My family's shopped at the Waterbury Costco for 10+ years, and their products were staples in my household growing up, so imagine my excitement when I found out last year that a Costco was opening closer to me in New Britain. I've literally been counting down the days until it opened! I finally got to stop in today, and it's excellent. All of the high-quality Kirkland Signature products I love and expensive brand-name products like Patagonia, all at really reasonable prices. For people who haven't shopped at Costco before, some of my family's favorites include: rugelach, croissants, blueberry muffins, pumpkin pie, pesto, chicken breasts, salmon, pecan-cashew nut crisp, toasted coconut cashews, and pretty much everything Kirkland Signature. New Britain shoppers have no idea how lucky they are, since this location also features a liquor store (which the Waterbury location doesn't have), a gas station (which consistently has the cheapest gas prices around), a tire center, and an optical center (which is where I get my glasses and contacts in Waterbury). The best part of this particular Costco location though? How cheery and friendly all the workers were. At the entrance, I was warmly greeted by multiple Costco employees and given a shopping cart by another worker, all of whom seemed absolutely thrilled to be there. That's a testament to how well Costco treats their employees. A few complaints lest I sound like a total Costco fangirl: The layout is exactly like the Brookfield Costco, and while I prefer the layout of the Waterbury Costco more (less maze-like and more spacious), I guess they made do with less space. The parking lot however is a mess. Whoever designed it did not anticipate the swarms of confused shoppers trying to navigate it. Hopefully the amount of traffic will die down as the store gets settled in. Overall, Costco has done an excellent job with this location, and I'm so excited to live so close to a Costco again. read more

I switched from Sam's Club to Costco and I think I made a huge mistake. COSTCO is really expensive for the same exact item I purchased at Sam's Club. The meat prices are extremely high. I saw steaks and chicken packages for $50, $60, and $300.00 dollars??/ WTF?? I was in sticker shock. The meat department employees will be rolling up in BMW's soon. I have no idea how this Warehouse stays in Business, but I would never recommend this store to anyone. It is too expensive, so you are better off shopping at Stop and Shop, Big Y, Shoprite or any store other than COSTCO. You'll save money shopping elsewhere easily. COSTCO IS SUPER EXPENSIVE, SO STAY AWAY AND SHOP WISELY. read more

Still 3 stars (A-OK). The rotisserie chicken is amazeballs and a steal at $5. Driving home with it was a challenge in self control because it smelled fan-freaking-tastic (and was juicy, meaty and delicious to boot). I wish their liquor "store" had a bit more to offer. I'm a beer girl and they've got squat for a decent selection. I read that people love the Kirkland toilet paper so we bought a boat load of it at a good price. read more

CHEAP BEER AND GAS! How interesting that both of these things are approximately 5-10% ethyl alcohol. Coincidence? Yes. Anyway, it's nice to have a cheap, clean gas station here. And the beer and liquor selection, although modest, is pretty darn good for a warehouse club! Feast your eyes on the world's cheapest beer - you guessed it - Kirkland Light. Available only in 48-racks, $22 plus tax and bottle deposit will keep you playing beer pong, flip cup, and other popular drinking games every night. Uhm, I mean drinking responsibly. Even better than all of the above: The infamous red course at Stanley Golf Course was pretty much completely razed to make room for this huge corporate enterprise. The red course made me want to quit golf... good riddance. If there's one place that can say they both sell gallons of mayonnaise and contributed to the destruction of America's golf courses... it must be a hit. read more

What can I say? I love everything about Costco. I could live at Costco. From their cheap gas prices, to their $5 rotisserie chickens, free samples... And not to mention their $1.50 hot dog and soda combo, you just can't go wrong. My husband also loves their $4 chicken Caesar salad. I have to give Costco serious brownie points for sticking to their guns and never increasing their food prices. Oh, and I recently discovered their $3 froyo is only 430 calories. Yum. I come nearly every week and look forward to seeing the new books, which apparently they receive on the day the books are released. Their bathrooms are also clean, which is a major plus! read more

