This is a cool store for the aspiring kitchen warrior. It really has everything one could ever need for cooking, and so much more. Le Creuset, blenders, juicers, toasters, espresso machines. It's everything I could ever want as an aspiring meal artiste. It is actually hard to catalogue everything. There are greeting cards, puzzles, games, candles. There are random posters, and signs hung up along the staircase up to the second floor where many more items, usually on sale, are located. Two particular enjoyments: 1. The chocolate bar selection. All sorts and types of flavors. Mint, caramel, and my favorite, potato chip. 2. The popcorn kernel selection. Every type of kernel for popping along with all sorts of ingredients to sprinkle upon the exploded kernels. The employees genuinely seem to enjoy their job. Metro cooks is a cool store to spend an hour in. They have sooo many things you can buy. One side of the store is everything you could possibly want for a kitchen. The other side is fun gift tho gs and other fun stuff you must need for your kitchen. Over the years I have bought a plastic deviled egg holder, a deviled egg squirter thing, a pan rack you have from your wall, extra hooks for that rack, cast irons, various vegetable containers that look like your veggies, a cheese plate and knife, a popcorn bucket that separates all the kernels for you, lots of gift items like unique mugs, cat stuff, stickers, you name it you will find something for a gift if you look here. They are actually competitive in pricing when I google something in store Amazon has it for the same price or maybe the store is 1 or 2 bucks more. But hey no shipping charges and it feels good to shop local. Upstairs is the clearance items so dont forget to browse up there. read more

I come when I need specialty items. Like seafood steamers, etc. I exploded a candy thermometer in my Le Creuset pot I was using for deep frying peanut oil by just not paying attention letting the oil get over 450 degrees. Oops set the house fire alarms off, yeah pretty stupid not to mention a little dangerous on a gas stove. So, I wanted a candy thermometer with an audible alarm when it hits temp and they had a digital one I now use when doing any high temp stovetop cooking. I'm getting into molecular cooking techniques so came for N2O cartridges for emulsifying/frothing. If I'm in a hurry I just go up and ask if they have what I need and they lead me too it. The cartridges are kept behind the checkout counter! I didn't have to go far LOL! It's fun to wander the store and peruse when I have the time. We still haven't had our New House Warming Party, so much to unpack and where to put all the stuff, but will use this store for making a good impression! read more

A cooking store I use to know... that's what Metro Cooks has turned into for me. I use to shop there quite often, I find myself less in there these days due to having mostly what I need. I did however go in last week in search of a few items for an upcoming party at our home. There were 2 or 3 women working, I was in there for about 40 minutes and nobody bothered to see if I needed any assistance. They chit chatted with one another the whole time, and it use to be that someone wanted to assist you, if you needed it. I wander the same route most times, into the left through all the gift type stuff and then over to the right, where all the kitchenware is located. There are some cutesy gift type items, however some of it is not hitting very close to home anymore, lacking class. I guess they have to cater to everyone, however I'm finding less and less. I wish I could give this store more stars because as far as their products I love what they carry. Their customer service on the other hand is god awful. Almost every single time I've asked one of the sales associates a question or if they have a product or where it is, it seems like I'm really putting them out. Like doing anything other than standing at the cash register is outside of their job description or that I'm an idiot for needing help. They need to get their act together. Extremely rude. They gave me the hardest time trying to exchange a tea pot the other day. Acted like what I said was wrong wasn't actually wrong, like boiling water in a friggin pot is that hard and I was lying about the problem? No. You take the damn kettle and exchange it with a smile. The end. Not make the CUSTOMER bend over backwards trying to explain what is wrong with it before you reluctantly switch it out. Need to get their act together over there. read more

Don't support this business. They do not stand behind their return policy. Purchased a high end pan here and it was warped and would not sit flat on my glass top. Metro was rude and refused to help us. Anchorage does not need any more crooked businesses. read more

