I've stopped by this location a few times. I am guessing that most folks in Bridgeport take long drives to stock up on a majority of their groceries from nearby towns (Mammoth Lakes to the South or other towns further north). This store is a very critical stop for anything you'd need in between big shopping trips out of town. It has a good variety of touristy souvenirs, pantry staples, grocery items (meat, dairy, some produce), and items you'd find at a hardware or drug store. If you are in town for a fishing trip and need supplies...if you are passing through and want to pick up some snacks or goodies (try the Bridgeport Coffee Roasters coffee beans--they are delicious!), then this is a great stop for you. read more

I came here last weekend to get a few things to bring back to the hotel room for food since my husband and I were sick of the sandwiches we brought. I was trying to find things that were microwave friendly so we can heat them up in our room but while they have a lot of items in their store, the only things they had that was microwave friendly was a few frozen burritos, bagel bites and a cup of noodles. I asked for help from the cashier but he just stared at me and smiled which wasn't much of any help. I asked them about the deli because it looked like it was closed and wanted to see when it would be open again but all I got was silence. Maybe he was just shy. Before entering Yosemite on Memorial Day Monday, we were staying in these parts. This store was quaint and perfect. Lots of libations and food choices. Very pleasant workers. We took our stuff from here to our cute motel, Virginia Creek Settlement and to Twin Lakes. We recommend all three. read more

I'm writing this for the Deli. On our drive up to Lake Tahoe, we were hoping to get sandwiches in Bishop, but Schat's Bakery had a line wrapped around the building so we moved on to Bridgeport and stumbled upon this General Store & Deli. We did not expect much of these sammies, so we ordered a turkey with veggies to split. The hoagie was soft and freshly baked. They were generous with the turkey slices and put a perfect amount of lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, oil, vinegar, salt and pepper. I wasn't going to bother taking a photo of the hoagie, but once I sunk my teeth into it, my tastebuds did cartwheels! The young man who made our sandwich was really nice too. Their bathrooms are just outside in the back of the store, but they were very clean. They also offer hand sanitizer at the entrance and cash register. Bridgeport General Store & Deli is a convenient, clean and great place to get sandwiches, snacks and drinks on your way passing through Highway 395. read more

