What a TERRIBLE store. Poor customer service, mistagged items, and refusal to honor prices in their own app (which were also on signs). Let's not forget to include one of the grossest bathrooms I've ever had the displeasure to walk into. Let's talk details. The women's room was bad. I'll spare you the nitty gritty and end with the fact that there weren't paper towels and the dryers were broken. And it smelled. Ick. I picked up an item on the clearance shelf that said it was a certain price. By the time I got to the front of the store, it had gone up seven dollars. When I told the manager that wasn't the price, he insisted on walking me to the back to check. Fine - but on the way, we had to stop so he could help other people. Again, ok, but did we have to take three detours? Then, we got there and the price had been removed. Again, fine because these things happen. But when I opened the Walmart app on my phone, scanned the barcode and showed them the item, the manager said, "We don't honor prices in the app." I'm a little shocked they wouldn't honor their own prices, but moreso by his "go away" attitude. He made certain I knew that I was dismissed, and he acted like I was lying. And that's what I just can't forgive. It looks like I'll be shopping at basically any other competitor for the time being. It's not worth the few dollars in savings. I'd rather be treated like a decent human being than come to this hole again. I doubt they'll miss my money - it's Walmart, after all - but I have choices, and I choose something better. read more

This review is the for the Walmart chain store location in Kingstowne, Virginia located on Kingstowne Boulevard. Have been coming to this location off and on for more than 10-years, but will choose another Walmart location if available and decided after yesterday; to write a review. First of all, this is a generally busy location in the course of a business day. The clientele and staff stand out as being international, multi-cultural and diverse in nationality; common to find difficulty with English-fluency. This is different that other area Walmart locations. The general appearance of the store is worn and not up to cleanliness standards if you visit the bathrooms during business hours. They went through a floor-sales reorganization recently, however, it hasn't "upgraded" the overall experience shopping here. Biggest issue: EXTREMELY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, consistently. Employees consistently display the lowest standards of any Walmart I have visited. There are managers on duty, however, just like the employees they can be 'mouthy' and do not display minimum courtesy, professionalism, etiquette or motivation in doing their job. Waiting for assistance at the 'customer service' counter is a mind-numbing experience and will be all any patron needs to see of employee capability to make you wanna walk out. A further experience: try to find an employee who walk you to a display location, to find a common item you require. I would like to nominate this location to Walmart HQ, to focus an intense managment-visit-inspection-campaign aimed at BRINGING this Walmart location UP to the LOWEST standard for the entire retail chain, nationwide. read more

RUINED MY CAR! I would not recommend at all going to this Walmart auto center I just went in for an oil change and turns out that oil is leaking from my car even though I brought it to them in excellent condition. Turns out that they cracked the bottom of my car where he put the oil and they failed to tell me about it and lie to my face and say that the car was fine afterwards. Then the lady ( KAYLA) that took pictures of my car actually took pictures of a DIFFERENT CAR and the manager CHRIS and MOHAMMED We're both absolutely no help because I just asked for the pictures of my car and the lady didn't even wanna talk to me because she knew she was wrong and the mangers don't even talk to you and walk away!!!!! I'm located in falls church and there's no way I can go back to the store today. So y called costumer service and they did nothing. They put me on hold for 37 minutes. Really poor service. They had lamps in the wrong location with the wrong price and I had to wait to find the location until they told me they wouldn't take the price that was marked. Then I used a coupon that said but 2 get 1 free only to find afterward that the coupon wasn't accepted. Rather than making an adjustment, I had to wait in line at customer service. This is not to mention how crowded this store was, unable to even turn around for associates leaving cars in the way. read more

Why, in densely populated areas, companies such as Walmart can't build more stores? They crush their competition and leave you no choice but to shop with them. Then the shopping experience is something out of a bad sitcom. The stores are packed because it's the only place available(this is where the characters come out), the shelves are bare because the employees can't keep up with the demand, the stores are tired and run down. The details show, the parking lots are dirty, the carts are old and beat up, the selection is lacking and minor repairs don't get repaired. It's so nice to go to a mega Walmart in the exurbs and the country. They are clean, the staff are so friendly, there is space and selection, with stocked shelves! Alexandria had always been the last place to get any modern stores and/or renovated stores. For peace of mind, shop at the end of the month. read more

