As other reviewer's have already stated, prices are typically on "the higher side". But I only stop at The Fresh Market for specialty items that you wouldn't be able find at a typical grocery store. That said, I only expect to drop in about once every few months. Layout of the store was decent, and it hasn't been crowded the few times I've dropped in, so far. Consequently, the parking lot situation isn't as crazy as Whole Foods down the road. read more

The Fresh Market was founded in 1982 and is headquartered in North Carolina. There are approximately 160 locations in the U.S. This one in Avon, CT is located in a busy plaza with Marshalls as its neighbor. There is a street light getting into and out of the plaza and during peak hours, it can be busy. I've been to a Fresh Market in Florida and it reminds me of a mixture of Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. It's a nice store and the items they sell are high quality; which in turn, the product is more expensive than other grocery stores. They have everything a regular grocery store has; from the seafood, meat, prepared foods, produce, dried goods, and bakery sections. I really liked their bakery; I purchased some brownies and a slice of cake, all so moist and decadent. The prepared foods looked pretty good too. If you have the means, this is a great spot to shop for your weekly groceries. However, if you're on a budget, it might not be as feasible. Either or, it's a nice grocery chain and I like going there once in a while for a treat. read more

This was my first time!! I have always wanted to stop in but never have. I had some time before an appointment, so I walked around for a few. Everything looked really fresh and some of the food smelled so good. The shelves were full and they offered a wide variety of snacks and crackers. One of my favorite things was all the pre made meals they offered! I thought the prices were pretty fair too. I love that they have indoor seating too! No too impressed. Decided to try Fresh Market instead of competitor to compare. Every employee I encountered did not want to be bothered except the nice lady in the deli ! I approached 3 employees, 1 in dairy, one in the cracker aisle and another in last aisle. All 3, didn't seem interested to help. Although one employee heard me asking about papaya juice and walked me to the area. The store looked great but the customer service was lacking. read more

Received fresh flowers for Mother's Day that were amazing! My son used Door Dash and they arrived exactly within the time the text said. The flowers were not only beautiful, blue Hydrangeas, white and yellow Roses, pink and white Bell Flowers...but they were packaged perfectly! The Fresh Market florist took great care to wrap the more fragile flowers, like the Hydrangeas, separately with their own water source, securely fastened to the stem. In addition, the entire bouquet had its own additional water source, and then wrapped in florist paper, with a ribbon and card. The delivery person was pleasant and wished me a Happy Mother's Day! Poor experience today At The Fresh Market (Wethersfield). I was 2nd in line at the Butcher counter. There was 1 gentleman working. He was helping another customer. I knew something was up when he kept tapping his headphones and talking to someone. He finished working with the first customer, looked at me and said he would be with me in 1 minute. He went into the back, took off his white coat and left his workstation. Just left. I waited more than 5 minutes.....nothing. Another customer came over and asked workers in prepared foods to get someone. The person they send had no idea of what i was looking for from the butcher. Unacceptable customer service. Do you honestly think this would at the butcher at Stew Leonard's or D&D Market in Wethersfield? Not a chance. Sorry Fresh Market. read more

