I saw someone buy 4 packs of mega bbq sauce, very American coded. Costco is always a good bet for non perishables as someone who lives alone. I typically get toiletries, cat food and litter, and skincare. Their brand of cat litter is pretty great but kind of dusty and the cat food works with my boys. Always worth the money! I will say- my hometown Costco is two floors so I do feel this location is a bit cramped. Check out is an absolute nightmare. They recently changed their muffins from 2 packs of six to 1 pack of 8 which the muffins are about 1/2 the size of the old ones and are very dry the QUALITY is nowhere near what it use to be. Their muffin's were a staple of costco's and many of their customers would go there just to get muffins but that won't be happening now . Covid-19 era review: can't wait for this to be out of date! The garage door entry by recycling is now the main entry, while the usual front entry is now exit-only. Everyone gets their cart here, so if you roll one up like I did, they'll exchange it for a disinfected cart. Make sure you bring your standard or improvised mask; there's a diverse, stylish mix of surgical masks and bandanas, with or without a coffee filter tucked in. Costco has labeled aisles well and placed a few cones for traffic purposes, but ugh, there are still oblivious customers who get a little too comfy that sneak up behind you, less than 6 feet away. People, I know we all love Costco, but respect spacing, I don't care how cute the fabric pattern on your mask is. Some things have item limits still, but at least the coffee, beer, rotisserie, and package store sections, all the non-negotiable stuff, is there. The bread and produce selection was moderate but fresh. I happily found a box of 6 commercial toilet paper rolls, limit 1, something I haven't seen in over a month--score! Paper towels and dinner napkins are nearby if you'd like alternatives. Alas, no Clorox wipes or Lysol spray yet, but in non-quarantine times that is never a problem. The cashiers behind plexiglass panels tape your receipt to the cart now, and a few rows and end-caps have been removed for spacing. The staff, now masked, remain helpful and pleasant as ever. We wanted something new and we got it yesterday when we marched up to the counter at Costco and said "sign us up". By the time we walked out an hour and a half later, we noticed some immediate differences between the two. Most importantly, we agreed that every single person we interacted with at Costco was OUTSTANDING. They smiled, they were courteous, they were friendly, and they were pleasant. None were sullen or cold or looked like they were being held hostage by their employer. The two warehouse stores look a lot alike -with hundreds of metal racks for electronics, groceries, clothing, toys, household goods, plus an auto department, big refrigerated and frozen food sections, and even a liquor store! We found the selection pretty impressive, and enjoyed walking around and tossing things into our cart. One of the first things we bought was a nice looking street taco container with a ton of grilled spiced chicken, cheese, shredded cabbage slaw, 12 tortillas, and containers of salsa and cilantro lime crema. We had some for lunch yesterday (about 2/3 of it remains for later use) and it was excellent. It cost fifteen bucks but was worth every penny based on the size and taste. We picked up some snacks, groceries, frozen foods, cleaning supplies, a 2-pound container of strawberries, and a huge great looking Rotisserie Chicken for $4.99. The selection was very good, and as we said, the shopping experience was very pleasurable. Our drive to New Britain (actually just down the road from the West Farms Mall) was a snap and a lot easier than the congested traffic we ran into whenever we went to the B.J.'s in West Hartford. We definitely made the right decision to switch over. read more

McLuvin my Costco Membership. The gas prices alone are worth the cost of Membership. The liquor store is also a nice option with a good variety of wines, beer not so. Theres still plenty of other savings, but their items are bulkier than BJ's bulk. Costco has gotten too aggressive on checking ID cards upon entering. I recently had a bad experience with my daughter, I scanned my card at the entrance and my daughter was slightly behind me and she was attacked by the entrance Costco ID check station men. They ran after her (she is in a wheelchair!!) and jumped on her asking for her ID. I could not believe it! I reported this to three employees, none of whom cared. Totally unacceptable! I have been a Costco member for many years and it is sad that they have to attack members on the way in the door. It is also sad that they went after someone in a wheelchair. First of all, this rating is for the Costco Optical at this location, not for the rest of Costco, which I would easily give 4 stars. As I see no place to review the optical area individually I am doing it here for anyone that might be interested. I have been buying glasses at several different places, including Target, Lens Crafters and BJS over the past few decades so I know what to expect. Let's just say my experience here has been less than satisfactory but not because of the product or its quality, but because of the service. First of all, the opticians here are not the most helpful or friendly. When I came in with a prescription they balked at using it in one of their frames because it was just over a year old. Now I know that there are rules about needing a new prescription after 2 years in most places, but ONE YEAR? That's because they don't like it that you're not using their optician. OK, you expect that at a high priced optician's office, but not at Costco. I finally prevailed, though, because that was ridiculous. Then there was the demeanor of the opticians. They are mostly brusque, dismissive, and need a short course in customer service. And I don't even expect that much from them, to be honest. That and their ability to fit your frames to your face so they don't bend out of shape is less than satisfactory. When my glasses completely bend out of shape every 3 months, it's not me, it's them. I have other glasses from other stores and their opticians know what they're doing. And I know it's not the glasses either, because I finally got tired of taking them back to Costco every few months and begged my friends next door at Target to do it for me, which they did so gladly. Once they did it the same glasses never needed any readjustment. I have no problem with the frames or the lenses themselves. The product is fine, it's the staff that I don't love. And I've never even had an eye exam there either so I can't comment on that, but given my experience so far I don't think I'd go there for that in the future. Their prices may be great, but if I time things right at their competition I can come close or do even better. read more