Been here twice. All it takes is one bad experience. Went to sporting goods section, needed assistance with a purchase that was locked up. No visible associate in sight. I wait for a few minutes, then have to roam other areas to find someone someone. They mention on a walkie that assistance is needed in sporting goods. 10 min pass while I'm waiting, I flag another person passing by. She says she'll find someone. Couple secs later, intercom calls an associate to sporting goods. A small line forms and another 10 minutes passes. I call the store number because I've been waiting for 25 minutes. After the call, another hail over store intercom. Assistant manager Stephanie must've been tired of hearing this call over the intercom because she came to assist herself. (Thank you Stephanie) I dunno if they were short-staffed today in the Sporting Goods department, but regardless, 25-30min wait to get an item out of a case is unacceptable in any retail store. read more

I swore I'd never come in here again, but my wife ordered photo Christmas cards here and so I had to come pick them up. Again I say, go somewhere else if you can. Total crap hole. She ordered the cards for same day service and of course they weren't ready on time. Machine was broke. So I told them I'd come back the next day. The next day, my wife got a text saying they were ready. I gave them a couple hours, just to be safe, before I went to pick them up. THEY STILL WERE NOT READY. I live in Kingstowne and consistently go to another one (any other one). I have been living over here for 15+ years and this is absolutely the worst Walmart I have ever gone to. The stock crews are always all over the place by 10pm and make customers feel like we are in the way. Ummm you close at midnight. You go in at 6am and the stock crew makes you feel the same way. When I ordered delivery from the store or online, half of the time after I receive delivery notification my items aren't delivered. I am not sure what happens to them, but after looking all around my items weren't delivered to my building/door. This afternoon, I was waiting outside from 12:15 - 12:45pm, the scheduled delivery time was supposed to be 12:38pm. I received notification at 12:44pm that my order was delivered at 12:44pm. No one entered my building during that time so the delivery driver must have stolen my order or threw it out. When you order online you don't have the option to leave a tip for the driver so maybe they got mad because I didn't leave a tip in advance. I don't know. read more

Purchased an item online and picked this store for pick-up. Website said item would be ready to pick up within four (4) hours. Four hours went by and by this time it was early evening. No big deal I thought, as I didn't need the item right away. Next day, checked the website around noon and it was still in "processing" mode. I called the store directly. Totally unprofessional: 1) Kept getting transferred around. 2) One employee kept calling me "dude" and "man" as he tried to figure out who he should transfer me to. 3) No one seemed to know what the online processing system was and/or who within the store was in charge of it. 4) Got transferred to some department where the line just kept ringing. 5) Hung up and called back again, asking to speak with a manager. Was put on hold for at least five minutes. Was then told the manager "was too busy" and I should call back. Didn't even offer to ask for my name, number, or online order number to investigate. 6) Ended up call the 1-800 number to lodge a complaint and cancel my online order. At least the wait wasn't long and the 1-800 employee was much more professional and cancelled my order quickly and sent an email confirmation. Never going to order anything online again from Walmart and/or have this store handle it. read more

