The best Walmart in southcentral for being clean, employees who act like they want to keep their jobs, well stocked and better variety than Anchorage or Wasilla. Wasilla store will say "Walmart doesn't carry that anymore" and Eagle River has a shelf full. The additional bonus is way fewer sketchy customers in the store than Anchorage or the Valley. read more

The employees at the liquor store were the most rude disgusting individuals that we have EVER met in entire lives!!! They completely lied!!!! we are 59 years old and one of us did not have our ID. I walked out and they were rude and awful to my friend and wouldn't sell it to her and then we sent our husbands in and they did not ID them they said they did but they actually did not so they lied, I accidentally left my ID in the car. June 2024 Accused of bringing thieves to store. Gave a ride to Walmart one of my friends, friend. he had taken full cart of unpaid items to my car and couldn't get in. I said we all adults here I'm not responsible for him. I was asked to leave. FINE! July 2024 accident I am now in a wheelchair. Between June 2024 and December 2024, I have shopped at Wallyworld multiple times. December 24, 2024, 4pm my family and I agree to have A LAST-MINUTE XMAS CELEBRATION My g/f and I head to store. We have till 6pm and the store closes, it is 4:05, I got dinner and she has gifts. We smile at each other as she pushes her cart towards household and i steer my electric walmart shopping cart towards the food area. 5:50 pm, I survey my overflowing electric cart basket and feel a small sense of pride as I review all the items in my cart, happy i accomplished what i did in that amount of time. i am checking out! 6 pm all stores are closed for Xmas. Here comes the same neanderthal as before spewing off with the hole in his face about 86th, theft, and trespassing. I am told I was not to have come back there and am not allowed to be there. My cart is confiscated with all my items and i'm followed to the door. I am a true hater of liars and thieves, now i am being accused of being one of them! I cannot deny the rage I feel about this incident as all my rights were violated. Night manager needs a lesson in etiquette and it should be provided to him. i think this more warrants termination over anything with all things considered. Xmas eve, watched me for two hours and then make a move. When the initial incident happened, I was never told to never come back, I was just asked to leave. In summary I am 86th from Walmart because I "bring thieves to steal from that store. Yeah thats ignorant. When I consulted with an attorney I was told to bring it to corporates attention, and see what there reaction was. I got on the corporation website and could not find an avenue even to submit about anything. So what shall I do about this? read more

This may be the cleanest Walmart I've ever been to, definitely the cleanest in Alaska. I went in at 12am after a planned 7 hour hike turned into an 11 hour hike. There aren't many places to get food late at night in the Anchorage Bowl, but this Walmart is open till 1am! It was a surreal experience wandering the aisle at midnight, watching employees clean. I bought three navel oranges, wasabi almonds, and black bean crisps. Dinner of champions! Protip: don't do an irresponsible parking lot maneuvers here...the cops like to hide out in the parking lot. The Eagle River Walmart gets 5 stars and receives an 'A' for effort. We have been visiting this store since they opened many years ago. This is one of the best stores of its kind in Alaska. There have been a few times things weren't great but overall when considering the thousands of products, all the employees and the hundreds of people they serve each and everyday, we appreciate having them in the coolest town in Alaska, Eagle River! Don't buy anything that you may have to return to this location. Their night crew manager basically picks and chooses who gets to return what. Receipt in hand literally matching the item. You can always find a nice parking spot at this location. This is your typical Walmart, except less crowded. This store is cleaner than most Walmarts I've been to. My only complaint is that there aren't many registers open and so check out can get really slow. read more

Recently purchased an expense pair of headphones with the protection plan. Almost immediately the headset stopped working. They refused to take the product back and forced me to use the warranty policy. When I said "This protection policy seems useless as it would be faster for me to contact the manufacturer" the employee laughed and agreed with me. In short, they basically confirmed that their policy is a rip off and laughed about it. I've never been a fan of Walmart's, but this was the rudest encounter I've ever had, and I will never be shopping here again. I should mention that I was military in uniform, so any perception that they support troops is a total fallacy. Please don't support them. Go to target down the highway instead. read more

I'm from the lower 48 and I been to Eagle River in 2019 and 2020 and I been to this Walmart several times. The customer service is outstanding, everyone smiling, staff always says hello and the store is so organized and clean. I wish I could clone you guys and bring you to Chesapeake, VA, the Walmart here is a totally different story, which could not compare to you guys. Keep up the OLD FASHION customer service. They decided to enact the 09/15 Anchorage plastic bag ban a day early, with no advance word!! Some of us walk home with groceries, so it would have been nice if they'd have not taken it upon themselves to start this a day early. I don't mind bringing my own bags but to just spring this on those of us that don't use a car is asinine and wrongheaded. read more