This used to be my go to place for Kitchenware and gifts. But I will no longer shop there! The last 2 times I was in the store there was so much offensive, crude, and adult rated kitchen towels and other merchandise that were totally inappropriate for this type of store. This is the perfect little spot, in the same strip mall as Cafe Amsterdam and Great Harvest Bread Company. The Metro Cooks section is pretty extensive with a great selection of tools, cookbooks, cutting boards, chef's knives, all kinds of gadgets (and there's a pretty big range of prices). You can wander into a different section of Metro which has a good selection of home decor, as well as furniture. I literally just glanced at the furniture, but it looked tasteful and modern by style. This would be an excellent place to pick up that last-minute gift for a birthday, housewarming party, or Christmas. read more

The middle aged balding effeminate Asian Man was absolutely unpleasant. He was condescending. He spoke as if he couldn't be bothered to help me as a client. I had already picked out over 100 dollars in merchandise and he treated me like I was a vagrant loitering in his store. The store is absolutely lovely. The wide selection is amazing, but the way this man behaved makes me uncomfortable with going back. I feel dirty from the interaction. read more

So there is no William and Sonoma in Alaska. This is as close as it gets plus a few extra items you would not find at WS. So it's kind of better. The owner used to be a chef, so he knows cookware, knives etc etc very well. He is extremely friendly!!! I can get lots in here, for hours. If you imagine it, they make it, they carry it. Adorable shop! If I were a richer woman I would probably spend so much money here. A delightful surprise is their selection of greeting cards. Some are very cheeky, and I love that. They also carry tons of kitchen gadgets, bar wear, and fun decor. They have a lefse griddle that I will one day splurge on and buy. read more

This is our favorite store in Anchorage for cookware and related products. Helpful and knowledgable staff, good selection, and the prices are in line with the products and service. Yes, you can find lower prices on some of their products, but part of the value of Metro Cooks is that you can actually see and inspect the product and talk with someone who knows something about them. I live in Whitehorse and bought a LeCrete casserole dish from this store. I brought it home all the way to Whitehorse and when using it for the first time one of the handles broke off. Of course I was extremely upset as it ruined dinner and all, however one call to the store and the clerk was extremely helpful and promised to ship out a new one the next day! Although I have not received it yet, I am confident it will arrive...also great store and yes prices are high on quality goods, but you get what you pay for! read more

@ METRO COOKS ON BENSON -- I bought a breadmaker .. a good one 'Zojirushi'.. but on my first loaf the machine made a loud sound. The warranty dept. asked me to put my phone by the machine while it made the sound.. he diagnosed it that way! I needed a new belt. I called the store, a woman manager/owner said they would just pay for the belt.. $12.50.. I'm still amazed that I was stuck with a $49.00 labor charge ......and... they never paid the $12.50. I went in with the repair bill - a copy was made with a note and my name/address but I never heard back from them. I'm shocked and very disappointed. A $249.00 breadmaker !!! read more

Horrible customer service. I waited at the front counter for a sales person for 10 minutes. When she finally plodded up to the front counter she was totally rude and unkept. She has food stains all down her shirt and her gut was hanging out. It was like a cartoon. She couldn't manage to communicate very well. I wasn't sure what she was saying to me. I was there to exchange a soda stream carbon canister. According to the Soda Stream company, who I called as soon as I left the store, Metro Cooks is an authorized dealer and they are supposed to exchange the carbon canisters. However, this particular store clerk refused to do so because she was totally ignorant of the products sold in her store. I asked to talk to another clerk or the manager but she said she was the only one there. Le sigh! I wanted to buy our soda stream online but my partner insisted that we buy local. For the prices this store charges you'd think they would invest a little more in their employees and making sure they are educated on the products they sell and show up wearing clean clothes and what not. Gross. Also we called first and whomever was at the shop at that time told us yes they exchanged to soda stream canisters for 20$. When we got there Princess Pleeb was running the place so we wasted a trip. read more
