We really wanted to love our stay because the property and setting are beautiful. Unfortunately,…read morethe experience didn't come close to justifying the $600+ per night price tag. The biggest issues: * The rooms are not well insulated. - We could clearly hear normal conversations and footsteps from the room above us. The guests weren't being loud or inconsiderate. The building simply doesn't block sound well. We were woken up multiple times during the night and again early in the morning by people coming home or leaving. * The room felt run down and poorly maintained - There was mildew or mold all on the lower half of the living room curtains, dirt built up in the window sills, cobwebs around the ceiling and skylights, and obvious damage from an old skylight leak with warped, peeling paint that had never been properly repaired. * Missed simple towel requests - Our DELUX KING room came with only TWO bath towels and two hand towels. We politely asked for a few extra towels the first morning there. When we came back that afternoon, the towels had been replaced, but there were still only two bath towels and two hand towels, once again:( we had to walk down to the front desk building and ask for 2 more towels to bring back so we could both shower. * The pillows were dirty and smelled strongly of mildew - They had that unmistakable damp, musty smell like they'd been left wet for a long time. Since we arrived late the first night, we waited and asked the front desk the next AM if they could swap them out. Instead, they simply changed the pillowcases and left the same pillows. We ended up grabbing blankets from our car to wrap around them so we didn't have to smell them while we slept. That should never happen at any price point. It's just baseline to have clean bedding. * Grounds maintenance was poorly timed - On our first afternoon, the grounds crew was mowing with a ride-on mower that wasn't collecting the grass. They drove right up against our deck, covering the patio and lounge chairs with grass and dust. We had the sliding door open, so the debris blew straight into our room. We mentioned it to the front desk on our way out and asked if someone could sweep off the deck. They seemed surprised the mowing was happening on a Friday, which is one of the biggest check-in days. * We also woke up to pressure washing - Early Friday morning, we were greeted by the sound of the building next to ours being pressure washed. It seems like the kind of maintenance that could easily be scheduled during the middle of the week instead of during a busy check-in day. * Sub par restaurant experience - We had dinner at the restaurant our first night with a 6:45 reservation. We were seated on time, but no one came by to even take a drink order for about 20 minutes. We were told they were understaffed. Our food order wasn't taken until around 7:45, about an hour after we had been seated. When we finished dinner, we were immediately offered the check. We asked if there was dessert, and our server said, "Yes, it just hasn't been popular tonight." Our bill was around $250, so it was pretty clear we had come to enjoy a nice dinner, not just grab a quick bite. It felt like a missed opportunity to simply ask if we'd like to see the dessert menu or enjoy another course before ending the meal. I did appreciate seeing the GM helping bus tables during a busy service. That said, I was surprised to see him doing it in flip-flops, which didn't feel appropriate in a restaurant. I work in hospitality, so I understand that staffing challenges happen. But most of what we experienced didn't feel like a staffing issue. It felt like a lack of attention to maintenance, housekeeping, scheduling, and overall operations. The property has so much potential because the location is fantastic. Unfortunately, the guest experience simply doesn't match the price. With better operational planning and more attention to the condition of the rooms, this could be a wonderful place to stay. As it stands today, I don't think the value is here.

The family history here is compelling and part of why we chose to stay here- it is a privilege to be part of the Straus family's world, and to see the land that Mrs. Straus fought to preserve. The home is comfortable and lends itself to so many great memories- we enjoy conversations in every nook and love retreating to our rooms for much needed rest. The views around the property are stunning. One of my stays was rainy and that was equally delicious - this natural invitation to hunker down and read and be present. Michael is a wonderful person and host and has always shown us such kindness and openness. It is great working with him to set up the place prior to our arrival, from extra requests to making a fire pit for s'mores. This place holds a special place in my heart and I would come back more often if I could afford to - it's a great treat. You will love it.