This walmart is very homey I think. A lot of reviews on the Anchorage Walmarts arent very good. Saying "too crowded" and "slow lines". go to this store often since it is on my way home from work, and often I find most of the workers there are nice and professional  all except the what I can assume was a manager. I wanted to return something and the girl called Charity or something was called to C.Services to authorize a transaction. She was rude, unprofessional and had a bad attitude. Clean and new. This is THE place for frozen anything and prepackaged food. My typical hauls are anything Tennessee honey related, sea pack shrimp and they have awesome Charlie's produce salads. They have quite an impressive makeup aisle as well. For some reason this store just seems to flow better. We can be in and out fairly quickly. I know for a fact that the Papa John's is a cruising place in the evenings. I can always find something I need here! read more

Is zero an option? Customer service is atrocious, literally some of the worst I have ever had, and not once, consistently. Bob the "Customer Service Mrg" according to his name tag has helped me twice since Memorial Day and both times did not utter a single word to me. Not one. No, " how are you today?" Or "hello" not even a thank you after I spend enough money to pay his wage for the day. I don't know whether I was lucky or the store has improved but I haven't had any negative experience at this Walmart at all. The workers here were nice and helpful. When I first came to Alaska, my phone service wouldn't work at all. In my desperation, I had no choice but to purchase Walmart's StraightTalk phone service. One of the lady at Walmart lent me her personal phone and helped me with the phone service activation process (btw, NEVER sign up with StraightTalk. The StraightTalk customer service is TERRIBLE.) If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't be able to get through it at all. To avoid the line, I often do the self checkout. Nonetheless, I can always find help from the Walmart w with the process when needed read more

This is probably the most beautiful Wal-Mart I have seen. It is slightly limited compared to other Wal-Mart's in the lower 48, but they have pretty much everything you would need or want. Also it stays pretty clean! read more

I can never seem to find anyone when I have a question. Once I stood at Electronics for 10 minutes waiting for assistance while other employees were just walking right by! I then walked from the back of the store to Customer Service to inform them, they snickered and paged for assistance. Better customer service would be great! I bought the extended warranty on a Kendal fire last year. When it stopped working this year they would not honor it.. Every time we shop at the Eagle River store when we get home stuff that we bought is GONE. I think the spinning racks are to hid stuff. This has happened 3 times to us!!! Never answers their phone. Customer service is poor. When I ask to speak to a manager there never is one available.

Arrived 10 minutes before closing and the employee at the door completely ignored me and my significant other when we were knocking on the glass. I understand we were there at the very end of their shift, but there was still 10 whole minutes. We ran to all three entrances and all were closed. We ran back to the first entrance, where we were previously ignored, the same employee looked us in the face and said "we're closed." At this point there was still 8 minutes until their posted closing time, so I said "you guys are still supposed to be open" to which they rolled their eyes at us, seemed to chuckle, and turned away. We were having a personal emergency and all the stores in Anchorage (except for Carrs which didn't have what we needed) were closed. We drove all the way out from Anchorage because this was the only Walmart that was open at 12:30 in the morning just to be locked out 10 minutes before closing and frankly blatantly disrespected by an employee. I used to work closing shift at a retail store and I know it isn't the best when costumers come in last minute, but it is NEVER okay to be that disrespectful to a customer 10 minutes before your posted closing time. read more

Out of all the Walmart's across America that i have been to, this is by far the nicest. i live in Palmer/Wasilla area and will drive the extra miles to the Eagle River location. Wasilla locks everything up like they automatically assume you're a thief, which makes shopping difficult when you can't find an associate. The whole environment of the Eagle River location is much more pleasant and calm. In my opinion, it's the best Walmart in Alaska. Not very convenient to get to, but well worth the out-of-the way placement. Very pleasant place to shop. Unlike other local stores, this location makes sure to keep the shelves stocked and never has given me the excuse "The computer orders, we have no control." as I was told in Wasilla. That's inexcusable, change your computer system then for gawd's sake, you're doing it wrong. Take the time to drive to Eagle River Walmart, you won't regret it. read more

I'm with Tracy R. on this one. She is right, half the shelves are empty and not much is correctly priced. I moved to AK in Oct. of 2012. I have complained about this location to the store manager since moving here. Little to nothing has changed in nearly 2 years. They will tell you that they are a smaller location, and that they do not carry as much product - okay, well, if the other stores carry 6 types of a particular item, and you only carry 3, why is the shelf empty and without those three items? I have been told so many times to check back in a week or two for an item, yet I'll give up after months have gone by. On July 8th 2014 I was shopping at the Debarr location because the vacuum I wanted to buy was not available in the ER location (shelf was empty), and I was told to check back in the future, as they did not anticipate having it for quite some time. While at the Debarr location that day, I was able to speak with the Regional Manager about the problems in the Eagle River location. He was very sincere and let me know that he would look into the matters that I addressed. Meanwhile, I have recently put in a complaint with the Walmart corporate office (Bentonville, AR). It's a shame to have to travel to another Walmart location for most everything because the Walmart that is conveniently located in your town, just can't seem to get their stuff together! I really wish that more people would speak up and address their concerns with Walmart, and not just one another. Sometimes I feel that some of the attitude is.... "Hey, this is Alaska, and that's just the way it is here " - Nonsense! We don't have to live in the lower 48 to have our local stores functioning properly. So please, speak up folks - so that positive change can hopefully come about. read more
