If you all want some mouthwatering BBQ this is the place to go! I have never in my life had brisket that just melted in my mouth! The atmosphere is peaceful and the owners have the uttermost hospitable customer service.

This is my 3rd visit here and I have to tell you it is amazing. 1st visit ordered brisket and sausage easily one of the best BBQ meals I have had. 2nd visit I tried the ribs which were good but on the 3rd visit went back to the Brisket and Sausage absolutely top notch. The BBQ and Potato salad are excellent. It has a nice patio area where you can sit out and eat and there is a lady selling home made desert which I did not try but my friend did and he loved it. The portions are huge and the price is very competitive. If your in the area and your hungry try this place out you will not be disappointed I promise!

It wasn't terrible; the potato salad was the best part. The beans were more like chili beans instead of baked beans (which is what I was expecting). The chicken links had A LOT of flavor, and the beef slices not much flavor. The BBQ Sauce was delicious and unfortunately my sprite was flat.

Hours are limited - 11a-3p on Wednesday - Saturday so plan ahead because it's worth it. Fantastic BBQ! We got the brisket, ribs, and sausage and all of it was perfect but our favorite is the brisket! Super low prices too- large portion of meat plus potato salad, beans, bread, and drink for $10! Sides are fantastic too. The woman who waited on us was so friendly -like visiting family. Patio area is clean and cutely decorated to dine in. Oh- there was a lady on the patio selling desserts. We got the chocolate cake/brownie thing- it was the best dessert I've had in a long time! Do not skip the dessert! We will be back- often!

Sorry I couldn't wait to starte eating lol. This is a 2 meat special. This food is so fresh and delicious

This lil gem is the truth. They're very friendly and the food is soooo good. I'd come visit this place whenever I'm in the area

Also had the cabbage which was a little overcooked but very tasty. The cornbread was heavenly! And the peach cobbler and banana pudding were both delicious. Finding good soul food in a new city is a journey... and baby, I've been on one since moving to…read moreHouston. After 3+ years of searching for something that gives me that Atlanta-level comfort, I can finally say I've found a real contender in Mikki's Soul Food Cafe. This was my second visit, and I ordered the same thing both times--the meatloaf dinner over rice with green beans (and this time I added mac and cheese). That meatloaf? Listen... seasoned just right, tender, and covered in a rich gravy that leans slightly tomato-based without being overpowering. Poured over fluffy rice? Yeah... they knew exactly what they were doing. The first visit was a 10/10. The green beans were everything--well-seasoned, tender, with bacon and onions. It gave "somebody's grandma been cooking all morning." Now... this second visit? The green beans came in a little confused. I got more potatoes and bacon than actual beans. I'm talking hide-and-seek levels trying to find a green bean in there. Still flavorful, but the balance was off. And the mac and cheese? Not my ministry. It was very heavy--extra cheesy to the point where the texture and flavor just didn't land for me. I won't be ordering that again. Let's talk price real quick: $19.95 (2 sides) $23.95 (3 sides) At first, I paused. But once you see the portion size? You calm down real quick. These are generous plates, easily stretching into two meals. Now here's my biggest issue--and it matters: The to-go packaging needs help. That gravy on the meatloaf is delicious, but it's also very liquidy. When you order to-go (like I did for lunch), it spills out into the container and bag during transport. By the time I got back to work, my tray was covered in grease and gravy, and it made eating a whole situation. This could easily be fixed by putting the gravy in a separate, sealed container. Final Verdict: When Mikki's hits, it hits. This is some of the closest I've found to real Southern soul food in Houston. A little more consistency with sides and better to-go packaging would take them all the way over the top. Rating: 4.5 stars (9/10) 1/2 And yes--I'm coming back. Next time, I'm bringing my mom for Sunday dinner.

Every one was so polite, helpful, and very jovial. During the entire time I was there, whether it was short or long, there seem to always be a line. Thank goodness they have an exceptional system in place that ensures the lines move swiftly and efficiently. It may look a little chaotic but it is very well organized. You stand in line, order and pay first, and the you get a table. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get a table because the dinning room was packed but as soon as I finished ordering, a few tables cleared up. This is southern style breakfast at its best!!! The food came out quickly. I ordered the fried catfish dish that came with two eggs, a biscuit, and grits. The biscuit was delicious, making it ag great accompaniment to the dish. The fried catfish was very flavorful and the crispy batter clung to the fish perfectly, preventing it from falling apart. I enjoyed my meal a lot and would definitely order it again, despite feeling a bit heavy and bloated afterward. Great establishment. I highly recommend trying this place at least once. Note: There's hardly any parking in front of the entrance but there's more parking across the street by the building with the closed down catering company. Also, a little further down by the Obamas' mural, there's a parking lot dedicated just for customers of The Breakfast Klub.

We ended up not going because of the wait but I went back with a friend earlier today and it was REALLY good. Like insanely good. I got the Chicken and Gravy while my friend got the Chicken and Waffles and we both finished our plates cleanly. The service was slow, yes, but they were extremely nice and did have multiple prefaces regarding the wait time. The only I had food wise was that the candied sweet potatoes were a little too sweet for me (and trust me, I love myself some candied sweet potatoes) and I feel like the okra or another one of the sides would've been a better fit for me. The chicken I had was extremely tender and juicy, and the gravy had the perfect amount of sweet and salty where I just gobbled it down with everything. The vibe is nice and homey and overall this place was just great. It for sure isn't someplace you can rush through in 30 minutes, but that kinda adds to the experience that you get the minute you walk in.