whenever I come in here it's like a FML moment. The lines are ALWAYS long, it doesnt matter what time of day it is. The upside of coming here is you get to see some of the strangest outfits you've ever seen. I stopped shopping at any Walmart store because of the Kingstowne Walmart store. This has got to be the nastiest, most foul, disorganized and dysfunctional store around. This Walmart store is always packed and for an area as nice as Kingstowne, where are all these people coming from and what type of people shop/work here? I appreciate diversity, but is it too much to ask could there be someone who speaks adequate English working at this store!? I am not xenophobic, but it is absolutely ridiculous that it seems no one working at this store speaks English even passably well enough to communicate with the customers. This Walmart store seems to bring out the absolute worst in people. Everyone seems stressed out and rude to include store staff, management and customers. Just try asking for help getting an item from a high shelf or finding it in the store - forget it! Walmart makes the DMV look like a picnic. The store's biggest problems seem to be the lack of available cashiers at the checkouts. It never fails - the lines of people at any time during the day at least 20 people deep trying to get through the checkout. Why? There have to be at least 30 checkout lanes in the store - why are they not staffed especially at the busiest times? Add to it the throngs of people flowing through the store, children running and screaming all about, the filth and general disorganization of the store. Isles are filled with merchandise and block the path of shoppers, merchandise is either missing from the shelves, damaged, scattered about or unavailable, and finally, the insane and combative atmosphere within the store makes Walmart at Kingstowne the most intolerably unpleasant shopping experience one could ever hope to avoid. I do understand Walmart is not a luxury department store, but it certainly doesn't have to be a three-ring circus either. I am told by my family that I am a snob because I refuse to shop at Walmart. I insist this is not the case; I simply wish to avoid this store and shop where I can have a better shopping experience without the ugliness and chaos that seems to run rampant at this store. I hate coming to this Walmart. I basically generally avoid it at all costs. It is like the United Nations of Shopping, and trying to get anything accomplished there is the equivalent of the real United Nations - meaning lots of nothing. There is nothing at this store that you can't get at the Target in Springfield Mall - save yourself the time, energy, and disgustingness and just go there. It is slightly more visually appealing, though, since they upgraded the store and remodeled it. But not enough to make me go "oh, I need to go there". If you still feel you need to go there and you do manage to get into the store after successfully navigating the parking lot around all the cars from DC and MD that are illegally double parked with people sitting in them, weaving down the parking lanes where Latin American/African/Middle Eastern families of 6+ hop out of their clown cars and spread themselves across the aisles so that cars can't drive, and then get past the sketchy people usually hanging out at the door, then you will walk inside to find chaos with florescent lighting. Avoid the restrooms at all costs since, well, I've seen port-a-potties with better cleanliness. If you're feeling like people watching while you're waiting in the constant "15 people deep-only 2 people working behind the register" returns desk, watch all the people shove their faces full of crap at the McDonald's - you can see your health care premiums soar with every french fry chowed down upon. Don't even think of going in the shitty nail salon that's there - they actually drilled a hole in my nail the one time I went and then argued with me when I told them I wasn't going to pay because hello, my fingernail has a hole in it and I'm bleeding (which I'm pretty sure is not the condition I walked in there with). If I have to go there, I make a quick beeline so I don't have to deal with the unwashed masses for too long. I try to limit my time there so I don't have to hear the people shriek at each other in Wolof/Farsi/Hindu/Spanish/Ebonics over top of their screaming kids who are running around all over place. This goes on even into the late hours of the night - it's actually like that at 10 PM. Put your damn kids in bed and stop having a friggin' family reunion at Walmart. JFC! The checkout lines take forever because most of them are closed. People then try to use the self checkout lines but because English is not their native language, they're F'ing them up so they take just as long as the real check out. I think instead of people going to jail, they should make them work at this Walmart. If that doesn't rehab them into going straight with their lives, I don't know what will. read more

If there is a word to describe the level of customer service at the Tire Lube Express section of this Walmart in Kingstowne, it would be: abysmal. Ah. Biz. Mull. I've been here several times over the years because the oil changes here are cheaper than anything else in the area. But, as the old adage goes, you get what you pay for--or didn't pay for--because they have absolutely very little interest in at least appearing to be interested in serving the customer. Rather, they look more like they can't wait for their day to be finished or for their next break to start. Not a lot of us actually like our jobs, guy. But that doesn't mean we don't at least act like a professional. Which they don't. None of them do. Today's incident is the straw that broke the camel's back. I came in to get their standard ($30) oil change and walked into their customer service area. I waited 15 minutes in their molasses slow line before I was told that oil changes were to be requested with a Leo and/or Justin who is walking around outside. (Let's start counting the time damage now.) So, I walk outside to look for them, eventually finding Justin. He then asks me to take my car, which I parked in the line for oil changes, and drive it closer to their garage area. Once upon a time, they would've done this for me. But whatever. He takes my info and then tells me, after I asked, of course, that they would be done in 45 minutes. I started to just browse the store. Which is the good thing about getting an oil change here, because you won't be too bored waiting. I browsed for about 45-50 minutes. (This brings the wait total to approximately 1 hr, at this point.) When I come back to the customer service area, there is another 15-20 minute line. I have no idea why this is the case, considering there are only two people in front of me. So, finally, I get to the cashier and give him my info. They tell me that they couldn't work on my car, because my check engine light was on and that they needed my signature. "How would I have known that you guys needed my signature so that you can start working on it?" "We call you over the loud speaker and on your phone." "You guys did neither." Silence. So, I repeat, "You guys didn't call me on the speaker or on my phone." Guy 1 looks down and shrugs. Guy 2 picks up a ringing phone and avoids me altogether. I grab my keys, give them my "I feel sorry for your mother" look and walk away. Total wait: approx. 1 hour and 30 wasted minutes of my life. read more

