Buyer Beware I purchased quartzite countertop from Walker Zanger in Port Chester NY a year and half ago. I went to buy quartz but was up sold on the quartzite on the promise that I can put hot things directly from the oven or stovetop on it with no concern. There was a major difference in price. I recently put a pot of soup on it and it cracked. When I called the store I was given a run around until finally I got to the general manager Luis Vivas who would take no responsibility at all for the failure. Look elsewhere for countertop stone. I'm doing a complete house renovation, so I'm looking for tiles and slabs for several rooms. I was not expecting to have a great experience here because the reception felt a little cold at Ann Sacks, so I was expecting something similar. I was very surprised to see how friendly and welcoming everyone was, starting with the greeting at the front desk. We were paired to work with Carrie Scott, and I feel really lucky that we ended up with her. Her creativity and vision is beyond what I have encountered with the folks I've worked with at other stores. The store has incredible selection, and it would be easy to blow the entire renovation budget on the most high end options they stock. However, Carrie has done an amazing job of helping me achieve the look I want while staying within my budget. She has been so professional and attentive to the point -- she even called me two weeks after our last appointment to share new information she had about a product I was interested in. I wasn't sure I would love Walker Zanger, but I was so impressed by both the tile selection (lots of interesting stuff you don't see elsewhere) and my experience working with Carrie that I will be sure to return for future projects. read more

While we really like what the tile looked like, this entire experience has been APPALLING working with them. The management seems not to care about their customers' experience, and while the reps are friendly, the mistakes are numerous. 1) The color lots were not consistent and the bullnose of the same color was SO different from the field tile that (after their rep came to observe and agree that the degree of difference was too extreme) our contractors had to rip them out and do it over. 2) We have been trying to talk with them for WEEKS about the process for them to pay for the work to redo the wrong colored bullnose and have wasted so much time calling, emailing and tracking the right person down. 3) Earlier, in a totally different frustration, they sent us the wrong size bullnose from what we requested. Promised to send the right ones out the next day. Didn't send them for THREE days, and delayed the work. There are many more things too -but in short, it takes forever to get to an answer. There have been so many mistakes and problems with quality control and communication - while the tiles LOOK lovely, I am really doubting I will want to go through this again for the next big phase of our renovation in our kitchen and bathroom. The problems are just too many, one after another. And it shouldn't take WEEKS to get the technical director to reply to us! read more

I also ordered different tile from them--just delivered--and the colors are quite a bit different from the sample. I am considering returning this, but just cannot go through this again. I am currently doing a renovation on my 1930s Spanish Mediterranean home, keeping the original style of the house in mind. Sheryl, our sales and design consultant at Walker Zanger, found the most beautiful handmade Spanish tiles in one of their lines which worked perfectly for my project. They are stunning ... deep, rich color, with subtle variation, both in hue and texture. (Walker Zanger's show room is quite a sight to behold, filled with samples of so many beautiful tiles and stone, it's almost overwhelming to imagine all of the possibilities.) As has often been the case with SO many things during Covid, there was a bit of an issue at the factory. However, Sheryl was there at every turn, resolving everything and making my experience with Walker Zanger very enjoyable. In fact, when I decided to add some additional tile to my fireplace, Sheryl spent over an hour with me in their warehouse individually picking out tiles from several boxes to make sure I had the perfect blend of color variation to work with my pre-existing tile. To say she went above and beyond is an understatement; and, she certainly knows her stuff. This is the only store I will ever buy tiles from ever again! Talk about class act customer service! They were amazing through the entire process but the best part of it all is that they warranty their tiles. I redid my entire pool and of course wanted the best tile possible which was a hand cut glass tile which was just south of $70 a square foot. Six months later I had an issue with the tile and there was a question about who was going to take responsibility (the manufacturer, the pool man or Walker Zanger) and guess who stepped up to the plate and paid to fix it! Yep Walker Zanger! You might be able to save a buck by going to a discount tile place (although in my case Walker Zanger had the best price) but in the long run I would advise against it because WZ stands behind their products 100%. I can't say enough good things about this company except if you want some piece of mind make sure you buy through Walker Zanger. read more

Having completed a remodel and lived with for a while I am now able to give honest reviews of some vendors. It was a pleasure to work with Walker Zanger for well-priced tile in their store on Melrose Avenue. However, although nice service at their stone yard, the stone they sold me is total crap. When the stone guy came to do to the work I was told I was sold "sugar" stone. That is white marble that is so crappy it will crumble like sugar during fabrication or later. I didn't buy this inexpensively so I'm pissed. I have now lived with it for 2+ years and sure enough it's starting to crumble. I am sure that I will need to replace it within 5 years. Not only will it require the expense of new stone for two full bathrooms, but the most expensive part can be fabrication of the new stone. I would not purchase stone from Walker Zanger ever again. I'm giving 2 stars for the Melrose staff is nice, but stone staff is clearly not to be trusted. read more
