offered plenty of parking even on Saturday afternoon right before a major holiday. read more

Dazzling, endless assortment of... everything. Anything you need in produce (familiar to exotic, even think about growing your own Chinese broccoli or bok choi next year with seeds); frozen prepared buns, balls, dumplings or shumai; very specific cooking utensils to sake serving sets; sweets and spices from Vietnam to Philippines; shabu shabu cuts to bull balls (not kidding); maybe best of all is the seafood department with many species including some live. This is a solid local supermarket with fair pricing on produce and meats. The seafood section offers a wide variety, and both the frozen and snack aisles are consistently well-stocked with everything you need. A nice bonus is the "fresh" Dim Sum, which was probably brought in from NYC. The store is clean, and the staff is always friendly. read more

Gold Valley Supermarket is a bit of a jewel in the rough. Located in an unassuming strip mall, the inside teems with a wide variety of Asian food choices. My kids love going to discover new sweets, such as flavors of Pocky you don't find elsewhere, and I like the old-school snacks like peanut bars, seaweed, sesame sticks and spicy roasted lima beans. (I haven't worked up to the balut yet.) There's an incredible variety of rice and noodles, as you might expect, but even within a specific type, there's quite a choice! The store is largely self-serve, and a bunch of the most intriguing soup and ramen flavor packets lack English translations, but they do have a live seafood section. We stop by almost every time we drive by for a doctor's appointment. read more

This place has been a great place to find hard to find Asian Staples and horded items during the pandemic. I recently been coming here more for my large puppy. I make him treats out of animal organs. the guy in the meat section was able to reserve us cow bones. the bones are usually chopped up with the band saw for bone broth or soup. I do notice meat and organ meat are more affordable than any butcher place around the area. read more

Well, you have your classic Asian supermarket. Boxes littered across the floor. Shelves are askew. Organization of products are confusing. Prices are hard to see and a TON of asian sauces and meats. This is a decent market for what is available. Honestly, in there area this is probably the only one any way so one doesn't have much of a choice. I was able to get some snacks and cooking tools but I didn't find the prices to be that desirable. The bakery was also second hand and their dim sum looked...questionable. Which was fine because no one was willing to service me anyway despite me standing at the counter for a while. I'm not sure I will come back because there is a better one south of this place that is equidistant from my house. Perhaps if I was already in the neighborhood and needed something but meh. read more

Gold Valley is a wonderful Asian market, located quite close. I no longer have to schlep to 99 Ranch in JC or that awful place on RT10. While I haven't sampled the hot food, the produce is inexpensive and good quality, the frozen food terrific (I always have various dumplings, gyoza, and scallion pancakes in the freezer for drop-ins), and the bottled condiment selection is as mind blowing as it is cheap. read more

I used to live in Southern California and the south Bay Area where 99 Ranch and Lion Markets are common. When I moved a bit further north to the Peninsula area, I found myself just far enough away from these large Asian markets that with California traffic, the trips weren't worth it. The last thing I expected was finding the convenience of those stores less than 10 minutes away when I moved to my boyfriend's home in the suburbs of New Jersey. Now I get to get my Asian fix weekly and I'm back to cooking dishes I loved growing up on. The store itself is decently sized with an equally decent selection. I've also always been super impressed by the employees I've interacted with as they really do seem to care about their customers. I am grateful for this store so much in fact that when I've been looking at places to move to, whether they are close to Gold Valley or not is an important consideration. read more

Being of Filipino descent, I always need vinegar on hand and not just any kind but of a brand called Datu Puti. I used to hoarde this and other precious ingredients from Asian supermarkets several miles away but finally, I don't need apocalyptical mentality. This place is just a few blocks from my house if I'm desperate enough to walk while it has plenty of parking. Upon entering, I was wowed by the amount of Asian and "specialty" produce- like over 10 types of pears, persimmon, durian, dragonfruit, bok choy, bean sprouts, jicama, and more. Their meat selection boasted cow feet, duck gizzards, and cow pizzle! Their seafood selection seemed freshy-fresh but needed some labels. While it's obvious that they're still stocking shelves and filling in details, I can't hide my excitement about this place! read more

