Walking Bean is my best cafe on the island. Cozy and clean cafe with excellent customer services. I tried their Spicy Mayo Tuna Sandwich. It's DELICIOUS. They make everything fresh. Worth the wait. I also tried their Dubai Chocolate Iced Latte. I was worried this drink might taste over sweetened as they used Dubai Chocolate. However, it came out PERFECTLY! The sweetness was just right to balance the coffee flavor. I will definitely order it again. As usual, egg waffle is always a MUST order item. The best in Hawaii. Don't wait, just go and try everything at Walking Bean Cafe.

Walking Bean Cafe is open from 700a till 400p on weekdays; 900a to 600p on weekends. It is situated on Campbell Avenue across from Zippys Kapahulu. Parking is shared with other businesses such as Guava Smoked...parking lot ia a hassle, if you've parked there, you know. iYKYK. Cafe is small, perhaps five tables. Beverage menu is extensive, they seem to specialize in matcha. They have a small food menu. I requested their Earth Coconut Iced Matcha Latte, which comes with blue spirulina, and coconut flakes. I got it with regular milk. It was good. They whisk their matcha in earthenware to order. The Earth Coconut Match Latte was colorful; it was reminiscent of Tulane's school colors...it may end up being an alternate helmet for their Green Wave college football team.

Still hands down my favorite little cafe. They just updated their food menu and some of their dessert items. I had the strawberry matcha chia seed pudding today and of course my favorite drink, fresh strawberry sparkling! Also of course still seeing the owners and their awesome barista still giving such friendly service! Which is why they have a lot of regulars come here. I love to just sit and chill here when it's not busy and just enjoy my drink and food item. I didn't get the bubble waffle today cuz I had the chia seed pudding and know that it was going to be filling. So you know what that means...I gotta come back again so I can get my bubble waffle fix!! If you still haven't tried this place, you definitely need to come and try! I still have so many items I haven't tried yet!!

Dubai Chocolate Strawberries (with ice cream on the side!)

Wow!!! The Dubai Chocolate Strawberries blew my socks off. They were out of macarons so they offered us ice cream which they covered with the sauce and phyllo dough (amazing!!) I would almost recommend doing that over getting a macaron. I also tried the honey yuzu matcha. It was okay, cashier said they source it from California. Yuzu flavor is coming from a marmalade that tastes suspiciously like the Costco yuzu marmalade which doesn't carry a strong yuzu flavor. Planning to go back and try something else. Workers are nice and accommodating and the interior is super cute. Not a lot of seating and can get busy on the weekends. Tiny lot in the back. Street parking recommended, usually there's spots in the back within a block.

Delicious desserts and drinks! I tried the strawberry shave ice, which was super refreshing. The banana pudding matcha latte was also great--the matcha wasn't overly sweet, and the banana pudding balanced it perfectly. Service was quick, and the staff were very friendly. The café is quite small, so finding a table during peak hours can be tricky. I'll definitely be back to try more items on the menu!

@fortunefoodfinds: "I've BEAN meaning to tell you, i L.O.V.E. you so MATCHA! A Banana Pudding Matcha Latte n' a Dubai Chocolate Matcha Latte from Walking Bean Cafe off of Kapahulu. All I gotta say is WOW, don't walk but run n' try out these drinks now!" Staff: super nice n' friendly Interior: cute, cozy, clean, limited amount of seating, modern Exterior: across Nanding's Bakery Wait time: 10 mins Parking: small lot in back with a few spaces or street Overall comments: it's been a couple months since my last visit so I was excited to see what was new on the menu. Immediately I went for the banana pudding matcha latte n' then for the Dubai chocolate matcha latte. Presentation was beautiful, n' more importantly both were extremely delicious! You could really taste the yummy, bold matcha, which I like. The banana pudding latte was a nice (not too sweet) balance n' it was topped with I believe biscoff crumbles. The Dubai chocolate latte had the crunchy kataifi n' finely chopped pistachios. Loved both drinks so much that I literally went back n' forth between drinking them when I was supposed to share with mah hubz!

What a lovely little cafe! The space is small but very cozy and inviting. The barista working at the counter was so nice and clearly embodied the Aloha spirit in her work. They offer coffee, lattes, smoothies, and small bites like Dubai chocolate cheesecake. I got the matcha ube latte and it was so creamy and smooth! Most importantly, it wasn't cloying or super sweet. The matcha has a quality taste to it unlike the cheap stuff at Starbucks. Keep in mind there are only 4 tables total so be aware if you plan on sitting down. The decor is minimal with a slight tropical rainforest vibe. As a visitor to the island, highly recommend stopping by Walking Bean if you're in the area!

