I stopped by the Avon Walmart to pick up some necessities like toothpaste and tissues. This is a pretty big Walmart, with a substantial sized parking lot. They don't have a full grocery section, but you can find flour, oil, seasonings and some other "dry" items. The shelves are all very well stocked. This Walmart is a bit behind on some of the latest releases. Prior to going to the store you may utilize the store locator on their website, to identify which location has your item in stock. Currently, in mid October they have all of the Halloween items out and Christmas too. If that doesn't tell you it's a big Walmart, well it's big. I typically find what I need and go to the register. It's unlikely that I'd find someone looking to be helpful. Overall, not a bad Walmart. read more

Since they've done the update, this is the worst Walmart in the history of Walmarts. They don't have any of the products that I use. The shelves are jumbled in a mess. There's no rhyme nor reason for the way they're set up. They don't have the gum that I need, the coffee that I need, any of the cereals that they used to have. The aisles are terrible. Walmart is, well, Walmart... The prices are affordable which deserves 5 stars. I gave it 3 because it's small, doesn't have a full grocery store, and self checkout lines are usually long when I'm there. This location is smaller that the ones I've been to but it's super clean. They have non refrigerated groceries; I usually get baby food, other pantry items, and toiletries here. I haven't had to interact with any employees so no review on that. read more

Went to this WalMart today and the best experience I have ever had in a Walmart! The store is beautifully set up for the holidays and clean and organized. I found every item I needed at great prices. The store employees I ask help from were very friendly and helpful. When I got in line with my elderly parents our WalMart cashier Vinay was not only efficient, he was incredibly kind to my parents and he just made the whole experience next level wonderful. Clean store in excellent location. Great prices and sales. I've noticed some employees work so much harder than others (on cell phones) or 2-3 talking and hanging out when customers need help. Managers should check this out - esp in evenings. Once I was locked (yes!) in garden center at 5:50 pm without anyone checking to see if there were customers. No one heard my knocks on the door and I had to call the store for someone to let me in. Most staff are very good with minimal support. Reward these people. read more

Was in the store last evening with my young daughter to buy a gift for her friend's party today. As we made our way to the back of the store where the toys are located, we passed a female and male employee who were stocking Christmas candy. The language being used by this young girl as she shouted to another employee at the back of the store was shocking. Does Walmart train its employees in how to act in a business environment? Clearly someone needs to train the young lady (young and heavy with glasses) who sits at the self check out service. Not only was she rude, she also always had mouthfuls of rude words. Instead of saying: "Excuse me, let me help you with that" she said "You need to move so I can get in there." Then, we asked for help with the video game we purchased which was locked in the box. I love this Walmart so much. The place is always clean, and the staff is friendly. I've been to many Walmarts in my lifetime, and this one is by far the most pleasant. Admittedly, this Walmart is very small compared to others, especially the Super Walmarts; however, I don't mind. When I need something from one of the bigger Walmarts, which is rare, I'll drive to another town. Listen you guys it's Walmart. If anyone expects perfection, then head over to Target or Whole Foods. The customer service may be better, but the prices are higher. The only reason I don't give this Wal-mart five stars is because it doesn't have a full grocery section with produce, deli and refrigerated goods. It's always clean, the shelves are usually stocked with any items you need, and the employees are much more pleasant than most department stores you visit nowadays. Take it from someone who used to service Wal-Marts throughout CT and MA, this one is as good as it gets. This has largely to due with the fact it's smaller than most Walmart and certainly never gets that busy except on weekends during the afternoon. I would recommend Equate products (Walmart's line) to anyone looking to save money. The quality is highly rated and is always the best priced. Honestly on the scale of Walmart's this is one of the best ones in terms of experience. While it is a much smaller store (with extremely limited perishable food selection) it is awesome when it comes to cleanliness and staff help. They have an expansive array of clothing options and often have exactly what I'm looking for even when I don't expect them to. They have a pretty big garden section in spring/summer, and they're super friendly. When I wanted to run out to get another plant (out front) the person at the self checkout volunteered to watch my cart for me. Some of the associates are a bit too nice though - and I had one encounter where the woman was giving me lots of personal details about her life and prying about mine, asking some pretty inappropriate questions about personal things. I noped right out of there but... super uncomfortable. Overall recommend if you can! I'd take this Walmart over Flatbush and Cromwell any day. read more

I don't care for Walmart in general but I have had good luck finding reasonably priced underwear. That department was a complete mess, packages dumped on the floor, almost everything was mixed up and on incorrect size - style displays. Of course it is due to rude shoppers but the department as a whole was a shambles and it didn't happen within the last hour. Employees were having shouted conversations between multiple isles, it was like being in the middle of a block party and a street brawl. The front cashiers are the most unfriendly bunch I have ever encountered, I always greet with a smile and hello and here you get a scowl (if you are lucky). Granted I may go there 4 times a year but it is always the same. I must mention though, several months ago I placed an online order and had to go into the "way back" to pick the item up and was treated to the most enjoyable 2 young men you could imagine. They were the poster children for somewhat socially awkward but they were the most polite, engaging young people I have encountered in a dogs age and I think they will go far, you rock guys! read more