They had our hearts within minutes of meeting them, and we quickly learned that their warmth was matched with deep event planning expertise, lightning fast responses to all manner of inquiries, and a general willingness to do absolutely everything within their power to make our wedding seamless. We can't say enough positive things about Vivien and Michael. We had heard planning a wedding would be stressful, but largely thanks to Vivien and Michael, we honestly never felt stressed. They regularly welcomed us to the ranch ahead of our wedding, helping us build a special bond to the land and to their family. They worked so effectively as a team, helping us find lodging, answering questions on behalf of our other vendors, thoughtfully navigating asks related to honoring recently passed family members, and so much more. During the wedding weekend, Michael bent over backwards to make sure everything ran smoothly, always beaming with a huge smile. His soft serve ice cream was such a big hit! It was always such a relief to see Michael, because we knew he was fixing something we didn't have to worry about, or making something work better, or just thinking 10 steps ahead to make a future moment run smoothly. He is exactly who you want at your wedding!! We had the wedding of our dreams and we can't imagine a better place or better hosts for this special moment in our lives. We plan to visit Straus Home Ranch regularly and will loudly sing the praises of Michael and Vivien everywhere we go, because we're convinced there is no better place on the planet to host a wedding.

She has been such a great mentor to my daughter as many of the leadership lessons with horses are so very applicable for a young girl's life lessons. For a young girl to have the confidence to lead these horses - it's just so amazing to witness. Recently we decided to take a staycation at her lovely home and rented out a couple of rooms for us for the weekend. Karin was such an amazing hostess from the very beginning when we got there, to the lavish exit from her property, as she had both her dogs positioned on either side of the gate at the end of her driveway as a send off. We stayed in a beautiful room with incredible views of the Nicasio reservoir. This is a must stay place for any photographer, bird lover, horse lover. It felt like we were completely in a different country, when we were only a 20 minute drive to our home. Karin made us an amazing breakfast each morning, while overlooking the reservoir, watching pelicans, falcons, and yes...bald eagles flying overhead! How incredible! Her house has several rooms to rent, and she also has a treehouse, which my daughter stayed in with her friend. They had a blast. A great skylight above the bed to stargaze. One night we enjoyed dinner at her outdoor 'cantina'. During the day, dipping our toes in the beautiful pool. The kids enjoyed chasing the little lizards that basked in the sun. We brought our dog who had probably the most fun of us all. Finally, a place where a dog can actually be a dog! Did I mention Karin is a fabulous dog trainer as well? I work for a nonprofit and approached Ann about hosting an event for a group of top fundraisers. She was such a delight to work with, we toured the venue in the winter, and Ann met us with a book of pictures to show us exactly what the layout would look like when the tent was in place and everything was in bloom! Ann also helped send over all kinds of information needed for booking vendors and coordinating with the venue. She outlined everything we would need to know leading up to the event, and made sure to check in that we had everything we needed. Since we were traveling in from Texas, she even offered local recommendations for us to use throughout our entire weekend. And that's all before the event.. Day of was nothing less than PERFECTION. Ann took care of every detail, down to including flowers coordinated to our color scheme in the rest rooms! We had several attendees that need additional help with mobility challenges, and Ann's team was always ready to help transport them to and from the parking lot or anywhere needed! Dan helped coordinate our shuttles and made sure our arrival and departure we as easy as possible. Their entire staff was professional, kind and exceedingly helpful. Anytime I could even think to need help, they were ready and available to assist! I was running late to the venue with decorations and as soon as I arrived Ann gave me a big hug and told me she was so glad to see me and that she was starting to get nervous on my behalf! I felt like I was being welcomed by a friend and not just a vendor. All this to say, Rosewood Events is beautiful, so easy to work with, and provides the most incredible background for an event. I cannot recommend them enough! You will not be disappointed.

She was always super responsive to my emails and helped coordinate with our vendors and month-of planner. Our guests loved the venue and said that it was beautiful. The views at sunset were stunning and the tent that comes included with the venue was perfect. Ann includes so much with the venue, like the pergola, many photo locations, tables/chairs. Also the on-site bridal suite and grooms cottage were perfect for getting ready; saved us so much trouble, not having to find a separate getting ready location. Our guests even gave us compliments on the bathrooms! At the end of the night as we were about to drive away, Ann came running towards us because she found one of the bridesman's wallets when digging in the couch cushions of the bridal suite! It's amazing how they can transform this place into something magical and memorable for the couple to make it their own and add their own special touches. Such a beautiful place and the journey starts a couple of miles before reaching Flying Cloud. The drive up with the greenery and awe inspiring beauty that surrounds this place and the hills especially late afternoon as the sun sets low, the peaceful drive up sets the tone for the experience one is about to have here. I've come here a few times to see it as well as the day before for rehearsal and seeing it on the day of the wedding was unbelievable. The place completely transformed into this wonderful fairy tale enchantment that was perfect for the couple. Absolutely a charming place. They transformed this place from the ceremony with the arbor with pretty floral arrangements and rows of chairs with umbrellas to a full dining delight in round tables, linen, flowers and umbrellas. So so special. And at night with the white lights on the trees and the hanging light above the dance floor was just picture perfect! I also should mention the bridal suite is large enough for the bridal party (and then some) with a makeup/hair artist to get ready in. Thank you so much to the staff who worked here that evening, the coordinator here at Flying Cloud and a big thank you to Julia who was wonderful to work with (at rehearsal and day of wedding), so calm and she made sure everything turned out perfectly for the couple's epic day. We appreciate it.