Been to this Costco to buy and return stuff, both - as you do when you are a Costco member. Most of the staff is polite, but we did encounter an extremely rude person on staff. When that happened, the manager did offer service recovery, so it's good to know they were trying. There is gas here, a liquor store too. The liquor store staff was super helpful, with picking beer and wine for a party I was trying to pick alcohol for. Usually crowded, no matter which time of day I go. But I have always found parking. Their parking lot is fenced off from the adjoining target; I wish it wasn't. Then one could park in any of the two lots, and be done with the trip for that week. Everything else seemed to be the same as any other Costco. read more

Reasonably priced and good quality food, especially with the large availability of organic items! The other household items and clothes are nice too. I got a pair of pants that fit me perfectly, as a "short" My main complaint is that the selection and stock is often so unpredictable. Two visits in the same month, there was NO chicken breasts at all (one of my staples from Costco). I also love their seaweed salad and general tsaos chicken, but those are not consistently stocked. Thankfully, with respect to the chicken breasts and general tsaos chicken, I can stock up on them and put 'em in my deep freezer when they are available. For a quick lunch or dinner while running errands, hubby and I can't resist the unbeatable price of $1.50 hot dog with soda. We've also gotten their combo pizza which is not extraordinary but a good deal, plentiful, and tasty. Also unbeatable is their $4.99 rotisserie chicken. Healthier option for a quick dinner. Lastly, some of the cheapest gas you'll get in Connecticut - sometimes even cheaper than over the border, in Massachusetts, where I usually get my gas since I work in Springfield. Win! It is in a great location to run other errands too - down the street from Westfarms Mall and other plazas, and right next to Target. Finally, I chose Costco over Sam's and BJs because of their reputation for treating their employees well - and it definitely shows in their treatment and attitude towards customers. read more

Ordered our tires online, came in on a busy Sunday, without an appointment. Reuben had excellent customer service, and was hilarious, the customers in front of us left smiling too! Quoted us an hour and a half for installation, but the truck was done in about a half an hour. Definitely purchase tires from here again! read more

Could my heart BE any happier? I was waiting for my BJs membership to expire before heading over to Costco but I'm so glad the time has come! Also - PRO TIP: they're running a LivingSocial deal right now for a household membership plus a $20 gift card and coupons for oodles of freebies for just $55 (normally the cost of the membership alone). This location is brand new (just opened in the fall) so the store is, naturally, in mint condition. Add in ample parking, cheap gas ($1.59 tonight, what, am I in high school again?), and a fantastic selection of high quality products (the produce and baked goods surprisingly stand out... oh and $5 rotisserie chickens), and you have one happy Emily. read more

I was so excited to hear about the new Costco. It's in a great location- close to Westfarms and Target. However, I was let down immensely! I bought produce twice in the past two months and each time, it was rotten or moldy. The avocados were literally rotten and didn't last more than two days in my fridge. Many of the lemons had fuzzy mold on them. Finally, I overheard another customer at the checkout line describe mold on her produce. The clerk was rude and said she probably picked it from the "bottom of the box." I'm sorry, but there should be NO moldy food items at all! I will also mention that the bottle return machines are almost always full, and it takes a long time before a staff member will assist. This also happened to me twice. The only reason I may go back is for the paper products and prepackaged items. Otherwise, don't waste your time getting a membership! read more

This review is for the hearing aid department . There's a girl named Jenn who I dealt with long distance from California. My 89 year old mother lost her hearing aids last year . We didn't even realize she had an insurance policy on aids when I happened to call for an appointment for new hearing aids for Mom. Jenn went into action and looked up all the info plus faxed me paperwork and in a matter of 30 minutes had reordered a brand new pair for my mother . I thought we would have to spend $3500 for new hearing aids! Five days later my mother gets the new aids fitted by John and life is great again . Jenn really went above and beyond for us and gave such excellent customer service . Thank you Jenn ! read more

Love Costco and am glad that we got a closer location. Huge bonus that it has a liquor store that sells the Kirkland brand liquors and wines. The wine is a great deal. If you like red, try their meritage. I can't cook anything other than cookies and pancakes, so I love the ready to cook foods in the refrigerated section. They have a salmon dish that you just put in the oven, and it comes out amazing. Costco's return policy can't be beat. They can look up prior purchases on your card, in case you lose the receipt. Never had an issue with a return, but I don't abuse it. My biggest use of the return policy is for clothes. They always have good deals, but it's not like you can try things on in the store. Be aware that things turn over quickly. If you see something you like, grab it before it's gone. As others have said, the gas is usually sold at the best price in the area. read more

