We got married at Straus in October 2019 and it was the best choice we could have made. The venue itself is incredibly beautiful, with tons of character and charm and plenty of opportunity to make it your own. Michael and Vivian went above and beyond to ensure our day was special and went off without a hitch. If you are thinking of booking Straus for your special day or other event, don't hesitate, just do it!!

Valentine Collection from Straus Family Ranch

I purchased a lovely Valentine's gift for my husband of Cheese spread and chocolates from Straus Home Ranch. I'm not a cheese person but the two cheeses I received were AMAZING!!! Hearts Desire Cowgirl Creamery and BiValve Foundry Fresh Organic Cheese Spread were light and delicate and delicious. I haven't tried the chocolates yet (waiting for Valentine's Day) but the packaging was beautiful and secure with a cold pack inside. Treat yourself to something special for any occasion and help support small business.

    The Renovated Barn

Tomales Bay and the little city of Marshall is so special to my husband and I, and we were so thankful we stumbled upon Straus Home Ranch as our wedding venue. From the start Vivien was so welcoming and let us tour the ranch and answered any and all questions we had. I knew from the minute I walked on their property that the ranch was somewhere special and I just had to have our wedding there. Both Vivien and Michael were in constant contact throughout the planning process and assisted in anything that we needed. It was so stress free and easy that I kept telling my husband how thankful I am for the both of them making our weekend so special. We had our rehearsal dinner in the smaller barn and our wedding in the bigger barn and absolutely loved our stay at the farmhouse. There is so much history surrounding the property you can't help but feel the love and appreciation they have for their ranch and all the hard work put in to making it one of a kind. You will instantly feel like family and I think that was the most important feeling of all. I cannot recommend Vivien and Michael enough. They are some of the most wonderful people you will ever meet and have the pleasure of working with. We are looking forward to going back and just relaxing on the property and enjoying all that Tomales has to offer. Thank you so much Vivien and Michael for letting us enjoy your ranch for our wedding and for all of your help making our day so special and one we'll never forget. Gina and Jason P.Sa they have the BEST soft serve ice cream and chocolate milk!!

We can't say enough good things about Straus, or about working with Michael and Vivian. Our wedding weekend (June 2019) could not have been more special, and the two of them could not have been more delightful to work with. From the beginning and throughout the planning process, they were kind, generous, welcoming, uber-responsive, and organized - they went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we could ever want for our wedding. We are still feeling giddy and blissful about our weekend at the beautiful ranch. It was so wonderful to be able to have all of our wedding events there, from the Friday night barbecue on the lawn, intimate gatherings by the water, the ultimate dance party in the big barn, and a picnic brunch on Sunday in the small barn - it was the most magical home-away-from-home for all of our friends and family for the weekend. What a special place, what special people, what an incredible weekend - we will be forever grateful!

Great spot especially when there is theater. The presence of the family of this famous dairy makes it a special spot.

They offered to bring out heat lamps to the deck but I opted to move indoors. I wasn't prepared for a menu that had many of my favorite dishes. I opted for the Family meal with burata tomato basil bruschetta, oxtail ragu ( sourced from local Steme Creek), crème brûlée and a glass of house wine. My companion ordered off the menu so we could try more items. With several excellent seafood restaurants in Marshall, we opted to lean towards the beef options, sourced from temple Creek. We loved the winter chicory salad suggested by our server Katherine, with roasted delicata squash, pear, Point Reyes blue cheese, and a balanced pomegranate vinaigrette. The Stemple Creek braised short ribs were tender and in a rich red wine jus and came with za'atar roasted baby carrots. I'd order the carrots as a side if we didn't have it with our ribs. The ragu was robust in flavor. With several excellent seafood restaurants in Marshall, we opted to lean towards the beef options. Our plates were immaculate after we scraped off every morsel. The crème brûlée was not overly sweet and had a perfect carmelized crust. The chocolate pot du crème looked like overkill but was a careful construction of texture, sweet, salt, and crunch without being overwhelming. Weekday diners will help sustain this gem. It is worth the drive whether you are in West or Central Marin.

Our server was quite professional, friendly, upbeat, and tracked us perfectly. Well done!

