A real oasis . I needed to find a mortar and pestle. Called all over town till I found Red Apple. If you are looking for specialty kitchen gadgets try them first. Most employees seemed happy with their jobs and went out if their way to help me. It's been years since Ive seen that in this town. read more

Very nice place friendly staff at 7 am this morning stunning price ranges wide options on sea food farm life snacks

My favorite market in Anchorage - It has all the cool Asian sauces and noodles, but at half the price of New Sagaya!

This part of town is the part of town everyone that is retired or has only lived in Anchorage for 3 months warns you about. There's even a tired cliché they say "DON'T MOVE TO ANYWHERE WITH 'VIEW' IN THE NAME" Mountain View is a little rough around the edges, but there is nothing to worry about. I thought this grocery store was fine. I love that there are still some independent grocers in Anchorage. If I lived in Mountain View, I would definitely go here because of the convenience. I don't though, which means coming here is a special trip and...I don't think it's really worth it for that. Despite serving some underserved areas of Anchorage, the prices are still quite high. The exception might be Latin food items. This is a great place to find that stuff, and the prices are reasonable. (but again, there's a Latin grocer closer to where I live that I for that stuff) read more

Cool little store with a surprising variety of food, small town feel, and prices are not too high.

Red Apple is what I would consider a hidden gem in the neighborhood of Mountain View. They have a wide variety and selection of hot sauces you may not find anywhere else in town. If you're not able to find what you're looking for at Sagaya, Red Apple might have it. Their prices are slightly cheaper with many of their items and produce. Not every item has a lower price. Some of their cleaning supplies seem slightly more expensive. If you're on the road and looking to stop by for a snack, like a bag of chips, a jar of pickles, hot sauce, and canned mystery meat, or whatever it is you eat for a snack, this is definitely the place. I can't say much about the meat or fish, but their produce has a few hard to find items that you might not find anywhere else in town. read more

Hard to find ethnic foods and overall price is good! When I need something other grocery stores don't have...Red Apple usually has it!

Staff see customers as transactions more than as people. Not at all friendly. No compassion.

Stopped to grab dog food this morning and the cashier (Blonde and extremely Rude) informs me she doesn't have a hand scanner for the dog food...asked me to put it on the belt so I struggled and flopped it on the belt (I'm a 54 yr old disables female, a steering wheel tried to rip my arm off in a MVA I've had multiple reconstruction surgery's I'm covered in HUGE scars on my arm) the cashier starts belittling Me telling me I threw the dog food at her?? Uh excuse me I'm disabled I could barely pick it up, I even showed her my arm...and she lost her damn mind belittling me and berating me. I finally said never mind I'll go get my stuff else where. I've never been treated like that in my life...Her behavior was abusive, demeaning and totally embarrassing ...not sure If she was high on the meth while at work. But I certainly will never shop here ever again after this experience...Basically enter at your own risk and I recommend you bring your CCL for your own safety ... read more

I've lived in Anchorage for over a year and was clueless about Big Apple Market until an article by Julia O'Malley in in the paper about grocery stores brought it to my attention. Big Apple Market is located in a neighborhood that normally I wouldn't dare venture into. It is seriously sketchy. But it is OH so worth the trip. They have the cheapest prices on ethnic groceries in Anchorage. I'm originally from the East Coast where cuisine-specific ethnic grocers are abundant and inexpensive. What's extra-cool about Big Apple is they've got ALL kinds of cuisines represented. I was so excited to discover Mexican and Puerto Rican foods along side of a host of Asian items. I was super happy to find some Goya items at totally decent prices. For 12 bucks I nabbed a family pack of red plastic chopsticks, a can of lychees, a sleeve of Goya Maria cookies, a jar of pickled ginger, a box of majarete pudding, Goya Sazon with achiote, and Goya Adobo. 5 stars for being awesome, Red Apple. read more

Worst customer service selling expired products and blaming customers for negligence.

Says open until 10, but they mean open until 9:55. Which isn't an issue for me, because they are free to make their own hours, but don't claim to be open until 10. read more

Number one market in town. Astounding selection of food from all over the west pacific countries. Really fair prices. Not a slick box store with pre-prepared foods. A little rough around the edges, but fantastic selection read more

Great employees at this supermarket. I can see which little piggy went to market and why we enjoy it.