This place is HUGE. Everything about this place screams big and luckily, I was in the mood for bulk items! This was my first time at Costco and I loved it! I bought Dove hair shampoo and conditioner for less than 10 dollars. 2 huge bottles. It is super easy to get lost and caught up in the store, but I had a list. Obviously, because they sell in bulk you're not going to find everything. They had Belvita breakfast biscuits, but not the chocolate flavor. But for what you pay, it is worth it! I also filled my gas tank for $2.03! It was awesome! I can't wait to go back! However, they do not accept Visa credit cards. Just debit, cash, check and I think one more credit card, but I do not remember. You can use any debit though. I think they will be accepting Visa in the near future but don't quote me on that. read more

Costco whats up we are in 2016 and they don't take American Express, thats a big no no for a lot of customers. The store was very clean and organized, that a plus. The best part of coming to Costco, you literally dont have to wait in long lines, i like how they have the cashier and the assistant, that is definitely a plus, good job Costco. My one star is for bad service. Costco sells products, but they do not provide Service. I bought a birthday cake for my daughter , tried to have someone write her name on the cake.no success. The only person "qualified" to do it was up front at mebership,collrctong money. When i spoke to one of the supervisors, he just did not care. At all. Even my daughter was able to see his careless behavior. This was at the store in new britain. PS: THE CAKE IS HORRIBLE . TOO SUGARY,THE KIDS HAVE NOT EVEN EATEN HALF OF IT. read more

Not that the world needs more Costcos, but I wish there was one closer to me. This location, one of the newer ones in CT, is my favorite. There is always ample parking, it's right off the highway, the gas is super cheap, and there is a liquor store attached. The setup is a little different than some of the other ones, so I get turned around every now and then, but I'll get used to it. There seem to always be a dozen sample carts offering delicious bites (so try to get there around lunch time!) and no trip to Costco is complete without a Very Berry Sundae. read more

My one Star is only for check out service from Ben. Everything else is 5 star. I purchased a graduation cake. The bakery did a BEAUTIFUL job. My fiancé put it into the carriage, then he purchased a box of plastic utensils, paper plates, salsa and bags of chips and popcorn. He managed to put everything in the carriage without putting anything heavy on the cake. While checking out he put everything up to be scanned but left the cake in the carriage. After the heavy box of utensils was scanned, Ben put it on-top of the cake and it instantly crushed the plastic onto the frosting. My fiancé removed it right away but the damage was done. The grad cap was cracked and the outline frosting was stuck to the cover and smeared on the cake. This is a warning for any customer buying a cake, you need to tell the check out employees not to put anything heavy on top of a cake. Don't assume they have common sense. read more

I've been a Costco/PriceClub member for 30+ years, and have shopped many of their locations. The experience has been consistently excellent, and the customer service is on par with REI and Nordstrom. You get a satisfaction guarantee, not just a limited product warranty. By contrast, I've found Sam's Club provides a Walmart-like experience. This location has great deals on eyeglasses, cheese, and even tires+installation. I've bought organic blueberries, Tuscan wine, Spanish Manchego cheese, Japanese Saki eyeglasses, and performance Michelin tires here. I especially like the tire shop as I have no concerns they are trying to sell me goods and services I don't need. True, there are lots of one-time deals that disappear quickly. That's par for the course at warehouse clubs and Trader Joes. read more

I have to start this review by thanking my parents for giving me the gift of a Costco membership. Yes, it's definitely logical for a single 22 year-old to buy things in bulk. I digress. I am a fan of this Costco! The staff is super friendly, just as you would expect of any Costco, and they provide fantastic service. They also have a variety of products, from food to clothing, which makes it a one-stop shop. I hate to admit it, but I've already bought four pairs of pants from here (oops... I don't think this is why my parents got me that membership). But I also have bought a variety of frozen food in bulk (I recommend the stuffed shells and the pre-seasoned salmon!). I also do love the Kirkland organic chocolate milk. Oh, and their liquor department is pretty dang fantastic. The one thing that I am not a fan of is their parking lot. First off, it's HUGE, so that's nice. However, the lack of cart corrals is like super concerning to me. It gets filled to the brim on weekends, and carts end up everywhere in the parking lot. As mentioned in the other reviews, they only accept debit, cash, check, and AmEx credit card. However, starting in April 2016, they will no longer be accept AmEx credit card, and will start accepting Visa credit card! read more