Then another rude woman waiting in line said you're in the mountains now water is expensive. We live in the mountains too in Reno NV. Get off your high and mighty horse. Only a couple of years ago this place was FULL of stuff. Had everything you needed. Now it's a shell of what it once was. More or less has the same amount of food/stuff as a gas station store. Place is a friggin joke. Nothing more than an OVERPRICED liquor store on steroids. Grocery? General? Ha!!! If you consider canned food groceries. This place went to s__t after the old owner sold it, and it was picked up by the Indian reservation. They can run it any way they want, and don't have to worry about bankruptcy. It's funded with federal money. Driving thru Bridgeport, and I need to stop to grab some things for dinner. its 5:30pm. They're CLOSED. W-T-F? Oh, and close at 6pm, on weekends. Just, WOW. They probably didn't have the garlic bread I needed anyways. They act like they're a major grocery chain. Sending people all over California for "training". Training for what? Training on how NOT to make grocery orders? The bottom 2 shelves are ALWAYS BONES BARE. I have more crap in my freezer at home, than they have in the entire store. They have a deli, with a 4 top table in the middle of the store. They spent money, to build an extra restroom outside. They spent money on new signage. They spent money on a new "produce case" that sits either empty or with rotten produce, while its running. They have 4 people working in the afternoon until closing. Do they not realize, THAT THEY DON'T HAVE FOOD FOR SALE!?! NOBODY IS BUYING CANNED FOOD AND LIQUOR. The owners from the native colony are the ones that need training. Here's some advice, coming form someone who's SUCCESSFULLY ran a MAJOR grocery store. 1) Make a friggin grocery order. BUY FOOD. More than canned pasta sauce and bread. Buy enough to FILL the shelves, and buy a variety. You can't make money with a store that has virtually no merchandise. 2) You don't need 1 person in the deli, 2 behind the register, and a 4th person doing who knows what in the late afternoon/evening. NO ONE IS COMING IN, BECAUSE YOU HAVE NOTHING TO SELL, SO YOU'RE NOT MAKING MONEY. You're flushing money down the toilet on wasted payroll. 3) STOP investing money in decorum, signage, bathrooms, benches, table tops, (empty) produce cases, and other merchandisers in the store. If you have nothing to put in them, then it won't pay for itself, and there's MORE money down the drain. The Frito chip rack is the only rack in there that ever has anything in it. 4) SEND PEOPLE HOME. You do NOT need to pay 4 employees to work in a FAILING business. How about, you pay ONE person to work from 1-closing? If it gets busy (which it WON'T until you guys actually have something to sell) THEN you call in someone to help out. 5) Entice people to come in (AFTER you actually have food to sell). Order heavy on common items, and run a special. Run a consolidation report ant the end of every month and see what you're selling the most of (after you actually have a variety of food for sale).You're the only store in town (that I know of) so you don't have to sell every loaf of bread for $5.99. Have a bogo. Combine items. Give people a variety, and at least MAKE them think they're saving. I understand your prices are SO outrageous right now, because you're trying to compensate monetarily where your sales are lacking, FROM NOT HAVING MERCHANDISE. Go ahead. Try it!! 6) Stay open later than 5pm for crying out loud. Of course, this is once again contingent on HAVING MERCHANDISE. Do you know how you stay open later than 5pm (which happens to be PRIME TIME)? Refer to step 4. Cut your payroll to offset the cost of staying open until at LEAST 8pm. With the travelers passing through, people getting off work, and the kids getting out of school (unless it was just a field trip), and a VARIETY of FOOD, you'll actually make money. Right now, its looking like you just need a tax shelter. 7) You're NOT a major retail chain, so stop acting like it. You're struggling. You do NOT need to send people to "train" (I overheard this a few weeks back when I stopped as I was passing through to get home). You have a cash register, and a scale. You're good. Why waste money on employees to "train", when you have NOTHING to offer the public? It's like me paying for law school, when I KNOW I'm going to be driving a garbage truck after I graduate. MAYBE, when you guys actually have stuff to sell, and start getting busy, you will consider this thing called "expanding". THEN, you can consider "training" people. You're a small store, not Walmart. I hate not supporting 'moms and pops' stores, and small business. They need to thrive just like any other major retailer, and even more-so. But at this point, it's just getting insulted and frustrated while wasting my time. You don't deserve my business, because I can't depend on you to supply the most basic of items, and at early evening at that. I shouldn't have to wonder, if I drive over 30 minutes, am I going to be able to get tomatoes, bananas and friggin frozen garlic bread. THAT should be a no-brainer. Stopped in Bridgeport on our way home from Truckee to have some lunch next door. I did most of my vacation shopping in this darling General Store. The woman who worked the counter was super sweet and helpful. The store is darling, the country music was playing and I was in heaven. I bought an adorable hat, great shirt and all the stickers I needed for my kids and our water bottles at a quarter of the price everywhere else. Attached, is the bait shop and store that has some provisions. Looking at the recent reviews, its hard to get mad at these small town shops. Us city folk can't get crap in a pandemic, how do you expect people in smaller towns to keep shelves stocked? I much rather support a small town shop in any way I can, other than those big stores. And, I happened to find all the workers very pleasant and awfully kind and welcoming. Thank you for the treats and gifts, they were a big hit and we look forward to stopping by next year. read more

Went camping at the reservoir, a few blocks from the store. It was very convenient to get ice and wood. According to my boyfriend, The guy was very nice.( I didn't get off the car) But he did tell me that they gave him instructions on the travertine hot springs. On October 27th my wife and I were passing though Bridgeport on a camping trip. We had been to Yosemite and were heading out toward Nevada to camp overnight. We stopped at the Bridgeport store to buy some supplies. When I opened the door to our car my camera bag opened and my Nikon 7000 camera fell to the ground. Panicked, I picked up the camera to find absolutely no damage so I put it the bag and back in the car. What I did not know was that a very expensive lens had also fallen out and had rolled under the car. We purchased the supplies and left. Upon returning home on the 30th I realized that the lens was missing and eventually figured out what must have happened. I immediately called the Bridgeport store and told them my sad story. The girl on the phone (I did not get her name) told me that they had found the lens and it was safe at the store. I called back Monday and spoke with Tracy and he said that he would try to get it back to me that week. I offered a reward and of course total shipping reimbursement. Tracy called me this Tuesday and said that he had mailed the lens back. He would not accept any reward and just took my credit card data and charged me the $8.50 shipping charge. Today I received the lens in the mail in perfect condition. The people at this store are honest and wonderful. These are the types of people we all want to do business with. read more

