I love the commissary because prices are usually better than off base. They usually always have what I need unless it's a speciality product. I know AK is more expensive, but goodness over $8 for a lb of deli meat is outrageous. Also, I purchased two packages of hot dogs once and realized when I got home that they had expired--someone should have been checking the shelves to ensure no expired items are on the shelves. I worked in a deli as a teenager and I was super stringent about expired products on shelves, especially certain products are just not okay to eat after the expiration. Lastly, there are a few cashiers that are just straight up rude or unprofessional. Yesterday I went into a check out lane that was open, the light was on so one can only assume that his lane is open. I was standing there digging through my purse for my ID, I hadn't put my groceries on the belt yet, and the male cashier told me to "get moving" or something like that because he "needs to go on break." I looked up and he had turned the light off. I told him I could go to another lane and he said "naw just hurry up." The whole time he didn't acknowledge I was there, he was shouting to other employees at other lanes, making strange, obnoxious, unintelligible sounds and comments. And picking at his nasty long nails while I'm waiting for him to press whatever buttons on his register while my card is inserted in the machine. Just extremely unprofessional. The produce section kind of sucks, I enjoy shopping at Fred Meyer better because their produce section is amazing, beautiful and crisp fresh produce and their hot food options can't be beat. On a more positive note, their sushi bar is great, and again the prices are great which is the reason for the 4 stars. I have been to dozens of commissaries considering I have been in the military world since the day I was born. All commissaries are relatively the same and prices generally are the same no matter which state or country you're in, although some prices may differ slightly. The commissary is like home to me and it's simply convenient. This store just needs to focus on their employees and weed out the rude, unprofessional ones. Customer service is kind of a big deal. read more
