Anyone familiar with Fred Meyer knows they have a little bit of everything. Groceries, hardware, clothing, home goods, you name it, they probably have some options in stock for it. This location has a mini-Starbucks, pharmacy, liquor store, and jewelry department (?). I go there mostly for the groceries, which seem to be average in price with a decent if not amazing selection. If you don't feel like facing the crowds, you can select your groceries online (free with a small minimum order total) and schedule a pick up in the parking lot. One oddity I always encounter here - my phone's data always acts screwy in the store, even though I don't connect to the guest wireless service. Who knows why.

You can find most of it... Clothing, car stuff or groceries. Pretty darn close to one stop shopping. If you want guns or ammunition, you'll have to go somewhere else as they no longer carry them. The quality of the Store brand products they carry is pretty good with a lot of quality name brand selections as well. They lose most of their points in the produce section. I see a lot of empty bins on Sunday afternoon when I go to the market. The stuff that is on the shelves, looks pretty tired a lot of the time. I guess that's the price of living in Alaska.

Fred Meyer is a great store. It's a affiliated with Kroger in the lower 48 or maybe just Michigan. I get to use my Kroger card for coupons and rewards. I really like that. Being in Alaska for a couple months with not too much to do, I shop daily for dinner supplies. They have in store specials and items on sale due to the date of the food. There are many Fred Meyer stores through Anchorage. This one is the closer to my stay. If you go to other stores they sometimes have different sale items they are trying to unload. One thing that caught my eye is they have a supervised play room for small children. How cool.

Fred Meyer. We don't have one in Sacramento. This reminded me of a Walmart Superstore. It has everything. My friends got their fishing license and some bullets. On the grocery side, I found a lot of vegan products and even their store brand bread was labeled "Suitable for Vegans". Alcohol is in a separate little area for purchase. I was going to buy my own alcohol but the cashier had to see the IDs of my friends as well so I had to wait for them to pick out whatever they wanted and make it to the cashier and show their ID. Understandable. There's also a Starbucks here, if that's your thing.

Super busy Fred Meyer location, from the packed parking lot to the checkout lines. Still, the staff are helpful and professional. I always need help finding ingredients, supplies and information. Today I noticed a sign for free fresh fruit for the munchkins while shopping!

Go to any other Freds in town. The isles are full of old tags and old sale tags that they refuse to honor.

That's the price if you don't have the loyalty card and, thus, don't get the discount. The sticker then went on to show the "price with card," i.e., the discounted price, i.e. the 20% off price. And that unit price showed as $20.69/lb. That's a discount, yes, but it's not a 20% discount. To simplify, let's say the un-discounted unit price was $25/lb (a penny more than the actual un-discounted price). What's 20% of $25? Five dollars. So the discounted price with loyalty card should have been $20/lb. Another sign at the kiosk advertised 20% off Murray's Aged Manchego. Same problem: Fred's system didn't calculate the 20% correctly. The un-discounted unit price was $26.99/lb., but the same sticker showed the price with card to be $23.59/lb. Twenty percent off $26.99 is $21.59, not $23.59. So, I was being charged $2 more per pound than the advertised price on the sign right there at the kiosk. The nice young woman at the cheese kiosk seemed to understand what I explained to her in person, but she said she couldn't change the pricing; all the cheese sales staff does is weigh the portions and their system spits out a label. So I spoke in person to the man at the customer service counter, who also told me he couldn't change the pricing system and he didn't think anyone else in the store could, either. He noted that the PLU number on the sign didn't match the PLU on the sticker affixed to the hunk of cheese. I phoned and spoke with a grocery manager who did not listen, tried to say I misunderstood, then hung up on me. Then I phoned the 800 number and, once I got past the automated answering system and spoke to a person, she listened, seemed to understand, and said she'd pursue it. Bottom line for you, other Freddie's patrons, is: Check the math on the advertised discount. Make sure that the discount shown on the label agrees with the advertised discount.

Keep your empty cleaned out bottles and jars because ladies and gentlemen we can now buy bulk item with out all the plastic from the big stores. They also have empty jars for $.50 if you need them. They have everything from raw nuts, fruit, vegetables, shampoo and toothpaste tablets. We walked around and looked and then decided on a few items We got small jars of a shea butter lotion, amazing! Also picked up some lip balms I believe we got three different ones. Also Amazing! I picked up some wheat berries so I can mill some flour for bread. Speaking of bread, they also sell bread made locally. They sell cookies and coffee made with beans and syrups they sell. We left with a bunch of goodies to try and takes about our next trip and what we will get. I'm changing our eating habits this year. We are making everything at home. No fast food all home cooked. Well except today when we had to eat, but we choose well with our food. lol we are eating clean now so if your looking to change your eating habits, or want to get away from all the plastic and buy local, stop in and have a look. Review of New Sagaya City Market - Anchorage, Alaska…read more Five weeks ago, I moved from San Francisco to Anchorage, settling near the downtown area. One of my first missions was to find a coffee spot that felt like home--a place with not just great coffee, but genuine people behind the counter. After trying a handful of cafes, a neighbor suggested New Sagaya City Market, just two blocks from my house. What a win. The market itself offers high-end, quality products. Yes, prices are a bit higher than what you'd find at Walmart or Target, but coming from San Francisco, I was prepared for that. What truly sets this place apart, though, isn't just the products--it's the people. From the very beginning, the baristas here have shown me the most consistent and heartfelt customer service I've experienced since moving to Anchorage. They don't just serve coffee; they connect with you, listen to your stories, and make you feel like part of the community. Today was a perfect example. I slipped in the parking lot (rookie mistake--no spikes on my shoes for the icy ground). After two kind gentlemen helped me up, I walked inside with my spilled coffee. Annie, a new barista I hadn't met before, immediately offered me a fresh cup with such kindness and care. That small gesture meant so much--it wasn't just about the coffee, it was about feeling seen and supported. I also want to shout out Monica and Shea, who I met when I first arrived five weeks ago. They've been consistently amazing--funny, charming, and genuinely interested in conversations about life, community, and even my adventures back in San Francisco. Every time I come in, I leave feeling lighter, happier, and more connected. Thank you, Annie, Monica, and Shea, for making New Sagaya City Market my go-to coffee spot. You've given me more than great coffee--you've given me a sense of belonging in a new city. --- Would you like me to make this version short and punchy for Google/Yelp reviews, or keep it longer and more storytelling-focused for something like a blog or social post?
