We were in the area camping and celebrating my Brother's birthday. I contacted their shop on…read moreFacebook messenger and was able to have his cake ordered for the following week. The cake was made the way I asked and was very fairly priced. Everyone was so helpful both online ordering and at the store when we picked it up. We ended up grabbing some freshly made kiffles while there too. Cute shop to look around or sit at.

The place is in a small strip mall, next to a gas station and a pizza place and had a board outside advertising their lunch. Walking in I was drawn to the setting of the place as it is very welcoming, minimal display and a decent sitting area. The lady at the counter recommended everything on the menu, but when I told her I was looking for something very sweet, she guided me to "The Persian", which is a donut filled with creme and other goodies and to the "Salted Caramel Bar", which was the largest brownie I had seen. For extra measures I went ahead and bought a White Cupcake as well and started my adventure by finishing that one first. The White was very well made, light to the eating and wasn't too sweet either. The real treat however was the Salted Caramel Bar as just after one bite, I was a full convert to becoming their fan right there and then. Not only is it huge, but there is plenty of very sweet and amazing caramel inside which oozes out as you eat through it. After discovering my new love interest in the brownie, I stood up to go meet the owner of the bakery. She shared that she and her sister had started this place and it was still relatively new. I complimented them for their artistry and asked them to be on Yelp, as that is the only place I get my recommendations. I drove home after buying another bar and kept it in the trunk so I do not have easy access to it. This place is far from me, but I will find any excuse to drive to that area to pick some of those brownies and The Persian. Well done ladies, you have a fan in Connecticut!

Fortunately I was in a group and we were able to split a half dozen donuts so that we could try a few different flavors. My favorite was the canoli and the Nutella maple. The flavors rotate and I believe they have a few staple flavors that are offered all the time. I did not try out a drink but a few people in my group said their iced drinks were good.

Donerds Donuts is a locally owned small business that's well worth a stop when you're visiting Jim Thorpe. I learned that the owners met in Chile, where they were inspired to start a donut and coffee food truck. They sold their handcrafted donuts from a vintage VW bus on the streets of Santiago before eventually bringing their passion to Pennsylvania. Today, they have two locations, and I had the pleasure of visiting the Jim Thorpe shop. The storefront is charming, welcoming, and has a few seats where you can relax and enjoy your treats with a fresh cup of coffee. Best of all, everything is made fresh on-site. Their display case is filled with an impressive selection of classic and specialty donuts, along with colorful macarons, French toast cinnamon rolls, flaky croissants, and a full lineup of coffee drinks ranging from lattes to iced coffees. Honestly...wow! Deciding what to order wasn't easy. Since it was already midday, I kept it simple and went with a Boston Cream donut. It was incredibly fresh, light, and filled with rich, creamy custard, then topped with a smooth layer of chocolate. Absolutely delicious! A special shout-out to Sarah, who made the visit even better. She was warm, friendly, and incredibly helpful, taking the time to explain the different donuts and macarons. Everything she described sounded amazing, and she definitely had my mouth watering. I had to show some self-control or I would've walked out with half the display case! She was fantastic. If you're spending the day in Jim Thorpe, do yourself a favor and make a stop at Donerds Donuts. Grab a coffee, treat yourself to one (or a few) fresh donuts, say hello to Sarah, and support a wonderful local business. I know I'll be back the next time I'm in town.