This is a very comfortable Costco (coming from shipper from NYC area). There were no lines on a Saturday afternoon. Upon entering from the one entrance, you are able to grab a cart. As you show your membership ID, they have disinfectant wipes available so you can wipe down your cart which is a plus. Wandering around Costco, there weren't a lot of people, so it was very comfortable shopping experience. People are courteous of social distancing and keep to themselves. Typical Costco setting - nice, clean, easy to find items you are looking for. Decently long lines (at least 3 cars in front of you) to fuel gas on a Saturday afternoon which makes the gas station seem like a mini parking lot. But who can say no to cheap gas? The gas station opens until 8pm on Saturday! read more

I usually try to go to Costco for a gas fill for my car, because the price is the lowest in the general area. It's not the closest place for me to get gas by any means, but I'll go there particularly when I'm in the area for other reasons. Alot of times, particularly 4 - 6 pm, the lines for gas can be very long. I don't mind the wait, if I'm not in a rush. As far as other benefits of Costco I don't do much there because everything is packaged in bulk, and I just don't have the need for it. There are many odd things I've purchased there, food items, jewelry, books, car tires, they have all kinds of services and products one might need. One other thing I've got from Costco at a great value, is their prescription glasses. My glasses cost me under $200, significantly less then LensCrafters and they're still going strong two years later. The annual membership fee is $60, if you're sharing the membership with someone else and you have full advantage of the store it's very much worth it. read more

Hi, This act of kindness and customer service has impressed me and this employee needs to be recognized and celebrated.  For his 23 years of service,  his countless generosity hasn't been widely recognized as it has been witnessed by me. On Saturday,  August 27,2022. Costco Gas Station Supervisor Rod Roecker is not just a coworker,  friend, and mentor of mine.  He was working the morning/opening shift at the gas station.   It was a typical weekend with numerous members milling around the gas station and store in New Britain CT. #1196. I was supposed to relieve Rod to close the gas station for the day, I had just gotten to Costco and awaited my shift start in the breakroom.  Unbeknownst to me,  Rod was handling a situation with a member.  A elderly couple, after shopping,  stopped in for gas. Ater gassing up, they discovered that the car wouldn't start.  They spoke more Polish, than with a heavy accent.  Rod was trying to help with the car, as another employee who speaks Polish was conversing with the couple, and relaying questions and info., along with trying to console them.  To further attend to other members at the gas station,while Rod needed to concentrate on helping out,  Rod had made his supervisor decision to let me start early and handle the task of attending the gas station by calling me from the gas station down to the breakroom,  having me start my shift early.  The elderly couple, had a trunk full of frozen foods,  as well as other groceries.  With no luck in starting their car,along with the day being in the high 80's.  The concern was getting the groceries to their home,  while calling for assistance for their car. The decision was made by Rod to transfer all their groceries to his truck and having him driving the wife, with the groceries home in New Britain,  while I stayed and attended the gas station.  This act of kindness on Rod's part,  along with the neverending customer service that he shared with Beata, (who usually works in our liquor department,  and came up to translate to calm their fears ). With them working in tandem,  they were able to get their groceries and the wife home to make arrangements to get the car back on the road.  With this showing of Costco's spirit, and encompassing the Costco's mission statement.  I believe,  and would like both of these employees recognized for their thankless act. I don't know what it is about Costco that brings me so much joy. Is it the super-sized packages of cookies? The free samples at the end of each aisle? The never ending bakery selection? Whatever it is, it's always a treat to visit this Costco. It's a testament to how hard the employees work when there is still ample stock of chips and crackers the day before Super Bowl Sunday on the first of the month. These people work their butts off to keep all your favorites ready to buy on their pallets and they do so even more impressively with a smile on their face! They are always helpful whether I'm looking for something in particular or checking out at the register. Costco is the best, hands down. This location is one of the newer spots, and it's huge. It's easily navigated, exceptionally clean and has quite an array of product. Best prices around on electronics (and they stand behind their products, unlike other stores). This is my go-to spot in the greater Hartford area to buy gas as the prices are always the best. They also have a very large liquor store on site. Special sales throughout the year on things such as furniture, pianos, seafood, seasonal items, etc. Clothing sold here is higher quality than their chief competitor. And the optical department is top notch (I purchased two pair of glasses there). Need tires? Yep, Costco. They had the best price on the best brands. As you can see, I'm a Costco guy. Conveniently Located. Parking is no issue. Gas is usually best price around. Costco is not cheap per se but it is relatively the best price if you're comparing apples to apples for the brand of the items. Great for families or if you have friends to split some items as most come with 2+, so the per unit is great value. You'll most likely leave the place over budget but if you were to buy the same items elsewhere, it'll cost you more. Majority of items are quality that I can trust and for the price, it may be best around, even when you compare to Amazon. Offers great sample tastings. If that's not enough, the food court offers hot dogs+drink for $1.50 and other food choices perfect for lunches. Paying membership is the only downfall but that's standardized. Best part is you can always return anything you're not satisfied! With that mentality, you just end up buying items you're on the fence about. And that's how you end up buying more than you intend to! The trick is to also know what things to buy in Costco vs just at a regular store. I see there is a difference in price too when compared to the other whole sale clubs and the biggest difference I see is the tasting stations that Costco has. I'm a huge fan of warehouse stores and have been a Costco member for some time but didn't really frequent the store because they were all out of the area. So I was beyond ecstatic to learn one was opening in the area. They carry a lot of high quality products for reasonable prices. The fruits/veggies are always fresh, the meats and seafood are priced accordingly, and the baked goods are so yummy. Added bonuses are the liquor store attached which is open to those whose don't have a membership and are looking for a discount.
