I know this place can be busy, but over 1 hour wait for a flu shot is way too long. My appointment was 2:30 pm, checked in at 2:15 pm. There was only 1 person before me. Then someone else checked in at 3:00 pm for his flu shot appointment. I supposed to be the 2nd person but for some reason, they took him first. I went to the counter at 3:28 pm to ask the status of my prescription, she was checking the computer and told me it may take another 20 mins. Really?? Almost 1.5 hrs waiting time to get a flu shot?? My daughter asked me to pickup some things because she was going on a trip. Very poor customer service other than that of the cashier. Clerks do not ask how they can help you. You find a clerk, you ask them, and it's the wrong aisle. I even showed one clerk a picture of the item I was looking for. Also, there's a customer assistance button but no one shows up even after ring the button three times as batteries are under lock and key. Also store was not busy. Large clean store and competitive prices on their products. Walgreens in Hawai'i seems to have the opposite reputation as the ones on the mainland; they're wonderful here. As one of the newer locations, this one may be my favorite due to the friendly staff, and it being less well known. They have an ample shared parking lot with Petco; plenty of spaces at any time. Not as large as some stores, this one is still big with plenty of stock. They have a smaller selection of food as the main store, but everything else is available here. I come mainly for two things not generally associated with pharmacies: seasonal items like decorations and candy, and toys! Their prices are very reasonable, and they have tons of sales, so keep an eye out! Clearance prices and sales on seasonal items are also amazing. In recent years, the collectible toy market started an experiment after realizing that Walgreens and other pharmacies were some of the largest untapped retailers in the country. Since then, Walgreens has had a nice selection of toys, including exclusives items. Their toys also frequently go on sale, making it one of the cheapest places to find things. The staff is knowledgeable and patient to look for stock. The store is also very clean and well organized, there is a public restroom that is kept nice also. read more

A few days later, after feeling bad, I followed up with my doctor and asked why the increase in dosage. SURPRISE. He called the pharmacy and they admitted they got it wrong. Convenient location, but pharmacy reduced their hours and close at 9 p.m. We went to the pharmacy no later than 8:40 p.m. today for a vaccination shot that our doctor called in for us a couple weeks ago. The pharmacist and the clerk told us it's too late to get a vaccination because they're getting ready to close. They were not busy at the pharmacy and only one other lady was in line asking about her prescription, but they told her the same thing. She also left disgusted. Terrible customer service. Even though they're pharmacy says they close at 9 p.m. I guess they really mean they close by 8:40 p.m. or earlier?!?! They said to go to the Kalihi Walgreens that is open 24 hours. I never really understood why Hawaii needed Walgreens. I mean, what do they have at Walgreens that you can't get at Longs or Safeway or 7-11? And it's not like their prices are any cheaper either. Anyway, despite this sentiment, I do have to admit that this particular Walgreens location has a lot of positives: + Convenient. It's located next to Petco, so I can run in for random items or snacks when I'm getting my pet supplies. + There's always lots of parking. + Drive thru pharmacy. Haven't used this feature yet, but it seems like neat option. + There's a donation drop off (Big Brothers, Big Sisters?) in the parking lot. read more

I love Walgreens! They always have something on sale that I need and the store is always clean and organized unlike other stores! The employees are very helpful and are nice. I usually go in to look at the cosmetics section because certain items will usually be on sale or clearanced out for a nice cheap price! Yay for us!! I just bought the revlon colorstay overtime lip stain and it's amazing! It was on sale for 40% off and it's one of the best deals in town. Normally $12 I picked them up for about $7 each! Nice deal. Upon pick up 'Amira' couldn't find my fulfilled order then finally realized that the machine was broken. When questioned why I wasn't contacted made some excuse about being off yesterday. As Emi said, this place is located at the site of my favorite Safeway store, off of Beretania Street, across from Kaahumanu Elementary. The same Safeway store I stole my first pack of baseball cards, ate my first Chunky bar without paying, the first...oh, wait, this is a review, not a confessional! When I found out Walgreens took the place of the old Safeway, I didn't think anything of it. I figured that this place would be huge, since the Safeway was decent sized, but they only took part of the building, so it actually seems to be around the same size as all the other Walgreens I've been to. One thing I do like about this store is the abundant parking. I usually go during off hours and this place never seems to be crowded, inside or out. I love going here for my shots, since they do it pretty quick and give me a Walgreens band aid after. As with all of the other Walgreen's stores, I'm not a fan of their checkout lines, which seem so impersonal and have you standing what seems to be a mile away from the cashier. This one is no exception, since the line seems to start from the makai side wall and the cash register is on the mauka side of the store! Yes, exagerrating, but still! Overall, the customer service there has always been good and the employees are always friendly. Much friendlier than the ones on Maui, that's for sure. Convenience-wise, this Walgreens is very convenient, has everything you would need from a Drug Store, including fresh vegetables and they even have candy! But no baseball card packs or Chunky bars here!!! read more

