1/2 a loaded bbq potato 12.31.22

7.29.25 I stopped in to pick up dinner for me and my hubby. The BBQ is always good but, $50.00 (b4 tip) for 2 people is a bit much for BBQ. (And I did not buy dessert this time) I know meat and everything has gone up in price ()but at some point we will have to set our own level on prices we are willing to pay. We will still eat here but not as often.

BBQ Chopped Brisket

As its name indicates, this BBQ joint is located in Waller County, just west of Houston. The family decided to stop in for lunch, because it was just off the highway and what Texan doesn't like barbecue? Very relaxed, open place that is reminiscent of old food stops from days past. Friendly and very efficient staff got our entire order completed pretty quickly. Definitely a great job on service. So the food... I got the chopped brisket sandwich with pickles and onion, pinto beans, potato salad and boudin balls. The brisket was tasty with tender chunks and bits of charred meat. The side of sauce, pickles and onion finished off a pretty decent sandwich. The pinto beans and salad were fairly disappointing- bland and not amazing in any respect. Against my better judgement, I got the boudin balls - thickly battered and fried way too hard. The sausage and rice mix inside was spicy and flavorless at the same time. How is that possible? I washed everything down with a Sonic hard sweet tea with lemon. Again.. meh. Overall, the bbq, which they're known for, is what made the experience. I'd revisit just for that.

I gave this place a high rating because of my first impression. I was running errands on my motorcycle when the weather turned bad. I saw this place on my way home from Brookshire. I have passed by there hundreds of times before. Cata cornered from Buc-ee's @ 290 & 362, there's 2 businesses here. Cedar Creek Saloon & Waller County BBQ, which is in a gas station convenience store. The bar is separate. It's a typical little local bar with friendly folks. I saw this poster promoting an upcoming event. I was rained in & after a couple beers I decided to check out the BBQ place next door. I saw the poster for the Waller Dog and was feeling adventurous, so I ordered mine with Jalapeños. I'm glad I stopped in! Probably not the healthiest lunch I could have had but it ended up being a good little diversion. I might just come back to watch the wrestling!

Went inside to order Togo, ordered a chopped brisket stuffed potato, with a side of pulled pork which is done by the weight not a set price. And it was delicious my husband and I split the potato. Service was quick and food is made in front of you so it's clean. Overall would come back really good bbq! Only complaint is the type of bacon bits used.

Brisket, sausage, beans and potato salad

Brisket was clearly reheated and old. Ribs had no smoke ring and not much flavor. Sausage was good as was pinto beans and potato salad. Cool old school Texas atmosphere but I won't be back $32 for 3 meat plate and fountain drink.

The food is amazing! My loaded baked potato was a piece of heaven! My husband's chopped beef sandwich was great! During a previous visit we tried the pulled pork and coleslaw - both winners. The reason for only 4 stars is the long, long, long wait in line to order at one of two windows, where it it very difficult to hear what they are saying. If that system was improved this place would be a 5.

NOT famous pit bbq! And definitely NOT the best bbq in Texas! Don't say I didn't warn you!

I've been driving past this bbq place for years traveling between Austin and Houston but never stopped here until today. I read some of the previous reviews and had hesitation about this place but I was hungry and figured it had to be better than Buccee's bbq. I was wrong. I don't even care for Buccee's bbq but it is better than this! First of all, why is a "FAMOUS PIT BBQ" that boasts "THE BEST BBQ IN TEXAS" using this fake hard imitation bacon on the potato instead of real bacon??? The sliced brisket was very flavorless and had more fat than actual meat! The whole potato was bland. The only thing that halfway helped was putting some bbq sauce on top so it could get some kind of flavor. Oh shoot...I can feel my stomach doing something after eating some of this potato. Save your $17 and either go across the street to Buccee's or find something else. ANYTHING ELSE but this!

Food was absolutely delicious you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Probably the best bbq I've had here in Texas hands down.

