The lady who helped me was very knowledgeable & great to work with. She gave me way too many options, but in the end I got what I wanted for cheaper than I expected. They have sent me a written quote for $630 based on clearly communicated stone size specifications. I went to see the stone to make sure the colour would work. I left with a sample. The next day I get a text that it will actually cost $1,000 more! Wait a minute... I was there and we discussed and agreed to everything. Why do you waste two hours of my time ?? We ordered flagstone from central years ago when we did our landscaping. We decided to go back to them as we are working on another in our yard. The original person that we spoke too was not very helpful and we finally met Martha! Boy oh boy she is sharp, professional, knowledgeable and just freaking amazing. She came up with a great plan and solutions for us truly helped artistically and financially. So I've been working toward repaving our back and front yards and working closely with this company to help determine which pavers would work. In the process, I have received pricing for the cost of pavers we're interested in and samples. This helped us determined the pavers we are going to have installed. So now that we have a contractor to do the work, I placed a call back to this store to get the current pricing for the pavers, base and polymeric sand we need and in the process the person assisting asks if I'm "just shopping around or if I'm serious." I thought this was an asinine question. What ever happen to customer service, patience and decency? It's not like this company has a pricing menu on their website for all of its products. It's not like they have all the special information about products on their website, such as the product is special order at this time or unavailable or cost extra for x,y,z. So I said to the person On the phone that I am serious about placing an order and gave him the backstory of my working with this company up to this point and told him if he does want to assist me, I can happily take my business elsewhere, which means I now have to shop for a new business to work with. None of the three people working inside the showroom wore masks! I was very uncomfortable and tried to remain at least 6 feet away from the woman helping me but she kept moving closer to me to show me samples. One woman has a sign taped to her desk stating she is exempt from the mask requirement due to a medical condition that she has the right not to disclose. Therefore, I will exercise my right to shop elsewhere. I haven't been faced with this level of total disregard for health and safety since the COVID lockdown began 11 months ago. I had ordered broken concrete for my project and Josh was super helpful.On delivery day, he sent out Joel who brought all the pallets on the big truck then masterfully operated his forklift to drop the pallets off right next to the work site. Because he was careful and thoughtful, he made sure that he did not run over any of the hard-to-see sprinklers. They have a lot of stone at a decent price. We ended up getting a better price at Sepulveda Building Materials. My issue is with the design center. They have several signs at the door stating that masks are mandatory and a posting from Eric Garcetti about masks. The woman inside however was not wearing a mask and refused to put one on when we asked her to. She told us she was not sick (not how covid transmission works) and then pointed to a fake sign saying she was exempt from mask-wearing. The DOJ has put out warnings that these signs are fake by the way. She told us if we didn't like it to get someone to help us. The other woman there was wearing a face shield (which does not prevent the spread of covid.) If safety is an issue for you shop elsewhere. FYI their other smaller location in Van Nuys follows safety protocols. read more

We went to CVBS this week to look for rock for our small landscape space that we are working on & we had a great experience. Cheryl was extremely helpful, great customer service! Prices are good, not cheap but not expensive as well. They have 2 stores back to back one is for rocks & the other on Canby St, is for all other landscape material that you might need like plastic borders etc. We definitely will come back again on our next project. read more

Two reasons for rating this so low: 1) Their definition of a "scoop" is significantly less than the typical standard. The scoops from this place are 9 cu ft (1/3 cu yard), whereas most scoops are 1/2 cu yard. This fact was not mentioned at all at the time I ordered and hence, the amount came up short of what I needed. I paid $100 (gravel + delivery) for about $20 worth of material. 2) They were so rude when I called them back to just recommend that they inform people that their scoops are small at the time the order is taken. The guy had such an attitude that I was even suggesting this. The way he reacted so quickly makes me think they've heard this complaint before and are very defensive about it. I learned 2 lessons - 1) always ask how big a "scoop" is and 2) never order from this place again. read more