The lady who was working the kiosk was taking other customers despite the fact that they required us to sign in on a list and wait to be called. Waited well over an hour due to this. I never thought I could justify the cost of joining Costco because there is only my wife and I, but when the New Britain store opened and I received an offer that included a rotisserie chicken, batteries and more, I decided to give it a trial run. Probably the most tangible benefit, more than justifying the annual fee, turned out to be car rentals through Costco Travel. I have literally saved several $100's on rentals over the past 3 years. In the warehouse itself, I cannot leave without buying the $1.50 hot dog that comes with a soda and unlimited refills, the soda, not the hot dog. Other go to items include food samples, cheese, prescription eyeglasses, vitamins, plants & flowers, soup, granola and paper goods. Did I mention food samples? Periodically a seafood event takes place, usually preceding a holiday or currently the Super Bowl, when whole Dungeness crab is sold at a reasonable price. I also should mention that I broke the eyeglass frames and they replaced them free of charge. Lastly, gas prices are reasonable though not to a degree warranting a separate visit since we live several miles away from the warehouse. read more

The lines can be pretty long at time, which is to be expected. However, it just seems like maybe their checkout process could be improved a little bit to get people in and out of the store quicker. But that's pretty much the only drawback. They have a great selection of almost everything that you'll need. For example, the other day I came in here and finally found a certain bisque soup that I've been craving, yet no other stores in my immediate area seem to carry. Costo carries it however.. along with a few other delectable flavors of soup. Yummy. Now as far as pricing is concerned, I have found other retailer stores to offer more competitive prices on certain food staples: milk, bread, eggs, fruit, et cetera. But as far as mastering the 'buy in bulk' savings strategy to pass onto their members, Costo has it down to a science. All in all, I spent about $150 here for a whole bunch of stuff for my household that could've probably averaged closer to about $250, had I purchased them separately from other stores. So obviously, Costo excels in this area. The other thing which I feel deserves attention is how clean the store is! I've been to other warehouse type stores before, and Costco has all of them beat in terms of cleanliness. So that's also an added plus. The store team associates are also very friendly and obliging, in fact I have yet to encounter anyone in this store who hasn't been friendly and gone out of his/her way to help. Maybe the only other drawback to this location though is limited parking, sometimes it kind of seems like you have to drive around a few times to find a good spot. But other than a couple minor annoyances, this is a great place to shop. Highly recommended without a doubt. read more

I went to sign up and waited in line to be told rudely applications were elsewhere. I was not the only one waiting in line only to be told that applications were on a table by the door.The applications were buried in their mounds of coupons and pamphlets. There was no greeter to point out location of applications and to wait in the sign up line to be told that the applications were elsewhere is ridiculous. Once I completed the application they pushed their executive membership and store credit card to the point I left without signing up. I went to BJ's wholesale club and renewed my membership which took me five minutes. I will not be back. read more

I was embarrassed in front of several people in the store when the front desk manager announced I could not use my ebt card and could only use cash. It is against the law for a grocery store not to accept food stamps. I will be notifying the better business bureau of their practices against the poor. read more

I love Costco in general, and I had an especially fantastic experience with the tire center. Found a large nail in my tire, so I called while nearby to see if the tire center could help patch my tire, and within minutes of my phone call Wilbur, Jon and the team had my car in the service station ready to be worked on! The price was much more affordable than local tire centers I had visited in the recent past for another tire patch issue (different tire involved). The service was phenomenal! Who doesn't love Costco? The hardest part is shopping on a budget. As much as I love to get 100lbs of anything for relatively cheap, it also means I get less variety with my weekly grocery budget. This location is easy to get to off Rte 72 just down from the Mall. Don't be fooled by it's New Britain location, it is pretty much in Farmington/West Hartford. read more
