The only things I like about Fitzgeralds are that they're a local brand, they're conveniently located, and it's never been very crowded. But they don't have a great selection of items and prices are high. I don't know how a family could reasonably support a family if this was the only place to good shop. The vibe that comes across is an expensive chain market. But in a pinch, it will do. In the Plaza is also a CVS, new Japanese restaurant, jersey Mike's, etc. read more

Fitzgerald's Foods is a neighborhood grocery store. It's smaller than the big chains and is family owned. It's located in a plaza in downtown Simsbury. I stopped in for some snacks and milk. The store was clean and organized. They have a deli, meat department, bakery, and so on; it's a full service grocery store. The bakery was awesome. There were so many fresh baked treats. The store reminded me of Dave's Market in RI. Overall, a good spot for groceries! read more

Today I picked up my first sandwich from Fitzgerald's. I had the Sandy's BLT on gluten free bread. All in all it was good. I opted for regular mayo instead of chipotle. The worst part of the sandwich was the side salad you could pick to go with it. I picked the red potato salad. They tried to hard and it shows. To much seasoning, onions to big and the mayo in it was not the best. I don't think based on taste they use the same mayo for their sandwiches as the salads, but I maybe wrong. read more

Great little store! We've stopped here many times during our daughter's four years at school in Simsbury. I've relied on their fast deliveries to her school for everyday care packages to birthday flowers to celebratory cakes or chocolate dipped strawberries. It's always clean and is staffed with friendly people. The deli counter and salad / soup bar are especially impressive. The fish and meat counter look inviting but I've never bought anything there because I stay in hotels when I'm here. This store offers specialty items--olive oils, various sea salts--that I would experiment with if I lived here. read more

Wow worst customer service in town!! I pre-ordered a birthday cake for my daughter and went to pick up. Waited in line with a couple other customers and their 4-5 employees kept ignoring us for at least 10-15 mins. They were too busy cracking jokes with each other and munching on cookies to help out waiting customers. It's quite appalling to see what type of people they employ. None of them wear masks - so good luck eating food from these people. This was my second visit to this store, and my last. Never will I set foot here again! I walked out without picking up my order (thanks for wasting my time). Lucky for me another fabulous healthy food store opened down the road, with stellar customer service. read more

This store is very overpriced and the prepared foods are always very dry. They have a variety of selections which is nice, but the produce is always rotten and sometimes inedible. The food is not good enough for the price that it costs. If you are going to buy groceries, you should get the freshest products and the most for your money, you will not get that at Fitzgeralds. read more

I pulled up the store today and noticed the very large sign in the window stating that customers could wear or not wear a mask based on their level of comfort. I was surprised given the state of spread in the area. I'm not comfortable shopping with anyone who feels comfortable shopping unmasked. The size of the sign gave me anti mask vibes. Overpriced for cold soggy sandwich, I got the pigs pen which is made on two slices of toast for 7.99 don't mind you that most of the meat Inside my sandwich was partially still cold. Everyone in the deli was too focused on things that didn't matter like one of the ladies ex boyfriends then actually worrying about my sandwich. I'm thoroughly unimpressed the meat had really good flavor but once again it was literally still cold all throughout my sandwich. I'm impressed. I bought pot stickers and a side salad for lunch from the meals to go section . It was 7 bucks and change and worth it. I took a loop around the store and really liked what I saw. A good selection of items in a clean well organized space that was well staffed. But here's were I need to address a few things relating to other reviews. Fellow Yelpers let me help you out here and explain how large chains offer the same product for less than an independent store. The Walmarts and Stop and Shops of the world get to negotiate better wholesale prices because they purchase more units if a given product and often have their own internal distribution centers which reduces shipping costs. Please, stop writing reviews complaining that you don't get Wal-Mart prices at an independent higher end retailer. Fitzgeralds is an enhanced convenience store/deli/bakery that sells beer. Of course you aren't going to get the selection you get at Price Chopper because this store is 1/5 the size. You should have known that before you walked in, based on the size of the strorefront. I like to shop local and Fitzies gives me lots of reasons. The new meat counter has some wonderful selections and the butchers now their stuff. From fresh on premises ground beef and pork to some great marinated tips and occasionally some dry aged beef to un enhanced pork... All good. The fish counter is much better than the prior owners. They vegetable aisle is smaller but boasts a decent selection and and small and getting more reliable organic section. Local produce in the summer. Local dairies (Trinity farm) in the dairy section. Not the cheapest, but then again I fined cheap beef , chicken and fish sort of lackluster . I am only shopping for two, sot the convienence are worth it. Time is money. read more

Great place for lunch, and this is coming from someone who does not like grocery store lunches. Homemade soups, daily 'hot lunch' selections, sushi from nearby Ginza, a nice salad bar, deli subs on demand and a beautiful selection of desserts. All this in the store that's fast to get in and out of. My only criticism is some of the items in the pastry case our bakery quality others are grocery store quality in taste. read more