I stumbled upon this grocery store after dropping off my daughter at the nearby Chinese school, which is great because I can come here every time she has class. The grocery store was bigger than I expected and one that is more convenient than the other Chinese grocery store on Rte 22 in North Plainfield. They have a decent fresh veg section that would be comparable to Kam Man in East Hanover in terms of prices. I would come here more for staple pantry products and meat/seafood products; didn't find any great quality meat for hot pot. They have a large selection of products that cater to Chinese, Filipino, Vietnamese and Latin consumers. In the middle, they sell pre-made dishes like dim sum plates, bakery items, and cold dishes; only good if you're in a rush or can't make it to the restaurant. The quality of the dim sum dishes are ok and not worth the price. I bought the "fu xi fei pian (I can't spell)" and it was just doused with chili oil, so not much flavor. I had to reseason and add herbs when I got home. read more

Gold Valley Supermarket overall has a great choice of selection in comparison to Kam Man in East Hanover. There are some products that cost a little bit more (ie: tofu, dried oysters) but there are other items that are cheaper than Kam Man. I didn't buy it but I love that they have a selection of fish balls that you can buy by the pound. Great for hotpot! Overall, I would recommend buying from here and if you don't mind traveling a little further away from Kam Man! read more

Not my favorite Asian supermarket but it's the only one that's close to me. The supermarket has been here for only a few years but it looks pretty run down. A lot of it has to do with the bad lighting. The vegetables just aren't displayed well and often look like they're about to go bad. It just doesn't look clean or inviting inside. I also feel like the frozen foods here don't have a good turnover rate so make sure you check all of the expiration dates before purchasing. I really only buy snacks here and would say the selection is pretty solid. This is an okay Chinese supermarket and I'm glad it's around but there are definitely improvements that can be made. read more

Gold Valley has been a good place for our family grocery since its open for a few years. They have a good selection of fresh veggies, meat, sea food, and a huge collection of frozen packages. But recently, the dumpling wraps have seen small mold spots two weekends in a row. It could be from manufacturer. It could be from their shipping and storage. I couldn't see the spots until I bought home and opened the package. Take a photo and zoom in. You will see the mold. It's not dust. read more

Good selection of Chinese vegetables and other stables. Came to check out the hot foods section which no longer exists, bummer.. There is a selection of some dim sum like har gow, dried shrimp crepes, etc. freshly packed. Did get a 4 pack of di bao (big buns) which were just like Chinatown's. No longer has takeout rice dishes. Roast pork, bbq pig no longer available, soo disappointing. Fresh meat department is open where I bought chopped pork ribs to make ow see pi gwot. Has some items that Kan Man doesn't have and visa versa, Kan Man has a better baked goods selection. read more

As I write this review Gold Valley Supermarket has only been open for about 4 months (according to the cashier I asked) so things may change over the next half year or so as this place ramps up. I was recently driving through this part of Springfield and I was surprised when I saw the old supermarket that used to be in this area was replaced with an Asian market! Having grown up using Asian ingredients in my cooking, I'm always on the lookout for a new Asian market to visit, especially one that is within a reasonable driving distance of my home and this definitely fit the bill. This market is perhaps the most organized Asian market I've ever been in. When you first enter you're greeted with a good sized produce section. A lot of what they have skews towards an Asian audience so it's less salad mixes and cauliflower and more Asian Pears and Bok Choi. To me this is awesome since Asian greens are not easy to find in my parts and I love having them as part of my meals. As you keep moving through the aisles you'll find a very large freezer section, taking up both sides of an entire aisle. The items offered range from dumplings to noodles to Asian desserts. They also carry some more Western product including a vegetarian section. Zig zagging through the aisles you'll find an end cap dedicated to Pocky (I had no idea there were so many kinds!), snacks, sauces and more. I keep stressing "Asian market" and not Chinese because they carry ingredients from other parts of the world. Indeed, once you go to the meat section you'll find freezer units with items ranging from dumplings to silkworm pupae! Towards the edge of the store is a seafood and meat section where you can order by the pound or buy prepackaged meats. There is a small section dedicated to baked goods, both sandwich rolls and Chinese style buns. These are shipped in from Elmhurst, NY (a hub of Chinese businesses) but I didn't get to try one yet. The staff was very nice but they seemed to be super busy in the midst of restocking when I visited so I didn't bother them too much. Price-wise everything struck me as average. There were no crazy bargains to be had, but nothing was outrageously priced either. I'm super happy about this market but I am hoping they open up a steam table or BBQ Chinese meats section. There's an entire section in the middle of the market full of cooking equipment that isn't being used right now. I definitely plan on going back to see what changes down the road! read more