Whole Foods just opened up down the street, and The Fresh Market is still more pleasant to be in in my opinion ! I was sooo excited for Whole Foods to open, but I found it to be too loud, too big (warehouse ceilings are awful for acoustics!), and too busy. This Fresh Market is like a breath of fresh air. I love walking in, which brings you by the seasonal displays and the above average floral department. These flowers are stunning! Forget Stop & Shop or BigY, head to Fresh Market for a next-level bouquet and sweets. I love the produce section here. Today I bought watermelon chunks, cotton candy grapes, beautiful cherries, huge artichokes like I used to get in San Diego when I lived there. All of their produce is PERFECT! You don't have to spend a lot of time searching for the perfect fruit. The seafood department and deli are also wonderful. We went at early afternoon, just as several fresh rotisserie chickens came out. The aroma was too much, I brought home one of their white wine roasters. They have large Ready to Cook, pre-made meals and sandwiches and salad areas! I wish this store were closer, I'd be there regularly. If you are close by, I highly recommend Fresh Market as your go-to for pre-made meals! The bakery runs full time. A large section of the store is devoted to their freshly baked breads, and their almost famous bakery! They even set aside an area to display their Gluten-free bakery items. Fresh Market is a great place to find special diet foods, dairy free milks, butter, yogurt and more. They have bulk ingredients, candy and nuts. Make your own peanut butter machine and more. This past Christmas Eve was the first time we have ever ordered a platter from Fresh Market. The website and ordering options are incredibly easy and I received a confirmation within 24 hours. I was a bit worried because I ordered the caprese pinwheels and classic meat and cheese pinwheels and I didn't want the bottom of the wheels to get soggy. At pickup the line was a bit confusing because the table was set near the seafood area and I wasn't sure who was waiting for catering and who on seafood. When I found the correct line, I was pleasantly greeted and my order located very quickly. In addition to the pinwheels I also ordered the fruit platter. Leaving the store was busy with long lines but it was Christmas Eve, so it was very expected. Now the food and fruit. The caprese pinwheels were delish. The veggies crisp and roll perfectly soft and not wet. The classic meat and cheese were ham and turkey. Again, could not have been happier with the taste, texture and appearance. The honey mustard dip is to die for. The fruits were ripe, sweet and beautiful. I will absolutely order from Fresh Market again and more things next time. read more

I came to this market hoping that I would be able to access it. I need a mobility scooter to shop with because I can't stand a long time. They consider meeting accessibility requirements here a broken down wheelchair with a basket on it that you manually wheel around. First of all, most of us can read and know that obviously this isn't Whole Foods. I'm glad to support someone who isn't Jeff Bozo. Anywho--I'm so glad to have found this market! The way you can tell they're quality is by their produce and bakery departments. I am a food connoisseur so I knew I stumbled on a good thing the moment I walked in. The place is clean, organized, and carries a wide variety of organic foods. Currently, I am addicted to their bakery section where they seem to rotate variety of breads, pastries, cookies, sweet breads, and rolls frequently. Also, their deli section is pretty neat. Delicious salads and wraps to choose from. Like any other specialty grocer, you won't find everything here, but you will find unique delicious things that you will keep coming back for. Staff if very friendly and polite. Definitely a much better experience than the pretentious Whole Foods. read more

The younger and less impressive brother of Whole Foods. I stop in to Fresh Market rarely simply because it's way too pricey and limited to make it your sole shopping destination, and if I'm going to Big Y or Stop & Shop I figure I might as well get everything there. Fresh Market does have a decent salad bar at like $8/lb, which makes for an easy and fast lunch. There is also an olive bar and seafood bar by weight. They have a wide selection of prepared foods and will periodically have a special offer for certain holidays (like a family package for Memorial Day, etc.). The craft beer selection is unimpressive for a store of its type. Even Big Y has a better selection, in my opinion. The one reason I will ALWAYS come back to Fresh Market, however, is the fact that they're the only place I've found outside of the midwest that sells Graeter's ice cream. Seriously, if you know what's good for you, make a beeline to Fresh Market as soon as you can and buy the chocolate chip Graeter's ice cream, it is life changing. read more