I really like Fitzgerald's. I work nearby so it is the most convenient place to get lunch. The prices are higher than most grocery stores but I like their selection. I enjoy their bagels and breads, always been fresh. Pizza slices are good. Not tried the soups yet. The tuna salad in the deli is what I call nifty and the chicken kebob skewers were yummmm. This is a place I go to for specific items. The store clerks are friendly which is super rare for this part of CT. I've met friendlier people in Siberia, frankly. Prepared meals are overpriced and underwhelming. Picked up the corned beef and cabbage meal today. Potatoes were not washed so there's a nice dirt taste and crunch. Threw away immediately. Fitzgerald's is a perfect family run store. As a resident of Simsbury I rely on this store. The staff is friendly and unlike the big commercial grocery stores they are able to accommodate you in any way. I get my meats, breads and last minute no-time-to-cook dinners here because its always super fresh. My kids and I also stop by on the weekends for a bakery treat which are delicious. I love the fact that they always donate to the community and never turns down a charity/school event. read more

You just have to appreciate the things about the smaller stores in our area. I hope the big chains don't swallow them up. What we like about Fitzgeralds is their ready made dinners: they are really pretty good-- especially the beef stroganoff and the quiches. I believe they sell the best quiche in town. They are deep and flavorful and if you heat them up in the oven instead of zapping them, you will appreciate the crust. I also appreciate their bakery. No, they don't use all butter so I don't buy their cookies. But they have a really talented baker who makes all sorts of yummy tarts and cakes for special occasions. She is really helpful and will make whatever you want fresh and waiting for you to pick up. The ingredients in their regular line isn't my fav because I like some better ingredients like at Whole Foods. But if I don't want to drive there, Fitzgeralds fills the bill. This store also carries some different gourmet things and some local pasta sauces and the products from Stonewall Kitchens....things you can't get at Stop n Shop. The produce section has a small organic section also. I have never tried their pizzas which they sell by the slice, but I've seen lots of people carry them away. read more

Kind of the last of the independently owned non-chain grocery stores. Yay for small local businesses, but they're not without their issues. First off, limited selection. I can see stopping here to pick up something in a pinch, but as far as doing your weekly shopping here, no. Leads to point number two, really pricey with at least a quarter of the store filled with Stonewall Kitchen stuff. I stop here on occasion to grab dinner on my way home. They have a selection of pre made entrees, but a lot of them are random dishes that just strike me as odd. It never fails when I bring one of these entrees home (tonight was Mac and cheese) and as has been the case too many times, it was disappointing. Bland, boring and lacking taste. I wish I would just learn my lesson and stop buying these entrees, but I seem to forget about the issues when I'm desperate for an easy dinner. Total waste of money. I hate to even say it, but going to Stop and Shop proves to be a better option for choices, cost and better quality food. read more

After living in Simsbury for 8 years, I cannot keep my extreme disappointment with Fitzgerald for myself. The produces are horrible and expensive. A couple of time, I handed some rotten herbs to a staff asking them how can they sell this. Not a word from them. The staff is rude and impolite. Tonight I struggle finding my way to get something in the dairy fridge. The staff ignore me with their carts while discussing together how they were doing with their Christmas shopping for the grandparents. At the front desk I asked for gift certificates for the holidays. The staff once again was rude, no good evening, how are you, nothing. He was disappointed when I showed him that I had holiday cards and the item I finally got in the dairy case and asked him for little envelopes for the gift certificates credit cards. With Big Y coming down the road, I hope management is going to revisit the quality of customer service, the freshness of their produces, the cleanliness and the situation in the parking lot not forgetting most of the overprice merchandise. read more

You can rent bikes here! But, better yet, they are FREE to rent! Of course, there are two caveats to that: 1) You need to bring cash for a $10 deposit which you get back at the end and 2) you sometimes get what you pay for. While these bikes were fairly decent, they were not what I would call top of the line bike rentals. Once you've gone in and put down your $10, you get your pick of the 10-15 bikes that they have lined up outside - some have baskets and others do not. We went fairly early in the day on a Sunday, so there was no shortage of bikes to choose from and the girl who helped us was very friendly and helpful. This was a great way to spend some time on a Sunday morning, and if I wasn't headed out to do additional activities, I probably would have picked up my weekly groceries while at Fitzgerald's as well. Besides having all of the essentials, they have awesome options for a quick lunch/meal when you aren't in the mood for the normal take-out options in the area. I respect " mom and pop" shops, or essentially family owned businesses, and do my best to support them, but in this case I just don't think it's deserved I understand they have to make their prices a bit higher because they are not a large chain, but seeing food coloring ( for example) for 4 dollars and change at Fitzgerald's and then seeing it at Stop n Shop ( which itself is not very cheap) for $1.25 makes me wonder how a store can justify a markup of nearly 300%. The things about that is, the prices are like that with everything in the store! The deli offers a lunch combo type deal where you get a sandwich and a side for some set price. The thing that neither they nor their menu states is that only some of their sides apply to this combo. So you're probably thinking no big deal, I'll just get the side I want instead and pay a little extra, NOPE! Store policy doesn't allow you to do that, even if you are willing to hand over the extra cash?! Where is the logic in that? read more