We were very excited to each have our own rooms with attached bathrooms, and felt like QUEENS... I personally was in Room #6 upstairs with a cute little balcony. The bed was so luxurious and ridiculously comfortable that it made it really hard to get out of bed and face the day (side note: they are clearly brand-new beds and incorrectly spoken about on that negative review, so take that one with a grain of salt, SMH); Some had deep jetted tubs, some had ADA walk-in showers, something to accommodate everyone's needs! Each bathroom even had extra amenities you wouldn't expect like make-up remover and cotton balls - such a nice touch! One thing I was worried about was the traffic noise at night, but it was not an issue at all, which just shows that the insulation renovations that were completed really were impeccable and every last comfort was thought of for their guests. Access to the kitchen and laundry facilities was also a huge plus as well for last minute weather needs! I highly recommend this gem in Sonoma County when you book your next wine country adventure! =)

This place is, by far, the most uncomfortable stay at any place, ever. History be damned. We were in a room RIGHT next to a main road that provided road and car noise all night long. It was LOUD. For myself, I experienced the worst two nights of 'sleep' that I can remember because of the noise and a mattress that should have been discarded YEARS ago. The gas fireplace didn't work. Zero instructions on how to get it lit. YouTubed how to get it lit, still didn't work. The condiment on this shit sandwich of a stay was the veranda outside our room having a security camera pointed directly toward the outside furniture where you'd sit. Zero chance of having ANY privacy. Its creepy and total bullshit. We can tell the place is owned by people that could not care less about the comfort of the guests, you're just income for them. Who puts cameras in private areas? We couldn't have disliked the place any more than we did. The place is a joke. It sure made a rough stay in Santa Rosa.

A fire glows outside the lobby, where guests gather for complimentary s'mores from the front desk. Melissa greeted me that evening - jovial, warm, and effortlessly efficient. Check-in felt less like a transaction and more like an arrival. After settling in, we walked up to Mable's just up the hill. The air was crisp. Jackie seated us outside, wiping down the table and setting up the heater while asking what brought us there. The service felt attentive without being intrusive - thoughtful in a way that made you feel both seen and relaxed. The manager recommended the oysters (sourced just down the hillside), clam chowder, beef short ribs, carrots, and potatoes he described as "ridiculously good." He wasn't wrong. One bite and I understood the confidence behind the recommendation. Jackie crafted a mezcal cocktail - technically out of season due to its pomegranate base - so she improvised beautifully. It was smoky, warm and sweet; perfect for the evening. Every dish felt intentional and dessert was too - chocolate mousse, peanut butter, caramel, roasted marshmallow, quinoa bark, and peanuts that melted together in a single, perfectly balanced bite. Later, I returned to the now-quiet fire, made one last s'more, and sat in stillness. There was a palpable sense of history on the land - a peaceful awareness of all who had gathered there before. The room was simple and deeply comfortable. I read before wrapping myself in crisp sheets and falling asleep on a cool pillow. In the morning, wrapped in a Marconi robe, I walked to the sauna and meditated - alternating between closed eyes and views of trees and the Pacific beyond. After a hot shower, I packed up and chose a nearby trail. The hike unfolded like a story: a solitary yellow chair overlooking rolling hills and ocean; the distant sound of cattle; clusters of seats that felt as if laughter had only just faded; historic buildings standing quietly in time; a small pond alive with frogs; ravens calling overhead; forest trails opening into meadow views. Eventually, the paths brought me back near Mable's. For breakfast, Haven greeted me and I chose the same table from the night before. I ordered the French toast after seeing the light in the eyes of my waitress when she described it - along with black coffee and scrambled eggs. Robert, the manager, stopped by to ask about my stay and suggested one final trail before I left. He was right - it was the perfect closing note. The Lodge at Marconi offers more than a stay. It offers space - to breathe, to wander, to reconnect. Wherever you're traveling from, you may just find solace here.

It helped give us freedom for creativity. Many other spaces we researched allowed only beer and wine, and made you choose from a limited selection of caterers (many, if not all, were outside of our budget). We could choose any caterer we wanted, and provided our own alcohol. Jean was a treat to work with. She was funny, kind, communicative, reliable, and prompt.
