We hired this team for a major structural renovation--adding a loft in our high-ceiling living room, building a wet bar underneath it, and replacing our kitchen's back door and window with a beautiful bifold door. (Note: The furniture bar cabinets and library were added later on and were not part of this contractor's project). From start to finish, the entire team was extremely professional, dedicated, and highly skilled. On the very first day we met, Nir helped design a 3D view of the project that perfectly captured exactly what we had envisioned. Throughout the build, we had a weekly walkthrough with Nir to check if we had any questions or concerns, which kept communication incredibly clear. Elba was also an excellent project coordinator who was always available to answer our questions and keep everything on track daily. The construction crew themselves were clearly very experienced and knowledgeable; they followed our approved plans meticulously and were happy to accommodate extra requests along the way. You can truly gauge the quality of their work by the fact that every single city inspector visit passed on the first try--nothing ever had to be rescheduled or redone because everything was built perfectly to plan. Additionally, all of the finishes--from the drywalling to the trim work and paint--were done with high-quality materials and top-tier craftsmanship. Overall, it was a great experience, and we highly recommend them! read more

Garnet: This is the second renovation I have done with Preferred Builders and I am so very happy! I was first referred to Preferred Builders by my tax preparer, Happily, my first repair/remodel turned out wonderfully so I immediately started a remodel on my own home. Scope of work: remove all the carpeting in the house and install laminate plank flooring in those areas. The travertine flooring in the entry, kitchen and hallway had large craters which collected dirt and water residue after washing. I had the floor steamed, the craters filled and the whole floor resealed. I had a gasline installed in the kitchen and a new gas oven installed. I also had a complete bathroom remodel which included removing a huge jacuzzi tub and installing an elegant and safe walk in shower. For the bathroom Nir listened to my concerns and needs and then gave me two 3-D renderings of my options. Elba was fabulous and fast with permits, a purchase list and provided weekly job schedules and updates. I have now completed this remodel and I can't be happier. My Preferred Builders team was pure gold! I highly recommend Nir, Elba and Orel, the Foreman. Orel was caring and his experience was invaluable, Roman, (drywall, moldings, paint, flooring) Carlo (beautiful tile work) and Abnir were all professional, caring and kind. My remodel was reasonable and fast. I definitely recommend Preferred and I already have. read more

PHB did a great job remodeling our home 6 years ago. And when I called for help with one of our kitchen fixtures this week, the owner didn't waste a beat and sent someone over and fixed it. And didn't even charge us. That's great customer service! read more

Sept. 2025 We ask Nir and Elba from Preferred Home Builders to come back to our home to help us remodel a bathroom. Nir sat down with us and gave us plenty of ideas on what was possible with the bathroom. We made a decision and started the project in Oct. 2025. Nir and Elba has worked with us every step of the way. We had some hiccups with inspection delayed and some of the details were not to expectations. However, any issue we brought up to Elba and Nir was quickly addressed, they gave us options and worked with us to resolve the issues. There was very no push back from them and they really just wanted to make sure we were happy with everything. I cannot THANK them enough for their customer service and help with the entire process. We appreciate Preferred Home Builders (Elba and Nir) high level of service and product delivery. read more

This is the third time that we have used Preferred home builders. First the master bathroom, then our second bathroom and finally in May 26 completing a brand new kitchen.! It's been great working with them with the consistency on all of our project projects. Preferred did an excellent job each time and we couldn't be more happier with how our kitchen turned out! Eli listened to our ideas and vision for a modern European kitchen. He and his team worked with our Cabinet designer and installer to completely renovate our old rundown kitchen. Elba was our project office manager and kept the project running on time and smoothly! Also thanks to Hyke and Emil our onsite Forman and team. I highly recommend Preferred Home builders for their professionalism and excellent work! read more

My entire home burned down this year in the LA Eaton Fire. I am in northern Pasadena. I found Dean at Preferred Home Builders through Yelp. I interviewed and got quotes from about 6 different companies. Dean was without a doubt the most knowledgeable & understanding, and just happened to have the best price. He showed up with a CAD model of my house before we ever spoke in person. The process, which has had its many ups and down no fault due to Preferred Home Builders, has been smoother than anyone else I know that was effected by fires. He has been a great communicator and friend, and now I can actually see my new home being built quickly and with high quality. I can't say enough. Choose this company. They simply care, a lot, and it shows! read more