Bought some pork here, brought it home. Opened it up, it was rancid. They wouldn't take it back the next day. No refund, no store credit. I guess pandemic means "take what garbage we put out" in this store. Ask for barb. read more

Red apple market has alot nice variety of produce and foreign items. The main reason I come here is when I'm looking for a specific ingredient since regular grocery stores in Alaska do not carry certain items. I can usually find any Latin ingredient I'm looking for at a reasonable price. If you're looking to grocery shop in general I wouldn't exactly think it's the cheapest in town. I've seen better prices. Although I'm glad I can find what I need, the store layout drives me nuts. It's so hard to begin shopping since there's no main way into the aisles. You either have to go through the checkout lanes or through the crowds by all the little displays. In my opinion it is not very efficient and that goes for the parking lot too. read more

I'm so grateful for this store. It's the closest store to my house where I can find most of my Asian grocery needs. They carry a wide variety of items from fresh to canned goods. There are so much stuff that you can feel overwhelming at first. I haven't encountered this problem here but I would pay attention to the expiration dates due to the huge supplies that they offer. The price is pretty reasonable compared to another Asian store in downtown Anchorage. The cashiers are not that friendly but it's not a big deal for me. As long as I can get my hands on those familiar items that I grew up with, I'm one happy camper. read more

Red Apple Market - Jackfruit - Grocery Near Me - Anchorage, Alaska

I really love the selection in here. So exotic. I come in to get Mogu Mogu and Hello Bee Bee crackers. I usually pick up something new. I adore the Wai Wai spicy ramen. The only gripe I have is the fact that I usually can't find what I was looking for the next time I come in as its been moved. Goya is not the main thing here. Although it's nice to find. I love the whole bamboo shoots in water. Great for my stir frys. The frozen section won't resemble your regular grocery section. All kinds of fish and lumpia. It's amazing. Love it here. read more

This place is rude. They have no public bathroom. My daughter had to us the restroom she is 5. We ask the manager and he said that he had to walk her back there with out us parents. I'm not going to let a stranger take my 5 year old to the back to go the bathroom. Then they saw I had a knife on my belt and kicked me out for having a knife in me. I have been shopping here for years and they never kicked me out for having a knife on my belt. I will not be shopping here anymore. read more

I got robed there . Don't shop here if u value your belongings.my bag was taken right in front of security .

I was just in there I picked up sausage and walked to get drinks the whole time a lady following me around. Then I put the sausage down to go get a basket when she then walkup to me and accuses me of stealing the sausage. I hate this place it's the closest place to my house and I dont have a car ots the only reason I go there. I would not be sad of they closed. That's how bad there service is. This is my 3rd bad review still waiting to be able to out a good one up. read more

It's on the ghetto edge of town, and a little hard to get in and out of the lot, so I don't venture this way unless I am in the area or I need 16 bean soup mix. It's the only place to get it; every other store I've been to has 15 bean soup mix (I want that extra bean, man). The meat section is in the back and a lot of it is under lock and key, so you need to find a customer service person to unlock it for you. Nice personnel, who are friendly and courteous, in spite of some customers' attitudes. This store is unique in that it is a cheaper version of New Sagayas and caters to many ethnicities without the pomp and priss of yuppie town. read more

I live walking distance from this Red Apple Grocery Store. I also living walking distance from 'the Carrs at Northway Mall'. I've always shopped at the Carrs, but on occasion I'll venture into the Red Apple. Carrs is great for organic options, fruits and vegetables, fresh meat, and basic groceries. On the other hand, as the other reviewers have mentioned, if you're looking for specific ethnic ingredients that are hard to find in Anchorage, Red Apple is the place you want to stop by and check out. If we're being brutally honest, the store isn't located in the best part of town. It's in the same strip mall area as a Bingo place, Salvation Army, and Pawn Shop. If that doesn't adequately portray the part of town it's in, I don't know what does. The store is a little unorganized. There are random stacks of products and the aisles can be a bit hard to figure out (as they don't really seem to have a rhyme or reason behind how everything is organized and where everything is at). The first few times I went in I had to explore a bit to figure out where everything was at. It's a fairly large grocery store, but the employees aren't exactly ready to help you find anything. You'll have to search someone out to ask for directions- and even then, you'll probably get a haphazard point to where you need to go. On the other hand, if you enjoy being left alone and independently finding your way around- this grocery store would be great for you. The prices are cheap- significantly cheaper than other grocery stores in Anchorage. Many of the items are often on sale for half the cost of what I'd pay for them at Carrs. They don't have a huge selection of traditional food items (really just your basics when it comes to things like canned veggies, cereal, soup mixes, etc). But they have a great array of foods needed for different ethic dishes. They also have very affordable frozen meats, dairy products (like butter), and their sale items are worth checking out at least once a week- because you can get some pretty good deals on comfort food items. I'd still rather shop at Carrs, because I prefer a lot of organic fresh food options- but Red Apple is my second choice for groceries. I stop in occasionally to grab ingredients that the Carrs doesn't carry and just to see what good deals they have (I once got four boxes of butter for $4.00- that would have cost me double that at Carrs). Overall, it's a great place to check out once or twice a month. Their customer service isn't the best, they're a bit unorganized, and they're not in the best part of town. But they have great prices, a unique selection of food items, and you can get some great deals if you keep your eye out. read more

