We stopped at this general store and were so grateful they had a large coffee area with every possible flavor of creamers, hot chocolate, teas, and even powdered cocoa and cinnamon for the coffee. I am only sorry I didn't get the Sale clerk's name. She was so friendly and helpful. We were looking for a Coleman type stove and she helped us find one. It was perfect for us to use back at our house when the power is out as our stove is electric. We can now make coffee and cook in an emergency situation. Let me continue by telling you how well stocked this store is. They have a great selection of dairy, produce, meats and frozen foods as well as other grocery store inventory. And don't get me started about the hardware and non food type inventory. We have had a house in Bridgeport for over 10 years and I had no idea what a great general store this is!! The store was well presented, featured a nice variety of fresh fruit and vegetables and being just three days before Christmas, the place was jumping yet organized and friendly. On this occasion, we were able to use the bathroom, as we've been doing for the last 15 to 20 years and purchase some snacks. My wife chose some apples and cheese that we shared in the car, as well as some candy. As we checked out, the cashier asked if we wanted to contribute to the local food bank, and we would not even have known had she not mentioned it. It was our pleasure to contribute. So, should you find yourself in Hawthorne Nevada, needing to use the restroom, the Safeway is a good bet to meet your needs. We never hesitate to go here and we'll be back.

I definitely won't order a burger from there again because I don't feel that the customer should have to tell a business what proper cooked hamburger meat is, and they also have no warnings anywhere that their meat is undercooked. If they even read these reviews, according to Google, "consuming undercooked ground beef can harbor bacteria like E. coli, Salmonella, and Campylobacter, which can cause foodborne illnesses (food poisoning)." Hopefully whoever has their food handling license and is cooking the food understands the risks they are putting their customers through.

There were several employees standing at the front just staring at me--clearly irritated, like I'd personally ruined their evening. It was three minutes past closing. Not 30. Not 15. Three. Then it somehow got worse. They were out of bags (understandable), so I asked if I could use the hand basket to carry my items to my car, which was literally parked right in front of the doors to the store. I was told no, "these baskets cant leave the store"--and that I needed to go outside and get a cart instead. So I had to run out, grab a cart, and come back in... while the entire staff stood there watching me. There must have been 6 or 7 employees glaring at me with dirty looks like I had insulted them personally. The older checker was grumpy and rude, but honestly the whole team contributed to making the experience feel hostile and unwelcoming. I completely understand wanting to close on time. But if ringing someone up at 7:03 feels like a crisis to your staff, that's a management issue--not a customer problem. Also- why not sell reusable bags if you run out of bags so often?
