Absolutely appalled by the way management, James, treats his employees. For context, it's 5 degrees today with wind, and it's raw cold out. A young girl named Sarah came in, clearly freezing, trying to warm her hands, cheeks completely red. James, the manager, was degrading in his tone to her, in front of multiple people including customers like myself, and said "did you get all the carts?" To which she responded "I came in to try to..." and then he interrupted her again, in an aggressive tone, and said "did you get ALL the carts? Go back out there." Dude. Come on. Be a better human. I realize I don't know the back story, but I'm a leader of an organization too and this was absolutely sickening. If you needed to make a correction it should have been in private. Also- It's cold, the CARTS are not a big deal- humans are. If the carts are a big deal, put some gloves on and go help your employees- it's not rocket science. When I went out to help her because she was clearly embarrassed, she was nearly in tears. I absolutely plan to contact higher management and report this abusive behavior- by the way, multiple employees witnessed it and I have their names too. Do better. Be better. Or find another job where you don't have the privileged RESPONSIBILITY to be a leader of humans. read more

We came out to get a few things while we stay at a near by cabin. The store was very clean, i love that. The customer service... amazing. We went in for things like water, and what not and left with more. But of course we did. One thing we found coffee syrups, sugar free ones at that. They have a bigger selection then Costco so we loaded up. Now I know we can come out here and just grab some up when we need them. We left spending way more then what we planned on, but I will say we would do it again in a heart beat. read more

Three Bears is always overpriced. Then they offer Kirkland brands but Jack the prices way up! Sometimes they have the dog food I buy, and then they just don't have it for a month or more. Sadly, their pharmacy staff is just like everywhere else. They reqhire 3 days notice for a refill, but if you call more than 4 days ahead, they very rudely tell you that it's too early and accuse you of taking more than is prescribed and being irresponsible with your meds. If you ask more than one question about when you should call, or when they can refill it, they don't have time and get short with you. And, they really love to tell you that you have to call your doctor or your insurance, just don't ask them! read more

There are plenty of positives about Three Bears in Chugiak. It's nice to have a market close by for those of us who are on the outskirts of town. I think they've improved their customer service a bit since they opened, so that's a plus. They keep the store clean and organized. I like the bulk packaging of Costco products and that some of them are broken down into smaller packs too. It's a cross between the regular everyday market and Costco, which is good. The prices of the Costco items are a bit more, but you can't really gripe about that, they're buying the items from Costco, so that's a pretty easy one to figure out. Sams club closing down had a little bit of an affect on their products, but not much. Admittedly, the fact that they cut up a sheet cake and other desserts into smaller, portions and sell them individually, has been a big plus for us a few times. The liquor store has a nice selection and their growler bar is pretty awesome. The sporting goods side of the store is pretty extensive and we like to wander through every now and then. The downside for us, making it 3 stars... their beef steaks, Ribeye to be precise. We've purchased them a total of 3 times and won't do so again. The first two times were packaged, cut up steaks in a two pack and the third was an entire Prime Rib, that we cut half into steaks and left the other half as a roast. All three times, I hate to say it, they were horrible cuts of meat. They're very tough, gristley throughout... so much that they're inedible. Very sad to spend that kind of money on your favorite, regular cut of meat and not enjoy it. So now, we have ribeye in the freezer that we can't figure out what to do with because it was too tough to eat. In all reality, I'd give them 3.5 stars if I could. Anywho, they have great sales on items every week, the produce seems to always be in good shape and so far, the only problem we have is the beef. Other than that, I say go for it, grab what you need whether you live in town or passing through on your way camping for the weekend or on your way home. read more