Look, this is just a start to a movement. This store was the hookup before Clark was upgraded. What I wanna know is what happened to the Red Apple chicken nuggets? It was around in the early 2000's and just disappeared when I was like 8. #WHERETHEMNUGGETS? read more

This store is great for your ethnic food needs. I am able to find most Asian items that I need. A lot of people seem to shop here so it can feel crowded at times. It's pretty well organized so it's easy to find things. Prices are decent as well. Produce and meat seem to be fresh. The parking lot can feel hectic at times but I've always been able to find parking. read more

Is there such a thing as a "Divey" grocery store? Haha well if they were to exist this would be it. Like in the previous review this place has lots of specialty items, especially Asian items as well as items for Latin/Hispanic foods. Prices are comparable to any other grocery store. Avoid the store on the 1st of the month though. It's super busy! Although they do open up an express checkout lane and have more people on staff during this time. They offer Western Union services as well. And they're usually open on holidays which is always a bonus considering its convenient location for me. read more

Orale... The Apple has a great latino foods section. You can find some different chili peppers in the produce section. the meat section was a little strange the last tim(Unless they changed it). They said because of shoplifting... read more

I love that they expanded their store. Whenever I'm in Anchorage and need ingredients for my Filipino and Hawaiian dishes this is my go to store. On my earlier reviews, I told you about New Sugay Markets, and how I liked them so much for the odd things they carry. Red Apple is also a really nifty little store that carries an abundance of "outside the box" items, and at a very good and decent price. They also have the Normal Grocery items, alot of which you can get at a really good price as compared to Carr's and Fred Meyer's. I am not much on their meat department, but they do carry items like Beef Links, that I can not find elsewhere. People do not like to go here, because it is located on a very, how can I say..."Busy Location", in a very "Busy Neighborhood". I don't mind it at all...reminds me of Home....scares the crap out of Jenn though!!! :) read more

Employees are NOT friendly. Absolutely not helpful and rude, I have never been to a check out line where the cashier helping me is laughing out loud and speaking a language I don't understand. My family do not like Red Apple Market because of the employees have no respect for other races. The oriental ladies there were very rude, I witness them talking and laughing about a heavy set Samoan woman. They were looking at her and laughing. I am for word of mouth Red Apple Market employees are not friendly and most of all RACIST. read more

Best kept secret in Anchorage. Local Mountain View neighborhood market, caters to their diverse clientele (including me) and has for decades. God bless them, they could really take advantage of their position, but instead they take care of their neighborhood. Broad selection of locally relevant ethnic foods, Pacific Islands, Mexican, Asian, Caribbean. I love their meats - they cut and grind their own, fresh because it moves fast. A single person can actually buy a single package of meat without having to get the "Super Family Value Pack" and pay a price premium. I appreciate that. Just a great neighborhood market and a real asset in Mountain View and Russian Jack. read more

This little gem! I adore this little gem of a market located in the hood. I go here to buy odd foreign foods when I want to try something new. For example, I've tried grasshopper and durian fruit thanks to Red Apple, among many varies uncommon snacks that you won't find in the majority of super markets. It has a large candy selection that is fun to choose from. That is basically why I love it! It's not in an ideal location, but so many great shops and restaurants aren't, I always figure this just makes the goods more affordable, which is such a perk in my opinion. read more

Extremely cheap and have just about everything you would need dairy products meats and seafood as well as a big bakery.

Shopping here has a wonderful welcoming atmosphere with helpful yet not over baring associates. Store has some of my favorite snacks from around the world for decent prices. The store's location could be better but it's worth the trip. I tried to apply for a job here, but the manager thought that I was raciest because I brought up if multi-cultured people would be able to understand me when I spoke to them. I am Autistic and have a social disability, but I had previous experience working at a 24hr grocery store for over a year. Plus I have a step mother who is from Thailand. Don't think I will ever apply here again. Even Target and Fred Meyer's isn't this judgemental. read more

Red Apple is one of our favorite grocery stores in Alaska! We can spend hours in the store looking at the merchandise, and usually end up with far more than we had on our shopping list. The variety of meats they carry has to be seen to be believed! I've never been disappointed when looking for a special piece of meat for a recipe. The clerks are cheerful and oh, so helpful... I wish I didn't live 25 miles from Red Apple - I'd shop there every day for my fresh vegetables. read more