The first Walgreens in Hawaii is located on Keeamoku & Makaloa and had problems of parking & supply since they had only about a dozen parking stalls and were so popular that they were basically supplying the whole island. This new Walgreens took over where Safeway used to be so they have a huge parking lot that they share with Petco. They always seem to have an ample supply of sale items so they really are "as good as it gets" for Walgreens. I also love that they are open 24 hours and have a Redbox just inside the front door! On the other hand, all of my photos turned out just the way I wanted with great quality. 2. Also, the sales associate showed great customer service. Do not waste your time with the photo center here. We ordered 50 Christmas cards for the holiday season and what we received was so terrible, we didn't send it out. 1. We upgraded to cardstock but it was thin and flimsy. The edges of the card were ragged, kinda like how it looks after the "fold and tear" perforated mail. 2. Color was awful. It was so orange it looked like Trump had 12 more illegitimate children. I'm so disappointed with how the photos turned out. On the bright side, we had a coupon for half off so it didn't hurt as much. Luckily we were still able to get them printed from Costco in time. No more xmas cards from Walgreens. The printed glossy photos should be okay though. I've had several printed here with no problems. read more

I am writing a review on the Walgreens pharmacy. I switched from the Longs CVS pharmacy to the Walgreens pharmacy when the first Walgreens came to Oahu because one of the medications I take was only available at Walgreens. I also noticed Walgreens pharmacy was much faster, efficient, and convenient compared to Longs CVS pharmacies. I was SUPER stoked when they built the Kapahulu Walgreens because that is right by my house. It was my go to pharmacy. I'm so sad they closed. When they were closing, I got notified that they sent all my medical information to the Kahala Longs CVS, but I figured since it's Walgreens, they'd have my medical history and information accessible from ANY of them. I was wrong. I had a choice between the Hawaii Kai Walgreens or the Beretania Walgreens and I chose the Beretania one. Just like every month, I had my psychiatrist submit my e-prescriptions to Walgreens, only that month, I had him send it to the Beretania one. It was a PAIN to fill my meds. They did NOT have ANY of my medical history/information so they had to get in contact with my psychiatrist via phone to verify all my prescriptions. Then, when I called them to ask them about it, they told me they needed my authorization to receive all my medical history/information from the Kahala Longs CVS, but, if that's the case, why did I have to call them?! Why did they not call me?! Anyway, they FINALLY got the authorization from my psychiatrist and all my medical history/information, but it took a couple days, so I was annoyed. Lesson learned! read more

If there's one thing which will forever make me resent this Walgreens is that it stands upon my favorite Safeway. Yes, they built a bigger one across the street, but I loved that it was never really busy and easily accessible. BUT, beyond me clinging to the irreversible past, I think I might be adding this Walgreens to my errands list when I have the odd sundry that needs to be picked-up. Much like my old Safeway, this Walgreens hasn't yet hit popularity so it's an easy place to park and grab your items. I took my very opinionated toddler into Walgreens one day and we came in with the promise of two things: 1) A snack 2) A toy She had gone to the doctors and it was my reward for her being such a good kid. They've got a great selection of snacks with everything from chips to cookies to local crack seed. In addition they've also got a fairly reasonable cheap toys aisle that proved to be very dangerous. She wanted a god awful doll which look like it's mama had a case of the uglies. I convinced her to get a plastic bowling ball set by screaming there was giraffe by the cashier. Thankfully she is only two and this ploy worked. I'm not sure what I'll do when she gets older, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there. Not the cheapest place to grab your items but purely a respite of convenience for those of us who barely have the time to brush our teeth these days. See you in the toy aisle! read more