If i could give them negative stars i would. I'm not sure where to even begin.... How about the fact they store all of your banking information as well as personal information and all their employees have access to it. Further finding the place was a night mare. It took me three times because the nearest location had been closed due to the new metro link. It would have been nice if they took down on internet searches. When i finally found the place it began smoothly and then just got out of hand. My CA drivers license had not arrived yet so i am running around with my passport as an ID. We had bought pea gravel previously from them almost a year to the date and of course they accepted a company check, no problem. This time when i gave them a new check from our new business account it was wrongfully denied for non sufficient funds. Given the fact that i was just at the bank the day before where the bank account balance had more than two hundred times the amount than the check i had written, it was simply impossible. The original person helping me didn't know how to use the check machine so therefore he gave me to another employee and went back to his desk... ok first red flag... when the check verifying system denied my check for insufficient funds....2 nd red flag....The employee that i had been pawned off on comes back to me and states that "oh we don"t have enough information on the company and since its a new bank account the information was not stored like the previous one.... Um excuse me??? ( After learning that, my boss was extremely alarmed at the fact they kept all of her banking information as well as her personal information. Can anyone say identity theft and bank fraud waiting to happen ???) 3rd red flag right there..... First off why not teach your employees how to work the check verifying machine And if it consistently gives you problems like the employee stated, why not go to one that is reliable?? Second, teach your employees how to take a check! If they need extra information then take it before you run the check!!! That is what most, id say 99% of retailers do.) So i request the manager. He then proceeds to treat me like a criminal because of my ID situation and because the check verifier said there was insufficient funds. I proceeded to get a hold of not only my boss but also the bank to verify funds and for both to verify that it was indeed a legitimate purchase. We also offered to send in a copy of the boss's DL and Citibank also offers to send verification. But nope non of this was acceptable. So after a semi heated conversation with my boss as well as our bank he says " No, this is a stolen check book" then throws the wrongfully denied check back at me and makes a cut off motion to his employee that had "tried" to help. After that the employee simply ignored me when i proceeded to ask one more question. I was there to get $300 dollars worth of pea gravel, had the company check book in hand, a government issued ID, my boss on the phone, and the bank walking in with a Coach purse, and a little dog. DO I REALLY LOOK LIKE THE TYPE TO STEAL A CHECKBOOK??? AND WHY THE HECK WOULD I WANT TO STEAL A CHECK BOOK AND BUY PEA GRAVEL?!?!?? I mean come on people get real.... This is by no means a repeatable establishment. read more

I am giving two stars only because they have favorable pricing on some stuff, have hard to find stuff, and have done a decent job of displaying it. Other than that, I am not a fan. The sales person was nothing short of annoyed with having to help me, both times I was there. The reason for the 2nd visit was to get a refund for returning some pallets (which they charge you more for than you get when you return them). Either time, I was the only customer in the store. The delivery driver, near as I can tell, backed into our vehicle. Unfortunately, we didn't notice it until after he left. After calling to complain, the dispatcher questioned the driver. The driver was less than truthful in saying that I was outside when he arrived for the delivery (and would have witnessed said accident). I didn't come outside until he had turned around, parked down the street, taken down his fork truck, and was in the process of dropping the first skid in the driveway. The rear tire on the fork truck that hangs off the back of the delivery truck lines up perfectly with the caved in spot on our vehicle (even the type of dirt on the tire that was left on the spot). I even sent pictures with a tape measure. What I got was "My driver said he didn't do it. I trust him. The only thing I can do is give our insurance company, if you chose to pursue this." What I will pursue, is another place to buy materials for the many projects around my house that I would have otherwise bought here (outdoor kitchen, fire pit with surrounding paver / block sitting area, paver path around the house, and a 75 foot paver driveway extension to the pavers we bought from Central Valley Builders Supply. read more

All I can say is that some people blame everyone else for their own problems..... I've only had one experience with purchasing from CVBS, but they were fine. The 3 or 4 guys I dealt with (got an estimate one day, then went back a few weeks later to buy) were helpful and friendly. The purchase amount was slightly smaller than the estimate (we got about 2 tons of flagstone, rock, River Rock and pebbles, etc.), which is always good. They delivered on time, the delivery guy was efficient and careful, and we're happy with them. We will use them again. read more

I've been waiting almost a week for them to pick up several pallets of flagstone that were damaged when it first was brought to my house. They have said (3 times) they will pick it up immediately, but it's still in my driveway. If they don't come get it soon, I may be forced to sell it on craigslist or give it away.