We had business in Avon and were attracted by the curb appeal of this upscale market. We went at 6:30 on a Tuesday evening, looking for some ready-to-eat or heat-and-eat food. On entering, we said "aha!" - the store's decor was lovely. Beautiful arrangements of flowers are right near the entrance. I thought they were priced dearly for supermarket flowers (a sunflower, a few carnations, phlox and greens was $20). As we strolled around, it became obvious that the thing this place lacks is consistency. While some displays were stocked and labeled, others were near-empty and/or had no price signs. In the deli much of the items were gone. The sides, available with roast chicken combo meals, were near empty, and the pans over-heated, dry and unappealing. The meat counter had obviously been busy, because it'd been worked over and not neatened. Most of the employees were absorbed. One fellow gave us a friendly "hi" on his way into the prepared food station. We'll give it another try earlier in the day. Let's get this out of the way right now -this IS NOT Whole Foods. It doesn't have the size or the variety of Whole Foods. It's about 1/3 it's size, and doesnt have the hot food or eat-in dining section like Whole Foods. But it does have a lot to offer. It instantly becomes the best salad bar in the Farmington Valley- beautiful salad veggies, cheese, sliced meats, prepared sides like corn salad and grains, and a pretty nifty seafood salad bar - three or four shrimp dishes ($9.99/lb). They have 3 soups- tonight I had the Thai chicken and it was real good- just the right amount of zip. They have an amazing produce section, big cheese section, OK sushi section, large dairy section, the expectedly impressive meat/seafood counter, terrific sandwiches and prepared foods of every description, great bakery, and a good sized grocery/frozen food section. But it's pricey. Parking wasnt too bad tonight- it was our second trip there. The only thing I hated was that the front sliding doors made the most maddeningly annoying squeaky creaking noises I have heard in a long time. Put some olive oil on that, s'il vous plait? read more

I so badly want to love this place. Yet time and time again I am disappointed. It doesn't matter whenever I go there is never any rotisserie chickens, they smirk and say they'll be ready in an hour and a half. Lately, the meat department acts as though they are doing you a favor by helping you, and nothing is ever stocked. Every time it is Thursday there is never any sushi prepared. The bakery department when you go to buy bread is nearly almost always stale. It's so convenient, yet never ever has what I need in stock. The manager seems to be consistently yelling at people in front of customers yet no changes have been made. This is week 5 of attempting to pick up dinner to no avail due to nothing being stocked. Not sure how many more tries I can give this place. The cashiers are always so helpful and attentive, I would give them 10 stars if I could! read more

The Fresh Market, to me,and being able to browse around is a type of wish fulfillment. It is the best grocery store (to my knowledge) in the area for someone who wants to eat organic, Whole 30, grain-free, etc. It represents more of a life style then just another place to get fuel to feed the body. Yes, it is more expensive then your Stop and Shop or Big Y, but can you put a price on a fill your own malted milk ball station? (Okay, yes, yes you can. $8.99 for a pound of mint malted milk balls, FYI) It's for people who want to, or can afford to, be more selective about their food selection. They have more rotation of brands and end caps with new products, last night I found a dairy-free shrimp bisque. Part of me regrets not splurging for the dairy-free vodka sauce just to see how it tastes. Every time you go in there's something new. I only wish I could be one of those lucky enough to afford to shop there regularly! read more

I love this place because it has a lot of specialty food that can't be found in a lot of places. The bakery is what I go for though. The cannoli's are perfect and, to be honest, some of the best I've ever had (even better than some Italian bakeries!) The chocolate chip scones, cookies and fruit tarts are great too but the best dessert is the boston creme cupcake. It is filled with delicious boston cream in a vanilla cake and topped with chocolate frosting with an extra dollop of boston creme. Not to mention it's topped off with a swirly chocolate candy. I run to this store for lunch all the time; the selection of organic foods is really nice for the size of the store. The floral department is great, and so is the candy aisle. I'm giving 4 stars because the last time I went for lunch I grabbed a pasta salad from the deli case, when I got to work and opened it I realized quickly that it was totally spoiled/ rank. What do you get when you cross a Trader Joes, Whole Foods, Meat House, and a bunch of other specialty places? This place. First a few caveats: It just opened. And it was mobbed. So it probably wasn't the best shopping experience. Parking is very tight so wait a week or so until things die down. Even so, there's a lot to like about this place. The prepared foods section is terrific. Different kinds of empanadas, dumplings, salads, sushi etc. Perfect for picking up a quick meal that isn't pizza. And the best part: You can get free samples of virtually anything. In fact, its encouraged. I got a terayaki chicken wing and it was TERRIFIC. Good looking salad bar too. The fresh produce is very good as well. Wide ranging and plentiful. Looking forward to when the real farm season begins to see what they get and how much local stuff they purchase. The meat section was fine -- though I'll probably still use the Meat House. And there were lots of speciality foods though the Big Y has a broader Asian foods section, for example. So this won't be a place for one-stop shopping. But its a great substitute for Whole Foods. Still, perhaps we had too high of expectations but it won't replace Trader Joe's either with its speciality foods as well. So, we'll add this to the rotation and definitely use for dinners or a lunch. read more