So much so that I actually opt to just visit the "wally world" in NC by my parent's place every couple of months to pick up items. I am new to the area and decided to stop in for a few things; however, I never plan to come back to this location. As I grabbed my basket and was about two feet away from the basket area, a walmart associate came to get my basket from me and asked to me to get one that she dried (it was drizzling outside only.) The one I grabbed was not wet nor dirty, but she refused to allow me to take the one I picked up. I proceeded to grab my items that I needed. I got into a line where there was a Hispanic woman purchasing items. The young woman clearly did not speak Spanish but she proceeded to swipe her card and enter her pin. The cashier asked to see the card so he could scan it and she did not understand. I assisted by translating, but asked him if the machine was not working. He said that it did work but that he was going to scan it. I told him to let her swipe her card and put the pin again. He did not like it. She swiped her card and I instructed her to enter the pin. The cashier came around and wanted to see her enter the pin. I asked him to go back to his station so he could enter it in private.He did not like that either since he uttered something under his breath. It worked perfectly and the transaction was completed. It was my turn and he proceeded to ask for my card. I told that if his machine worked that I preferred to swipe my card. I did and was about to enter my pin when he canceled the transaction. He asked to me hand him my card. I told him that I was not giving my card since the machine worked and he canceled the transaction. He actually said it was Walmart's policy. I told him that I was not using a credit card and he could call a manager. I told him that I found suspicious that he wanted to scan my card (using his verbiage). He asked me to swipe my card myself and enter the pin. I find this very suspicious almost as if he was attempting to swipe my card so he could use in a scam or commit fraud. read more