Went down the Apple Maps rabbit hole last night seeing what was available in Waller and came across…read morethis location first. Being a beer drinker seeing they had multiple taps and their menu seemed to favor, I made the 30 min drive from my house. First thing that I liked was there were actually two beers on the wall I've never had (still waiting to have 2nd one). When you've had 675+ different beers in the last year you're excited to try anything new. But the best part was the food. I had the "Liz" and it did not disappoint. That was two deep fried tenders pleasant bathed in buffalo sauce over a bed of m&c and drizzled with ranch. Sauce was perfectly spiced, cheese was perfectly made and not swimming. It's only 30 minutes from my house and I will return. Update 9/28/2027 Returned on this date to find out they're going through a menu revamp and the Liz has been removed from the menu. Now in their defense, the manager arranged to have the entree prepared as before, but I had to pay for tenders and two sides of mac n cheese separately. Apparently there was issues with streamlining the kitchen to get food out faster. So thank you for doing that for me, but please advise me through this app if and when you do put it back on the menu. Otherwise, I probably won't return. I have removed one star

This is a very local business and I think on the right day we might have had a better experience…read more Today was a bad day. When we arrived the place looked busy. My wife loves that so she was happy. When we sat down it took a while for us to get menus. The server a young girl apologized 3 times before we got to order. When we finally ordered about 10 minutes later I got the CFS and my wife got a burger and fries. We suddenly noticed a large group of 24 people came in together and a few other small groups at the same time. I thought oh no this girl can't handle who's here what is she going to do now. She told us she was the only server tonight. I got worried that we may never get our food. I have a thing about my food being Hot when I get it. I guess they must have called in some help. A new server delivered our food but we had no silverware. I tried my wife's fries while waiting and they were cold. Once I got the fork I tasted my mashed and they were ice cold. I had also asked for white gravy and she got me a new fresh mash that was hot. The CFS was good but not great. The batter was good but would not adhere to the steak. She pics below. My wife liked the burger. I hate to give negative reviews but so many things that should have been better.

First, the store is massive and absolutely packed with merchandise. Buc-ee's shirts, hats, mugs, souvenirs, home goods, snacks, candy, sauces, you can wander around for quite a while and still feel like you missed something. The merchandising is almost as entertaining as the stop itself. Then there's the food. The hot sandwich area was working overtime, with brisket sandwiches, pulled pork, sausage, breakfast options and plenty of grab-and-go choices. Everything moves quickly, the food is hot, and there are enough options that everyone can find something they want. Add in the jerky counter, bakery items, fudge, roasted nuts, fountain drinks and snacks, and you've basically got road-trip heaven. The place was busy, but it's organized, clean and surprisingly efficient considering the number of people coming through. Buc-ee's somehow turns a gas stop into part convenience store, part restaurant, part gift shop and part tourist attraction.

Wow I am blown away at the negative reviews here. I've been frequenting this place for awhile now…read moreand it has been freakin delicious and on point. For those of you that are saying it's overpriced, how about be a genius and download the app to get BOGO plates. Order online or on the app and walk out of there with enough food to feed a family of four. They've always given me generous portions. Trust me, I'm always hesitant when I open the box what the "Cue" is gonna be like. Brisket juicy and eat with my fingers like candy. Pork ribs are my favorite always enough meat on the bone. Their sausages are right on point. The only problem I ever had was one time the chicken was kinda dry and they forgot my burnt ends but replaced them with something else. I asked the lady and she said sometimes they are out of things so they will give a substitute but that only happened once. The two ladies who work back there are nice and I would not say they are slow. This is not fast food. The sides are always fresh, the pickles and onions are always fresh to munch on while eating. The burnt ends and the pork ribs are our family favorite. If you want good food, let them do it right. Order ahead and let them cook it, slice it, prepare it and pack it. Give them some time to make your meal. Don't expect to walk up in a gas station and order and want perfection 5 minutes later that's not how it works. Download the app and order through there and swing in there and pick it up that's how it works and you get the best cue. No photos because it's secret and can't believe I'm even telling you about this place. Don't you dare take my pork ribs sucka.