After an unexpected slab leak destroyed our kitchen cabinets, we decided to turn a frustrating situation into an opportunity to finally build our dream kitchen. We spoke with a few contractors, but Preferred Home Builders stood out immediately with their promise to focus on the details that most others overlook--and they absolutely delivered. While there were a few hiccups early on with the demo crew, the team quickly stepped up and exceeded our expectations. What really set them apart was their commitment to the project from beginning to end. Unlike some contractors who disappear after the sale, Tamir, Rene, Talia, and their incredible crews were consistently present, checking in regularly and making sure everything was progressing smoothly. We received weekly schedules (and they stuck to them!), and they were always open to feedback. As very detail-oriented customers, we appreciated how seriously they took our concerns and how willing they were to make adjustments until things were just right. Now, a few months later, we're living in a kitchen that truly feels like it was custom-built for us--and it was. We couldn't be happier with the results or the experience. If you're looking for a team that combines craftsmanship, communication, and care, Preferred Home Builders is the one to trust. read more

Preferred Home Builders did an awesome job on renovating three bathrooms in my house in 2023 and fixing a leak in our ceiling. I kept delaying on writing this review but finally decided to take some time to write it! PHB completed the entire renovation in approximately 2 months. They were professional from start to finish and their office and Benji were great at communicating and providing a schedule of when things were to be completed. The difficult part was that I wasn't working with an interior designer so I had to design, find, and purchase the things that I wanted to put into the bathrooms but everything else, PHB handled. They sent Kevin's team for the construction and manual work and all of his guys that showed up were efficient and punctual every day. Thanks for making our bathrooms look gorgeous! read more

This is our second project with Preferred Home Builders and once again they have exceeding our expectations. This time they are working on our backyard remodel, and the experience has been just as seamless as our first project. Working with Ben and Daniel, our outdoor foreman, has made the entire process smooth and stress free. Both are honest, easy to work with, and incredibly knowledgeable. I had no idea what direction to take with the design. I only knew it was time for an upgrade. Ben and Daniel helped create a beautiful plan that transformed our yard into an outdoor living and entertaining space we will enjoy for many years. One of the things I appreciate most about Ben is his respect for my budget. I can tell him what I am comfortable spending and he works within that number while still delivering beautiful results. He never tries to upsell me or push me to spend more than I can afford. His honesty and expertise are truly rare. Just like our previous remodel, the crew shows up every day and stays on schedule. Preferred Home Builders continues to deliver exceptional craftsmanship and outstanding service. I absolutely recommend them for any home project, inside or out. read more

We've been working with Preferred Home Builders on a major remodel of our kitchen, pantry, dining room, built-in cabinets, and our daughter's bathroom. From start to (almost) finish, the experience has been fantastic. Our main contact has been Dean, and he's been excellent to work with -- easy to communicate with, always prompt, and genuinely cares about the outcome. What I appreciate most is that Dean doesn't bring problems, he brings solutions. He's thoughtful about suggesting options that make the most sense for our home, including redesigning the kitchen layout and moving appliances to make the space much more functional. The timeline has also been impressive. Every other company we spoke with quoted 10-12 weeks for a project of this size. Dean's team is wrapping up in about 6-7 weeks, and they've kept things organized the entire way. Preferred has project managers in the office who send out weekly schedules so we always know exactly what's happening each day. Workers and subs alike show up on time, are respectful of our home, and the quality of their craftsmanship shows. Preferred isn't the cheapest and isn't the most expensive, but they are by far the easiest to work with. That peace of mind alone is worth it. The project is nearly complete and we couldn't be happier with how it's coming together. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Dean and Preferred Home Builders to family and friends with confidence. read more

We were initially referred to Preferred Home Builders by our neighbors, who had used them for several bathroom remodels. Our first project was a time-sensitive installation of an outdoor staircase railing that we needed to complete within one month to maintain our home insurance policy. Ben from the PHB team helped us design an option that matched existing features on our home, could be completed within the month, and was within our "as cheap as possible" guideline because we had gone many years without a railing and didn't really want one. PHB completed the project on time and on budget, and our home insurance vendor maintained our coverage. A year or so later, we were finally ready to remodel our primary bathroom, so we contacted the PHB team. Ben helped map out the design (we kept all of the main fixtures in the same general locations). We set a date to start the work about 2 months later. From there, we received a detailed and color-coded list of all the purchases we needed to make (without that, we would have been completely lost) and started procuring tile, vanity/sink, toilet, faucets, medicine cabinets, and more. Our Project Manager(s) and Ben helped answer all of our questions along the way (we ended up working with three different PMs due to unexpected and planned outages). They were responsive, professional, and quick to address any bumps in the road. When a window replacement was delayed a couple of weeks, the PHB team figured out how to keep work moving along. All in, the renovation lasted about 6-7 weeks, from demo to final touch-ups, including an unplanned subfloor replacement that was discovered after the demo. We're so delighted by the final result. It's more than a bathroom, it's a retreat. Highly recommend Preferred Home Builders to anyone seeking a seamless renovation experience. read more