This place is a nightmare. A fucking zoo. I come from pretty humble beginnings. I worked at a Wal-Mart in Ohio when I was a teen. I tirelessly loaded mulch into people's trunks then took naps in the bathroom when I was hungover early Saturday mornings on the clock. Yes. I've always been used to the hustle, bustle, and the teaming masses that swarm at Wal-Mart. But this Wal-Mart takes the cake. First off, the parking lot. Or lack of one. Its always filled to the brim with swarming drones, driving around like angered hornets and they all seem to want to sting the ass of my truck. When I happen to miraculously find a spot and safely park, I have to trudge up and dodge even more vehicles on foot. Dicey stuff. I feel like I'm god damned Frogger. Once you step inside this hell hole, theres an immediate line longer than the soup lines of the Depression at the Customer Service Desk for returns. How many people buy shit they don't need? The traffic is even worse inside the store than outside and I've been sideswiped a number of times while pushing my buggy. Yes, I call shopping carts, buggies. I told you I'm from the Midwest. Anyways, I'm a firm believer that the traffic flow in a store should be that of the roadways. Main aisles have the right away. Right turns first, then left turns. You stop and look both ways before merging onto a main aisle from a side one. Apparently, these rules need not apply. Lines are always extremely long. You know how that can be. Upon exiting you receipt will be checked by an old man even if you just bought a Coke and a pack of gum. Inventory Control Nazis. Once you're past them you might run into Girl Scouts peddling their cookies to you like heroin hustlers. They scowl...SCOWL at you if you decline. I exit through the entry doors now. Yes, a grown man avoids these preteen girls and their pushy ways. I once thought I couldn't live without Wal-Mart and its falling prices. However, I'm over that. This place has ruined it forever. First, the negatives: 1) Parking is a nightmare even with their giant lot. The worst of Northern Virginia and Southern Maryland drivers congregate here. 2) The lines are always ridiculously long. People ignore the item limits for the express lines. 3) If you have to return anything, the return line is always 20 people deep. 4) There are always a ton of people here, no matter what time of day. 5) There is no such thing as a 5 minute trip here. The positives: 1) I haven't had any problems finding what I needed...eventually. 2) They sell more Dallas Cowboys apparel than Redskins apparel. Aside from Abdullah in the Electronics department going out of his way to assist us, our experience at this Walmart location was dismal. Maybe because we came the weekend before back to school, maybe it was all the screaming and crying kids, and maybe it was the guy at the register who thought it was totally ok to chat with his co-worker rather than to ring up the person in front of us while the line kept growing longer and longer. We came in from out of town and decided to help my mom fix some things around her condo (she lives near here, and I went to HS & college a town over) so we needed to make a stop at Walmart. Again our first stop was the electronics department for a splitter and a coax cable. A gentlemen by the name of Abdullah greeted us and asked if we needed help.. As soon as my husband told him the items we needed and what for, he understood exactly what we were talking about and showed us where each item was located. It is nice to know that they staffed that department with knowledgeable and helpful people. Another person rang us up right away in that department which was great. (I would give 5 stars to this department if I could) My mom was busy shopping in the food section so unfortunately we still had to wait in the main lines to pay for her items....that's when we came across the cashier who had at least 15 people waiting to be rung up yet decided it was more important to laugh and carry on with his co-worker. And I mean it was at least a 5 minute convo (which feels like forever when you are waiting in line). Not only were the lines long, the whole Walmart seemed chaotic and wild. People were literally running around and things were thrown all over. (Thus my reason for 2 stars). I would suggest more staff to service the influx of customers at this location and to keep everything more tidy. I'm surprised this Walmart has this type of service in the front as most Walmarts we've been to have provided much better and more efficient workers at the check-out lines. Of the other walmarts in the area I've been to (both locations off route 1), this is probably the better of the three. Whoa whoa whoa now, I'm talking "walmart standards." So Grandma J won a walmart gift card at bingo and mailed it to me for my birthday (gotta love grandma presents aka the stuff she doesn't want) so off I go to use it towards some necessities. Store was clean and stocked and I was able to get everything I needed plus some and for CHEAP! (24 items for $88 to be exact). It's still a walmart so some of the staff will drive you crazy (How does one get hired to no speaka english in America?) My cashier was some smelly guy who finished ringing up the guy ahead of me and walked away....WALKED AWAY! um HELLO?!) It's walmart, know the deal, employees are rumored to receive the not so greatest treatment and could care less so know what to expect and don't expect much. Just get what you need and get out! I don't do their photo shop, their pharmacy, their nail salon (Really Jennifer F.? I wouldn't think it was good either), etc. Just get "things"! Hit and Quit people! This Walmart has the rudest employees in CUSTOMER SERVICE I've ever met in my life. Like bluntly rude and loud and disrespectful to EVERYONE! I'm literally watching this happen and there's no manager in sight. And if there was one, she was probably the example to the rest of them which made it ok for them to not have one customer service bone in their body. Twice I waited in line and watched customers get in arguments with them because they said they close at eight but we've been standing in line for 20 minutes so that means now we don't get help? Yes, twice this happen to me. And I didn't need to fight this because other customers already were and I watched and listened to the employees treat them with no respect, disregard and ignore them until we all walked away. This is the worst Walmart I've been to and as close as it is to my house I'll never go here again. I'll spend the extra 10 minutes driving to support another location. This is easily the worst Wal-Mart that I have ever been to in my life. I'm not sure which makes it worse, the staff or the customers. It has earned itself the nickname "the zoo" from many of the people in the area. I disagree with that nickname though because its inaccurate, at a zoo the animals are caged, but here they're free and running wild through the store. There are tribes of wild children running through the isles. There are babies sitting in carts screaming while their parents ignore them. You're bound to have someone crash their cart into yours at least once each time you shop here. The products are never well stocked, there are a lot of missing products, so there is a very limited selection of everything (Example: If you go there for toothpaste, there will be toothpaste, BUT there may only be one flavor and brand to choose from because the other 30 are out of stock). I bought a car battery here and had it installed a few months ago, it took a little over 3 hours for installation! It was great though, it gave me the opportunity to walk around and people watch for hours. The lines are always long and don't bother trying to use self-checkout to save time, the people in those lines have about as many issues using self-checkout as the cashiers have using their registers. If you're checking out and there is an issue and the cashier needs a manager for some reason, you're in for a LONG wait. The cashiers turn on that flashing light to get the manager to come, but if you look around you will see that all of the other registers, including the self-checkout lanes, have their lights flashing too and there is one manager walking around like a zombie to each one. Its an amazing sight, the combination of the people there and the lights flashing always makes me feel like I'm at a crime scene. One of my favorite things to do here is watch the shoplifters in the self-checkout lanes, they only scan about 1 in every 3 items that they put into their cart, its so obvious to everyone except for the staff there of course. This place is a joke and that is why I recommend that everyone go check it out (just don't forget your gatt). Its like going to the circus or something. Avoid this walmart! This is such a headache to come to. The lines are always long no matter what time of day you come. They'll have maybe 3 or 4 cashiers on the weekend with HUGE lines. This place is also very unorganized and dirty. The staff barely knows anything and good luck on comunicating with them..they barely speak any english. They say that the ebola outbreak began in africa, but i believe patient zero came from this store. The original strain incubated in the arts and crafts section, taking on a glittery, purplish black hue of the most grotesque barney the dinosaur nightmare. The produce section contains only the freshest items; were it, 2012. The moment you step foot inside the walls of this cesspool, your skin will begin to rot and necros. It is truly the hotel california of big box stores; you can checkout any time, but you can never leave. read more