3rd and 4th updates; Fourth update: this happened FOUR months ago and they refuse to contact me. Come to find out from the last visit we bought some mushrooms, took them home and washed them. I got a horrible rash on the back of my had that would not go away, had it for over a week. Had to get medicine to make it go away. I just had an annual appointment with my allergy doc and he said that reaction is a chemical reaction, not allergic. So they are poisoning the food with the perfume they are spraying. Thanks again for trying to kill me. Third update: manager is petty. The entire store now smells. Like they shoved smelly shit in the air intake. The smell reaches all the way to the back of the store now. It smells like a tacky port an shitter. Imagine this MF as your boss. Avoid this location at all cost. They don't care. If you want to see what life in Alaska used to be more like before box stores this is as close as it gets. One big store with every sort of thing stuffed into it. They have some interesting finds at three bears, different locations have stock when others don't. I love that they have basic gardening and hunting and food processing supplies that are such a staple of traditional Alaska culture. I also like the gun counter. Too few stores have one these days. It's worth a visit if you've never been. A different kind of shopping. Good grocery choices of fresh food. Some weird brands I'm not familiar with on the shelves. Give it a visit, you will be glad you did. read more

It a pleasant rural box store. It's not a Costco in Anchorage and it will never be one. It's clean, organized, full, bright, and has a great location outside of Anchorage on the Glenn highway near Birchwood. The staff were very friendly and the shopping experience was enjoyable. read more

This is long, long, long overdue! Last October (right after the first snowfall), my husband and I stopped in this wonderful market in Alaska. Most of the town was shut down, but this market was open and very busy. The staff was lovely, the huge selection of items outstanding, but the the real standout was Cane. Cane showed us various items in the "outdoor" section including a personal one and couldn't have been nicer, so polite, and provided stellar information on the product. Our experience in the area was truly unique and memorable and in large part due to Cane and Three Bears Market! read more

Really, really love this store! There is a lot here. The prices in my opinion are lower than most stores. Maybe the Three Bears brand might be a bit high, but worth it. Frozen and drink section is extensive and the meat section is wonderful. They had some products I haven't seen any where else. We only spent a little over $60 and came out with five bags full of food. I'm pretty much sold on coming here to get a variety of items that I could get somewhere else but now will get only here from now on. Its kind of hard to write a review on this place due to the different variables here. On one hand, the groceries are great - they sell a lot of Costco products but unfortunately at Costco giant sizes. I guess folks in these parts need 20 lbs of garlic salt. On the other hand, like the previous reviewer stated, the men in this store are downright rude. With ONE exception, the older guy, all of the men are just plain nasty. I asked one if they had a smaller jar of coconut oil and he said - I kid you not - "Well I guess I can go look." The male cashiers will not greet you, not smile at you, will not thank you for coming. Two of them won't even look you in the eye. The ladies are the polar opposites - they genuinely act like you are not the big inconvenience you are to the boys. If I could give no stars I would everyone I know talked about this place I decided since I was around and not by base I'd try this establishment everything was fine till I get to the register and asked this guy if he was open IMED states " uh yeah " after rolling his eyes and giving an attitude I simply stated okay then during checkout he states " NEXT TIME leave the big stuff in the cart" with another attitude I stated okie dokie then at the end of it and it's time for me to pay I ask him what's the max amount I can cash out he says "um $40 but I don't like when people do it and I don't prefer you to do it but if you do it then it's whatever I just don't like it" I simple stated well ok got my cash back and left and because of that one employee you betcha I won't be EVER. You can sometimes find good deals here. Some of the staff are very friendly and then there's others that can be extremely rude. Sometimes I can find some good deals but for the most part it's way overpriced. I notice they sometimes have items out that are over a week expired. So check your labels if you're worried about that. She was so rude to my boyfriend AND me and we went in at separate times and we're both like WOW that lady is really really rude. She shouldn't be in customer service. Their customer service sucks! They will avoid you at all costs. I had to go all the way into the liqueur department to even find anyone willing to help me. The young man there in a Cowboy hat was helpful. And even though he didn't know what I was asking for (a baking implement ) he was fast to find someone else who still had absolutely no clue. But he tried and I applaud him for it. On a second trip I attempted to ask a question from a cashier and she told me "it wasn't her job to find it for me" Wow totally rude! A very clean, friendly store. They have a lot of things in bulk similar to Costco, but also many smaller sizes too. Can find many different items not available at other grocery stores. A true bonus to get your growler filled as well. I have gotten many good recommendations on the beers and they are spot on. Again, the people are very friendly and accommodating.
