This place is straight up trash. Safeway should just shut down this store. Every time I place an order to go and go to pick it up, I always get an e-mail saying 'sorry, your order is delayed'. It is never picked on time. I placed an order today to be picked up at 2 p.m., it is now 3:00 p.m. and nothing has been done. When try calling to get an update, no one answers the phone. I understand stores can get busy, but this happens every time I do curbside pick up. When I go to the Palmer Carrs, they are spot on. They have my stuff ready to go and have a great attitude. Not the Carrs in Eagle River. Again, my order is always delayed, usually by an hour or 2. So it's faster for me to place an online order for the Palmer Carrs, drive 30 minutes to Palmer and 30 minutes back. Why have 'scheduled' pick up lines if management can't maintain the staff to support the scheduled times? Why not go into the store? Inside is terrible. The ambiance is like going into a store after the apocalypse... There is only one person working the register and is the self checkout line. I've been in there where the line for self checkout is 10+ people backed up. The person working the self checkout usually doesn't care. I've seen them chatting with their friends or on their phones. So you have people with carts full of groceries trying to figure out how to use the self checkout while the person who is supposed to help ignores them. Even with a line of 10+ people they still refuse to open another checkout stand. read more

I come to Carrs on occasion but this last trip is my last visit. Aside from the horrible customer service this store is GROSS. The floors are always dirty, the shelves poorly stocked, the variety lacking, the meat counter a joke, the meat cooler selection is minimal, but the worst part is by far the bathrooms. It smelled like an abandoned truck stop in the middle of Arizona. There is literally piss caked up on the outside of the urinal, something growing on it. The caulk is cracked all around the sinks, the floors are nasty and sticky with piss and who knows what. Somebody is signing the bathroom cleaning roster but I'd say this bathroom hasn't been cleaned in some time. If they aren't cleaning the bathrooms how do you think they're taking care of the rest of the store? "How you do anything is how you do everything". read more

Worker turned me and my husband away rudely as I was coming in 11 minutes before close I understand but I needed diapers for my newborn quickly and an older Caucasian worker proceeded to yell no??? I was planning to be in and out I don't understand?? The website showed the store closed soon and it was the closest option to my house. I ended up calling the Muldoon location which I am currently on my way to and they responded with how disappointed they are with the store and that I wasn't able to get the service I needed and that they'd be glad to supply me with diapers quickly! Carr's is a previously familiar owned group of Alaskan stores that provided premium products and service to Alaskans for years. A few years ago the Carr-Gottstien family sold all their stores to the Safeway chain. Safeway kept the names for many of the Alaska stores and have continued the Carr's tradition of excellence. Their main competitors are Costco, Fred Meyers and Three Bears stores. Carr's is known for their fresh produce and fruits as well as their meat and fish. Carr's is a truly excellent store with friendly employees and reasonable prices in a highly competitive market in Alaska. I have left many smaller and truly fine grocery and specialty stores out of this review as it is about Carr's and not all of the markets. Many are equal to Carr's and some provide the unique needs of Alaskans. read more

I'm relatively new to Eagle River and I've been pretty impressed with this store. Some highlights include the addition of Bobo bars recently that are 50 cents cheaper than REI and the salad bar. I love fresh food and I have to say, the salad bar has plenty of choices on it. I did notice that the quality of the items (especially the romaine and spring mix salad) declines as the day wear on, but the fruit is always delicious and the price isn't bad I do hate that I have to get two separate containers for the chicken wings and the salad. I hate being so wasteful when both items cost the same amount. The store is clean and some of the employees are nice/helpful. I've noticed that the Starbucks employees have been more friendly than the cashiers and produce employees. No one has been rude though. read more

This is one of my favorite Carr's stores. It's clean, well organized, and the people are very friendly. It seems like there's more space in this Carr's than some of the others, and it makes it easy to move around and find what I need. It's too bad this one is so far from my house; I would definitely go here more frequently. I can't really ding them for being far away, and I can't think of anything they can do better than they already are, so five stars for a grocery store! read more

Of all the Carrs in Anchorage, this one is my favorite. Even after losing all the roof tiles in the earthquake, the space is clean, organized, and bright. The employees are helpful and friendly. I understand they will be working on the parking lot this summer to fix the last remaining damage of the quake. If you like deli food for lunch or dinner, but especially lunch, say hi to Jeff (who is awesome and remembers my standard order for boom boom shrimp- sssooo goood). I went in to go use the restroom. I asked an employee and got the cold shoulder, completely ignored and a manager walked by me didn't help me either. I do a lap around the store and didn't find a sign. I work customer service, but never thought I'd would be treated this way be another service worker! I'm so disappointed. read more

Over the years since Carr's was Carr's. And now Carrs Safeway? The "customer service" is on average hit or miss. But my issue lately has been with the night staff. Not everyone mind you, but the majority. And I'm sorry that you obviously hate or just plain don't care about your paying job. But you can quit at anytime. Lose the resentment and attitude towards the customer, in your customer service job otherwise. And suck it up buttercup. I may not be the most congenial man in the world. But I also have had the basic please, and thank you manners. And other pleasantries you learn way before you are old enough to work in the first place. And I use kind words every day. You are a hateful jerk. I don't like you. You don't like me. But I don't use my race. You do. I am tired of Carr's. I am tired of useless personal crap. You are useless. I am tired of useless people like you. Screwing around with a health condition you think you know a damn about. I wish you had a rapid education on disabled conditions. But you refuse. So? This Carrs has a pretty decent selection and if they run out of something they tend to restock it pretty quickly. I'm the type of grocery shopper that uses a local produce and food delivery service for my fresh organic produce, mail order non-perishable items, and shop at certain grocery stores for certain things. The prices are higher than some Carrs in town. My only real issue is the fact they don't have self check out. C'mon get with the times! Friday's are slammed with typically just one or two cashiers. I've lived in Eagle River for 6 years. The quality of the hot food counter has been in steady decline the entire time. The food is consistently over cooked, staff is rude and don't know what goes on their sandwiches and the hours are aweful. Who closes any part of a food counter at 6:30?! As far as the staff goes they always seem to not care about their product they are selling. I understand not knowing all of the sandwiches by heart but you shouldn't have to read the ingredients list like it's the first time, EVERY time a sandwich is ordered. I keep coming back because I believe in second chances and it's convenient. No more. I'd rather drive to and from Muldoon for a quick meal - even though I live a literal two minutes from carrs. I'm done. This kind of thing is driving me to do the rest of my shopping at Fred Meyer too. read more

Carrs is the equivalent of a Walmart, only local... and better. Things that they have that Walmart doesnt is a fresh buffet of fruits and salads, checkout yourself stations, and Starbucks! They have club member deals everywhere for savings- which I strongly suggest someone look into if they come to Carrs at least once a week. If you do buy a bunch of groceries, fear not! They have boys that will help you bring your groceries out to your car. Very homey and community based grocery store. read more

They were on their cell phones and their pants for hanging down past their rear. They wouldn't knowledge me when I asked him for help. Very unprofessional. I know it's night shift but what about customer service? The gas station has all the lights out pretty scary to stop here and get gas. I'll spend another 90 seconds and go down to Fred Meyer's. Will not be back here. This store has really gone down hill. I will not even come back for five dollar Friday. So far all of the Carrs I have been to have the freshest produce in AK. I am also in love with the Carrs florist shop. You can get fresh flowers for a very reasonable price. They handle prom and I even got my wedding flowers for less then $100! The best part is the Carrs card which lets you save at the Carrs gas pump.