This review is the specific Kingstowne location, not Walmart in general, which some people are reviewing. I'd like to think this AWFUL location is not representative of the entire chain. First of all, it's not open 24 hours as another reviewer said. He had to have gotten his wonderful 1 am plunger at another location. The lines are always ridiculously long. On my last visit (which I vowed would be my last visit ever) the long lines were barely moving. There didn't seem to be any express checkout for people with only a few items open and I think they even removed the self checkout lines. I didn't even end up making my purchases because I didn't think it was worth waiting in line that long. The store is a disaster. Everything is disorganized. I attempted to get some plastic storage tubs. They didn't have matching lids to the tubs! They had tons of lids and tons of tubs, but very few that fit together. Don't even bother trying to call here on the phone. You might think you finally got lucky when someone answers the phone, but then they transfer you 5 times to someone who hangs up on you anyway. They did some sort of store reorganization where they added groceries recently. This means that in order to make room, they shoved all the aisles closer together so that now two carts can't pass each other in most of them. Especially since there are often displays or piles of boxes in the aisles anyway. Half the items don't have a price. Good luck finding an employee to help you check it. Consider yourself lucky if you can find a scanner in the store that works to check it yourself. The parking lot is always a mess. Whenever possible, I try to park near the garden section and use the door and checkout there. I feel like I'm slightly less likely to get run over in that area. This might not be the worst Walmart out there, but it's pretty bad. read more

I'm not a big Wal-Mart shopper, so I can't say how this compares with other branches. My expectations are low. They are the low end mass goods retailer. If you want a better experience, go to Target, we have plenty around. The store draws a crush of people looking for bargains. I get my car serviced here and I buy tires here because of the prices and convenience. read more

A bunch of incompetent fools I had to wait over an hour for a basic service and kept getting the run around because they send all their staff on lunch at the same time! Sheila was the most unhelpful rude staff member! I will rather drive to Richmond highway and give them a try, because this is a bunch of unhelpful people. read more

Such weird organized Walmart. They have McDonald's inside and nail salon; however they always look empty and no customer getting their nails done. They have good amount of merchandise on stock but it's just matter of navigating it. Their grocery section is pretty well and they have whole row of WINE! read more

Management at this location is horrible, they only care about themselves and will do anything to avoid the customer, I tried talking to one and he just looked down on me like I was trash. When you call they are never available and even the employees told me this manager tia is always bitching and I shouldn't call. Last time I tried talking to her she just hung up on me, when I called back she just never answered. read more

This has been my Walmart for almost 10 years. Very clean, nice employees, shelves always stock and organized. I have never had an issue here. Yes, lines get long at times, but that is a norm at any Walmart. I have moved from the area into Ft. Washington, and still use this one. DO NOT GO TO WALDORF OR CLINTON! read more

Do I have to say why this place is awful? Is it really necessary? All walmarts are awful for the same reasons. Understaffed and over crowded. Run in to get a few things end up waiting 30 minutes for check out. So many people that people touch you. I wish target was easier to get to. It gets two stars for being well maintained.