Friends of mine know I'm just a matcha-obsessed girlie. Unnie, Li Y., being so thoughtful sought out new matcha spots for us to try while I'm back on the island. I'm a huge fan of Walking Bean Cafe now! We arrived at the cafe on a weekday in the mid-afternoon. We were the only customers so it was quiet. The shop is very quaint and clean. A few seats, making it a great spot to hang out with others. Ordering is a breeze with their menu posted by the register. You can order and pay and your drinks will be brought to you. The lovely owner was extremely kind and welcoming! It's a two-person team and they're doing a great job, juggling multiple things. To drink, I had the Mango Matcha Latte with Soy Milk. Unnie had the Strawberry Matcha Latte and my Dad got the Ube Matcha Latte. My matcha latte was delicious. The quality of the matcha was great, not overly milky. The mango was fresh and sweet. My Dad's ube was great and I loved the color and subtle taste of the ube. I'd love to try their other matcha drinks if I come back. Matcha lovers need to check out Walking Bean Cafe! It's a cute little spot with light bites, matcha drinks, and other caffeinated drinks! The shop is off Kapahulu Ave. across from Nanding's. They have a private parking lot in the back!

Lox bagel comes with truffle cream cheese

wandered in looking for coffee and "sit down breakfast". lattes are small and mild and tasty. If you like dark roast bitterness, this isn't it. Had the Açaí Supreme and it was a nice cold treat - also 16 oz is bigger than my stomach in the morning but A finished the last bit so the fruit granola açaí walnuts and pistachio goodness didn't go to waste. He finished his lox bagel with truffle cream cheese first and really liked it. Cute space. Mellow music (seemed like a kpop coffee house mix while we were there). super nice folks. located "behind" Kapahulu across from zippy's so street feels mellow too. they have oat, almond and soy milks. clean bathroom. also... there are small cute touches like climbers in the pipes. didn't have but their shave ice/dessert menu looked pretty formidable. may try to stop by again for a sugar and tea/coffee break when others want to share with me.

    Azuki matcha deeeelicious!
    Li Y.

Really lovely little coffee/tea/snack shop in the neighborhood of Kapahulu. Located in a block currently undergoing major business changes. Just opened three months ago. Saw that this shop rated high on Yelp and the photos looked even more promising. Prices appeared to be fair. Matcha drinks looked delicious. ...So of course I shot over the first chance I had which was this afternoon. Parking on the street and in the small lot in back was easy. Looked at all the tempting snacks of various fruit and chip seed puddings. Heard the next person order a toasted sandwich which sounded wonderful. But keeping my focus I inquired about the matcha drinks. Counter person said the ube matcha most creamy, less sweet. The strawberry matcha most popular. Ohh but the matcha-cano... nice and strong. Dazzled by the choices, I settled on the matcha with azuki, sub soy for regular milk. And so glad I did. It was deeeelicious! Not too sweet at all. The only sweetness coming from the azuki. Would definitely order again. But wait... next time ube or strawberry?! Too much goodness here! I will be back, maybe tomorrow. Hah!

Ube cheesecake & Strawberry Matcha Latte
    Danielle V.

Small little coffee shop in Kapahulu right under Guava Smoked. Parking is right around the corner, it's small and can get crowded because it shares with the other businesses in the building. You can also park on the street. When I went it wasn't busy at all and there are three or four tables for small parties. Customer service is quick and easy. Very straight forward. I ordered the strawberry matcha and the ube souffle cheesecake. It was super delicious! Definitely would go back again for it. The sweet strawberry jam tasted homemade and complimented the bitter matcha. The cheesecake was super fluffy. The pricing is a bit expensive, so thats the one downside... but it's expected with the location.

Walking Bean Cafe is such a cute hidden gem if you're into unique drinks and cozy vibes. They had two people working - one making drinks and the other in the back kitchen making food. I tried the Ube Mochi Matcha, and it did not disappoint--perfectly balanced with earthy matcha and a subtle sweetness from the ube. The mochi pieces added a fun, chewy texture that made it feel a little more special than your usual latte. The atmosphere is relaxed and aesthetic, great for a quick coffee stop or to sit and unwind. Definitely worth checking out if you're in Honolulu and want something a bit different from your usual order.

sunny side up shave ice and coconut latte
    Angel H.

The hubby purchased their signature coconut latte $5.70 and my six inch birthday cheesecake $27.50. The cheesecake has to be ordered in advance, so we had to come back to pick up the cake. The coconut latte was good, but I couldn't really taste the coconut flavoring. The cheesecake was outstanding. It was so creamy and just slightly dense. The cashier gave me a choice of cream to put in the center. She had matcha, strawberry or just plain cream. I went with the plain and it was perfect. There were a few pieces of strawberry and blueberries on it. She also adorned the cake with birthday decorations. It was boxed up nicely with a gold ribbon. I will be back to try some of their other drinks and get some shave ice. They're located in the same complex as Grave Smoked. They share the same parking lot in the back.

So I looked on Yelp and was able to find this location of Uluani's which, while close to Waikiki, is not in the chaos of Waikiki. In any case, for my shave ice on this day I went with an ulu and chose lilikoi and coconut as my two flavors. My father also went with an ulu and chose grape, lime, and coconut as his flavors. The ice here was shaved super thin and, as usual, I loved the flavors. The coconut at Uluani's is creamy with a nice coconut flavor while the lilikoi is both sharp and sweet, which makes for a great combo. My father also enjoyed his combination, which included flavors I had never tried from Uluani's before. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. As I have stated in other reviews before, I consider Uluani's to be the standard for shave ice and this visit only reinforced that.

Oh well Anyway the flavors were more sugary then expected but I figured they are making it to the taste of the younger generation then the older generation.
