What a gem! It felt like home walking in this Lumber store on Yelp. I was unhappy with what my contractor chose for a siding and went on the hunt. Well to my delight I found Valencia Lumber. It's a throw back to places similar to where I grew up on the east coast. They have a wonderful assortment of woods. Being a woodworker since childhood I was thrilled. Everyone who helped me was knowledgeable and helpful. I know my contractor will not forget all my personal due diligence I put into my project. Incredibly helpful, friendly, and nice. Patient with my endless questions. Good selection of sizes and very fair prices. A good group of folks who are running a good business. They'll do a cut so you can get your board in the car but heads up they don't have a panel saw so they cant do panel cuts. (A fact they are very upfront about so shouldn't really be an issue.) Only needed 1 thing in Hard Lumber and they had plenty of stock. Little Hidden Gem Really. Tons of different hard woods and exotic as well. Some glue and your needs for some of your projects. Everyone was super Friendly and very helpful! Even when i called to find out what i needed they went to check for me! Awesome It's kind of hidden but nice spot . Enjoy! read more

Went there recently to purchase some slab and a couple of board feet of exotic woods. I was very happy with the service and help and advice that I got from the staff there. They were very knowledgeable and friendly! Which is not to be taken for granted... Store is well organized and very accessible. They have an incredible selection with a wide variety of common and exotic species of wood. They also have a lot of accessories and other products at any Carpenter or DIY person can take advantage of, including adhesive's and hardware for cabinetry etc. They allowed me to put down only a deposit to hold onto materials that were not very common such as live edge slabs which allowed me to take the time to figure out what and how much I needed. I saved it for me and even allowed me to purchase it and wait as long as I need to come pick it up when I get a truck! Extremely helpful, great business, highly recommended! read more

I was told that they won't cut panels at all (not even 1 cut to help with fitting a 4x8 sheet in my SUV? Unsure why, all other competing (proper) lumber yards will make at least one cross cut or rip for you. Staff could be a little more helpful/professional versus the an ignorant approach I sensed after asking if they will cut a few sheets I was planning on purchasing (at least $700-800 worth of plywood). I'm sure this isn't a massive purchase for them, but a big purchase for me. Truthfully, as a diy type of woodworker, it stinks when the staff at a lumber yard talks to you like an idiot. They have a great selection of anything you could imagine and quality is top notch, but I'll stick with Anderson Plywood & House of Hardwood (highly recommend). As you can see from my profile, this is my only review. I don't complain EVER! And don't believe most of the postings on this app, but my experience was worth a written review for anyone thinking about going to this place. read more

The people they have working the counter and their sales person Richard are absolutely ignorant. I walked in to ask them where to pick up my order that I had paid for and special ordered and one of the people at the counter ignorantly yells at me " where is your mask!" There are many ways to be polite and achieve your goal but these people are beyond ignorant. I told them that I would simply step outside and give them a call and that all I needed was my order to be picked up. When I called, Richard the salesman kept telling me "just put your mask on and go inside" even after I had politely told him that I have a medical condition. He told me that he was just going to refund my money or I can just put the mask on. I then had to divulge my personal information which involved some very delicate childhood memories but it was the only way that he was going to be able to process my order. He then hung up and I had to call back and find out if the order was going to be taken out to my truck. Then the third round of nasty came out. The forklift driver sad since you don't have a mascon I'm leaving your order here on the ground and you're gonna have to load it into your truck yourself. I literally blew up at this point because all of these ignorant fools had had no idea what I have been going through the last year! I will admit that I had an impassioned conversation with him and told him that he at the very least needed to raise up the order to truck level so that I could push it & slide it in which just about boiled me over because it seemed like he just wanted to punish me. After going back-and-forth with him either as a manager is the owner came out and heard me out and said nothing. The fact that he coward down and said absolutely nothing with no apology or anything to explain the behavior that his personnel had without an ounce of compassion shows you the type of people in business that these people run. There are so many of these places in town, these people don't deserve your business. And shame on them for not even asking or even attempting to speak to another human being kindly. read more

I called to confirm a product was in stock and asked the cost. I was quoted $85 per gallon yet I was charged $97 when I purchased. I only went for the convenience because even at $85 it was $10 - $20 more than at other local retail (not online pricing) locations. It was my first time there so I don't know how their lumber prices are but I guess I'll never find out because I won't be shopping there again. read more