Where do I start? How can I write a review about a place and person that facilitated the best day…read moreof my life? I will be reliving my dream wedding for all of eternity and its success was largely due to choosing the perfect venue. Literal perfection. Firstly, the value you get when booking a wedding at Flying Cloud is unmatched. We toured 5 or 6 different venues and Flying Cloud offered the best option by far. They offer coordination day of and for months leading up to the event. This alone was priceless. You NEED day of coordination at a MINIMUM to have a successful wedding and Julia was the best coordinator I could have asked for. We met Julia the first day we toured the venue and over the 10 months of planning met multiple other times and communicated via email/text without issue. Julia provides spreadsheets that keep you on track with planning and that was so helpful! With the price of the venue you also get chairs, tables, umbrellas and countless other items you would otherwise have to purchase or rent. This is a huge value. The space itself is so versatile and there were so many options for ceremony and reception space. My guests raved to me about how the venue was perfect and so beautiful. Everything was clean and well kept. The mature trees and vineyards in the front made for excellent photo backdrops. It was obvious that there is a well oiled wedding machine in place and I benefitted greatly from their experience in event planning. Flying Cloud has an extensive preferred vendor list which at first I thought may be limiting. Let me tell you that vendors don't make it on this list without proven excellence. The only vendor I had an issue with in 10 months of planning was one that was not on the preferred list. I used a DJ, photographer, bakery, florist, officiant and caterer from their list and everything was executed flawlessly. They also handle the rental order for you. We used Heirloom rentals and that was so convenient. We had access to the venue as early as we needed day of, which for me was 8AM. We also had access the day before for rehearsal and to drop off items. I dropped off so much crap (all the florals that I DIY'd, candles and hurricanes, guest favors, polaroid guest books, 2 mirrors, framed photos, potted plants, ladder ball, a ton of alcohol and more. We used 3 cars to take everything) that Julia and her staff had to display and make look good and cohesive, I was amazed how they had time to do it all and never seemed rushed or stressed. Julia also set up a s'mores station and coffee station for us which was awesome! Directly after our ceremony we went back to the bridal suite to sign our marriage license and our signature drinks and appetizers were waiting for us. This is the kind of thoughtfulness that comes with experience and true professionalism! The bridal suite was such a nice space to get ready. It was spacious and Julia had gallons of water waiting for us. There is a refrigerator, a dressing space, lots of natural light, an excellent lighted, mirrored area for hair and makeup artists, a couch, table and chairs. My hair and makeup artists raved about the space. I had 8 people getting ready with me in that space and there was plenty of room. Julia and her team worked their asses off all day for me and I am so grateful! I think she may have secret magical powers. She fielded questions all day, directed vendors, set up the entire space and did so with a smile and while being kind. She made decisions for me when I didn't want to and everything ended up perfect. There is a reason this venue has won many awards. I can't say enough good things. I'd also like to note that time spent at the venue the day before for rehearsal was 1 hour from 9am to 10am Those who may think that having other parties at the venue on the day of their event is intrusive, should consider that they also had to rehearse the day before. There was another event the day after our Saturday wedding and I did not feel anything but excitement for others who are getting to celebrate their event at this amazing venue. Lastly, when planning I appreciated the transparency. I didn't have to jump through hoops to get their pricing and event packages. We spent $9000 for a Saturday in June. Our event ran from 4pm-10pm and I was at the venue to get ready at 8AM.