This is solely based on my initial conversation with the owner, Tony. He was very friendly and informative. Generously offered free designs even before I signed anything. I was requesting quotes on an ADU conversion but had many questions and variables. Tony answered all and offered additional information I hadn't thought to ask. He was very helpful and knowledgeable and hopefully his team is as well, if I do decide to hire them. That will be for a later review. read more

Working with Preferred Home Builders has been a phenomenal experience during the course of our condo remodel. Dean has been an exceptional help in guiding our hand in design decisions, quick to respond to questions, and ensuring everything comes together smoothly to maximize our condo's appeal and resale value. Justice as our project manager has been outstanding in keeping the project on task, serving as the fast and effective liason between all the crews and vendors, taking the incidentals and stress off our plate, and moving the project forward to finish below the initial projected timeline. We can't wait to see the final product when the remodel is complete, and look forward to working with PHB again! read more

Requested more info through Yelp. Got a call from someone who said the owner of the company "Tom" could get on the line and help me out. Was trying to build me a house instead of the 120 square foot office I wanted. They only want to deal with big money projects. Something tells me there is a lot of people trying to close deals posing as "Tom". Response to their comment, I informed him structures less than 120 sq ft don't require permits and you said you don't know how to do that. Wasn't willing to do any research read more

Very well organized, courteous and professional contractors. We did an ADU remodel and Preferred Home Builders was referred to us by a friend. They did a full mock up of the project before it started so we would know exactly what to expect. Overall great value for the work, and spectacular organization, so we didn't have to track and worry about everything ourselves. We worked with Nir and Elba, who were great. We turned our garage into an ADU and were looking for a contractor who could really guide us through the process, especially since this was our first time doing any kind of renovation. Honestly, we put it off for a while because it felt overwhelming. We got a few estimates, but Preferred Home Builders stood out right away because of their great customer service. Eli sat down with us, listened to what we wanted, showed us a 3D design of the project, and offered really helpful ideas we hadn't thought of. It was clear he knew what he was doing, and it made us feel a lot more confident moving forward. Elba was our project manager and truly went above and beyond. She kept things organized, stayed on top of the schedule, and was always available to answer our questions or talk through decisions. Eli, Elba, Wilmer, and the whole crew were friendly, respectful, and easy to work with. What went well... EVERYTHING says nobody while dealing with home renovations. Well, I can honestly say that EVERYTHING did go well with PHB!!! Dean and team took great care of our renovation. They basically gutted our entire upstairs (kitchen, bathroom, dining room and floors, along with installing floors downstairs) and rebuilt it in 8 WEEKS! They said it would take 10 1/2 weeks and completed 90% of it in 8 weeks, with small, minor odds and ends left in the final weeks. They are extremely personable, yet professional. They provided us with a calendar every Friday for the work that would be completed the following week. We paid weekly ONLY for the tasks completed. Our experience with them was AMAZING!!! I will, without a doubt, turn to PHB for any and all future projects, you should too! read more

I couldn't praise Ben Levi from Preferred Home builder enough. He is the most professional, diligent, knowledgeable, articulate, and friendly representative a company could have. From the beginning, he guided us through the process of restructuring our home after significant water damage. He drew 3D images until we were satisfied and offered many helpful suggestions. He was also very quick responsive to all of our questions. Unfortunately, due to some personal reasons, we cannot use this company at this moment. However, we would highly recommend Ben and his team to anyone considering a remodeling project. read more

