The issue is the horrible checkout lines in the evening. Confusing, roped off, lanes are hard to access. People are cutting in line. Cashiers are SLOW and very unfriendly. Not enough lines open. They do not call for more help either. Nobody seems to care. Frustrated Customers were throwing stuff down and just leaving.. TJ Maxx has the perfect snake line. No cutting, always moving. I don't know why this is so hard for them to figure out. Also, the fitting rooms are locked. I asked an associate for help and she just walked off with another employee. I have been to other locations and have not had this bad experience. I don't know how they are going to survive the coming holiday rush. They can't handle it now. Also, There seems to be nobody in charge there. I wouldn't show my face either if this was my store. Embarrassing!!

If you can't find what you need, Route 22 awaits where everything else you could want is out there. Of course beware of weekends as everyone comes out. Best thing about this shopping center is also the back access from Liberty Ave./Morris Ave. so Route 22 isn't even necessary as that itself is often filled with traffic. Yup Union Plaza is great.

Again as this is my preferred Marshalls, there is pretty sizable amount of Men's clothes here which is good if is decent priced but a cut above say going to Target or Wal-mart. Like Many other Discount stores, such another I frequent - Forman Mills, they have this practice of only a few registers going so lines enter into the 10's and it though it moves steadily, it could be faster. I've always had both good in-store and drive-up shopping experiences at this location. Also, to me, it seems to be better inventory stock than other Targets; the app usually recommends the Route 22 as a nearby location that has what I'm looking for. Target staff who bring out drive-up orders have always been friendly, too. The only con is driving here, but once you get into the lot, there's ample parking.

T&M female customer service was completely inaccurate. I explicitly told her it's 3rd floor but steps on each flight is just a couple steps. She quoted me $100 for delivery 12/31. This unprofessional guy showed up with his daughter or something, told us we needed to pay $140+ because of the stairs. We only had $100 cash, and told him the lady told me $100. He called the lady for her to tell me what she thought our conversation was... as if to solidify that was correct? He acted all tough and so ghetto and we didn't want any problems so my husband told him he'd need to go to ATM after. This guy and this little girl hoists the sofa up, and then tells us they can't fit the couch in. I told my husband to make sure they try the most optimal angle. and I over hear him on the phone telling my husband that he already knows what I am saying and he knows better. He then hurries my husband and tell him it's NYE and he's not even supposed to be working and he has a long drive. How is that our problem that you decided to work and drive long on NYE? He told us he'd leave the couch outside for $100 flat or he can take it back to the store but still pay him the $140+. He insinuated he's doing us a favor and that he's losing out. And my husband rightfully told him that isn't the case because he's getting $140+ while we don't get any services rendered/no couch. He was very aggressive towards my husband. My husband told him he needs to go to ATM, and the guy told him he will follow him to the bank with his truck because he doesn't know what stunt my husband would pull on him. A week later, I come back home, and we bought the same couch from a different Big Lot's location... guess what? We were able to maneuver the couch inside the home ourselves, just with logic, physics, and common sense. This was the most unprofessional ghetto conversation we've ever had from any servicing or trucking company.

And while I've never been a huge fan of Big Lots I do enjoy browsing their many aisles of household items, pictures with cute sayings, small furniture items, food, cleaning products and other things. I've hardly gone in there for a specific purpose. It was usually after coming from Ikea and more or less visited to browse and shop for items I really didn't need. The items they have, appear to be fairly priced and I guess you can find an awesome bargain or two if you come at the right time so I can imagine they have their own base of dedicated customers. I've taken kindly to the store in Union. It appears to be clean but scarce. I mean it's generally like somewhat of a ghost town in there - certainly nothing to complain about in these times of Covid but while the customers are scarce so are the employees and their shelf items. My last pic shows a part of the store that has quite a bit of open space with no items. I've been here several times since they opened and nothing has changed so I doubt their expecting a large shipment to fill the area. Their food section is kinda sad...nothing like the one in Elizabeth which is stocked for days. Keep in mind this store is not tiny. It's in the same shopping area as Target, neighboring Dick's Sporting Goods and if anyone has been in this town for years like me- it's the old Babies R' Us (I can't remember what store it was after that) Upon reaching the register the one employee who was in the store was there ringing up customers. She appeared to be kind and professional. While the store is generally pretty sparse, this time it seemed all 8 customers that were in the store were waiting to be checked out. Not a good look for Big Lots considering the one cashier worked as quickly as she could to efficiently get the customers on their way. I waited in line for a good 15 minutes. Normally I wouldn't fault Big Lots for this...I mean 4:00 pm on a Monday it shouldn't be really busy but it was Martin Luther King Jr. day - a holiday when many people have off from work and go shopping so yea, they should have known better and done better. Despite my complaints I'll be back. It's the only place I can find my Crystal Geyser water these days and for that I'm extremely grateful. They have huge sections of clothes (women/men/children), shoes, housewares, small appliances, media (video/music/books), toys, games, and even a small section with furniture. The prices are MUCH better than what I had recently seen at a different store. They do have a parking lot, which gets fairly busy, but I've always found a space. To drop off items for donation, you can just bring you car to the front of the shop, and there are large plastic bins where you can place your items. There is usually an employee there who can advise you, and can also give you a slip to fill out for tax deductions. Tip - If you do drop off items for donation, they have been giving out coupons you can use in the store too. We were able to get an additional 20% off this way!

Ahh, this strip mall has been around for a really long time, even longer before I was born in the…read moreextreme early 90s. When I was a little toddler in Garwood, my dad would take me out here just to walk around. There was an "open space" area with visible steel structures where I used to just run around briefly during those times. Today, that "open space" is still there. This strip mall has two anchor stores. Since the early 90s, those anchor stores were Walgreens and Kings. During the 90s, they had some other notable stores that I remember either going into or passed by when I was little. Those stores included Radio Shack, Encore Books (I bet a lot of you during those times remember this store!), Dress Barn, an Eye DR place, a liquor store, and a laundromat. The roof tops on the strip mall were green, and some green circles were visible on some parts of the strip mall as well. The parking lot is huge, and reasonably sized for all of the patrons here. The parking lot is also for patrons only, since they don't like commuters parking for the purpose of boarding trains. In the 90s, the parking area revealed a lot of old, faded parking stripes and designs, which proved that the parking layout was different long before I existed. But fast forward to today, the old parking decals are long gone, and the lot itself is quite smoother than before. Today, the stores that are still in business since the 90s include Kings, Dress Barn, an Eye Dr place (with different name), and a laundromat. Encore Books was gone and the space was probably taken over by Pet Valu. Walgreens moved further down the road, and Crunch Fitness took their former spot, thus making them an anchor. The liquor store got replaced by GNC. The steel structures were covered up in the "open space" area. The roof tops are still green today, as well as the circles, except for the one circle on top of Investors Bank. Not sure why that was painted with a different color. Overall, this strip mall serves the purpose of catering to the patrons in a very small town. I've never had an issue with parking here at all. Walking from one end of the strip mall to the other is pleasant. But be patient when trying to make a left turn into the strip mall from South Avenue as the opposing traffic can be very hectic at times. Cheers!

I aslo had a good experience with the pre-check lady but did not get her name. She was very friendly. I did not deal directly with the associate Cory, but he was nice as well. Excellent team there today. However, I had a great experience with the associate Ireona. Her recommendations, quick thinking, patience, and sincerity resulted in my changing my mind. I have only ever done my eye exam there. I have never purchased any contacts or glasses prior. Ireona is the sole reason I not only decided to purchase my contacts (year supply) there but also glasses with prescription. I am extremely happy with my purchases. Great job Ireona. Thank you.