I was there this morning for the first time. I usually go to Kam Man in East Hanover, but from what I read in the reviews - this place had better prices and more of a selection. This store is huge - bigger than Kam Man - but most of the extra space is taken up by "International" foods - other than Asian. They also have more household items than Kam Man. As for prices being better - I have to say no. The prices here - based on a few items I picked up that I have purchased at Kam Man in the past few months - were higher than Kam Man. Not only that, but this place doesn't have the same selection of prepared food that Kam Man has. Kam Man is more like a Chinatown NYC store, where Gold Valley is more of a suburban international food store. Fresh produce, fish and meat departments were comparable to Kam Man. Reasonable price, very clean place and friendly staff. I always pick up fresh fruits and veggies here, my favorite section here is the fish section. My husband and I finally found time to swing by this new market on a Saturday afternoon and were incredibly surprised and delighted by our experience! The market is HUGE, much bigger than the market I usually visit in East Hanover. Everything is well organized and well displayed. The prices are actually good - not "good for NJ" with 30-50% markup, but actually like comparable to Manhattan Chinatown! A great variety of Asian ingredients are represented here; I feel that you can get the basics for just about any Asian cuisine. I personally picked up galanga powder for Malaysian beef rendang (couldn't find the lemongrass), pork back bone for Chinese congee, all kinds of instant noodles for my lazy days (egg noodles, rice vermicelli, wide rice noodles, etc), and a bottle of Tiger Balm oil amongst other things. I will definitely make this my go-to market for Asian ingredients, cuts of meat I can't find at a regular market, and Asian produce! While I very much enjoyed my leisurely stroll up and down the aisles, I do hope that this market gets more customers, so they can get their ready-to-eat section up and running! My wish list includes Chinese bbq, bahn mi, and steamed buns. read more

Has a good selection of produce and pretty much anything you would want for a chinese home cooked meal. Fiance and I cook chinese food 7 nights a week. We were in the area and needed groceries so we stopped in...A lot of our stuff went bad within only a day or two of purchasing but just wasn't worth the half hour trip back so not worth returning.... Staff was very nice and accommodated my requests for smaller amounts of produce ie the HUGE bag of pre packaged ginger - I knew I wasn't going to go through all of that nearly fast enough and have NO idea who could....So the gentleman working the area unwrapped it, broke me off some, re-weighed and re-packaged for me. Good frozen selection as well as spices, meat, and fish. However, I never buy fish or meat from asian grocers (too many bad experiences with it being bad or going bad shortly after purchasing) so I can't speak to the quality. read more

Open just a bit more than two weeks, Gold Valley wasn't fully stocked on my visit this morning, but does show promise as an Asian grocery. It is larger, cleaner and brighter than the general run of Union County Asian markets, but also appears to be a bit more expensive. The emphasis at Gold Valley seems to span Chinese, Filipino and Korean specialty items, whether canned, frozen, prepackaged or fresh, with lesser representation of Thai and Vietnamese products. This, of course, may not be the case once the store is fully stocked. Gold Valley's fish department is large and-- at this stage-- appears clean. Several of the fish, however, were clearly mislabeled, a problem which is quite common in Asian markets. The danger of paying higher prices for inferior substitutes means that it is wise to carefully identify what you are buying before your purchase is wrapped up. Time will tell whether my trips to the Asian markets of Green Brook and Parsippany will be reduced, in favor of Golden Valley. On the basis of my first visit here, that possibility does exist. A middle-of-the-road three star review for now seems fair. read more

I really like this supermarket. It has a huge selection of goods to choose from. The aisles are relatively more roomy and well lit compared some of the other Asian supermarkets I've been to. Their meat and seafood selections look fresh, clean, and nicely presented. I really enjoyed their cake and prepared food selections as well. I use to go to the Asian supermarkets in Route 22 or the one in East Hanover, but I'm so glad this fantastic option opened up for me, especially so much closer to home. They offer tons of parking spaces, so that has never been an issue either. I plan to come here a lot more often. read more
