Subzi mandi is a huge Indian grocery store consisting of fresh produce, dairy, Indian spices and a whole lot of specific things which would be otherwise hard to find at other grocery stores. The store is huge inside with a huge section of fresh produce right smack in the middle. Once you cross that, you'll find a couple of isles consisting of spices, dry food items and other products. Towards the end, they have a huge freezer section for frozen vegetables and frozen food items in general. The store has all the COVID precautions in place with the mask wearing and social distancing. The parking outside the store is ample but is not organized very well. The shopping carts are randomly thrown outside the store and were disorganized. Let's talk about the products inside the store. As always when dealing with a big grocery store, I recommend to check the expiration date before blindly purchasing any item. There were a few items in the store that were outdated and expired. The produce section was fresh and the frozen section looked properly maintained. I'd still recommend caution when buying products, which have limited shelf life, and check the expiration date and avoid the trouble of returning that item. If you're searching for typical Indian produce/ items specific to Asian authenticity, I'd suggest to give this store a try. read more

Being in Edison , we always visit Subzi mandi .. lots and lots of Indian groceries and vegetables . Very busy most of the times. We like the vegetables here . Mostly fresh. Groceries are fine too. Lots of options to choose from. Issue is with pickles and frozen items .. make sure u check the expiry dates , as I bumped into few items . We normally report it to them, and they remove it , but not sure if they put it back with a new sticker .. hope they throw it off. .. otherwise , very good customer service and we always like to shop here .. thumbs up read more

I am a regular here, they do have expired items on their selves.A couple of time on reaching home I realized the cookies, or the snack was stale or expired but I did not go back for refund as it was not worth the long drive. BUT day before yesterday I got some cookies ,when I opened it yesterday it tasted weird and on checking I realized it was expires. today I had to go to the same plaza so I took it back.the cashier was super rude and said we do not know when u bought it(as I did not have the reciept which I understand) BUT tell me why would I lie for something so petty . Sabzi Mandi is my go-to grocery for all items South Asian. They have lot of fresh produce at great prices. There is also a variety of produce that you may not find at your traditional big-time store. A lot of tropical and ethnic fruits and veggies are available. They also sell a lot of products that are popular in India. Looking for Maggi noodles or Parle-G biscuits? Look no further. Looking for a great variety of Indian frozen foods? Look no further. There is a great variety of parathas, samosas, whole meals, etc. I really enjoy the variety of sauces and pickles that are available as well. Lots of varieties of dried legumes, rice. The cashiers can be a little rude at times but I still go consistently because of the variety and prices. read more

Have not been to this store in about a year - not sure why anyone would say produce was bad because everything I saw was fresh. Lots of flours and pulses; store is well laid out and very clean. It does not have a kitchen like the big "P" store, but if you are buying ingredients for your own cooking, not ready made items, it has very reasonable prices. Good prices on shelled nuts and rice which have gotten costly in the usual American grocery stores. read more

Price gouging. They have increased prices in the past week since the Coronavirus panic set in by more than double in some cases. They are also selling tiny 8 oz bottles of hand sanitizer for $5.99 each, which is ludicrous. They are not the only Indian grocery store doing it, they all seem to be price gouging to make money at the cost of their customers. A trip to jersey is a sure stop and shop at subzi mandi. I have visited only this location several times and love it. They have fresh stocks be it lentils, rice, veggies, packed stuffs. One has a huge selection to choose from. The fresh pushy green veggies n lentils stock pushes me here every time. Parking is no pain it's on site. read more

I really like this store. I went with my friend to get some veggies, spices and henna. It was a really nice store. While there, I was speaking to my friend about one of my favorite herbs, rosemary, and one of the clerks handed me a huge bottle of it. It was really sweet of them to locate it for me without having to ask. I also really love guava and I purchased a super huge one from them. I wanted to find a pressure cooker but I didn't look really hard so i'm not certain if one was available. I would def go back here again. read more

We love Indian food and this market is an Indian food paradise. Every thing you need from fresh vegetables, spices, oils, desserts, ready to cook foods are here in abundance. Cooking pots and utensils are here also. The prices are very reasonable but it is cash and carry service. I went to Subji Mandi on Feb 24, 2023 evening and purchased a cart full of heavy groceries. My home is 86 miles away from Subji Mandi. While driving back late in the night, I realized that my gold ring with a studded precious stone was missing from my hand. I was really depressed from this loss. Next morning at 7 am I called the store number 732-603-0588, Mr. Jessi picked up the phone. I explained to him that I suspected that my gold ring slipped off my finger when I was transferring heavy grocery bags from the counter to the cart. Mr. Jessi went around the store and also the parking lot but he did not find any ring, and I lost my hope. But Mr. Jessi called me again at 9:39 am to inform me that he found the ring. I drove back to the store and Mr. Jessi gave me my lost ring. I asked him that I wish to meet the person who found it. A frail man in his seventy whom everybody in the store called "Uncleji" came to Mr. Jessi's office. He has been earning his meagre living by sweeping the floor for the last 10 years. In his eyes I could see that he has been through rough times in his life but nothing can shake his character and honesty. He found my ring while sweeping the floor and without any second thought he gave my ring to Mr. Jessi. It would be disrespectful to put a monetary value on Uncleji's character and honesty, but I shared my happiness with him that would keep him joyful for a day or more. Mr. Jessi explained to me that he always tries to return the customers' belongings whenever found in the store. Mr. Jessi came to the USA in 1989 with $20 in his pocket and now he owns several large stores like this one. You can find Indian groceries in many stores but you will find Uncleji only in this Subji Mandi. I have one regret that I forgot to take his picture, now you all have to visit the Subji Mandi to meet this man of character. read more