We have been using Valencia lumber as the main wood source for our custom wood shop for15 years. I usually wait till the last minute to buy whatever material I need and all I have to do is give Mark a call and he pulls the material for me within 45 minutes, about the time it takes me to drive there. The customer service is perfect ( everyone is super knoweldgable and professional ) and the quality of the material I get is amazing, this is so important since we build higher end products and ship all over the country. I'm not sure who does the buying here but they certainly take pride in the quality of the products they sell and I have confidence that a solid wood table top isn't going to crack 6 months later. I think this is my greatest fear building the way we do, problems once a product is in someones home become very expensive to fix. A great resource for our industry and do-it-yourselfers. read more

This place is amazing. I could probably stare at the exotic woods forever. The staff is extremely friendly and there to answer any questions. The prices are very reasonable, and the variety of woods is great. The only down side is that they don't provide cutting of plywood, therefore i'm unable to buy from them since I dont have a car to haul it in. Besides that, I'm definitely going back for all my wood project needs. read more

Valencia is the cream of the crop. Mark S. is a noob and should learn about lumber before leaving smart-ass poor reviews that reflect poorly on businesses. 4/4 surfaced lumber is never 1" thick. 13/16" is industry standard. You buy at Rockler and Woodcraft, so you are a Hobbyist. Valencia and similar suppliers are for Professionals, so go buy your 4" wide by 24" long piece of Cocobolo for $12.50 and STFU. And I guarantee you if you need to buy 50 bd ft. of 4/4 walnut, you'd pay 50 times more at Rockler if you could actually get it from them (which you couldn't). God gave you two ears and one mouth - use them in that ratio. Especially when you don't know sh*t. Bahahahaha. read more

A nice, clean, and well organized hardwood lumberyard with helpful staff as a bonus. I am just a beginner in woodworking, but you hear a lot of warnings about how bad and unfriendly hardwood lumber yards can be. So I am totally excited to have discovered what is apparently a one-of-a-kind place. They have a large selection of both domestic and exotic lumber and plywood. The prices seem reasonable. They are undoubtedly more of a wholesaler targeting cabinet makers and other professionals, but they were equally friendly and helpful to a newbie who was only buying $200 worth of lumber. This is a very nice, clean, and organized lumber yard. As far as selection of hardwoods and plywood goes, it is probably the same as at Far West Plywood or Phillips Plywood, which is pretty good. But I learned 2 days ago that if you're a contractor with a job that needs to be finished you just can't trust this place...specifically their prices. I recently switched to buying my soft and hard maple from this place because they matched ( even beat by few cents) the price I was paying somewhere else. I've bought 2-3 times in the past 2-3 months from them and everything was great. Until my recent trip when I had workers waiting at the residence to finish a job.... I get to the register to pay for everything and the guy quotes me almost double what I was expecting....i explain that I spoke to a manager my first time at the store and he's given me a specific price which I've been paying last 2-3 times I was there and all of this is clearly outlined in my company's invoices on his computer. He starts huffing and puffing , saying " I would be selling it for way too little"...acting like I'm taking money out of his pocket somehow....mind you this is just a clerk working the register. I ask him to go check with his manager...he goes away, comes back and gives me new price but still 48% higher than what I was expecting to pay. I felt myself get very angry and realized I needed to leave before I off. I probably could have just paid the difference especially because I needed the lumber right away but the level of idiocy and unprofessional behavior was such that I just walked out. I understand prices go up and down and if the price I've been getting charged was no longer adequate for them to make enough profit from my purchase I would understand! Just say " Our prices went up so we have to charge more so NEXT time you're here your price will be X".... And i probably would have come back. read more

Even though some prices can be higher than others, (I found I really overpaid for some walnut) I've also found some things they carry to be cheaper than others (like their Doug fir). I'm confident I'll find myself buying most of my materials here. read more

Today was first time here but I must say, I am impressed. First off, I was told by a salesman at very reputable lumber yard that I have been using for many years that quarter sawn red oak was almost non-existent in Southern CA. This seemed true--I was definitely having a hard time finding it...until I found Valencia Lumber. They had PLENTY of it in various thicknesses, widths and lengths. The same is true of all your favorite wood varieties and at decent prices. And not only that, the lumber is stacked in a way that is very organized and easy to sort through for that perfect selection. I'm a cabinet/furniture maker and this is essential. OH, AND they have tons of plywood to choose from. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well--I was helped by Enrique and he was GREAT. I'm definitely a fan of this lumber yard. read more