This Walgreens is super close to my house and is 24 hours! Score! I stopped here last night because I misplaced my dental floss :( I bought a 6 pack from Sam's Club, looked everywhere, and simply couldn't find it anywhere. I went to Walmart and believe it or not they did not have a single pack of dental floss! Walgreens had plenty dental floss! Yay! I had a revelation last night after stopping by in the middle of the night: I need to stop going places in the middle of the night. That's when all the boogie men come out (and not the good dancing kind). Really though, 9 out of 10 times my encounters with strange people have been late at night. The workers were helpful in explaining their card system after they charged me $5 when the price tag clearly said $4. Apparently it's kind of like Safeway. You need their loyalty card to get the discounted price. Signing up was fast. One great thing about stopping by late is that you get the best parking! Just watch out for the scary people! read more

The Walgreens pharmacy department rocks! Before Walgreens, I used to always go to another pharmacy nearby. The service at that other pharmacy had always been inconsistent and never really "friendly." However, I had stuck to it because it was familiar and nearby. One day, the other pharmacy said my prescription couldn't be filled even though I had picked up that same prescription there multiple times previously. That was the last straw--I took it as a sign from above to find me another pharmacy. Enter Walgreens on Beretania. The pharmacy staff here is incredible--everyone is unfailingly welcoming and helpful. When I first switched, it was because of the incident described above. I described the situation to a staff member here and she took care of talking to the other pharmacy and my insurance for me. Apparently, the other pharmacy had already charged my insurance for the prescription so the Walgreens pharmacy staff had to explain the situation to my insurance for me. It took a lot of going back and forth between Walgreens and my insurance but Walgreens came through for me like a pro. Besides having a fantastic pharmacy staff, I really like Walgeens' prescription refill phone system. It's so convenient to be able to arrange what time you want to pick up your prescription. In addition, if your prescription happens to need verification from your doctor for whatever reason, the automated system will inform you of this during your call. Getting a flu shot here is very convenient too because you don't need an appointment. I have gotten my flu shot here the past couple years and the process is quick and easy. This is the review for the pharmacy only. Holy crap! Talk about incompetent idiots! I was recommended to go to Walgreens for a pertussis/Whooping cough vaccine from my doctor. So I called 10 minutes prior to make sure this location had it. The female pharmacist told me they did and they just had to check my insurance card and I'd be all set. So I told them I was coming down soon because I was three blocks down. Came in and told the guy up front that I was here for my shot and that I called 10 minutes prior. He looked around like a fool for 10 minutes then came back and told me that they ran out of vaccines. Totally annoyed, I told him I just called and the female pharmacist said they had it. He goes to the back...another 10 minutes go by with them scratching their heads. They finally find it. DUH. Then he takes my insurance card and tells me to have a seat. I sit...for 20 more minutes...then finally the female pharmacist that I spoke to calls me up and tells me that she checked my insurance card and I am eligible for a shot. Wonderful...no sh*t. Then she proceeds to tell me that they are busy *looks behind me. Only 3 other people waiting for meds* and that she won't be able to give the shot for another hour. Are you fricking kidding me?? I took my insurance card, told her to forget it because she just wasted my lunch hour. She told me I could come back at night time. No thanks...I don't live in town and don't want you to waste my time. Called my doctor and they said I could go to the Minute Clinic in Longs to get it done faster since they were being lame. To the Minute Clinic I go! Where service is fast and they know what the heck they are doing! It goes to show why the parking lot is so empty here. Woman Pharmacist is rude and unprofessional lied about getting a voice mail through the pharmacist line from my doctors office mind you refilled on line through the app got replies about my "in progress" authorization so being I do thing a head of time I waited a week since I still had medication only to find out Walgreens pharmacy is not doing their job. The only woman who is nice there is Terry very polite and professional she's a sales associate. 1 Star for being snarky and rude and lying.