Don't buy instant Maggi cup noodles or any other cup noodles products here, they are mostly expired. They rub and remove the expiry dates printed on the cups. Few snacks like lays chips, chev etc., they sell it for very cheap discounted prices, again those items are expired/ stinky unedible. read more

I'm always happy in the Subzi Mandi markets. This one is a little larger than it's nearby sister stores. The staff is always helpful, and the store is brightly lit and clean with a large selection of products at very competitive prices. The only reason it isn't 5 stars is because I'd like to see more grass-fed dairy products. There is a dairy in NJ that produces ghee from grass-fed cows, but it isn't sold in the Subzi Mandi markets. read more

The weekend paking is a mess. I have shopped in all the Indian groceries in the Edison area for the last 20+ years. These guys started off as a Dump and have marginally improved since. In the old days none of the Indian groceries accepted credit cards. patel cash and cary was the best but CASH ONLY. These guys captured the market as being the first Indian grocery to accept Credit cards, then came Apna bazzar etc, etc. Now even Patel accepts credit card ( AMEX TOO). What I have notices is that Patel in spite of introducing credit cards has maintained the same prices, but APNA bazar guys are more expensive for almost most vegetables, I guess some people don't recognize the difference or don't car. Also the vegetables arn' fresh, its like a dumping ground and most of us avoid Sunday due to the mobs who invade these places, if you go on week days you get the left overs of what someone has canabalized on the weekend. For now I only shop at Patel cash and carry & Apna Bazar which seem far better to this place. read more

I think among Indian ( Subzi mandi ) stores this one in oak tree road ranks the top. One thing I've recently noticed is that some of the staff, doesn't even know or don't care what a good customer service is. They just throw the stuffs in the shopping bag, always chating with their co-workers. They sometimes behave like they are the owners of the shop. When I was in Union I used to shop in the subzi mandi in oak tree road, iselin, NJ. Now Since I moved to Edison, I stopped shopping in oak tree road subzi mandi, because of their attitude. I get a better customer service and good products in patidar in Durham avenue and also a new subzi mandi in stelton road. If someone is really looking for good customer service, I would recommend the patidar in durham avenue and subzi mandi in stelton road. So the subzi mandi in Oak tree road in Iselin ( NJ ) is not a good choice to shop and you will end up getting a louzy customer service. read more

Billing counter ladies are very unprofessional. We are buying stuff and paying them. The ladies stare at their clients as if they saw some new animal in the zoo. What I hate there is: 1) While billing these ladies are not paying attention or they are talking among themselves. Munching something while they are on their job. Its really not acceptable. Whenever we ask anything, they are least bothered to answer. 2) Most of the items are outdated. I bought a pickle. When I got home the seal was broken already. This should be reported to the consumer court. 3) 0% cleanliness. If you check the pickle, jam, or spices section you'll come to see the dust laid up there. read more

Horrible owner!! My mother went to purchase grapes for $6.85. When she gave the lady her cc the machine was not working right so she went to another cc machine and swiped the card. When she was finished she asked the lady if the first transaction might have gone though and charged her twice she said no. A week later my mother asked me to go online and check her balance. When we looked we noticed that she was charged twice for the grapes and drove down to the store. The woman who rang her up remembered and told the owner but he refused to credit her card. He said he had to search for the receipt in the back 45 min. later and shes still waiting!!! I was yelling and then he said he would call her after he found it. Never happened!! I called to complain. She has her statement but still refuses to refund freaken $6.85!!!! Yelling on the phone that it didnt happen!!! I called the bank and they are going to refund the amount. Watch out for the shady business practices of this business....beware of any items that have been marked down and/or on sale particularly packed items such as Indian snacks and rice. The manager of this store knowingly sells bad, smelly and rancid fried snacks by marking down the price to 1/3rd the price to trap innocent and trusting customers to fall prey....when you buy a discounted grocery item at ShopRite for instance it is not because the item is rotten and inedible, however at this place buyers beware....disgusting business practices and a very poor reflection of the greedy and unethical business practices....I will stick with Patel Brothers in the future! read more

This is such a pathetic stores which does not care about the consumer... looks like they are here only to make money.. Today we bought a tedley tea pack which was packed in 2009 ( which had "best within 12 months from packed date" written on it )... . fortunately we had a look on the date before opening.. Even though we have to be aware of this as a consumer, it sounds ridiculous to see a stores which does not care about the consumers .. also last week we bought a methi parotta which was already in a spoiled state when we opened on the same day...