I hate to give this place 2 stars, but there's a good reason for it. First, it's a beautiful, upscale grocery store. Think Whole Foods or Trader Joe's, with much nicer decor. They have a great selection of high-quality food. It's like a grocery boutique. BUT...they must spend as little as they possibly can on cashiers, because every time I go in, there's only one or two working, and loooooong lines to check out. I usually spend 4X as much time waiting in line as I do shopping. So hire some cashiers, Fresh Market...until then, I'll shop elsewhere. read more

They have no customer service skills at all! I was asking the man about the fish because the signs were in the wrong place and instead of coming to assist me, he wanted to stay on FaceTime. After waiting, he then hangs up, comes to assist me and starts snatching the signs to place them in the appropriate places. He was rude as hell! I greatly thank Vivian; new florist & Tracy for the extrodianary job of floral arrangements for my daughters Engagement Party Saturday. I told them the theme was "Picnic" I provided the baskets, Mason Jars & explained I wanted garden flowers. As an experienced Gardner my expectations for what I wanted were high. I choose Fresh Market because I tend to find they have higher quality of flowers than the neighboring big box grocery stores in the area. I shop there regularly and often buy there flowers to brighten up my home. The arrangements were spectacular. Our guests complimented on the arrangements & asked who the florist was. We even had people asking to take them home. I want to thank Bruce, Manager, Avon and his staff for a memorable event. I highly recommend Fresh Market for anyone's next special event. read more

A close relative to Whole Foods, Fresh Market is located in Avon, CT on rt. 44 Once you get past the rush hour traffic from the main road you will enter a playground for some of the best groceries in the area. Fresh and organic fruits, juices, coffee, healthy snacks (serve and portion your own priced by weight) even including some exotic cool drinks in the open refrigerator, next to a large selection of yummy baked goods! cookies to bread mmmmm. Be careful going in here when you're hungry because your tab will add up much quicker than stop and shop! Now if you're true to Whole Foods, you may find that there is a less of a "hot" or prepared foods selection, as well as on-the-go lunch and dinners but its definitely worth a shot! A small market that is nice to shop but short on many necessities. The frozen section is really tiny, but it has some items not seen elsewhere, like tamales. The dairy cooler is full of many types of coffee drinks and juices, but relatively few yogurts. Produce section is fair-sized but lacking the variety of Whole Foods, especially in organics. Deli section has some nice prepared foods, but the workers there are always too busy yakking with each other to serve me so I leave without getting the dinner items I'd hoped for. The best sections are the cheeses, the candy and nuts, bakery, and the grocery section which, though limited, has interesting brands and products. It's OK. read more

Oh this chain of grocery stores had me as soon as I heard classical music playing at their Maryland location. It makes for such a pleasant experience, soothing almost. I look for a Fresh Market usually when I want a quality baguette, cheese or chocolate pastry. The prices are a bit higher compared to other stores, even in the Avon/ Hartford area, so I am usually selective about what I buy here. That said, the quality of food is excellent! read more

Baby Whole Foods - smaller, and pretty expensive. Honestly, I'd drive the extra 15 minutes over the mountain to the Bishop's Corner WF. I realize they aren't trying to BE Whole Foods, but they're close enough in purpose that Whole Foods would serve the purpose better. Their prepared foods looked pretty good though - and they had an extensive collection of beers. They also have two PITA Metromint flavors - chocolate and goodberry.