Preferred Home Builders is a cut above the rest. We were a bit apprehensive when we finally decided to remodel our master bathroom. We had heard horror stories from friends and neighbors about the projects going way over budget and taking twice as long as the contractor estimated. This project involved removing and constructing walls, as well as relocating all electrical and plumbing fixtures. We interviewed four different contractors and PHB clearly stood out. The other contractors asked questions, took a few measurements and listened to our ideas. They told us that they would give us a bid in a few days. PHB's salesman and designer (Nir Cohen) spent a lot more time with us and then showed us a 3-D rendering of his design based on our ideas. We were very impressed. When it came to the bids, only PHB gave us a detailed estimate of all of the costs, whereas the other contractors just gave us a ballpark quote without any specifics. As to the actual project, we were told it would take 4-6 weeks. The final inspection occurred in four weeks and the final touch ups in five weeks. The cost also came within the budget. From what we have heard, this is unusual in the construction business as well. The team of Nir, project manager Elba Torres, and foreman Jimmy was exceptional. Nir made a detailed design with specifics of the project and shared that with the team. Elba was in near daily communication with us and responded quickly to all of our questions via text, even after hours. She also provided us with a weekly schedule of what to expect so we knew what work would be done each day and when the inspections would occur. The workers were very polite and kept the areas clean, covering floors and furniture and removing trash. Even after a very dusty demolition phase, the construction areas were well taken care of. The one critique we had was that even though there was a detailed design posted in the bathroom, some of the workers did not pay close attention to it and made some mistakes (e.g., plumbing put in the wrong place, framing for the wrong kind of door). Fortunately, we noticed the errors and they were quickly remedied before much other work progressed. Overall, we had a great experience with Preferred Home Builders and have already recommended them to others. Thank you PHB for a great remodeling experience! We give them a 9.5 out of 10. read more

My husband and I received several quotes for a full bathroom remodel and a new roof. We went with Preferred Home Builders because we loved Renes attention to detail and professionalism. Choosing a contractor for a major project can be intimidating, but our experience with Tamir and his crew has been so much easier than I imagined. From our very first meeting, Tamir's warmth and professionalism put us at ease. He took the time to explain the entire ADU process in a way that was clear and easy to understand, never once making us feel overwhelmed or talked down to, which I've experienced with other contractors. I went with Preferred Home Builders because they had just completed a project for my best friend. Her recommendation was enough to finally get us moving on a project we've long dreamed of. What truly sets him apart is his commitment to communication and client satisfaction. Every step of the way, the process was clearly laid out, and he consistently made it known that his main goal was to make us happy. Even when we requested numerous changes throughout the build, he and his team handled each one with a positive attitude and a focus on getting the job done right. We're so excited to see the finished ADU, but the journey itself has been seamless. His project manager, Talia, and crew have been just as incredible to work with--organized, skilled, and always professional. I especially love the weekly schedule that Talia sends so I know what to expect each week. Beware of bait-and-switch with lowball offer and then increasing the cost. I was quoted $167k for an ADU of a garage conversion with additional square footage after multiple back-and-forth alignment on scope and requirements with a sales person. Then owner walks the property before signing the contract and instantly increases the cost to $180k-185k giving a sales spiel of the same scope as the original cost saying how much is involved like I wasn't aware of it and included in the scope. Their reasoning for the increase? They didn't realize it needed a beam for vaulted ceilings!! The plan didn't change, just they didn't see this yet they seen every other detail. Seems super fishy. They will tell you their reputation is most important, be super nice, they have a clean license, and then pull something like this. After not proceeding, they gave my information to an independent contractor trying to get my business. I never consented to this. Who does that? No other company I've ever been in contact with has done this. Kind of ironic because the sales person warned me about other contractors doing this yet the reason I didn't go with them is because THEY did it. If they will do this before the project, they'll likely come up with other excuses during the project. read more

We had a few contractors come out to give us a quote on a full renovation for one bathroom and a shower/tub combo for another in a house my wife and I had just purchased. Preferred Home Builders was the last of the bunch, but by far the most thorough. We decided to hire them based off their stellar reviews and with how well our meeting went. He was professional the entire way through. When I let him know we decided to go with another contractor because of the other having slight edge due to referral, he wanted to see if there was anything he could do, but understood the unfair advantage of a referral and wished us the best. Do yourself a favor and hire Preferred for your home reno project. Stellar work done across a full kitchen and bathroom gut, an exterior resurfacing and front porch/roof overhand build-out. Dean was a great partner, from initial design consultancy to regular site check-ins to ensure smooth workflow and addressing surprises and ideas as project progressed; a good sounding board to ensure any of your ideas work and are optimized in execution, and proposing better alternatives you might not have even thought of. Alina's front office support kept all the project components running on schedule, helping adjust as personal demands needed and providing constant timely updates and calendars to keep us in the know on what to expect. Can't say enough about the on-site crew who made it all happen: Hayk, Emile, Davey, so many people who arrived on time, worked diligently all day to ensure work was top-notch, and went above and beyond to not just get it "right" but to get it "great"; as a micro-managing stickler for details, couldn't have felt in better hands with nothing to worry about.