I have been stopping at the General Store for as long as I can remember. My family and I camp at Doc and Als two or three times a year and have grown to know Bridgeport well. One thing I discovered last year was their Bridgeport General Store sauces. OMG THEY ARE TO DIE FOR. I have had the bbq sauce, satay sauce, shallot sauce and pretty much all of them. But my new favorite is their Bleu Cheese Pecan Balsamic. Its incredible. I stock up on them everytime I am in town now. I live in OC and we have a ton of good restaurants and good food and these sauces are up there with all of them. Kind of a cool find for such a small town. Passed through Bridgeport on the way down to Bodie on a Sunday morning. After catching mass at the tiny Infant of Prague church south of town, ducked back into town to find some lunch we could take up to Bodie with us. They have a nice little deli counter in the back. The girl working there made up our sandwiches pretty quickly while I waited, and they were tasty. The special that day was tri-tip. I wasn't really here for groceries, and it didn't look like they had much, just the basics, but they had some decent stuff in their tiny produce case. The people in front of me had some delicious-looking blackberries and nectarines. I went for the same. The sandwich girl was happy to rinse the fruit for us so we could take it on our picnic. They also had fresh-brewed iced tea which was wonderful. I also picked up a bottle of Bridgeport General Store stir-fry sauce that wasn't all that great. (They had several varieties of sauce with their private label on them.) Three stars for their deli, three for their grocery: averages out to 4 stars. read more

Went there 2x, on the way to Twin Lakes and back home to SF from Lee Vining / Yosemite. First time, I got some cottage cheese (on 9/17) that I didn't learn until I was taking a hike in Tuolomne Meadows was stale dated (best by) as of 9/5. WOW what a stomach ache, was sick for the rest of the day. Then, on the way home, on 9/20, I stop to buy a bag of carrots (forgetting to check stale dates), get 1 mile outta town and its dated 9/7 or so too. (they tasted old, and greasy) Turn around, go back and get another bag dated 10/5. That is not even close to the worst of it. Dumb hick at counter (employee? Friend of employee) with pants around knees and weird teeth talking about shooting and tracking a deer and all the blood and intestines trailing behind the poor thing. I ask him politely to wait until I leave store and he refuses *and gets rude* and gets even grosser. Violence as a hobby does not make people rude. Poor breeding does. I've been deer hunting. This hick needs to get kicked out of the store. And the manager needs to get his act together. read more

This is now the only full-time grocery store in Bridgeport. Busters market is now under new owners and is open on a seasonal basis starting late April 2010. Selection in the general store is limited. Basic goods are available but there aren't a lot of choices. Store is clean though and shelves are usually stocked well but inventory is limited. Prices are about twice that of what you would find in a large supermarket. Alcohol is about 2-3 times as expensive. read more

I have no idea how this store has been rated so high in the past, perhaps locals who want to be kind to the owners? Well being from WAY out of town and staying in the area my girlfriend's and I stopped here to pick up groceries for two days. They have absolutely NO selection, their produce is gross, and everything is overpriced. We were so put off as we were walking around the store by the general uncleanliness and rudeness of the staff that we asked if there was any other place to buy groceries close by. A woman working up front told my sister the closest store was an hour an a half away. We begrudgingly brought what we could and made our way to our b&b. When we got there we began unloading and discovered what looked like coffee grounds in the bottom of every one of the paper bags and a dead cockroach in the last bag. For those of you who don't know, when someone has a major roach infestation their droppings look like little piles of coffee grounds. We even found them in our 6 pack of beer at the bottom. And after all of that the woman who rented us our b&b told us that there is a grocery store in Mono on the way to mono lake...only 20 miles away!! We we furious. Trust me and take your business to Mono market, the prices are about the same but the selection is far superior and the quality of the food and cleanliness of the store makes the 20 min drive worth it! read more

If I could give 0 stars I would! I purchased a stove for camping and I asked the clerk can I return if I don't use it. He responded yes that fine. Went back the next day box was not even opened! Not a lot of selection. Milk was $5.50 a gallon! Bread is $4.98 a loaf, and that is the "cheap" sandwich loaf, not specialty bread! Store had stale odor with dusty canned goods on the shelves. Only bought the milk but next camping trip will bring canned milk with me and never stop at this overpriced store. read more
