I have no idea what this is... should be fun!

I wanted to add something to my previous reviews that I failed to mention. This store is OUSTANDING when you're looking for bulk spices and seeds. At Christmas when I'm making bulk batches of cookies and other items that use unusual, typically expensive spices and seeds, I check here first. I buy HUGE BAGS of cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods, sesame seeds, etc much cheaper than anywhere else in Anchorage. I save about $100 by doing my shopping for these items here, but as always, check the expiration dates on anything you buy here before purchasing.

If you're looking for something unique and/or weird and/or different and/or hard to find...and you don't to pay New Sagaya prices: this is the place for you! It's a great place for spices, sauces, and noodles. It's a great place for nearly anything/everything to cook foods from the continent of Asia. Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, etc. If Freddie's is failing you and you're not baller enough for Sagaya, go here. The space is extremely cramped and tight, though. You should definitely wear a mask during these trying times!

Korean mini supermarket. It has a good variety of Korean groceries and produce. Vegetables look pretty fresh to me. They aso have kimchi and other Korean ban chan kind of food. They also have a whole aisle of Indian groceries including the spices and different types of powder. The ladies who work there are super friendly. Definitely check this place out if you need Asian groceries.

Bean bread! This one has sweet green tea bean filling- the very fine kind without chunks or skins of beans.

Delightful little Korean market! They have stuff Sagaya doesn't. Good selection of drinks, including corn silk tea, which is harder to find. The store is a little cramped but makes up for it with the selection. Oh and bean bread! They had and assortment of individually wrapped breads with assorted fillings and stuff like melon-pan.

A go-to spot for your Asian (and Indian) food needs. The store space is a bit cramped and claustrophobic, but the shelves are stocked with all kinds of good stuff- sauces, spices, noodles, rice, you name it. There is also an extensive selection of frozen goods, cooking utensils, and rice cookers to be found. Prices seem reasonable but I don't have much to compare them to.

This place filled with Korean goodies. I was so excited, I literally walked around the store three times. They even sell Korean sushi here! Lots of snacks and meats that you won't find at your typical Asian store. They sell a lot the side dishes you see at the restaurant too. Great place to pick up some lunch to go! I haven't been that excited about a grocery store since the huge Korean store in Sacramento, CA. I think Koreans just have the best stuff that makes my tummy happy :) PS: You have to spend more than $10 to use your card. So bring cash if you don't plan on buying a whole lot!

New Central Market is my go to spot for any and all Asian cuisine ingredient needs. They have a variety of different groceries here. This business is owned by a very nice couple that are happy to answer any questions about any of their products. They have a plentiful size of Asian candies in stock. This is one of the only businesses I've known in town to have boba for bubble tea in stock on a consistent basis. If you're looking to have an anime night, and are looking for snacks, I suggest shopping here. Their Korean sushi, they have on display, is the yummiest, & best deal in town. You can get 20 pieces for 7.99 or less. I recommend checking out their stock of gifts & food items alike. You may find something you didn't think you'd find in Anchorage.

This market used to be focused on Korean food but they have expanded soooooo much. I really love coming to this super well stocked store. The homemade kimchee from The New Central Market makes my heart feel happiness. There is a wide selection of Indian cuisine ingredients. When I shop here there so many good things to cook! I would recommend asking the staff for single serving products if you are traveling; there is a wide selection available for Alaskan tourists. If you live in the Anchorage Area, the kitchenware section of this store has you covered for the basics of cooking AND has amazing specialty appliances.

This is my new favorite Korean/Asian food market. The service is friendly and they have a great selection of products from kitchen ware to spices and all types of seaweed. They also have a section for house kimchi and other Korean specialties.

Hawaiian food section. Poi in two sizes, kalua pig, S & S saimin, two types of Portuguese sausage, and Zippy's stuff!

I love this place. If I can't find the right Asian ingredients at some of the other stores around town, I know I can get them here. I needed a small tub of quality kim chi to go with my oxtail curry stew dinner tomorrow, and there it was! At $4.99, a bargain. Being an authentic ukulele-strumming part-Hawaiian, the freezer section dedicated solely to island food caught my eye. Poi in both 1 and 3 pound sizes, S & S saimin, Rendondo's Portuguese sausage, Manapua, Kalua pig, and Zippy's foodstuff were welcoming sights. Truly a Pacific rim food hunter's go-to place.

Portable 1 cup rice cooker. Quite adorable.

Where else can you listen to WWII era Korean pop music along with today's korean pop hits while you shop for banana milk and kim chi? That's right, NOWHERE. They've managed to cram a lot of items into the space they have, and it's quite immaculate and a nice place all around. The kim chi here is a lot better than Oriental Market(which we only buy if there's no time to make it at home because it's so time-consuming and people don't seem to realize that and are saddened when we tell them we can't sell them any because we don't even get to eat our own kimchi) though I normally shop there and not here. I'm not sure if this place is as well-known as Oriental Market, but it's just as good if not better. NOTE: They also sell home-made traditional red bean rice cakes produced in the back kitchen - the kind that resembles a casserole and has a crumbled red bean coating on top. Pretty neat.

Lots of stuff. Be sure to wear a mask. A little pricey but you can find just about anything there. Even Zippys chili from Hawaii.

Review of New Sagaya City Market - Anchorage, Alaska…read more Five weeks ago, I moved from San Francisco to Anchorage, settling near the downtown area. One of my first missions was to find a coffee spot that felt like home--a place with not just great coffee, but genuine people behind the counter. After trying a handful of cafes, a neighbor suggested New Sagaya City Market, just two blocks from my house. What a win. The market itself offers high-end, quality products. Yes, prices are a bit higher than what you'd find at Walmart or Target, but coming from San Francisco, I was prepared for that. What truly sets this place apart, though, isn't just the products--it's the people. From the very beginning, the baristas here have shown me the most consistent and heartfelt customer service I've experienced since moving to Anchorage. They don't just serve coffee; they connect with you, listen to your stories, and make you feel like part of the community. Today was a perfect example. I slipped in the parking lot (rookie mistake--no spikes on my shoes for the icy ground). After two kind gentlemen helped me up, I walked inside with my spilled coffee. Annie, a new barista I hadn't met before, immediately offered me a fresh cup with such kindness and care. That small gesture meant so much--it wasn't just about the coffee, it was about feeling seen and supported. I also want to shout out Monica and Shea, who I met when I first arrived five weeks ago. They've been consistently amazing--funny, charming, and genuinely interested in conversations about life, community, and even my adventures back in San Francisco. Every time I come in, I leave feeling lighter, happier, and more connected. Thank you, Annie, Monica, and Shea, for making New Sagaya City Market my go-to coffee spot. You've given me more than great coffee--you've given me a sense of belonging in a new city. --- Would you like me to make this version short and punchy for Google/Yelp reviews, or keep it longer and more storytelling-focused for something like a blog or social post?

While the store is pricey, it is worth a visit for the items you can't get anywhere else and excellent customer service. I recommend trying the pre-seasoned ahi tuna, my personal favorite for at home meals.