I had placed a photo order online through snapfish that offered the order to be printed at a nearby Walmart. The Walmart in Avon printed it incorrectly. When trying to resolve the issue with the manager on the phone he was extremely rude and combative. I explained I placed an order on snapfish to print at their store. He claimed he'd never heard of that and he didn't think it could be done. Um... seriously? I'm here with it so it must be possible. Needless to say, Walmart and snapfish blamed each other. No one accepted responsibility and said the other one was responsible. I waited for a response from the "next" level according to customer service which never happened. Worst Walmart in CT by far. The aisles are always a disheveled chaotic mess. Especially the seasonal and clearance shelves. On one occasion an item from clearance rang up wrong. After requesting a manager to check our price we were informed by the manager it was ringing up correct price. After a brief "discussion" I walked back to the clearance aisle and retrieved the upc sticker from the shelf and brought it to the register. The manager was summoned again. She explained to me that the black photo albums were on sale but not the red ones. After another "discussion" I again walked to the clearance aisle and found the upc sticker for the red photo album. When I returned to the register the manager was there waiting for me. After scanning the sticker it was revealed that both red and black were on sale for the same price. No apologies, and no admittance of being wrong. I had to personally walk to the aisle twice just to do a store associates job correctly. All the while people in line are witnessing my frustration and embarrassment trying to communicate with a lady who refuses to be incorrect. As I'm finally being rung out at the correct price I asked if I should be receiving this item for free since it was rang up wrong not once but twice. I was informed it was not a commodity and she would be doing nothing to resolve her mistakes. Fast forward about 6 months and I stopped in with my family to grab some painting supplies and a windshield wiper for my wife's car. As we neared the auto section of the store we heard a loud high pitched machine start up and begin to work. As we got closer we saw that a construction company was redoing a section of concrete flooring. Once the machine started sanding or scraping the concrete floor the noise intensified to a level that was so loud I couldn't hear my wife and daughter tell me they were going back to the front of the store. After standing there for 2min trying to figure out which wiper I needed I couldn't take it the noise anymore myself. I turned to gather my family but they were already gone. After locating them in the outer lobby we left without purchasing anything. I can't understand any reason a job that requires the use of those machines would be done during store hours. It did not just make our visit unenjoyable it was actually a painful experience to be in that building at that time. This type of construction and equipment is unjustifiable during business hours. Poor management day in and day out at this location. My money will be going to other local businesses in the area (Target, Kohls, Dicks,etc). With so much competition in the area corporate management should look into what needs to be done to retain local residents business. read more

I went to the Walmart in Avon, CT 3 days ago. I got a few things and went to cashier #10 (furthest to the left). I waited for the 1 person ahead of me to finish and leave. There was no one behind me in line. I was reaching into my cart to start putting my items on the counter. All of a sudden the cashier at register #7 to my right (I found out later her name is Madge) came over and said that the man in her line had to get in my line ahead of me. I had no idea what was happening. I told her I was here and it was my turn at this register. She loudly said that the man (I had never seen him before) was going to be getting ahead of me in my lane. She was angry and insistent and I did not want to confront her, so I checked out at the self service register. When I got home I called and spoke with Manager Paige. She was horrified and said that is not Walmart's policy. I suggested additional training for Madge. She totally agreed and was very apologetic, which was nice. That has never happened to me before at Walmart. My experience at Walmart is usually very good. read more

I have had nothing but horrible experiences lately at the walmart in Avon, CT. The last time, (last week) every register had a long line. I had one item and was waiting in express when the woman at the customer service register said she would take the next person. We, (myself, husband and 4 year old son) went over as well and got in line there. She watched this and didn't say anything until she was done ringing the customer up, at which point she told us she couldn't ring us up because she was taking the next person from the line we were originally in. By this point 2 more people had gotten into that line, so now we were in an even longer line. I feel as if she could've said something long before that. My son, who is autistic, was getting upset and uncomfortable, as the store was very hot and we were all sweating. We spoke to a manager about this and all she said was, "I'm sorry." That wasn't helpful. The time before that, twice we got in line and as soon as we got up to the register the cashier informed us she was closing or going on break and then shut off her light and walked away. Again, management didn't care. I will never go to this store again. I have never been treated so rudely in my life and I am very disappointed. I went to this walmart often in the past, the issues have cropped up over the past few months. read more

Showed up at 9:30 pm to return a few items. Store is open until 10. I was told the service desk was closed and I had to come back at 7 am when the service desk was open. The manager, Carmen, refused to come and talk to me and sent a couple stock boys to do her bidding. What kind of customer service is this?
